Serial arsonist loose in Dekalb co. Metro Atlanta
It seems a person or persons have set a series of building on fire.

At last check, 3 FD stations involved and responding.

Looking for more current video now.
[MSN] Crews are currently battling a massive fire that started at a tire shop in DeKalb County, but quickly grew on Saturday afternoon.

DeKalb County fire officials confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that a portion of Covington Hwy. is closed near Panola Road while firefighters work.

Fire officials say it started as a car fire at a tire shop, but quickly grew to a grass fire and took over two storage sheds on the property.

There is no word on any injuries.

This comes as all of north Georgia remains under a Red Flag Warning for high fire danger because of dry air and gusty winds, meaning that fires could quickly spread.

The warning lasts until 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Somali Government Detains Senior Macawiisley Militia Officer Amid Allegations of Al-Shabaab Ties
[ShabelleMedia] Somalia’s government has confirmed the detention of a senior officer from the Macawiisley militia, a pro-government clan-based force engaged in the ongoing battle against al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
Death Eaters in Hirshabelle.

The Macawiisley militia, primarily made up of pastoralist herders, plays a significant role in countering al-Shabaab’s presence in central Somalia. The militia is known for its support of government forces in the fight against the krazed killer group.

A military helicopter reportedly transported the detained officer from the Middle Shabelle region to Mogadishu after an operation. The officer, identified as Wabiir, was recently seen in a video filmed by al-Shabaab, raising suspicions about his possible links to the bad boy group.

Wabiir was later observed in areas controlled by both the Somali government and the Macawiisley militia, further intensifying concerns regarding his loyalty. The government has launched an investigation into whether he provided assistance to al-Shabaab.

Major General Hassan Ali Nuur Shuute, Chairman of the Somali Armed Forces Court, confirmed that a thorough inquiry would be conducted, as authorities remain keen to establish whether Wabiir acted in collaboration with the bad boys.

The case has sparked online debates, with social media users questioning Wabiir’s possible ties to al-Shabaab, given that it is believed that individuals in his position cannot easily escape the group’s control. The Somali government has pledged to intensify efforts to uncover the truth and ensure accountability for anyone found cooperating with al-Shabaab.

Barnard College expels 2 students who disrupted Israel history class last month
[IsraelTimes] Anti-Israel student coalition at US institution shares footage of activists interrupting class, saying course ‘legitimizes the zionist entity’; Hillel president praises expulsion. Columbia University Apartheid Divest said in a statement that the punishment “marks a serious escalation in the crackdown against students advocating for divestment against the Israeli war machine.”

NYC university system’s faculty union backtracks after Israel boycott vote
[IsraelTimes] CUNY’s Professional Staff Congress, representing 30,000 members, reverses support for divisive divestment measure due to ‘irregularities’ in voting.

The union, the Professional Staff Congress (PSC), has been a battleground for anti-Israel activism for years, and some Jewish professors have long accused the group of bias and discrimination.

The vote to boycott Israel was divisive within the union, and drew criticism from the CUNY administration, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and two groups representing Jewish and pro-Israel faculty in the CUNY system.

The union leadership opposed the boycott, and the vote was controversial and close, so the leadership checked whether alternates had voted when they were not allowed to and found the irregularities, Philipp said.

Passing an Israel boycott vote could have hurt the union in negotiations with city and state officials who oppose such a measure.

George Washington University Retaliated Against Jewish Students Who Lodged Anti-Semitism Complaint, Federal Probe Finds
[FreeBeacon] A federal civil rights investigation uncovered evidence that the George Washington University faculty retaliated against Jewish students based on "shared ancestry-related advocacy" by placing them in a remediation program after the students lodged an anti-Semitism complaint against an anti-Israel professor. The Department of Education also ordered the school to conduct a review of former GW psychology professor Lara Sheehi’s social media posts—which included calls to "destroy Zionism" and described Israelis as "genocidal fucks"—to determine if the comments created a "hostile environment" for Jewish and Israeli students.

The Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights raised the concerns in a confidential settlement letter with GW on Jan. 16, which followed a two-year investigation, the Washington Free Beacon has learned. As part of the settlement, GW agreed to "review and revise" its anti-discrimination policies and train professors against "unlawful discrimination." The school also agreed to expunge any disciplinary action from the students’ records.

A group of Jewish and Israeli psychology students at GW filed the civil rights complaint in 2023, saying the school failed to protect them after they were "singled out for repeated and persistent harassment" by anti-Israel professors and classmates in the program and later subjected to retaliation when they complained. StandWithUs, the group that brought the complaint on behalf of the students, told the Free Beacon that the settlement letter was a positive step.

Northwestern University Mandatory Anti-Discrimination Training Pushes Unverified CAIR Data
[FreeBeacon] 'This omission is not an oversight; it reflects Northwestern's ongoing pattern of sidelining Jewish concerns in response to activist pressure,' anti-Semitism expert says.

All Northwestern students, faculty, and staff across all departments, must watch the nearly 20-minute video training, obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, and is part of a 3-hour online course created by the university.

