American Jewish organizations on Monday slammed a recent report by the National Communication Association’s Task Force on Academic Freedom and Tenure in which Israel is portrayed as a "settler-colonial state" engaged in "genocidal violence," saying the report peddles "antisemitic conspiracy theories."
In a joint statement, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), American Jewish Committee (AJC) and Academic Engagement Network (AEN) called the suggestion in the academic organization’s report that ’Zionists’ are engaging alongside white supremacists in efforts to undermine academic freedom "outrageous."
The NCA, a not-for-profit academic association founded in 1914, says it works with thousands of communication scholars and teachers from the US and worldwide.

The NCA’s 60-page report charges that academic freedoms are under attack by what it describes as "organized networks of disinformation and hate from the right" aiming to silence scholars who challenge established power.
It seeks to redefine the concept of academic freedom, arguing that the greatest threats facing US and global universities are rooted not merely in political interference, but in the "underlying whiteness of Western knowledge production" and "settler colonial-capitalist-imperial" structures of the academic institution itself.
According to the report, this "whiteness" perpetuates an exclusionary system where tenure pathways and merit systems systematically exclude and undermine academics from marginalized groups, including Indigenous, Black, migrant and gender-diverse scholars. Thus, it argues, movements to enforce academic freedom by the Trump administration and members of the political right are a form of "white backlash" designed to "silence the critiques of whiteness."
Targeting Israel, the report charges that complaints of antisemitism by political actors are "mobilized to silence conceptually informed critiques of Israel and its settler colonial practices."
The report charges that antisemitic incidents on campus function as a pretext for targeting and deporting protesters, and that "powerful donors, trustees and politicians" strategically "mobilize the trope of antisemitism" to suppress academic speech.
The document also includes a forceful condemnation of the "Israeli genocidal campaign" in Gaza, referencing the destruction of Paleostinian universities and the "murders of Paleostinian academics" as evidence of the threat academic institutions face.
It notably recommends the NCA establish a "Legal Fund for Paleostine scholarship" to defend against the perceived "Zionist attack on academic freedom" and urges the association to explore ways to "place the necessary pressure on Israeli institutions" concerning the destruction of academic infrastructure in Gaza.
The report does not discuss Jewish identity or experience outside of this political context.
In the joint response, the ADL, AJC and AEN called the report "an egregious moral lapse for an academic association’s report to resort to antisemitic conspiracy theories in order to account for the current state of academic freedom at American universities."
"The repeated use of these contested terms and conspiracy theories forecloses critical inquiry rather than advancing it, while advancing unfounded accusations against Israel and its supporters that have become vehicles for anti-Jewish animus in academic communities and beyond," the statement read.
Equally concerning is the report’s dismissal of extensive evidence of surging antisemitism as "inventions or manipulations designed to suppress criticism of Israel," the joint statement said.
"They also invert the problem: instead of acknowledging that antisemitism is resurging, the report suggests that Jews (or "Zionists") are weaponizing antisemitism claims to exert control," the response read. "This narrative is not only false but dangerous, reinforcing harmful patterns of victim-blaming that excuse wrongdoing and shift responsibility away from perpetrators."
The NCA report’s use of language from long-standing antisemitic tropes about Jewish influence operating behind the scenes to control institutions is "deeply irresponsible," while calls to isolate or penalize academic institutions based on political considerations "are fundamentally incompatible with the principles of scholarly freedom, the open exchange of ideas, and research collaboration that the report claims to defend," the response concluded.

A transatlantic intelligence consortium monitoring al Qaeda activities has released a video it claims shows Hamza bin Laden inside Afghanistan. The group says the footage was recorded several months ago and digital identifiers were removed to prevent tracing.
The Taliban have yet to comment on the claim. They have repeatedly denied hosting al Qaeda figures and insists no foreign militant networks are active in Afghanistan.
In the released footage, Hamza bin Laden appears in an outdoor setting with what looks like an urban environment in the background. The consortium did not specify the location but said the video aligns with intelligence assessments suggesting he may have relocated to Afghanistan after years of secrecy.
The report comes more than two years after al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Kabul’s Sherpur district in August 2022, an incident that raised renewed concerns over the Taliban’s ties with al Qaeda after the U.S. withdrawal.
Previous United Nations Security Council monitoring reports have stated that al Qaeda maintains close relations with other groups and continues to operate multiple training camps in Afghanistan. Confirmed locations were cited in Parwan, Ghazni, Laghman and Uruzgan provinces.

