I will certainly endeavor to be more diligent in the future to verify anything I share online.”
In a subsequent post, Pearce wrote, “I meant every word of that apology but I recognize that meaningful action must accompany any apology. To prevent any further hurt, confusion or damage to others, I will be stepping back from social media for the time being.”

[IsraelTimes] Alon Ohel, who was held captive by terrorists in Gaza for more than two years following the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attack, tells Channel 12 that his legs were chained for a year and a half and that he and his fellow captives were intentionally starved.
“They take your freedom of movement, put chains on your legs,” he says.
In his first lengthy interview since being released, along with 19 other surviving hostages, on October 13, Ohel, 24, tells the network he was treated “like a monkey.”
“I would eat like a dog,” he says. “You’re not a person, you’re an animal.”
He adds, “Even in prison, there’s a system. I wasn’t in prison, I was in captivity. They’re crazy people. If you’re not strong mentally, you can go crazy.”
He added that his captors chose to starve them, even as he and his fellow hostages knew that those holding them had food. He said that at one point, all he was allowed to eat was dried dates, and that he appeared skeletal at times.
“You get used to starvation, to pains in your body all the time,” he says, adding that he spent “hours lying like a corpse.”
He says that he felt strengthened when he saw footage of Israeli protests calling for him and the other captives to be freed. He adds that Eli Sharabi, another hostage who was held with him until being released in a previous ceasefire earlier this year, became a father figure.
“We connected from the first moment,” he said. “There was this click, I can’t explain it.”
During one moment of frustration, he recounted how Sharabi hugged him and “it was the hug of a father, because the longing kills you, it’s so hard.”
“He carried me on his back many times,” Ohel adds.
Sharabi was a husband and father to two. His wife and children were murdered in the October 7 attack, which he learned only after his release.
“Eli would say to break is OK, to fall apart, to cry, but never lose hope,” Ohel says.
Ohel adds that he made a conscious choice to stay alive, and would speak to his mother at night.
“I would talk to her at night, yeah,” he said. “‘Everything’s okay, I’m alive,’ I would say it like that, out loud. I knew that’s what I needed to do, to talk to my mom, so she would maybe feel me, maybe.”
He adds, “My story really begins when I chose life. I had a choice at any given moment to take myself and give up, and I chose not to.”

According to the report, the individuals designated are: Tukur Mamu, Yusuf Ghazali, Muhammad Sani, Abubakar Muhammad, Sallamudeen Hassan, Adamu Ishak, Hassana-Oyiza Isah, Abdulkareem Musa and Umar Abdullahi.
The government also flagged six business entities including Bureau De Change (BDC) operators and trading companies for allegedly enabling financial transactions that supported terrorism-linked activities.
The firms listed are: West & East Africa General Trading Company Limited, Settings Bureau De Change Ltd, G. Side General Enterprises, Desert Exchange Ventures Ltd, Eagle Square General Trading Company Limited, and Alfa Exchange BDC.
Security officials familiar with the findings said the designations followed months of intelligence tracking, analysis of financial flows, and collaboration with international partners.
They explained that the move formed part of a broader effort to disrupt terrorism financing channels, strengthen compliance within Nigeria’s financial system, and support ongoing military operations against insurgent groups.
The Federal Government had earlier assured that investigations into terrorism financing would continue, with additional names expected to be reviewed as security agencies intensify monitoring of financial institutions, BDC operations and cross-border cash movements.

Eck, he said, had a better excuse for his action (fearing discovery by British planes) than the Admiral who ordered the "second tap". "Self defense" REALLY doesn't fly here.
It seems like Hegseth is trying to avoid responsibility by putting all the blame (in disguise of a "defense") on the Admiral.
If what was reported is true, Hegseth and the Admiral should resign and face the consequences.

Those of us who served in combat arms (I am a retired artillery officer) know immediately that the main bogus aspect of this accusation is that the accusers, who presumably should know better, ignore that there is zero prohibition in any Convention prohibiting additional strikes on a target until it is destroyed, regardless of the presence of combatants, (wounded or not) who survived the first strike.
There are dozens, if not more, of instances in naval warfare where the US Navy, the Royal Navy, the German navy, the you-name-it navy, continued to pound enemy ships until they sank, without regard to the scores or more of wounded visible on the decks. And there is nothing "illegal" about doing so.
Warfare is intentional lethality. During the Gulf War and the Iraq War, US military aircraft attacked enemy troops on the ground innumerable times. They made multiple passes on the targets, strafing or bombing as they went. Should they have stopped when they saw enemy wounded?

