Monday Kunstler-Bedlam is in the air, and in more varieties than Heinz has pickles.
Do you hear those alarm bells ringing? Looks like June is bustin’ out all over, as the old Broadway ditty goes. Bedlam is in the air, and in more varieties than Heinz has pickles. Take your pick: civil war blooming in France and the UK, maybe even Germany — if it can shake off its psychotic stupor. World War III flutters over the continent like an answered prayer coming in for a landing. And here in the USA, genuine insurrection ripens with the summer’s peaches.
Parisriot
The Champs Elysees was a battlefield Saturday night as a soccer celebration went all Jihad, leaving two rioters dead and hundreds arrested (unreported inThe New York Times, of course, because. . . reasons). The two Alexanders at The Duran report that a plot is underway in London to deep-six (not eighty-six) Labour PM Sir Keir Starmer, who enjoys the lowest poll ratings in the history of British polling.
A wonderful idea. The man is charmingly evil.
Ol’ Keir likes to throw grannies in jail for rude Facebook posts while Islamic rape gangs do their thing and knife attacks multiply on the indigenous population. Not a good look. Perennial nationalist irritant Tommy Robinson was released from prison the other day, too, and you can expect fury arising around him, and at him, as the sceptered isle day-by-day disappears under a burqa.
Germany and Ukraine discussion skipped.
All of this puts Mr. Trump in a bind. His efforts to negotiate peace are on-the-rocks for now, as is his (America’s) ability to control the maniac globalist warmongers of NATO. Many in the US, and Mr. Trump himself, make noises about backing off the big mess altogether and dissociating from a NATO alliance that has lost its purpose and meaning, becoming, in fact, a menace to our interests.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
The enemy did not win, Russia did not lose. Why do we need the myth of the 'Tsushima disgrace' (1904-‘05)
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Stanislav Smirnov

[REGNUM] The publication of two articles for the 120th anniversary of the Russo-Japanese War of 1904–1905 — materials dedicated to the Battle of Mukden and the Battle of Tsushima — has provoked an active reaction on social networks. The author drew attention to some of the responses — in the Telegram channels “ Military Scientific Archive ” and “ Turkestan General Staff Officer ”. In the end, the objections fit into the historical narrative that emerged after 1917 about Japan’s military superiority over the backward Russian army.

But critics ignore the facts and figures cited in the published articles. In particular, the approximate equality of Russian and Japanese losses in all major battles in the theater of military operations in Manchuria (battles at sea are a separate topic, and we covered it in detail in the article dedicated to Tsushima) - an equality that became fatal for the enemy.

The reasons for the allegedly "incompetent" command of Alexei Kuropatkin were left unattended, and in particular one of the most important reasons - the threefold superiority in forces of the enemy in the first period of the war. Likewise, it was overlooked that when this balance of forces changed, the Japanese immediately asked for peace and eventually abandoned most of their initial demands.

The author does not claim that Russia won the Russo-Japanese War. But following a number of other researchers, including those with high academic degrees, and following the commander-in-chief of the Russo-Japanese War, Nicholas II, he states that there was neither a winner nor a loser in the battle.

This is despite the fact that, being armed to the teeth by England, France and Germany, having a multiple advantage in manpower, artillery, and navy, Japan - as it seemed to itself and its Western patrons - was simply doomed to a crushing victory in the blitzkrieg. But victory did not happen, Russia held out. And, having gathered its strength, having completed the Trans-Siberian Railway, having increased its group to 1 million bayonets and sabres, it was able to defeat Japan, squeezing it out of China.

But such a development of events was prevented by domestic political circumstances - turmoil, which was used by the fifth column with money from American bankers and Japanese intelligence. Here the author relies on the work of historian Sergei Petrov and Doctor of Historical Sciences, leading research fellow of the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dmitry Pavlov " Japanese Money and the Russian Revolution ".

One more remark. Describing the supposedly catastrophic defeats of the Russian army in Manchuria, opponents draw parallels with the "Great Retreat" in 1915. Objectively, both in 1904-1905 and in 1915, our troops retreated.

But how and with what consequences? As follows from the 9-volume Military Historical Commission of the General Staff (St. Petersburg, 1910), which collected about 40 thousand documents of the Manchurian armies, the entire series of retreats for the whole of 1904 and the beginning of 1905 - from the Kwantung (Liaodong) Peninsula to Sipingai - did not exceed 200 miles.

It is difficult to compare this with the consequences of the difficult retreats for our army in 1915 and especially 1941.

Further, the author will allow himself to make several general comments.

