In the statement signed by the President of CAN Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the Association 'affirms, without hesitation, that many Christian communities in parts of Nigeria, especially in the North, have suffered severe attacks, loss of life, and the destruction of places of worship. These realities are painful reminders of the urgent need for government and security agencies to act decisively to protect every citizen, regardless of region.'
'Our concern remains that these cries for justice and protection are too often met with delay or denial,' the statement continues. 'We therefore renew our call on government and security agencies to take urgent, transparent, and equitable action to end the killings, safeguard vulnerable Christian communities from displacement, and ensure that perpetrators face the full weight of the law. The pain of Christian families torn apart by violence must never be treated as mere statistics.'
The clarification follows the earlier publication of a comment in Nigerian media attributed to a CAN official and portrayed erroneously as being CAN's official position, which had refuted claims made by US comedian Bill Maher of an ongoing genocide against Christians, and had asserted that 'the pattern of killings has truly not been in a particular pattern'. The comment was made amid a flurry of actions both in the US and Nigeria seeking to either offset or support the redesignation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 in November.

''Eighty percent or more of those affected by Boko Haram are Moslems from the Kanuri areas. In northern Borno, most of the local governments affected are Moslem-dominated. This crisis did not start because of religion.''
He said that while communities with large Christian populations in southern Borno have been relatively less affected, nearly all local governments in northern Borno remain displaced or partially resettled.
''Even now, about twenty local governments in northern Borno are affected. Most of them are Moslems,'' he added.

The news of the ceasefire came after anti-Israel activist groups held widespread rallies this week for the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023, invasion of Israel that started the war in Gaza.
A Within Our Lifetime rally marking October 7 sparked outrage among members of Congress and federal officials when one of the group’s leaders, Abdullah Akl, told a crowd, "We did not act enough."
"We will show up stronger than we did the first October 7th," he said. "We will keep fighting until Paleostine is free, from the river ot the sea."
Earlier this year, during a previous ceasefire in Gaza, anti-Zionist activists hailed the development as a victory for the "resistance" and also pledged to continue their activism.

"A three-judge panel for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Wednesday unanimously lifted a lower court order that blocked President Donald Trump’s attempt to federalize 200 Oregon National Guard troops for deployment in Portland.
For now, the Ninth Circuit’s decision to lift U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut’s order from over the weekend is unlikely to allow the Trump administration to deploy soldiers to Portland.
Immergut issued a second order earlier this week flatly barring the government from sending federalized Guard troops to the state.
In its four-page order, the panel noted that since the Trump administration did not appeal Immergut’s second order, it remains in effect.

[IsraelTimes] Indonesia will block Israeli athletes from competing at the upcoming gymnastics world championships in Jakarta, a government official says.
The decision to deny visas to the Israeli athletes comes after their planned participation had sparked intense opposition in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation, which has long been a staunch supporter of Palestinians but whose president recently defended Israel at the United Nations.
Israel is among 86 countries registered to compete at the tournament that starts in Jakarta on October 19, with a team highlighted by 2020 Olympic gold medalist and defending world champion Artem Dolgopyat in the men’s floor exercise.
Now its participation is in doubt, even though the Israeli Gymnastics Federation said in July that it had been assured by Indonesian officials that it would be welcome at the worlds. That would have gone against Indonesia’s long-standing policy of refusing to host Israeli sports delegations for major events.
Today, Indonesia’s senior minister of law, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, makes it clear the Israeli team will not be allowed into the country, despite Israel and Hamas having agreed to a ceasefire.
“The government will not grant visas to Israeli gymnasts who intend to attend the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta,” Mahendra said.
He adds in a video statement that the decision is in line with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s previous directives on various occasions. But in his UN speech last month, Subianto also called for respecting Israel’s security and ended his speech with “Shalom.”
“We must also recognize, we must also respect, and we must also guarantee the safety and security of Israel. Only then we can have real peace,” Subianto said.
Mahendra acknowledged that the Indonesian Gymnastics Federation had previously submitted a sponsorship letter for six Israeli athletes to obtain visas, but that “the federation has withdrawn the sponsorship letter.”
In recent days, Indonesian politicians and moderate Muslim groups had increased calls for the Israeli team to be barred from the worlds. They have been joined by a flood of outraged comments on social media by users objecting to the arrival of athletes from a country they say is committing genocide, an accusation Israel adamantly rejects.
The Israeli Gymnastic Federation did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The gymnastics spat is the latest example of how the global backlash against Israel over the war in Gaza has spread into the arenas of sports and culture.