Btw it seems inplausible to me that Admiral Bradley would carry out an order reading "kill all the survivors" (if it was given, of course). I'd think an American admiral would know that such an order ("no quarter") would be illegal. But then again, the ship didn't carry legal combattants but designated terrorists.
Of course an order like "fire on this ship until it's destroyed" is an entirely different matter.
The Eck case was about a captain who ordered to fire on survivors in rescue rafts after the ship had been destroyed. The British had him executed as a war criminal. The case was poorly defended though and even the British conceded that a little bit of "Siegerjustiz" was involved.

It comes as New Yorkers demonstrate against the arrival of ICE agents across the state, with protests turning violent on Saturday during a raid in Downtown Manhattan.
In a letter sent to her office by DHS, James was warned 'these are people who are not only in the country illegally, but who have committed additional crimes, including heinous crimes like murder, rape, possession of child pornography, armed robbery, and many others.'
The demand letter was signed by acting ICE Director Todd Lyons.
It stated there are 6,947 illegal aliens with active ICE detainers who have been released from custody since January 20, when Trump returned to the White House.

Among the dangerous offenders who were released was Crips gang member Anderson Smith Satuye Martinez, who was arrested in August for criminal possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
He was released from Rikers Island back into the community despite having an ICE detainer against his name.
ICE agents picked him up in the Bronx on September 11 and deported.
According to the department, James received a similar letter back on September 15, but the warning went unanswered.
New York has sanctuary laws in place which prevent local law enforcement officers from cooperating with federal agents.
In addition to the illegal migrants who were already released, there are as many as 7,113 who remain locked up in custody with active detainers.
These criminals are responsible for 148 homicides, 717 assaults, 260 sexual offenses, 134 burglaries and 235 dangerous drug offenses.
'Please confirm whether the State of New York plans to honor detainers on these aliens or whether each of these barbarians will someday walk the streets of New York again,' the letter notes.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported in October that it had deported 527,000 illegal migrants this year, with the figure expected to reach 600,000 by year's end.
Another 1.6 million, officials said, had 'voluntarily self-deported.'
The White House set a goal of one million immigration-related arrests in 2025, and a daily arrest target of 3,000. In reality, the average number of daily arrests barely tops 700.

Israel’s high-powered laser interception system, dubbed "Iron Beam," will be delivered to the military at the end of the month, the head of the Defense Ministry’s Directorate of Defense Research and Development said Monday.
Speaking at the DefenseTech Summit, DDR&D head Danny Gold said that "with development complete and a comprehensive testing program that has validated the system’s capabilities, we are prepared to deliver initial operational capability to the IDF on December 30, 2025."
The Iron Beam has been in development for over a decade, after it was first unveiled in 2014. It was declared operational in September after completing development and final tests.

The family announced the change in a statement released by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, the main organization that has supported the hostages’ families throughout the war and organized the Saturday rallies, which drew tens of thousands of people.
The remains of two hostages killed on October 7, 2023, when the Paleostinian terror group Hamas ..a regional Iranian catspaw,... led an invasion of southern Israel, are still in Gaza: Gvili, a police officer who was killed fending off the Hamas-led invasion in Kibbutz Alumim; and Sudthisak Rinthalak, a Thai national murdered in Kibbutz Be’eri, where he worked in agriculture. During the Hamas attack, holy warriors killed some 1,200 people and kidnapped 251 to the Gaza Strip.
"As a family, we know we can’t keep fighting this battle the same way we have been," the Gvilis said.
The fight to bring back hundreds of hostages "is not the same as the fight to bring back the last two," it said. "We must keep demanding the return of Rani and Sudthisak, but we need to adjust to this new reality."
"The fight continues, but we’re changing course," said the family.
The Friday rallies will also be held in Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square, the focal point of the families’ activities, and will be themed as a "Kabbalat Shabbat," it said, referring to the traditional Jewish service to welcome in the Sabbath that begins at dusk on Friday.
"Please keep the yellow flags flying," the Gvilis said. "Please keep Rani’s posters up along the roads."
"There will come a time for a rally of gratitude, a final gathering to thank the people of Israel for their incredible support throughout this journey," they added.
Though the statement did not mention the government, it appeared to criticize the official efforts to return the hostages during the war.
"We never forget the 46 hostages who could have come home alive but were murdered in captivity," it said.
The forum had long urged the government to agree to a ceasefire deal with Hamas, as the country’s leaders insisted on continuing the fighting. A US-brokered ceasefire deal was eventually reached in October.
Last week, the forum told The Times of Israel that it will be narrowing its activities greatly now that there are only two families left to support and far fewer donations to support them.
The forum had recommended stopping the rallies by the end of November, given the cost of around NIS 200,000 ($61,000) each week to erect a stage with video and sound systems, adding that the events do not serve the current situation of terror groups apparently searching for and locating the remaining bodies in Gaza.
The Gvili family had previously said it understood the forum’s decision.
Itzik Gvili spoke at the final rally on Saturday night, saying that there must "no next phase" to the current Gaza ceasefire, and "no ’day after’ in Gaza," until Hamas returns the last two bodies.
Rinthalak’s family is located in Thailand, and, while the forum is in touch with the Thai embassy, it has not been involved in rallies.
The Gvili family belongs to both that forum and the right-wing Tikvah Forum, whose smaller number of hostages’ families advocated military pressure in Gaza, rather than ceasefire deals.
In their statement, the Gvilis said they are exhausted from waiting, but will not be worn down in the struggle for their son’s return.
The family invited supporters to join them this Friday at Hostages Square for the Kabbalat Shabbat service, to hear about their son and to welcome the Sabbath.
Ran Gvili, a member of the police’s Yasam counterterror unit, rushed to the frontlines the morning of October 7, 2023, heading to besieged Kibbutz Alumim. He fell in battle during the Hamas-led attack, and holy warriors kidnapped his body into Gaza.
The Gvili family noted in the statement that Ran has been held in Gaza for 787 days, and urged that Israel not move to the second stage of the US peace plan for Gaza as long as even one hostage remains in the Strip.