Centuries and eras follow each other, but human nature and the essence of international relations remain unchanged. Today, the world is as complex and full of contradictions as it was in the times of Ivan the Terrible or Nicholas II. The latter's father, Emperor Alexander III, liked to repeat that Russia has only two allies - its army and navy. This is obviously how things stand now. At the same time, the army is strong not only because of its strong discipline and advanced technology. Above all, its strength lies in its fortitude of spirit, and that, in turn, is achieved by learning from the examples of the past. If a warrior carries in his memory and heart the knowledge of the exploits of distant ancestors and a reverent attitude towards them, he is spiritually ready to repeat heroic deeds in new conditions.
All true. Don’t forget to feed, clothe, and pay your soldiers, guys. That, too, is showing respect.
One of the clear examples of the military feat of Russian soldiers, officers and commanders was the war with Japan, which began with a surprise attack on the Russian Pacific Fleet on January 27, 1904.

From the first days of that war, Russia's ill-wishers spread myths about the "catastrophic" and "shameful" defeats of the Russian troops. Such exaggerations served purely political purposes - to demoralize society and the government and to break through to power. Later, the myth about the supposedly crushing defeat of Russia in the war with Japan, implanted by historians and publicists of the Soviet school, solved the problem of "post factum justification" of the revolutions of 1905 and 1917.

The Russo-Japanese War ended for Russia with certain concessions and losses, but by no means with a crushing defeat, as biased publicists and historians tried and are trying to present.

One can argue about the correctness of the strategy chosen by the Commander-in-Chief of the Manchurian armies, General Kuropatkin, but - let us emphasize - given the enormous advantages of Japan, which had been purposefully preparing for war for almost a whole decade, such a strategy seems justified. The enemy never managed to utterly defeat our armies.

There were no fatal encirclements or catastrophic "cauldrons" in this war. There were organized retreats and losses commensurate with the enemy's losses. The latter circumstance concealed Japan's final defeat, since it was many times inferior to Russia in human and material resources.

The defeat at Tsushima, declared by its opponents as proof of “Russia’s military collapse,” had a resounding political and psychological effect, but little strategic consequence, since the fate of the war was ultimately decided not at sea, but on land.

As already noted, the Japanese blitzkrieg failed because the enemy did not achieve the goals it set: to capture not only Korea and Manchuria, but also Primorye and the Amur region, to weaken the Pacific Fleet, and to compensate the aggressor for all of its expenses for the war.

The negotiations in Portsmouth were conducted on the basis of the fact that "Japan did not win - Russia did not lose". Nicholas II resolutely demanded from the Russian delegation: not an inch of Russian land, not a kopeck of contributions, otherwise - continuation of the war until complete victory. Let us repeat: by the summer of 1905, Russia had a large advantage in military force, the morale of the Manchurian armies was high; the capacity of the completed Trans-Siberian Railway increased from 3 to 14 pairs of trains per day in 1904, which ensured the rapid delivery of reinforcements.

But — let us emphasize once again — the deterioration of the domestic political situation forced the Tsar to agree to peace talks and certain concessions. It is characteristic that the treaty signed in Portsmouth, USA, with the mediation of US President Theodore Roosevelt was regarded in the world as a success of Russian diplomacy. Roosevelt himself noted that the Russian delegation headed by Count Sergei Witte achieved not just a mutually acceptable result, but a result that was disadvantageous for the seemingly victorious Japan: "I think that the Japanese have given up more than was necessary."

Even London, where they were openly rooting for their Far Eastern partners, was forced to admit this. As The Standard noted, “Russia had won one of its greatest diplomatic victories, fully in line with Witte’s statement: ‘Not a single kopeck in return.’”

In fact, initially the Mikado's representatives demanded that the entire Sakhalin Island they had captured be handed over to Japan, that all Japanese ships interned by Russia be returned, that Russian naval forces in the Far East be limited, and that a contribution be paid.

But the only thing they managed to achieve was the transfer of part of Sakhalin south of the 50th parallel, given that Russia and Japan mutually agreed “not to build any fortifications in their possessions on Sakhalin Island and the islands adjacent to it.” Although the domestic press nicknamed Witte “ Count Half-Sakhalin,” it was difficult to deny that Russia returned the northern part of the island without any contributions.

At the same time, Japan was openly dissatisfied with the outcome of the war. The world press wrote about the riots that broke out in Tokyo (at least 30,000 angry subjects of the Mikado demonstrated in Hibiya Park) and about the subsequent organizational conclusions from the Emperor: for the failure in Portsmouth, the Prime Minister Prince Katsura Taro resigned, and, most importantly, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marquis Kamura Jutaro, the creator of the Anglo-Japanese diplomatic alliance, who was responsible for the political preparation of the Russo-Japanese War, and in Portsmouth headed the Japanese delegation.