"Reports from Northwestern University faculty and staff suggest that its so-called anti-discrimination training does the opposite of what it claims," Coalition Against Antisemitism at Northwestern president Michael Teplitsky told the Free Beacon. "Instead of fostering genuine inclusion, it selectively elevates certain perspectives while excluding Israeli students from the conversation—despite these students facing some of the most severe harassment and intimidation on U.S. college campuses."

US federal task force to visit 10 campuses to tackle antisemitism
[IsraelTimes] The US Department of Justice says an antisemitism task force will visit 10 university campuses that saw antisemitic incidents since October 2023.

The visits stem from US President Donald Trump’s executive order to combat antisemitism that was issued last month, part of a wider effort by the new administration to pressure universities to crack down on anti-Jewish discrimination.

The head of the task force, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Leo Terrell, says the group will meet with university leaders, students, staff and law enforcement.

“The task force’s mandate is to bring the full force of the federal government to bear in our effort to eradicate antisemitism, particularly in schools,” Terrell says in a statement.

The universities that will be visited are:
Columbia University
George Washington University
Harvard University
Johns Hopkins University
New York University
Northwestern University
The University of California, Los Angeles
The University of California, Berkeley
The University of Minnesota
The University of Southern California

The visits are announced after anti-Israel protesters at Barnard College, an affiliate of New York’s Columbia University, invaded a campus building on Wednesday, injuring a university employee. The protest was widely condemned by state and national lawmakers.

NY governor orders Hunter College to remove Palestinian studies job listing
[IsraelTimes] New York’s governor has ordered a state school to remove a job posting for a Palestinian studies teaching position this week, saying she wanted to ensure “antisemitic theories” would not be taught.

The job posting at Hunter College had called for a historian “who takes a critical lens to issues pertaining to Palestine including but not limited to settler-colonialism, genocide, human rights, apartheid, migration, climate and infrastructure devastation, health, race, gender, and sexuality,” according to screenshots published by the New York Post, which first reported the job announcement.

Following the coverage, Governor Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, ordered the City University of New York school to remove the posting “and conduct a thorough review of the position to ensure that antisemitic theories are not promoted in the classroom,” her office says in a statement.

The CUNY Board of Trustees agreed, and university officials have since removed the posting for a “Palestinian Studies Cluster Hire,” which was marked as expired on Friday.

“We find this language divisive, polarizing and inappropriate and strongly agree with Governor Hochul’s direction to remove this posting,” say Chairperson William C. Thompson Jr. and Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez, adding they will work “to tackle antisemitism on our campuses and combat hate in all of its forms.”

The governor’s statement adds that no class is being canceled.

Rutgers lecturer, UNRWA official join Hamas-affiliated org webinar
[Jpost] Hamid Abdeljaber, a lecturer for Middle Eastern Studies and former press officer for the UN, spoke in the webinar titled “UNRWA after the ban law and the arrival of Trump,” which aired on the Facebook page of the European Palestinian Information Center. UNRWA media adviser Adnan Abu Hasna also spoke at the livestream event, claiming, “At the end of the day, we at UNRWA were one of the victims of what happened on October 7,” Jewish Insider quoted.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-New Jersey) reacted to Abdeljaber’s participation in the webinar, “It’s outrageous that yet another Rutgers faculty member, Hamid Abdeljaber, spoke on an antisemitic webinar tied to Hamas, a US-designated foreign terrorist organization. Not only did Hamid defend Hamas as part of a so-called ‘resistance,’ but he also celebrated its actions while promoting harmful antisemitic tropes and false narratives," he said in a released statement.

He continued, "This is just the latest example of rampant antisemitism on campus that threatens the safety of Jewish students. It follows a Faculty Union December 2024 vote to approve an antisemitic BDS resolution. Last year, a university-funded center openly promoted antisemitic, anti-Israel propaganda. Jewish students at Rutgers deserve to feel safe and welcome on campus and in the classroom."

Minneapolis man charged with trying to join the Islamic State group
[ShabelleMedia] A Minneapolis man who allegedly expressed admiration for the truck attack in New Orleans that killed 14 people has been accused of trying to join the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, federal prosecutors announced Friday.

Abdisatar Ahmed Hassan, 22, made his first court appearance on a charge of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. He was ordered held without bail until a detention hearing March 5.

The chief federal defender for Minnesota, Katherian Roe, said her office will represent him but declined to comment on the case.

The criminal complaint against Hassan, a naturalized U.S. citizen, alleges that he tried twice in December to travel from Minnesota to Somalia to join the group but did not succeed. It says he claimed he was going to visit family but had none there.

Prosecutors said the FBI’s investigation established that Hassan expressed public support for the group in multiple posts on social media and also praised Shamsud-Din Jabbar on TikTok over the New Orleans attack.

Investigators say Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas native and U.S. Army veteran, posted videos professing allegiance to the Islamic State group and an intent to harm others before he plowed a pickup through a crowd of New Year’s revelers on Bourbon Street on Jan. 1. Police fatally shot him during an exchange of gunfire at the scene.