On Sunday, a front man for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said that the two deceased hostages whose bodies remain in Gaza should not be seen as grounds to delay the second phase of the US peace deal.
The bodies of 26 deceased hostages have been returned gradually, without any assurances or fixed timeline, over the course of the past seven weeks, as part of the US-brokered ceasefire that halted the war.
The first phase of the deal, delineated in the October 9 ceasefire agreement, includes the return of all hostages, living and deceased. The rest of the US-backed plan, which has not been formally agreed on, would see Israeli troops withdraw further from Gaza as Hamas disarms and hands control over to a transitional governing body and multinational peacekeeping force.

Shortly after the social media post, Netanyahu’s office said the prime minister held a phone call with Trump.
According to the Israeli readout, the two leaders discussed "the importance of and commitment to dismantling Hamas ..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",... ’s military capabilities and demilitarizing the Gaza Strip, and discussed the expansion of the peace accords."
Trump also invited Netanyahu to visit the White House "in the near future," the premier’s office said.

Sources indicated that both view the police as a key component allowing them to exert influence on US-led planning for Gaza’s postwar management and wider future, including the possibility that the force will become a significant political player.
Cairo and Brussels, which have been involved in prior training of Paleostinian police along with Jordan, are now working to add additional cohorts of officers to those pre-existing initiatives, primarily made up of Gazooks, including former officers in the territory still on the Paleostinian Authority payroll, the officials said.
Officials who spoke to the Times of Israel insisted that the new force will be free of Hamas-affiliated personnel, but a report this week quoting an unnamed Paleostinian official indicated that members of the terror group could continue to police Gaza as part of the newly installed body.
"We want to deploy Gazooks who have familiarity with the society," the Arab diplomat said. "They know the places, they know where to go, they know the people. That’s very important in any police force."
NO WAITING TO TRAIN Meanwhile,

