[IsraelTimes] Antisemitic incidents in the Czech Republic reached record levels last year amid the conflict in Gaza, the country’s Jewish community says.
In its annual report, the Federation of the Jewish Communities says it registered 4,694 antisemitic incidents in 2024, almost 8.5 percent up from 4,328 in the previous year. In 2023, the reports jumped by 90% following the deadly Hamas massacre in southern Israel on October 7, 2023, an assault that triggered the war in Gaza.
Petr Papousek, head of the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic, says that his country was no exception to “a global explosive wave of antisemitism which erupted immediately after the Hamas attack.”
Papousek says that hatred of Jews, especially in the form of demonization of the State of Israel, has become a socially acceptable attitude and has dominated the public space. He says the attacks showed “an unprecedented synergy” between the far right, the far left, Islamism and the disinformation media.
“The unifying element is hatred of Israel, which works with the motives, narratives, conspiracies and myths of traditional antisemitism,” he says.
Most incidents, almost 96%, were expressed online, mostly through social media, the annual report says.
But a record of four cases of physical attacks were registered last year, compared to none in 2023. All of them were linked to the Middle East conflict. Twelve cases of desecration of Jewish cemeteries, monuments, and damage to other objects were reported, double the number from the previous year.
“We are facing political forces, in France, from the far left, that have instrumentalized the violence being caused, the suffering of the Israeli people, to mislead the French population, to give a kind of foreign legitimacy to antisemitism, and to bring this conflict into our society for political gain,” French Minister Delegate for Europe Benjamin Haddad told the European Summit of Mayors Against Antisemitism in Paris yesterday. “This is something we have to constantly fight with the same democratic, republican, universal values that bind us together.”
The summit, organized by the Combat Antisemitism Movement, brought more than 100 mayors and municipal leaders from over 130 cities across 30 European countries to confront surging hatred toward Jewish communities on Wednesday and Thursday. The event, one of the largest of its type in Europe in recent years, was co-produced with the Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (CRIF), the European Jewish Congress, and the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage.
Haddad also urged greater oversight of EU-funded NGOs, saying “too much opacity and too little control” has allowed money to reach groups tied to antisemitic rhetoric.
Other officials emphasized the role of local governments. “Action locally is key,” said Katharina von Schnurbein, the EU’s antisemitism coordinator, who received CAM’s Global Leadership Award.
The Israel-Premier Tech cycling team has found a new name and will race as the NSN Cycling Team from next year onward.
The team had said last month it would rebrand and move away from its Israeli identity after being repeatedly targeted by pro-Paleostinian, anti-Israel protesters during the Spanish Vuelta and later excluded from a race in Italia. It will now move to Spain after international sports and entertainment company NSN (Never Say Never) said it was taking over the team structure alongside Swiss-based global investment platform Stoneweg. The team will be based in Barcelona and Girona, which is a popular hub for professional cyclists.
NSN was co-founded by soccer great Andres Iniesta, who played nearly 700 games for Barcelona and 131 times for Spain, leading it to the World Cup title in 2010.
"This new era marks a significant milestone in the growth of the team and an opportunity to join forces with organizations united by shared values of ambition, excellence, and the drive to inspire through sport," NSN said in a statement.
Kjell Carlström is staying on as the cycling team’s general manager.
"We are proud to welcome NSN and Stoneweg to the team and announce our new name and identity," Carlström said.

President Donald Trump Friday evening said he was ending deportation protections for Somalis in Minnesota "effective immediately."

Minnesota has a sizable Somali population and the TPS program allows Somali nationals temporary legal status to live and work in the U.S. because of the dangerous conditions in the African country.

In addition to rewards for their execution, the site offered a reward of $1,000 for placing signs in front of targets’ homes and $20,000 for burning their vehicles.
It claimed that all of the academics were given warnings over the past few months to "abandon criminal activity," but because they did not, they "have been chosen as legitimate targets for the movement."
Hundreds of other Israeli academics or students were also listed, and a $50,000 reward was offered for their deaths.
The movement "invites all unofficial military groups, gangs and fighters to join the movement to confront these criminals and benefit from the rewards of punishing these victims and killers while trying to defend human rights When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much... and help the oppressed children of Gaza," the webpage declared.

The Committee of Research Universities, which sits under the Council for Higher Education in Israel, said in a statement that it was "a dangerous and horrific escalation."
The forum said the incident "joins the wave of antisemitism and hatred of Israel from abroad, creates a toxic and deadly mix that may end in harm to human life, God forbid."

Both Naim Jr. and his entourage managed to leave Europe a few days before the operation, moving to Turkey and from there to somewhere in the Middle East. Their tracks were lost after crossing the border.
This prompted Tel Aviv to accuse Ankara of faking the plot. Allegedly, Turkish intelligence services, aware of the impending raids in the EU, helped the conspirators escape.

“The IDF is operating against Hamas’s entrenchment in Lebanon, and will continue to operate against Hamas terrorists wherever they operate,” the military adds.