A newly-formed rebel group has surfaced in Somaliland, accusing the current administration of fueling tensions and deliberately stoking unrest.
The rebels declared that its mobilisation was triggered by what it described as the dehumanising and degrading treatment inflicted on Somaliland’s former president, who was violently attacked as he attempted to enter the airport in Hargeisa for a scheduled trip to the UAE.
According to their statement, the former president was publicly humiliated, manhandled, and compelled to walk nearly a kilometre to the airport, an act they say epitomises the administration’s escalating repression against their community.

The UK’s West Midlands Police used fictitious evidence to justify its advice to ban Israeli fans of the Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team from attending a match in Birmingham last month, the force’s chief admitted to a parliamentary committee Monday, as MPs grilled police brass on the basis of their controversial decision.
The Aston Villa soccer club announced in October that no Maccabi fans would be allowed at a November match following a police assessment that classified the event as "high risk" and suggested banning Israeli fans from the stadium.
In the report presented to the club that suggested banning Israeli fans, police presented information about a 2023 match between Maccabi and West Ham, which the report said was the Israeli club’s "last appearance on UK soil to date."
"The most recent match Maccabi played in the UK was against West Ham in the Europa Conference League on Nov 9, 2023," the report read.
However,

When grilled about the fact that this fictitious match was included in his force’s report, Chief Constable Craig Guildford admitted to the Home Affairs Committee that such an event "didn’t happen." "But it could've! That's what's important"
"West Ham have never played Tel Aviv. On that day, West Ham played Olympiacos of Greece and beat them one-nil," Guilford told the parliamentary committee.
Guilford said that the fictitious match ended up in the report "due to a social media post," but insisted it did not impact his overall decision.
In addition to the fake match, police cited "violent mostly peacefulfestivities and hate crime offenses" during a Europa League match in Amsterdam between Maccabi and local team Ajax last November.
The report claimed that Israeli fans threw "innocent members of the public into the river," that 500-600 of them "intentionally targeted Moslem communities" and that the violence forced the deployment of 5,000 coppers.
Guildford admitted to MPs that he "conflated" information about the Amsterdam incidents in the report, including an example about a "running street battle" that did not take place on the day of the match.
Despite the admission, the police chief defended the decision to ban Israeli fans, arguing that Dutch police told him that some Maccabi fans were "militaristic," and that "Dutch commanders were unequivocal they would never want to have Tel Aviv playing in Amsterdam again in the future — that was what they said to our chief inspector."
"The information provided from the Dutch was very, very clear in terms of they reflected on the days before, during and after the match as a result of festivities between the Maccabi ultras and the local Moslem community," the police chief said.