This hardly resembled the outcome of the “ total defeat of the weak tsarist army and backward Russia,” but rather a halt to the war and a military draw in the battle that was played out in August–September 1945. The assessment that Vladimir Lenin gave in an article on the occasion of the capture of Port Arthur by the Japanese: “Progressive, advanced Asia dealt an irreparable blow to backward and reactionary Europe… with Russia at the head… The Russian Pacific fleet, which was initially no less, if not more, powerful than the Japanese, was finally destroyed,” turned out to be premature.

The Pacific Fleet had been restored by 1914 (based on the Siberian Military Flotilla), and the blow, judging by the results in Portsmouth, was far from irreparable. So the courage and fortitude of Russian soldiers on the fields of Manchuria and in the defense of Port Arthur, inscribed in history in golden letters, were not in vain.

Economy
What's happening in real estate?
[American Thinker] It sure seems that the fizz has left the bottle. Commentators who really don’t know what they’re talking about are blaming high mortgage interest rates. Really? Right now, rates are at about 7.5% — kind of, depending on the borrower’s credit score, the down payment, and the actual type and condition of the property being purchased. When I bought my house almost forty years ago, rates were at 9%.

What really happened, and what no one wants to talk about, is that just about five years ago, rates were really low...artificially.

Low rates naturally increase buyers’ purchasing power, which tends to drive up prices. A lot of recent purchases were consequently done at greater than the actual value, being based on prior and subsequent market statistics. Many folks have since found themselves upside-down because they owe more than their house is worth...but at least their payments are not supposed to be too severe. Should they want to or should they have to move, they’ve got some serious things to consider.

Residing underneath this situation is the peril of government meddling with market-driven economic realities. Had rates never been knocked down to around 3% by economically challenged politicians, there would never have been such a price bubble, and today’s market would be fairly normal. But such is not the case, and a lot of homes are gathering dust on the shelf. An agent I used to know would often say that there’s never anything wrong with a property that lowering the price can’t fix.

Another issue involves the tax on capital gains. Many agents are rather poor at understanding the ins and outs of tax consequences, as is the public in general. An old friend wanted to pick my brain before he went to sell some rental units that he had inherited from his mother. He thought it unfair for an agent to charge about the same percentage commission on a particularly valuable property as on a fairly small house. I told him that first off, it’s a lot more work marketing a tenant-occupied apartment building than it is to sell a nicely vacant single-family residence (SFR). Also, he would get about a 20% discount on the commission — as well as all other costs associated with the sale, which are deducted from his capital gain basis.

#1  Rents will NEVER come down.

No matter how little demand there is.
There is a host of financial instruments tied to rent price, and if the landlord lowers the price, a chain reaction occurs and he has to pay a lot of money (which he does not have, obviously).
Financialization.
Turning OUR HOMES into investment vehicles so pieces of SHIT like Blackrock can go from super-rich to very slightly richer.
The more you learn about Blackrock, who they are and what hey do, the angrier you get. makes you want to get your musket out of the barn and ride to rouse the neighbors.

#3  Rents will NEVER come down.

No matter how little demand there is.

Oh, you sweet summer child. When demand has been low for a year or two, rental prices plummet, and those landlords who are not in a really solid place on the finances of the thing (mortgage + utilities + ongoing maintenance + taxes + savings against future large capital expenses) will end up losing it to the bank.

When we rented that lovely 1800 square foot house outside Frankfurt, Germany, we paid the first and last $1000 of the contracted amount, while Mr. Wife’s employer paid the rather large bit in the middle. When we left in 1994, during which time the majority of US military bases in Europe were closed, the rent the landlord was able to get was about a third less than our contract had listed. All the landlords near former American military bases in Europe were in the same pickle — there were significantly fewer potential renters, so prices dropped. The local renters were happy — the majority of German household live in rented accommodations, mostly apartments in multi-family buildings rather than single family houses, because that is all they can afford.

Incidentally, as illegals self-deport here in response to moves by the Trump administration, both rents and purchase prices will become more affordable at working class price points.

Europe
The ghost of the future is walking around Brussels
[American Thinker] Over the last month, we've seen an attack on Governor Josh Shapiro's home, the killing of a young couple in D.C., and now a Molotov cocktail thrown at people peacefully protesting. By the way, what do these incidents have in common? The targets are all Jewish and the guy in Boulder, Colorado somehow managed to get a work permit after his visa expired.

Where else is stuff like this happening? Let's check out Brussels, once a very traditional European city that tourists loved to visit. Well, check again because Brussels may be exhibit A of Europe’s disintegration and where uncontrolled immigration is running wild.