[IsraelTimes] Dozens of Israeli peace activists, both Jews and Arabs, representing organizations including Peace Now, Women Wage Peace, the Parents Circle – Families Forum, and others, met this afternoon with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.
The meeting was relatively unusual. During the two years of war in Gaza following the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, Israeli peace organizations have rarely met with Abbas. The meeting had been planned before this morning’s announcement of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
The group of peace organizations that participated in the meeting – the “It’s Time” coalition – called the meeting the beginning of a “new era.”
“The era of managing the conflict is over,” the coalition told The Times of Israel. “Today begins a new era – an era of hope. The deal to release the hostages and establish a ceasefire is a moment of grace and a historic opportunity to end the cycle of wars and open a political process that will bring security, equality, freedom, and peace to both peoples.”
Also present at the meeting was Arab-Israeli Knesset Member Ayman Odeh, chair of the Hadash-Ta’al party.
According to participants in the meeting, Abbas praised the ceasefire deal, saying, “I welcome the agreement signed today, the end of the war, and the release of the hostages.”
He reportedly added: “I have been waiting for this meeting, and the presence of your delegation here strengthens the hope for peace. Hope begins today, and now we must ensure that we continue and realize peace. Every Israeli who believes in peace is our brother.”

[IsraelTimes] Hamas takes responsibility for a failed attack on an IDF post on the southern outskirts of Gaza City yesterday, while claiming it attempted to kidnap a soldier.
In a statement, Hamas claims that its fighters managed to raid an Israeli army encampment and open fire on troops from close range, “causing a number of them to be killed or injured.” The terror group also says it launched RPGs at Israeli tanks in the area.
“Our fighters attempted to capture one of the enemy soldiers, but the field conditions did not allow it,” the terror group’s military wing claims.
Yesterday, the IDF said that the attempted attack was carried out by at least five Hamas gunmen who had emerged from a tunnel. An Israeli Air Force drone struck and killed three of them as they were approaching the post, according to the military. The other two fled.
The IDF said no soldiers were injured in the incident, and the operatives did not manage to breach the military post.

Terror groups in the Gaza Strip are holding 48 hostages, including 47 of the 251 kidnapped by Hamas ..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",... -led Death Eaters on October 7, 2023. They include the bodies of at least 26 confirmed dead by the IDF. Twenty are believed to be alive and there are grave concerns for the well-being of two others, Israeli officials have said. Among the bodies held by Hamas is that of an IDF soldier killed in Gaza in 2014.
Under the terms of Trump’s plan, all of the hostages are supposed to be returned to Israel within 72 hours of the ceasefire coming into effect.
However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk... during the negotiations, Hamas told mediators and Israel that it does not know the location of some deceased hostages. The terror group said it will struggle to meet the 72-hour deadline for all of the hostages, and Israel is aware of this but believes all of the bodies will eventually be returned.
Although Israel has said that the return of all of the hostages is a critical part of the agreement, the process of finding those who are missing is expected to take some time.
"Since we expect there to be difficulties, we acted to set up an international task force that will have everything needed, including information and resources, to return the hostages to Israel," government hostage point man Gal Hirsch told Haaretz.
Aside from halting the war, in exchange for the hostages Israel will also release hundreds of Paleostinian security prisoners, including many who were convicted of deadly terror attacks on Israelis.
Three Israeli officials confirmed to CNN ...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for... on Wednesday that Hamas might not be able to find all the dead hostages. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has known for months that this is the case, according to the officials.
One official said that seven to nine bodies might not be retrieved, while another put that figure at between 10 and 15. The assessments are based on Israeli intelligence and information that is coming out of the talks in Egypt, the report said, though there is no way to know the exact figure.
The Times of Israel previously reported that the terror group has, in the past, told mediators it does not know where some of the bodies of dead hostages are located.
Hamas released 30 hostages — 20 Israeli civilians, five soldiers, and five Thai nationals — and the bodies of eight slain Israeli captives during a ceasefire between January and March 2025, and one additional hostage, a dual American-Israeli citizen, in May 2025 as a "gesture" to the United States. The terror group freed 105 civilians during a weeklong truce in late November 2023, and four hostages were released before that in the early weeks of the war. In exchange, Israel has freed some 2,000 tossed in the clink Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try! Paleostinian terrorists, security prisoners, and Gazook terror suspects detained during the war.
Eight hostages have been rescued from captivity by troops alive, and the bodies of 51 have also been recovered, including three mistakenly killed by the Israeli military as they tried to escape their captors, and the body of a soldier who was killed in 2014.