Amsterdam police front man Sebastiaan Meijer told London’s Sunday Times that the only person thrown into the canal during the violence last year appeared to have been a Maccabi Tel Aviv fan, who was told he could only get out of the freezing water if he said "Free Paleostine."
Regarding the claim that hundreds of Israeli fans deliberately targeted the Moslem community, Meijer said that while there were small groups that got into fights, it was "not a lot and not in a very alarming way."
"The Amsterdam police does not recognize the claim," read the response from Dutch law enforcement.
Furthermore, Dutch police said that around 1,200 officers were deployed in the city as the violence broke out, rather than the 5,000 claimed in the British police assessment.
Responding to questions regarding the Dutch police’s comments, Guildford said he believed the recent report was influenced by "pressure locally," and argued that he disagreed with the Dutch police’s own assessment about the incident that took place in Amsterdam last year.
When pressed on this claim by a committee member, who asked if Guildford was suggesting that the Amsterdam police were "in denial" about their claims that the events described in the West Midlands Police’s report "didn’t happen," the police chief deflected, saying, "With respect, you would have to ask them."
At the time of the incident, Dutch and Israeli officials said that the Maccabi fans were deliberately targeted by roving gangs of Moslems, calling the incident an antisemitic "pogrom."
Lastly, Guildford and Assistant Chief Constable Mike O’Hara admitted in the committee that they had met with Independent MP Ayoub Khan, an outspoken anti-Israel figure, while authoring the report that suggested banning Israeli fans from the November match.
The admission appeared to contradict their earlier claims that was "no political pressure" to ban Maccabi supporters, as Khan had previously contacted Aston Villa to voice his strong opposition to allowing Israeli fans at the event, arguing that they were a security risk.
While Guildford insisted that his meeting with Khan was not unusual, as police often meet with local MPs when issuing reports on public safety, he did admit that significant opposition to Israeli fans’ attendance from local community leaders was "fed into the command team" as they authored their report.
Reacting to Guildford’s statements, shadow home secretary Chris Philp told the committee: "This evidence session revealed a shocking series of admissions from West Midlands Police."
"It’s now clear the decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from travelling to Birmingham was a capitulation to an holy warrior mob, backed up by questionable evidence sourced by a single police inspector and dubious social media searches," the Conservative Party MP said, adding that: "After such a litany of errors, it’s only right that the Chief Constable resigns."
The decision to ban Israeli fans from the game sparked criticism, including from Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who set about trying to reverse the move, though Maccabi Tel Aviv later announced it would decline tickets for its fans anyway, citing safety concerns. A British Jewish communal organization said it was told it could not receive the Israeli-designated tickets.
The match was played on November 6 without Maccabi fans in attendance, with the Premier League side defeating the Israeli squad 2-0.
More than 700 police were deployed across Birmingham as some 200 pro-Paleostinian and a few dozen pro-Israel protesters held separate demonstrations outside Villa Park stadium in the run-up to kick-off.
While the match took place largely without incident, police said they made six arrests before and during the event. They said a 21-year-old man was arrested for failing to comply with an order to remove a face mask, while a 17-year-old boy was arrested for failing to comply with a dispersal order. "As of October 31, 2025, the Free State of Saxony carried out 39 deportations to Iraq, 62 to Turkey, and one to Iran," Martin Strunden, spokesperson for Saxony’s interior ministry, told Rudaw on Wednesday.

When asked how much it costs the German federal government to deport a rejected asylum seeker, Strunden said the expenses vary widely by case and circumstances.

In an interview with his party’s newspaper, Turkey’s Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader and Erdoğan ally Devlet Bahçeli, who is fronting the peace talks initiative with Öcalan, was asked about the incident. The paper framed the event as a “show” built around Barzani’s presence. Bahçeli responded: “Foreign-uniformed soldiers wandering around our homeland with long-barrelled guns is, in a word, a disgrace. The sovereign rights and law of the Republic of Turkey have been violated. This is a deliberate attack on the reputation of the Republic of Turkey... Our state has the strength, capability and capacity to protect every guest who comes to our country. In addition, it is a basic rule that the brand, quantity and calibre of any weapons carried or used by foreign security guards who come to our country must be notified to Turkey beforehand. But there is no such thing as foreign soldiers or security guards bringing long-barrelled guns into our country while in uniform.”
Within hours, Barzani’s office issued a sharply worded response, saying that “Bahçeli’s remarks come at a time when all the details and security measures for President Barzani’s visit were based on protocol-based coordination between the relevant institutions.” The statement then moved to a personal rebuke of Bahçeli: “We had thought that God had guided Devlet Bahçeli to the right path and that he had turned the page on racism and chauvinism. But it seems he is still the same old Grey Wolf, only now wearing sheep’s clothing.”
The exchange is notable because Bahçeli has in recent months repeatedly praised Öcalan in the context of the peace talks and softened his tone on the Kurds. It also comes at a sensitive moment in KDP–Turkey relations, against the backdrop of PKK–Turkey negotiations, and matters all the more because Bahçeli remains a central pillar of the governing alliance that President Erdoğan relies on.

A Libyan man accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes in a Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... prison has been sent by Germany to the International Criminal Court to face justice.
ICC prosecutors allege Khaled Mohammed Ali El Hishri was a senior commander at the Mitiga prison, where they say he ordered or oversaw atrocities including murder, torture, rape and sexual violence between 2015 and 2020.
He was arrested by German authorities on July 16 on a sealed warrant issued by The Hague-based court and had been in jug in Germany before being surrendered Monday, the court said after his arrival at its detention center.
The ICC’s prosecution office in July called El Hishri’s arrest "an important development" in efforts to seek accountability for crimes in detention facilities in Libya. It said it was ready for his trial, which would be the first of a Libyan suspect at the court.
He will soon appear in an ICC courtroom so that judges can confirm his identity and ensure he has been informed of the allegations against him and his rights. The court will then schedule a hearing at which prosecutors summarize their evidence and a panel of judges decides if it is strong enough to merit putting El Hishri on trial. That process will likely take months.

