The NYPD on Thursday arrested two teenage suspects for scrawling dozens of swastikas on a playground in a Jewish area of Brooklyn. Both suspects were 15-year-old boys, a police spokesperson said. One was charged with aggravated harassment and criminal mischief as a hate crime, and the other was charged with 25 counts of aggravated harassment. Make em clean it up with their faces
The swastikas turned up at the park two days in a row. The NYPD said 16 swastikas were found at the park on Tuesday, and another 57 on Wednesday. Photos from the scene showed some of the swastikas scrawled around the name "Adolf Hitler ...late Fuehrer of Germany, founder of the Third Reich, currently communing with his pals Himmler and Heydrich. He is reincarnated every few days, sometimes every few hour if it's an election year, as a politician somebody doesn't like... The graffiti was found in Gravesend Park, which is adjacent to Boro Park, a neighborhood with a large Orthodox population.
The graffiti drew condemnation from city and state leaders, including Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Governor Kathy Hochul, and Attorney General Letitia James.
New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin, who is Jewish, visited the playground on Thursday, alongside other Jewish community leaders from the neighborhood and the city government. Menin, a moderate Democrat, proposed a five-point plan for combating antisemitism last week.
In a separate case, on Wednesday, federal prosecutors announced hate crime charges against a suspect for attacking Jews in New York City in October. Alazim Baker, 29, allegedly approached a visiting Israeli rabbi near a kosher restaurant in Manhattan and asked the rabbi, "What is your religion?" Baker blocked the victim from entering the restaurant, grabbed his kippah, threw it on the ground, stomped on the kippah and spit on it, then punched the rabbi in the face, knocking him onto the ground and into a bike lane.
While the rabbi was on the ground, bleeding, Baker yelled, "Let me spit on that Jew." The rabbi suffered a brain bleed, prosecutors said.
Baker attacked two other Jews who intervened, punching one in the head and chasing another, while shouting, "Your people own everything," and, "I want my reparation." One of the victims said Baker was wearing brass knuckles.
Baker, from Irvington, New Jersey, was charged with two hate crimes, each carrying a maximum 10-year sentence.
Federal authorities sometimes handle more serious hate crime cases.
In a third case, Myles Utz, who had been charged with a hate crime for attacking Jews in 2024, pleaded guilty on Tuesday. Utz agreed to a plea bargain, avoiding trial proceedings. Utz’s victims were opposed to a prison sentence, a Jewish community courtroom observer told The Times of Israel. Utz is expected to be sentenced to probation, anti-bias training, and two orders of protection for the victims. He will be formally sentenced in March.
Utz, 31 at the time of his arrest in 2024, was indicted for attacking two Jewish men, aged 25 and 74, on the Upper West Side. Utz shouted "free Paleostine" at the victims, shouted antisemitic slurs, threw two glass bottles at one of them, and spat at the other, the Manhattan district attorney’s office said.
Jews are targeted in hate crimes in New York City more than all other groups combined, according to NYPD data.
[IsraelTimes] Dozens of rabbis from New Jersey demand that Governor Phil Murphy and the US state assembly adopt and implement the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism to combat discrimination against Jews.
The New Jersey state government reportedly nixed a bill to adopt the IHRA definition earlier this month.
Anti-Israel activists oppose the definition because the framework equates some forms of anti-Israel rhetoric with antisemitism, while allowing for measured criticism of the Jewish state.
New Jersey has more antisemitic incidents per capita than any other state, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
The rabbis’ open letter, released by The Jewish Majority advocacy group, is addressed to Murphy and the state assembly. Ninety-three rabbis have signed on.
“The Jewish community is facing surging antisemitism that we never thought possible in America,” the letter says, relating a string of attacks on Jews in the state.
“Prioritizing politics over antisemitism signals that Jewish safety is negotiable and subjects our community to further cases of harassment and violence,” the letter says. “We call on our political leaders in New Jersey to immediately revisit and pass legislation that adopts the IHRA definition of antisemitism, and applies that definition to training, education, and hate-crime response systems.”