"The notion is to make it collegial, if you will. And the Israelis will obviously be in constant touch with them," the first official said.

"And therefore it was passed on to Hamas that we were taking a very strong role, or the president was taking a very strong position in standing behind his guarantees and his commitments here."
The second official said the US personnel were intended "to help create the joint control center and then integrate all the other security forces that will be going in there to deconflict with the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces)."
The soldiers will have expertise in transportation, planning, security, logistics and engineering, according to one of the officials, who added that the troops have already begun arriving and will continue to travel to the region over the weekend to begin planning and efforts to establish the center.
A source familiar with the matter told The Times of Israel that the US troops will likely be stationed in Egypt, but White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt indicated that the troops would be deployed to Israel.
It’s unclear how an Israeli-based command center would operate, though, given that the White House officials revealing the plan said that Qatari, Egyptian and Ottoman Turkish troops would also be involved in the effort, making Egypt a more practical host country, as Israel does not have normalized diplomatic relations with Qatar and its ties with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...a NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions... member, but not the most reliable... are rocky at best.
The officials’ remarks provided some of the first details on how the ceasefire deal would be monitored and that the US military would have a role in that effort. After Israel and Hamas agreed to the first phase of a Trump administration plan to halt the fighting, a litany of questions remains on the next steps, including Hamas disarmament, a withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and a future government in the territory.
Along with helping monitor implementation of the ceasefire agreement, one of the officials said the new team will assist with the transition to a civilian government in Gaza.
No formal timetable was given for when the center would be fully operative, but in a show of readiness, Cooper told mediators during the negotiations in Egypt that he could have the command post up and running in the next two and a half weeks.
Cooper earned praise from Trump during a cabinet meeting on Thursday, saying he had worked alongside special envoy Steve Witkoff, his son-in-law Jared Kushner and Secretary of State Marco Rubio ...The diminutive 13-year-old Republican U.S. Senator from Florida, Secretary of State in the second Trump administration... "Cooper — I hear he’s been fantastic," Trump said.
Trump announced Wednesday that the breakthrough deal to halt the fighting was reached after the United States and mediators in the region pressured both Israel and Hamas to end the two-year-long war sparked by the Paleostinian terror group’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.
That push sealed an agreement on a first phase that would free the remaining living Israeli hostages within days in exchange for the release of close to 2,000 Paleostinian prisoners, and a pullback of IDF troops in Gaza.

It was never realistic for Trump to receive the prize this year. Nomination process closed in January, and the cease-fire was only decided yesterday (and could have been broken today). This committee doesn't make last minute decisions.
Should there be a lasting success in Gaza, this might be a different story next year.
Machado is a good choice. Maduro's headache just got bigger.

I think it's a shame the way the Nobel Committee disgraced themselves by awarding the Peace Prize to Obama. At the time they said it was "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples". But if, as EC says, the nomination process is closed in January, Obama hadn't even taken office yet when they awarded him the prize. The appearance was and still is that he was given the award because he was the first black POTUS and a Democrat/globalist to boot.
Obama kept a meaningless war in Afghanistan going long after it was apparent that only death, destruction and defeat could be accomplished there. He organized and attempted to organize the overthrow of several governments including Lybia and Ukraine, thereby starting wars in those countries that are still raging. A man of peace? Hardly. Now the prize means nothing. They can stuff it up their butts.
