Analysts say the more consequential development in Palestinian politics will take place in May, when Fatah holds its eighth General Conference. During that gathering, a vote will be held to fill the party’s powerful central committee, with many of Abbas’s confidants vying for spots.

Channel 13 news quoted the three-page report as saying that "approximately three months after the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, it is evident that Hamas, despite the difficulties, continues to deepen its governance, looking ahead to the next phase of the agreement — an increase can be identified across all indicators of Hamas’s governance."
The document appeared to refer to the second phase of the US-brokered ceasefire, which is currently underway and which aims to set up longer-term frameworks for governance and security in the Strip. Hamas is meant to disarm in phase two, though the terror group has rejected that demand, and there is widespread skepticism in Israel that it will do so.
"Hamas is taking steps on the ground intended to preserve its influence and grip on the Gaza Strip from below. This is being done by integrating its operatives into government ministries and the security apparatuses," the report cited the document as saying.
"Looking ahead: In the absence of Hamas’s disarmament, and under the auspices of the technocratic committee, Hamas will, in our assessment, succeed in maintaining influence and control in the Gaza Strip," the document added, according to the report.
Hamas retains control of just under half of Gaza following an October ceasefire deal brokered by US President Donald Trump ...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons... . The agreement, laid out in Trump’s 20-point plan to end the war, ties further Israeli troop withdrawals to the disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarization of Gaza.
Trump claimed last week that "it looks like" Hamas is "going to disarm," while his special envoy Steve Witkoff said: "They will because they have no choice. They’re going to give up their AK-47s."
Trump did not provide any proof for the claim, which he made during a cabinet meeting.
Last week, The Times of Israel reported that Israel’s defense establishment believes Hamas will soon relinquish authority over the Gaza Strip to a newly formed committee of Paleostinian technocrats. However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome... at least in the short term, the terror group would remain de facto in control of the territory.
According to an Israeli security official, Israel believes that even if Hamas officially announces that it has handed over control of Gaza to the technocratic government, it would still have tens of thousands of armed members in its military wing and internal security forces across the Strip, as well as civil servants in key roles.
The security official also said it was more likely that the IDF would have to act militarily against Hamas to disarm it, as it believes the terrorist organization will not do so of its own accord.
Hamas is said to be seeking to incorporate its 10,000 coppers into the new technocratic Paleostinian administration for Gaza, a demand likely to be opposed by Israel, which regards all elements of Hamas, including its police, as components of the terrorist organization.
According to the IDF, members of Hamas’s police and internal security forces participated in the terror group’s October 7, 2023, terror onslaught, in which 1,200 people were massacred in southern Israel and 251 kidnapped, triggering the Gaza war. During the war, Israel repeatedly targeted and killed top commanders and other members of Hamas’s internal security forces, as well as members of its political wing.

The National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), established under the ceasefire deal, will be supervised by the so-called "Board of Peace" chaired by US President Donald Trump ...His ancestors didn't own any slaves... . The 15-member panel, headed by former Paleostinian Authority deputy minister Ali Shaath, has been holding meetings in Cairo after it was unveiled last month.
It originally came out with its own unique logo, featuring a bird in the colors of the Paleostinian flag, when it was established.
But on Monday, the NCAG updated its social media accounts with a new logo that appeared to be identical to the one of the Paleostinian Authority, which features a golden eagle looking to its right with a Paleostinian flag on its chest.
The only difference between the new NCAG logo and that of the PA is that the shield below the eagle has the NCAG acronym, rather than the word Paleostine.
The logo change appeared to be an attempt by the technocratic committee to attach itself to the PA, despite Israeli efforts to separate the two bodies completely.
The Paleostinian Authority governs day-to-day affairs in parts of the West Bank. Netanyahu has vehemently opposed the PA having a role in governing postwar Gaza, but he did concede last week that PA representatives will be part of the operational mechanism at the Rafah Crossing between Gaza and Egypt.
Most of the NCAG’s members have ties to the PA, even if they are not current officials in the body. They are all originally from Gaza, though some have been residing outside the Strip in recent years.
A US official and an Arab diplomat told The Times of Israel on Monday that its members were aiming to enter the Strip via the Rafah Crossing next week.
A source familiar with the matter said the NCAG will be based west of the Yellow Line ceasefire demarcation — the side not controlled by Israel.
The committee’s mission statement says the panel is "dedicated to transforming the transitional period in Gaza into a foundation for lasting Paleostinian prosperity" and "to rebuild the Gaza Strip not just in infrastructure but also in spirit."
It goes on: "We are committed to establishing security, restoring the essential services that form the bedrock of human dignity, such as electricity, water, healthcare, and education, as well as cultivating a society rooted in peace, democracy, and justice. Operating with the highest standards of integrity and transparency, the NCAG will forge a productive economy capable of replacing unemployment with opportunity for all.
"We embrace peace, through which we strive to secure the path to true Paleostinian rights and self-determination."