Sabah al-Numan, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, said in a statement that the federal defense ministry has been instructed to provide Khor Mor with air-defense capabilities "in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)" to ensure the site’s protection, based on recommendations provided by a high-level investigating committee involving intelligence and security agencies of Baghdad and Erbil.
The Khor Mor gas field, located in Sulaimani province’s Chamchamal district, came under attack last week, prompting widespread condemnation locally, regionally, and internationally.
UAE-based Dana Gas, the field’s main operator, announced Wednesday that production has returned to normal levels, noting the implementation of "strengthened security measures" by Kurdish and federal authorities to protect the strategic energy site.
"The perpetrators of this attack have been identified. They are outlaws, and judicial arrest warrants have already been issued for several of them. Security forces are currently pursuing them," Numan said.
He added that the government has adopted recommendations from the investigative committee, including directing the Ministry of Defense - in partnership with the KRG - to deploy air-defense systems to the area.
Additional measures include redeploying security forces within the "East Salahaddin Operations sector to close any security gaps" and replacing current commanders in the area with "more competent leaders."
The statement also called for "enhancing and developing intelligence coordination channels" between federal agencies and their counterparts in the Kurdistan Region.
It stressed that the committee’s work "remains ongoing until all individuals involved in this attack - which targeted Iraq’s illusory sovereignty and economic resources - are apprehended."
"This dangerous terrorist act aims to obstruct and delay efforts to achieve security and economic stability. It will not go unpunished, and firm legal measures will be taken against all perpetrators," the statement concluded.

The terror financing sanctions would have significantly curtailed the PA’s ability to continue operating, as foreign governments would risk exposing themselves to secondary sanctions from the US if they provided further assistance to Ramallah, which the cash-strapped authority desperately needs.
But days after its sanctions threat was passed along to Ramallah in early November, Washington decided to hold off on the far-reaching move, with Ramallah understanding that Abbas’s ousting of Bitar had been enough to convince the Trump administration that the PA was serious about ensuring illicit payments to security prisoners would not continue.
Abbas signed a decree in February ending a controversial welfare system that included monthly stipends to Paleostinian security prisoners — including convicted turbans — based on the length of their sentence, as well as to families of dead assailants. The reform had long been demanded by the US, Israel, and many of the PA’s Arab and European backers, with some accusing Ramallah of incentivizing attacks on Israelis and dubbing the old policy "pay-for-slay."
The February decree signed by Abbas established a new system under which welfare stipends are distributed strictly based on financial need, and Majdalani was tapped to head the program.
However,

A source familiar with the matter revealed that this wasn’t even the first time that Washington has threatened to issue such sanctions against the PA over frustration with the pace of Ramallah’s implementation of "pay-for-slay" reform. However,

The State Department has followed through on a less severe punitive measure against Abbas, denying him and other Paleostinian leaders visas needed to attend the September UN General Assembly in New York. Since then, the Trump administration has somewhat softened its approach to the PA, inviting Abbas to a Gaza peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh in October and partially relying on the PA to secure the Security Council support needed to pass a resolution giving Trump’s Board of Peace the mandate to manage Gaza for the next two years.
Discovery of the illicit payments broke that trend, and while Abbas managed to "stop the bleeding" by firing his finance minister, personal sanctions may again be weighed against PA officials if the welfare program reform is not fully implemented, the US official warned.