Airstrikes targeted locations held by the militant group al-Shabab in the town of Kuunyo Barrow on Thursday, according to local witnesses.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have dismantled three detention facilities used by Boko Haram terrorists in the Timbuktu Triangle as they sustained their advance into the notorious enclave in Borno State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the detention facilities, each with three separate cells, were uncovered at the Guraba terrorist camp during ongoing clearance operations in the area.

Troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army have successfully cleared multiple settlements in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, neutralizing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and sustaining pressure on insurgents in the area, a development that marks a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to secure the North Central region.

Troops of the 114 Battalion, in conjunction with Department of Intelligence and Analysis (DIA) operatives, have recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a cordon-and-search operation in Murubai Village, Ardo Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation, conducted on Jan. 22, followed credible intelligence regarding the presence of arms in the village.
[IsraelTimes] Belgian police say six people have been injured, including two critically, in a knife attack at a Kurdish demonstration taking place near the Opera House in the city of Antwerp.
Authorities have arrested four people and all victims have been taken to the hospital, Antwerp police spokesman Wouter Bruyns tells AFP.
The motive for the attack is yet to be determined.

It's William Kelly. You may remember him. He’s the anti-ICE agitator who has been challenging Attorney General Pam Bondi and the DOJ to arrest him after taking part in the storming of the Cities Church services.
Kelly joins Nekima Levy Armstrong and Chauntyll Louisa Allen in handcuffs following their roles in leading a bad boy group into a Baptist church and disrupting services.
Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel today announced that the three were arrested under 18 U.S. Code § 241, which is violated when "two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States."
Armstrong, a lawyer and social justice activist, was reported to be the organizer of the church invasion. She was president of the Minneapolis chapter of the NAACP from 2015 to 2016. She has also run a number of activist groups that center on "racial equality and disparity" in the Twin Cities area.
Fox News reported that Armstrong is the founder and CEO of a cannabis company called Dope Roots, and that she made over $1 million over a six-year period running a "Minneapolis civil rights nonprofit that addresses anti-poverty issues."

Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled... and accusatory things at the congregation, which included many children, families, and elderly people. Video of the activist raid shows how the congregants were caught off guard at first, not knowing if they were under violent mostly peaceful assault.
The holy warriors harassed church-goers while they were still in the building and as they tried to leave, ending services prematurely.

As for context, keep in mind that last summer a group of Catholic school children and others were the subject of a targeted mass shooting while they attended mass. Two children were killed, and 30 others were maimed.
The church raiders tried to justify their actions by claiming that one of the church’s pastors might be an ICE employee. Even if confirmed, it’s clear that the anti-ICE/BLM/anti-American protest movement now seems to think it’s okay to traumatize churchgoers to call attention to their own victimization.
Related: Minnesota federal magistrate judge Zia Faruqui has refused to sign the DOJ’s complaint against Lemon, which charges him for his role in the raid.

[IsraelTimes] The IDF says it has wrapped up a four-day counter-terrorism raid in the West Bank city of Hebron, during which 14 wanted Palestinians were detained.
The raid conducted in the city’s Jabal Johar neighborhood was launched early Monday and was completed yesterday, according to the military.
The army says the operation was aimed at “thwarting terror infrastructures, removing illegal possession of weapons, and strengthening security in the area.”
In all, 350 buildings were scanned, 14 Palestinians suspected of terror activities were detained, and eight firearms were seized, the IDF says.
There were no reports of major clashes between troops and Palestinians amid the raid.
Multi-day IDF raids in West Bank Palestinian towns are a frequent occurrence.
[IsraelTimes] An attempt to smuggle 10 pistols into Israel from Jordan using a drone last night was foiled, the military says.
The IDF says the drone was spotted crossing the border by soldiers monitoring surveillance cameras. Troops of the Yoav Regional Brigade then downed the device.
The drone was found to be ferrying 10 handguns, which were handed over to the police, the IDF says.