In August, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty announced after talks with PA Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa that Egypt and Jordan were preparing Paleostinian security personnel to manage the Strip and avoid a postwar security vacuum, saying that lists had been finalized for police undergoing training in both countries.
Shortly after the ceasefire agreement was signed in October, Mustafa told Rooters that the PA had nominated some 5,500 Paleostinians to be trained by Egypt for the new Gaza police force, with a goal of training at least 10,000 officers total.
According to the Arab diplomat, a US-backed initiative for Egyptian training of Paleostinian security forces in Gaza was conceptualized as early as March 2024.
Jordan had a preexisting training program in cooperation with the PA and the United States Security Coordinator, the Jerusalem-based body that helps bolster security coordination between Israel and the PA. But it lacked the infrastructure to train more than 3,000 officers for Gaza, so Washington welcomed an Egyptian proposal for its police academy to train additional officers, the diplomat said, adding that USSC delegations visited Egypt repeatedly last year to coordinate the effort.
A Paleostinian official told AFP this week that an initial group of more than 500 officers was trained in Cairo in March, and since September, the two-month courses have resumed to train hundreds more cadets.
Christophe Bigot, the EU’s special representative for the Middle East grinding of the peace processor, is expected to arrive in Cairo "soon" for discussions on the bloc’s role in the police force, the Arab diplomat said.
Since the ceasefire and the UNSC resolution, European officials have sought a more active role in the training efforts.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas told news hounds recently that the EU "discussed whether the EU police support mission could take the lead in training the Paleostinian police," and welcomed a French pledge to provide 100 police trainers.
The European diplomat confirmed reports that the bloc wants to train up to 3,000 Paleostinian coppers for deployment in Gaza under a program similar to its existing police support mission in the West Bank, EUPOL COPPS.
The training would be funded by the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy budget, which pays for the EUPOL COPPS mission. Being that the trainee officers are already on the PA’s payroll, their salaries would be covered by the PA, which is heavily funded by Europe.
The European diplomat said that the EU hopes, "as part of implementing the Trump plan," to use its two civilian missions in the area, EUPOL COPPS and the border mission EUBAM Rafah, by potentially expanding their mandates, though details on how remain unclear.
WHO WILL SERVE?
No official could offer a precise breakdown of how many officers have already been trained or how many viable candidates are thought to remain.
The Arab diplomat said most of the Paleostinian officers trained by Egypt for the force will be from Gaza, and a small fraction will be personnel from the West Bank who have family ties to the Strip.
According to the AFP report, Hamas and Fatah — the core of the PA whose security forces were violent mostly peacefully toppled in Gaza by Hamas in 2007 — agreed in talks brokered by Egypt late last year that 5,000 of the postwar officers would be trained by Cairo, and 5,000 more would come from the existing Hamas police force in Gaza, a stipulation that would likely draw Israeli protests.
The Arab diplomat told The Times of Israel that they were unaware of any such arrangement, and the European diplomat said the EU mission would only train those who had been vetted and confirmed as having no affiliation with Hamas.
Israel has been targeting Hamas coppers throughout the war and treats them as part of Hamas’s security apparatus.
A recent Egyptian report citing officials stated that 9,000 Paleostinian officers are being prepared for the new force, with some 3,000 having already been trained by Egypt, another 3,000 undergoing training in Jordan, and an additional 3,000 to be trained by the EU.
The Arab diplomat said Egypt is expected to train a further 2,000—3,000 officers.
Officials are hoping to draw additional cohorts from PA-affiliated officers in Gaza, the Arab diplomat added, noting that many of them may no longer be physically fit for frontline duty but could also serve in leadership or administrative roles.
Since Hamas ousted the PA in 2007, some 7,000 coppers are believed to have remained in the territory on the PA payroll.
Michael Milshtein, a senior researcher at Tel Aviv University’s Dayan Center and former head of Paleostinian affairs in Israeli military intelligence, said there were likely scant numbers of officers actually fit for reintegration after nearly two decades away from police work.
"Until 2007, they numbered in the thousands," he said. "But today, if you’re talking about people who actually still have basic fitness, a reasonable age, and the motivation to rejoin as coppers or security personnel in Gaza," there are far fewer.
The European diplomat said the majority of the 3,000 officers it had proposed to train would come from Gaza and be trained in Egypt, though the exact site has not been finalized.
Vetting would be handled by Israel and the US to ensure recruits are not linked to Hamas and meet basic requirements, they added, while stressing that no deployment date could be given, as neither vetting nor training has begun, and EUPOL COPPS still needs to recruit additional trainers.
The police force is intended to deploy in parallel with the ISF, the Arab diplomat said. While the timeline for the ISF’s deployment remains undefined, it is expected to "emerge in the coming weeks," they said. Both diplomats had heard discussions that the US hopes to deploy the ISF by early 2026, but were not aware of any official timeframe.
The exact division of responsibility between the ISF and the police remains unclear, but officials indicated that police would likely serve within the Paleostinian population, which is largely concentrated on the Hamas-controlled side of Gaza that Israeli troops have withdrawn from.
"Countries that choose to contribute to the ISF don’t want to be directly in contact with the Paleostinian population," the Arab diplomat said. "They want the Paleostinian police to be in direct contact with the Paleostinian population. That’s the whole idea."
The Washington Post reported over the weekend that countries considering sending troops to the ISF remain hesitant due to fear of armed confrontations with Gazooks.
The Arab diplomat said that Jerusalem had not raised hackles over the makeup of the police. "There is no serious Israeli objection about the Paleostinian forces," they said, describing Israel as "very happy" with an initial draft of the UNSC resolution, which included the clauses on the ISF and the police force.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office did not respond to a request for comment on Israel’s view of the proposed police force.
The diplomat also did not expect extreme resistance from Hamas, noting that the group agreed to the establishment of the Paleostinian technocrat committee meant to supervise the security apparatus in Gaza under the US plan.
SUPER TROOPERS
Both Egypt and the EU apparently see the police’s role as a significant entry point for reaching Gazooks on the ground and helping mold the Strip’s post-war recovery.
Brussels — which has struggled to influence policy during the two-year Gaza war amid internal splits — sees police training as one way to gain influence over Gaza’s future security architecture, the European diplomat said.
It could also play an important role in facilitating a gradual, non-violent mostly peaceful transition of power in Gaza by providing a viable non-Hamas security presence on the ground, the Arab diplomat noted.
"The best way to end Hamas control of Gaza is to bring an alternative... [The police force] can go and peacefully take control, get acquainted with the area, with the place. They are not Hamas, which is good," they said.
A third foreign official likewise saw the force as capable of eventually shifting control away from Hamas, noting that personnel in the apparatus "could form the next leadership of Gaza. From those security services, from among those ranks, could be the next head of intelligence in Gaza, for example."
However,