This is from Drieu Godefridi:

Brussels, the self-proclaimed capital of the European Union, is no longer the beacon of a united Europe, but an advanced symptom of its disintegration.

The normalization of radical Islamic and anti-Semitic discourse we are witnessing in Brussels is the result of 15 years of leaders abrogating their responsibility.
So many responsibilities abrogated, while the parties were unable to win national elections and pull together governing coalitions — at one point they went four years with caretaker governments, as I recall.
Brussels, through its inability --- or unwillingness -- to make unpleasant but necessary choices, is setting itself up as the first potential locus of protracted European unrest.

The Islamist Team Fouad Ahidar party embodies a new situation: a political Islam that no longer hides its identity. Instead, it advocates that a religious identity be the underpinning of national cohesion. This fragmentation reflects a profound breakdown in the social contract, between the old European society, which confines religion to the private sphere, and the "new Europeans" (Muslims), who want everything to be subject to their religious doctrine.

Crime rates are rising everywhere in Brussels, particularly in an area in the spotlight for its frequent shootings: the Bruxelles-Midi Zone (Saint-Gilles, Forest, Anderlecht). Between 2022 and 2023, notes the newspaper L'Echo, robberies and extortion rose by 23%, robberies without weapons by 34%, pickpocketing by 27%, and armed robberies by a staggering 53%.

Jew-hatred, often marketed in unconvincing, transparent disguises as "anti-Zionism," flourishes in many other Islamic-centered and radical left-wing circles.... in Brussels, Jew-hatred enjoys almost total impunity.

As of 2023, 74% of Brussels' population is of foreign background, compared to a European average of 10%... This demographic transformation or "great replacement," far from being accompanied by an effective integration policy, has saturated Brussels -- overcrowded schools, overwhelmed hospitals, sorely inadequate housing -- and exacerbated communal tensions.

In 2022, a report revealed that 35% of young people with an immigrant background in Brussels were living in households where nobody has a job -- a breeding ground for delinquency and radicalization.

Brussels is not only a city in crisis, it is a city on the brink of implosion.

Jew hatred? No kidding. It's more than that. It's what happens when societies don't reproduce and eventually have to bring in people to do the work. It makes matters worse when the new kid on the block doesn't respect your culture and is committed to undermine it. Chaos is the word.
I am profoundly grateful I got to live in Brussels back when it was still beautifully itself (if dirty — Belgians are absolutely not German (except maybe the German corner of the country, but they keep themselves to themselves)), and safe for a little Jewish-American housewife to wander through while running errands.

#1  "The great replacement" is an antiesemitic conspiracy theory.

Beware of this phrase when you ever see it uttered, it is a clear warning.
Here's what the Anti-Defamation League had to say in a letter to Fox News.
Last night, in a segment on his program dealing with voting rights and allegations of voter disenfranchisement, Tucker Carlson disgustingly gave an impassioned defense of the white supremacist “great replacement theory,” the hateful notion that the white race is in danger of being “replaced” by a rising tide of non-whites. While couching his argument in terms of what he described as the Democratic Party attempting to replace traditional voters with immigrants from third-world countries, Carlson’s rhetoric was not just a dog whistle to racists – it was a bullhorn.

Make no mistake: this is dangerous stuff. The “great replacement theory” is a classic white supremacist trope that undergirds the modern white supremacist movement in America. It is a concept that is discussed almost daily in online racist fever swamps. It is a notion that fueled the hateful chants of “Jews will not replace us!” in Charlottesville in 2017. And it has lit the fuse in explosive hate crimes, most notably the hate-motivated mass shooting attacks in Pittsburgh, Poway and El Paso, as well as in Christchurch, New Zealand.

#2  t was shocking to hear this kind of open-ended endorsement of white supremacist ideology from an anchor and commentator on your network. At ADL, we believe in dialogue and giving people a chance to redeem themselves, but Carlson’s full-on embrace of the white supremacist replacement theory on yesterday’s show and his repeated allusions to racist themes in past segments are a bridge too far.

Given his long record of race-baiting, we believe it is time for Carlson to go.

I’m available at any time to discuss this matter further and look forward to your timely response.

Sincerely,

Jonathan A. Greenblatt

#3  When the Warsaw ghetto was emptied, denial finally came to a rather abrupt end.

#4  Fisk incoming:

ADL pronouncements need to be taken with a grain of salt and a good deal of independent research, and therefore quoting them as an authority must be done exceedingly selectively. This is definitely not one of the times when their position is in any way determinative. Especially given that Mr. Greenblatt came to the ADL by way of the Obama White House, where he gloried in the title of President Obama’s Special Assistant.