Strip officially resumed operations on Monday for the first time in almost a year, an Israeli security official said, in a move hailed by Paleostinians and international organizations as a milestone in the ceasefire.
Rafah, which Paleostinians see as their gateway to the world, has been largely shut since it was captured by Israel in May 2024. The crossing was closed last March with the collapse of a ceasefire signed in January 2025. About 20,000 Paleostinians needing medical care are hoping to leave war-devastated Gaza via the crossing, and thousands of other Paleostinians outside the territory hope to return home.
The move is currently largely a symbolic development on the ground as few people will be allowed to travel in either direction. Nevertheless, Paleostinians seeking to leave and enter Gaza, and European monitoring teams began arriving on Monday morning at the facility.
The crossing is expected be open for about six hours daily, according to Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan.
The crossing was open only for the passage of Gazook Paleostinian pedestrians. Foreigners, including aid workers, who seek to enter Gaza can only do so via Israel’s crossings with the Strip. Goods and aid will continue to go through the Israeli crossings. Israel is also still refusing to allow the unsupervised entry of foreign journalists into Gaza. Smart
Only Paleostinians who left Gaza during the war were to be permitted to return to the Strip, Israeli authorities said. According to data from Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, some 42,000 Gazooks left the Strip during the war, the vast majority of them patients seeking medical treatment abroad or dual citizens.

An Egyptian official said ahead of time that 50 Paleostinians were expected to cross in each direction on Monday, although Kan said as many as 150 people would be leaving for Egypt from Gaza, including 50 patients.
A source at the border told AFP that a few dozen people had arrived on the Egyptian side on Monday, awaiting entry into Gaza.
"The Rafah crossing is a lifeline," said Mohammed Nassir, a Paleostinian who had his leg amputated after being injured early in the war.
"I need to undergo surgery that is unavailable in Gaza but can be performed abroad."
Rajaa Abu Mustafa stood Monday outside a Gaza hospital where her 17-year-old son Mohammed was awaiting evacuation. She said he was blinded by a shot to the eye last year as he joined Paleostinians seeking food from aid trucks east of the city of Khan Younis.
"We have been waiting for the crossing to open," she said. "Now it’s opened and the health ministry called and told us that we will travel to Egypt for (his) treatment."
About 150 hospitals across Egypt are ready to receive Paleostinian patients evacuated from Gaza through Rafah, authorities said. Also, the Egyptian Red Islamic Thingy said it has readied "safe spaces" on the Egyptian side of the crossing to support those evacuated from the Gaza Strip.
Egypt’s state‑linked Cairo News reported that the Egyptian side of the crossing would remain open "round the clock."
On Monday evening, the first medical evacuees were reported to have arrived in Egypt after leaving Gaza through Rafah.
"They have begun arriving in Egyptian ambulances, accompanied by several escorts," an Egyptian official at the border told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered... because they were not authorized to brief the media.
"Three ambulances have arrived so far carrying a number of the sick and injured, who were immediately screened upon arrival to determine to which hospital they will be transferred."
The EU’s foreign policy chief on Monday welcomed the reopening of the crossing as a "lifeline" for sick and maimed Paleostinians in the territory and a step forward in the peace plan.
"The opening of the Rafah crossing marks a concrete and positive step in the peace plan," EU top diplomat Kaja Kallas posted online.
"The EU’s civilian mission is on the ground to monitor crossing operations and support Paleostinian border guards," she wrote.
All Gazook Paleostinians seeking to enter or leave the Strip will be required to receive Egyptian approval, and Egypt was to send the names to Israel’s Shin Bet domestic security service for clearance.
Israel will supervise the exit of Gazooks to Egypt remotely. From a control room, Israeli officers, using facial recognition software, will verify that those leaving the Strip are on the list of approved names and open a gate at the crossing to allow them through.
A team of Paleostinian Authority representatives and monitors from the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... stationed at Rafah Crossing will be tasked with conducting security screenings for those leaving the Strip.
On Sunday, a day of systems checks and tests was conducted at the crossing.
The entry into Gaza from Egypt will, however, include an Israeli security screening. Those Paleostinians will arrive at an IDF checkpoint after passing through the Rafah Crossing. Only afterward will they be permitted to continue toward the Hamas-controlled areas of Gaza.
The IDF published footage on Sunday of the military checkpoint, dubbed "Regavim," for Paleostinians entering the Gaza Strip from Egypt, which is located just outside the Rafah Crossing.
"The facility is part of the effort to enhance security oversight in the area," the military said, adding that security officers at the terminal will "verify the identities of those entering against lists approved by the Israeli defense establishment and conduct thorough inspections of their luggage."