"If we reach an almost utopian situation where Hamas loses its influence in Gaza, and certainly if it disarms or collapses militarily or politically, then we could talk about a reality in which these local actors might slowly start to gain power. But we’re not there," he cautioned.
COPS AND ROBBERS
Today, Hamas is trying to reassert its authority in the 47 percent of the Strip it controls, using armed operatives to execute alleged dissidents, but also to secure aid shipments and public order. Some are police and some are members of its military force, both of which were devastated in the war.
Challenging that control in some areas are local armed militias opposed to the group’s rule, some of which cooperated with Israel during the war, and some of which continue to offer protection to civilians in areas of Gaza still held by the IDF.
At least one report has indicated that the groups could be integrated into the police force.
Hussam al-Astal, a former PA security officer who is today an anti-Hamas militia leader in Khan Younis, told the Kan public broadcaster that he recently received messages from American representatives indicating that his group and other such militias, including the Abu Shabaab organization in Rafah, will take part in Gaza’s future under the police force.
The Arab diplomat could not confirm whether militias would be included, but said Egypt had not trained any. American and Israeli officials declined to comment on whether militia fighters would be integrated into the police force.
Milshtein warned that such groups are both meager in size and have a toxic reputation as criminals, narcotics runners, and Israeli collaborators.
"If you take all of them together on a very, very good day, we’re talking about a few hundred. Maybe, maybe a few low thousands at most," he said. He charged that Abu Shabaab members have been linked to ISIS, and argued that bringing local militias into a police force would have "obvious" negative effects.
"It doesn’t matter if they’re getting money from the Emirates, from Egypt, from the Americans, or weapons from us. These people are, fundamentally, gang members...to say that they can present themselves as an alternative to Hamas is a complete exaggeration," Milshtein said.

[IsraelTimes] Saudi Arabia has transferred a $90 million grant to the Palestinian Authority aimed at allowing the cash-strapped Ramallah to continue operating.
Formal notice of the grant was presented to PA Finance Minister Estephan Salameh by Saudi Ambassador to the Palestinians Prince Mansour bin Khalid on Monday.
The Saudi envoy said in a statement that the grant further demonstrates Riyadh’s commitment to supporting the PA and to helping it meet its financial obligations.
He said that the tranche of a grant is part of the Saudi leadership’s commitment to support the Palestinian government and help it meet its financial obligations.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has refused to sign off on monthly transfers since May as retribution for the decisions by Western countries to recognize a Palestinian state. Even before that, though, Israel had been withholding millions of dollars each month to offset what it said were the payments that the PA makes to the families of security prisoners and slain attackers. The total amount of funds withheld amounts to several billion dollars, the PA claims.
The clearance revenues that Israel is required to collect and transfer to Ramallah each month make up a majority of the PA’s budget, and the lack of these funds has meant public employees have gone months without receiving a full paycheck or sometimes any salary at all.
Against this backdrop, Saudi Arabia, Norway France and Spain have launched an international fundraising campaign aimed at preventing the PA’s collapse.
While the Biden administration had urged Israel to release the Palestinian funds, the Trump administration has yet to publicly make such a call.