Speaking to Channel 12, Mayor Tzvika Brot claims that millions of Israelis, himself included, have received texts from Iranian agents recently, as Tehran attempts to recruit as many spies as possible into its network. The recruitment texts "don’t hide" and plainly state that the senders are Iranian agents seeking to pay Israelis to carry out espionage missions, he claims.
In recent weeks, the Shin Bet has reached out to Bat Yam and other municipalities in order to enlist their help in curbing the Iranian espionage phenomenon. The joint effort is aimed at appealing to the dozens, if not hundreds, of Israelis who have made contact with Iranian agents, either from a lack of understanding or to earn extra money, Brot says.
"The amazing thing that we’ve seen in recent weeks is that a very shocking number of Israelis... clicked on those links and made contact with the Iranians," Brot says, adding that "on the fringe, there is a small number of people who are truly Iranian spies, possibly for ideological reasons," but the "decisive majority" are regular citizens.
Brot claims that in an esteemed high school in one of the cities that implemented the initiative, a double-digit number of students admitted to having made contact with Iranians online. Mayors in several cities are currently spearheading a new initiative to raise awareness among students in a bid to prevent them from falling into the Iranian espionage trap.
Last night, the mayor appealed to Bat Yam’s residents in a video message, urging those who have made contact with or know others who have made contact with Iranian agents to come forth. He tells the outlet that within 24 hours of the clip’s publication, 10 people reached out to the municipality with such admissions.

The defendant, who lives in the Negev, was arrested by police in November 2025 on suspicion of committing security offenses while still a minor. He was interrogated by Shin Bet officers, police said in a statement.
Prosecutors in the State Attorney’s Office claimed the defendant initially planned to stab soldiers with a knife he bought, but later resolved to carry out a suicide kaboom.
The defendant allegedly tried to create his own explosives. He tried to manufacture two devices, but gave up after realizing he didn’t have the necessary materials, prosecutors wrote.
He then opted for a simpler bombmaking recipe, throwing his two unfinished improvised bombs (IEDs) in the garbage near his home, they added.
The defendant allegedly consumed online ISIS content throughout his adolescence, starting in 2020. He began to identify more strongly with Hamas ..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,... later on, and decided to commit an attack in the terror group’s name following its October 7, 2023, massacre in Israel.
He was charged in the Beersheba District Court with planning to commit a terrorist act involving aggravated murder, training for a terrorist act, and attempting to obtain a weapon for terrorist purposes.
After his arrest, police said the teen would be charged in a juvenile court, as he was a minor at the time of the alleged crimes.
In the past year, a number of Israeli citizens have been arrested on suspicion of planning attacks after swearing allegiance to ISIS, including 21-year-old Taybeh resident Kamel Nashef, who was arrested in March after he allegedly made contact with figures who identify with ISIS, beginning in the summer of 2024.
Another Israeli teen, a resident of the coastal Arab town of Jisr az-Zarqa, was arrested in March on suspicion that he had been planning a terror attack in Israel on behalf of ISIS.
In January, police arrested four minors from the Triangle region for planning attacks, including one who had intended to "carry out terrorist activity inspired by ISIS."
In addition, police and the Shin Bet said last October they had thwarted a plot by five Taybeh residents to carry out a car-bombing attack at Tel Aviv’s Azrieli Mall under the banner of the fanatical terror group that originated in Iraq and Syria.
Paleostinian assailants have also been recently accused of ISIS ties. In February, one of them, a terrorist from the West Bank’s Hebron who murdered three people and maimed others in a series of attacks in Jerusalem in recent years, was sentenced to three life sentences and another 40-year prison sentence.

Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, the Defense Ministry body that oversees the flow of people and goods to and from Gaza, said the move is "in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and the directives of the politicianship."
COGAT said that Paleostinians will be able to leave Gaza via the Rafah Crossing in coordination with Egypt, after Israeli security approval, and under the supervision of a European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... delegation — a mechanism similar to one activated in January.
An Israeli official, who spoke anonymously to the News Agency that Dare Not be Named to discuss operational plans, said that all Paleostinians who want to exit Gaza will be able to exit through Rafah as long as Egypt agrees to receive them, but the crossing won’t be open for people wishing to return to Gaza. The official said the EU still had to make some adjustments to logistics before the crossing could open.
There were no details on when Paleostinians who leave Gaza would be able to return to the Strip via the crossing.
Egypt’s State Information Service denied that the country was coordinating with Israel to reopen the crossing, al-Qahera news reported.
An Egyptian official cited by al-Qahera said that any agreement to open the Rafah Crossing will see it open to traffic in both directions, in accordance with US President Donald Trump ...So far he's been unkillable, and they've tried.... ’s Gaza ceasefire plan.
Apparently concerned that Israel was opening the crossing to encourage emmigration, Diaa Rashwan, head of Egypt’s State Information Service, told Arabic media that Cairo has a "veto" against Israel’s decision, and that doing so would be a violation of Trump’s plan.
"Holding onto the right to stay in Gaza is firmly established in international law, and anything contrary to that would be a war crime," Diaa was quoted by Egyptian media telling the Cairo News Channel. Speaking later to Al Jazeera, he said, "the displacement of Paleostinians from the Gaza Strip is a red line."
The first phase of a US-brokered hostage-release ceasefire deal that came into effect in October called for the crossing to be opened for medical evacuations and for travel to and from the Strip.