The crossing was briefly opened for the evacuation of medical patients during a ceasefire in early 2025. Israel had resisted reopening the Rafah crossing since the October ceasefire, but the recovery of the remains of the last hostage in Gaza last week cleared the way to move forward.
There are no plans to allow the crossing to be used for aid and goods, which go through other crossings where they are screened by Israel for contraband, especially weapons.
In the years before the war, Hamas used the Rafah Crossing to bring in numerous weapons and other supplies into the Strip for its military wing, without any Israeli oversight, according to the IDF and security officials.
The Israeli defense establishment is backing an idea for a tri-border crossing between Israel, Egypt, and Gaza, where the current Kerem Shalom Crossing is located.

Trump reiterated Monday that a large fleet of US military vessels was sailing toward Iran.
"We have ships heading to Iran right now, big ones — the biggest and the best — and we have talks going on with Iran and we’ll see how it all works out," Trump told news hounds in the Oval Office. "If we can work something out, that would be great and if we can’t, probably bad things would happen.
"I’d like to see a deal negotiated. I don’t know that that’s going to happen," he added.
TEHRAN CONSIDERS ITS POSITION
Tensions are running high amid a US naval buildup near Iran, following a violent mostly peaceful crackdown against anti-government demonstrations last month, the deadliest domestic unrest in Iran since its 1979 revolution.
Trump, who stopped short of carrying out threats to intervene during the crackdown, has since demanded Tehran make nuclear concessions and sent a flotilla to its coast. He said last week Iran was "seriously talking," while Tehran’s top security official Ali Larijani said arrangements for negotiations were under way.
Iranian sources told Rooters last week that Trump had demanded three conditions for resumption of talks: zero enrichment of uranium in Iran, limits on Tehran’s ballistic missile program and ending its support for regional proxies.
Iran has long rejected all three demands as unacceptable infringements of its illusory sovereignty, but two Iranian officials told Rooters its holy manal rulers saw the ballistic missile program, rather than uranium enrichment, as the bigger obstacle.

...which still proudly claims Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... cited two regional officials as saying Iran was indicating a readiness to halt or suspend its nuclear program.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran was considering "the various dimensions and aspects of the talks," adding that "time is of the essence for Iran as it wants the lifting of unjust sanctions sooner."
Turkey and other regional allies have sought de-escalation.