The Great Replacement Theory is a long-proven goal of the Progressive governing elites, who strongly prefer their lumpenproletariat to be a good deal more docile and a great deal less independent, and can be depended on to call anything that makes them look bad a conspiracy theory, especially if — as so often has proved in recent years — it is true. Sometimes a cigar is used to light dynamite in addition to causing mouth, throat, and lung cancers. In this case, long before America’s white population would be replaced, her African-Americans would be, a fact that the male half of that segment is increasingly angry about — and turning to Donald Trump and the Republicans to remedy.

t was shocking to hear this kind of open-ended endorsement of white supremacist ideology from an anchor and commentator on your network.

Oddly enough, it has been quite a number of years since Mr. Carlson left Fox News and went independent — during COVID? — so the Progressive Mr. Greenblatt was responding to something that happened long ago, and may well be superseded by his philosophical evolution. I never followed him myself, preferring to get my information in written form, but as Rantburgers haven’t brought one of his interviews to our attention for quite some time, I have to assume that he no longer appeals strongly to our crowd.

It is a notion that fueled the hateful chants of “Jews will not replace us!” in Charlottesville in 2017.

We watched that protest here in real time — the articles can easily be found in Rantburg’s voluminous archives. What Mr. Greenblatt neglected to mention — given that his boss started out as an Antifa organizer, it’s highly likely to have been a subject of high fives in the West Wing private offices — is that there was a large contingent of Antifa there, so the odds are high that the chant Mr. Greenblatt objected to, assuming that was actually what was said rather than “You will not replace us,” which makes more sense in context, was being screeched by the Black Bloc there. See one After Action Report from our archives here.

#5  And then there’s this suggestion the whole thing was a false flag activity., also from the Rantburg archives. I could go on, but you will be better convinced if you do your own work.

Trump and GOP Take Aim at the ‘Judicial Coup'
[Patriot Post] If Tren de Aragua gang members aren’t "alien enemies" of the United States, aren’t able to be deported by the American president under the ancient Alien Enemies Act, then language itself has lost its meaning. But that’s the world we’re living in.

In a way, it shouldn’t surprise us. The Left, after all, has been at war with the language — and at war with reality — for decades. Indeed, they insist that men can become pregnant, that women can only be described by biologists, that pedophiles are merely minor-attracted persons, and that last year’s version of Joe Biden was the best Biden ever.

Nor should the current judicial war against Donald Trump surprise any of us. All throughout his first term, Trump and his agenda were sabotaged from within by entrenched deep-state leftists and by old-guard establishment Republicans. In this second term, though, with Trump having remade the Republican Party and having cleaned up the executive branch, the attacks are coming from without — from the third and supposedly coequal branch of government that Thomas Jefferson once presciently warned could become despotic: the judicial branch.

Since his inauguration, Trump has been busy trying to unscrew the mess bequeathed him by four years of the Autopen Presidency, but he’s been opposed at nearly every turn — from mass-deporting illegal aliens to ending birthright citizenship to trimming down our grotesquely bloated federal government to imposing tariffs on predatory trading partners — by lower-court judges and, in some cases, by the very Supreme Court justices that he nominated for the bench.

Hamas Agrees To Surrender If Europe Will Take Greta Thunberg Back
[Babylon Bee] GAZA — The tables were turned on the infamous terrorist organization today, with horrified Hamas agreeing to a full and unconditional surrender to Israel if Europe would agree to take Greta Thunberg back.

The well-known left-wing activist was said to be en route to Gaza by sea to make her presence felt in peace negotiations between the two warring sides, leaving Hamas scrambling to do whatever was necessary to stave off her arrival.

"Please, don't let this happen! We will do whatever it takes to keep her away," said Hamas spokesterrorist Abu Muhammed Zahir. "While we have a reputation for perpetrating violent and ruthless acts against our enemies, sending Greta Thunberg here is far beyond any definition of cruel and unusual punishment. We offer Israel our total surrender if Europe agrees to have this wretched harpy turn her ship around and go back to wherever she came from. Thank you, and death to Israel and America."

European officials declined to comment on the details of any negotiations with Hamas but did express strong reluctance to allow Thunberg to return to the continent. "No, that's not an option," said spokeseuropean Jurgen Burgen. "We finally had the opportunity to get her on board a ship bound for international waters. It is our intent to prevent her from ever coming back. We got rid of her. We wish the residents of Gaza the best when Greta makes it to shore. May God be merciful."

At publishing time, Hamas had reportedly not received any response to its desperate pleas to other Arab nations to come defend them from Thunberg.