The Rafah Crossing was shut by Egypt after Israeli forces seized the Gaza side in May 2024, but was briefly reopened in early 2025 during a short-lived ceasefire.
At least 16,500 patients in Gaza are said to be in need of medical care outside of the enclave, according to the United Nations ...the Oyster Bay money pit... . Some Gazooks managed to leave for medical treatment abroad through Israel.
For a long time, the crossing was the main exit point for Paleostinians from Gaza who were authorized to leave the narrow strip of land, which has been under Israeli-Egyptian blockade since 2007, aimed at preventing terror groups from smuggling in weapons.
[IsraelTimes] Military and Foreign Ministry representatives have notified the family of Thai national Sudthisak Rinthalak that his body was returned to Israel by Palestinian terror groups, after forensic experts completed identification efforts.
Rinthalak, an agricultural worker from Thailand, was murdered by Hamas-led terrorists near Kibbutz Be’eri on October 7, 2023, and his body was taken captive to Gaza. He was 42 years old.
Rinthalak’s body was located by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group in the northern Gaza Strip yesterday morning. Islamic Jihad and Hamas handed over the body to the Red Cross in the afternoon, who then brought it to the IDF.
The body of just one slain hostage remains in Gaza: police officer Master Sgt. Ran Gvili, who was killed and abducted while battling terrorists in the border community of Alumim on the morning of October 7, 2023.
“The Israeli government shares in the deep sorrow of the Rinthalak family and of all the families of the fallen hostages,” the Prime Minister’s Office says in a statement.
The PMO says that Israel is “determined, committed, and working tirelessly” to bring back the final slain hostage for burial, adding that Hamas is “required to fulfill its commitments to the mediators and return them as part of the implementation of the agreement.”
Sudthisak Rinthalak was an agricultural worker who came from Thailand to Israel to support his family.

“For 789 painful days, Sudthisak was held hostage in Gaza,” Herzog says in a statement. “His family back in Thailand have waited in agony for his return. Now, Sudthisak can finally be laid to rest with dignity.”
Herzog adds, “On behalf of the people of Israel, I send my deepest condolences to King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand, Sudthisak Rinthalak’s family, and the entire Thai people. I also express my appreciation for the Thai community in Israel, who continue to contribute so much to our country.”
The president’s statement notes that Rinthalak, an agricultural worker who was killed in the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, onslaught, was one of 31 Thai nationals taken hostage that day. During the attack, 39 Thai nationals were murdered.

If the body is confirmed to belong to a hostage, it would mean that the remains of one hostage are still held in Gaza — either police Master Sgt. Ran Gvili or Thai national Sudthisak Rinthalak.
Gvili and Rinthalak were among the 251 hostages taken on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led bandidosDeath Eaters rampaged through southern communities, murdering some 1,200 people, mostly civilians.
The bodies of 26 deceased hostages have been returned to Israel gradually, without any assurances or fixed timeline, over the course of the past seven weeks, as part of the US-brokered ceasefire that halted the war.
Hamas on Tuesday transferred forensic remains, which were said to include "small remains, pieces" of a body, though after testing by the Abu Kabir forensic institute, Israel said they did not belong to either Gvili or Rinthalak.
The first phase of the deal, delineated in the October 9 ceasefire agreement, includes the return of all hostages, living and dead. The rest of the US-backed plan, which has not been formally agreed on, would see Israeli troops withdraw further from Gaza as Hamas disarms and hands control over to a transitional governing body and multinational peacekeeping force.
Hamas has so far refused to agree on the matter of demilitarization, and few countries have volunteered for the multinational force meant to oversee the Strip’s security.