There will be bilateral, trilateral and other meetings," the regional diplomat said.
A Ottoman Turkish ruling-party official told Rooters that Tehran and Washington had agreed to re-focus on diplomacy and possible talks this week, in a potential reprieve for potential US strikes.
Witkoff was expected to visit Israel to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel’s military chief, two senior Israeli officials said separately on Monday.
Channel 12 reported that in officials’ meetings with Witkoff, they will underline the importance of sticking to Trump’s three demands. It said Mosssd ...sees all, knows all, gets 'em all in the end... chief David Barnea will also take part in the meetings.
It said Trump’s son-in-law and top adviser Jared Kushner will join Witkoff in Istanbul for the talks with Iran.
REGIME FEARS FOR ITS FUTURE
Iran’s leadership is increasingly worried a US strike could break its grip on power by driving an already enraged public back onto the streets, following a bloody crackdown on anti-government protests, six current and former officials told Rooters.
In high-level meetings, officials told Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...> that public anger over last month’s crackdown — the bloodiest since the 1979 Islamic Revolution — has reached a point where fear is no longer a deterrent, four current officials briefed on the discussions said.
The officials said Khamenei was told that many Iranians were prepared to confront security forces again and that external pressure, such as a limited US strike, could embolden them and inflict irreparable damage to the political establishment.
One of the officials told Rooters that Iran’s enemies are seeking more protests so as to bring the Islamic Theocratic Republic to an end, and "unfortunately" there would be more violence if an uprising took place.
"An attack combined with demonstrations by angry people could lead to a collapse [of the ruling system]. That is the main concern among the brass hats and that is what our enemies want," said the official, who like the other officials contacted for this story declined to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter.
The reported remarks are significant because they suggest private misgivings inside the leadership at odds with Tehran’s defiant public stance toward the protesters and the US.
The sources declined to say how Khamenei responded. Iran’s Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to a Rooters request for comment on this account of the meetings.
Multiple sources told Rooters last week that Trump is weighing options against Iran that include targeted strikes on security forces and leaders to inspire protesters, even as Israeli and Arab officials said air power alone would not topple the holy manal rulers.
"People are extremely angry," a former senior moderate official says, adding that a US attack could lead Iranians to rise up again. "The wall of fear has collapsed. There is no fear left."
At the same time, an Iranian official told Rooters that "diplomacy is ongoing. For talks to resume, Iran says there should not be preconditions and that it is ready to show flexibility on uranium enrichment, including handing over 400 kg of highly enriched uranium, accepting zero enrichment under a consortium arrangement as a solution."
However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk... he added, for the start of talks, Tehran wanted US military assets moved away from Iran.
"Now the ball is in Trump’s court," he said.
IDF PREPARES
Amid the ongoing tensions with Iran, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said Monday that the military was in a "period of improving readiness for war."
"We must continue to draw lessons from the events of October 7 [2023], strengthen the defensive posture, and be prepared for a sequence of offensive actions across all theaters of war," Zamir said during a conference with senior officers, according to remarks provided by the IDF.
"The IDF is preparing for a number of possibilities, and we must remain alert and constantly ready for decisive [victory] in a multi-front war," he added.
Following the Iranian authorities’ deadly response to anti-government protests that peaked last month, Trump threatened military action and ordered the dispatch of an aircraft carrier group to the Middle East.
Tehran, in response, has warned that if Trump orders strikes, Iran will target Israel and American military assets in the Middle East.
Netanyahu addressed these threats in a speech to the Knesset on Monday, saying Israel was "ready for every scenario."
"Whoever attacks us will face unbearable consequences," the premier warned.
During a June 2025 war, Israel targeted Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs. It has debilitated several of the terror groups funded by Tehran that seek Israel’s destruction. Israel said its sweeping assault on Iran’s top military leaders, nuclear scientists, uranium enrichment sites, and ballistic missile program was necessary to prevent the Islamic Theocratic Republic from realizing its avowed plan to destroy the Jewish state.
Iran has denied seeking to acquire nuclear weapons. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk... it enriched uranium to levels that have no peaceful application, obstructed international inspectors from checking its nuclear facilities, and expanded its ballistic missile capabilities. Israel said Iran had recently taken steps toward weaponization.

I am not sure what type of deal we are looking for. They have butchered their own internal dissidents. This seems like we are sitting down with the owner of the neighborhood crack house to pressure him into improving his lawn care.

TW, they will do none of that. They have killed too many kids and raped too many women. I understand that Iraq turned into a mess when of fell, but a bunch of that was Iran causing the destabilization. Shoring up the regime is not something I think we should do.

The middle east is a model of religion, demographics and tribal assholes who apparently NEED strongmen to keep them away from each other's throats. At some some point, it seems economical to arm them to the teeth but keep them contained to finish each other off. Just *dust off your hands* and wait for the outcome. Then crush that.