Hassan also allegedly posted a video last week, of himself driving while holding an Islamic State group flag inside his vehicle. The FBI said it also observed him driving with the flag Wednesday. He was arrested on Thursday.

The charging documents also say police in New York notified the FBI last May that Hassan had made social media posts in support of the Somali group al-Shabaab
... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
. An affidavit from an agent says Sherlocks spotted al-Shabaab and Islamic State group propaganda videos on his TikTok and Facebook accounts. It also alleges that he exchanged messages with a Facebook account that encourages Somali-speaking individuals to travel and fight on behalf of the Islamic State group.

FBI agents were watching when Hassan went to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Dec. 13, authorities say. He allegedly tried to check in for a flight to Somalia but left after an airline employee told him he lacked required travel documents.

He allegedly tried again Dec. 29. Agents saw him board a flight to reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
, where Customs and Border Protection officers interviewed him extensively before his scheduled flight to Æthiopia but did not detain him. He missed the flight and returned to Minneapolis, the affidavit says.

Hassan is the latest of several Minnesotans suspected of leaving or trying to leave the U.S. to join the Islamic State group in recent years, along with thousands of fighters from other countries. In 2016 nine Minnesota men were sentenced on federal charges of conspiring to join the group, and a Minnesotan who actually fought for the group in Iraq was sentenced last June to 10 years in prison.
Yahoo has a photo of the miscreant here.
Mr. Hassan, an ethnic Somali, was born in Kenya to parents from Somalia. He lived in Amarillo, Texas, and moved to Minneapolis in 2023, according to an affidavit from FBI agent Scott Zimmerman, though the document does not say when Mr. Hassan and his family moved to the United States.

Weekly pro-hostage deal and anti-government rallies drew ‘thousands’ of Israelis Saturday night
[IsraelTimes] Weekly pro-hostage deal and anti-government rallies drew thousands of Israelis Saturday night, as the 42nd and final day of the Gaza ceasefire deal’s first phase came to a close.
Notice there isn’t even a hint of a crowd estimate. Interestingly, the photos at the link are carefully cropped to give no hint as well.

the families of Shlomo Mantzur and Itzik Elgarat — two of four slain captives returned to Israel early Thursday in the final hostage release of the first phase — announced their loved ones would be buried in closed ceremonies on Sunday and Monday, respectively. According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, Mantzur was murdered on October 7, 2023, while the other three were murdered in captivity.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum said that "following the return, to eternal rest, of Ohad Yahalomi, Itzik Elgarat, Shlomo Mantzur and Tsahi Idan... we will hold a central rally at Hostages Square to demand the return of all 59 captives until day 50 of the agreement," a week from Sunday on March 9.

"The window of opportunity is now," said the forum. "If a deal does not materialize in the coming days, we’ll be sentencing the hostages to death and lose the ability to locate and retrieve the slain captives."

The rally at Hostages Square included a video message from Sasha Troufanov, who was released from captivity in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
on February 15. Troufanov told that he "can’t process the fact that I’m here and there are still people who haven’t returned."

"Captivity is an insane mind game — you’re always faced with the thought that ’if I don’t get out in this deal, there probably won’t be another deal I’ll get out in,’" said Troufanov.

Referring to ubiquitous posters featuring photographs of hostages, Troufanov said, "The fact that they’re here next to me, but they’re not — they’re just pictures — is something that is difficult for me, and I’m sure it’s more difficult for their families."

Now that he’s on the side of those yearning for their loved ones’ release, "Suddenly, I understand what it’s like, and it’s overwhelming for me," he said.

"Isn’t it time to release the people there?" he asked. "The people who pray so hard to come home?"

"When I talk about returning the hostages, I mean all of them — living and dead," he said. "Every family wants closure."

He asked the the public, "don’t let feelings of Dire Revenge, anger and rage get the upper hand over values of unity, fraternity and sanctity of human life.

Troufanov thanked "each and every one of the people who have supported, helped and wised for my return home — I’m here thanks to you."

The rally also featured speeches from Michel Illouz, father of 26-year-old Guy Illouz, who died in Hamas
..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
captivity after being kidnapped from the Re’im-area Nova music festival; Liron Oberlander, cousin of hostage Rom Braslavski, who worked as a guard at the rave; Roni Adar, sister of slain captive Tamir Adar, who was killed in battle against invading bandidos gunnies and snatched to Gaza; and Mor Korngold, brother of Tal Shoham, one of six living captives Hamas released last Saturday.

Also speaking was Ilan Dalal, father of Guy Gilboa Dalal, who was kidnapped at the Nova rave. The families of Dalal and fellow hostage Evyatar David received a sign of life last from their loved ones following last Saturday’s hostage release, when Hamas published a video of them watching the other captives be freed.

Ilan Dalal later told Channel 12 the video was "the best sign of life I could ask for, but on the other hand, there’s nothing more cruel."

"It’s not surprising because it’s Hamas, but it’s a new level of torture," he said.

In tandem with the demonstration at Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square, smaller rallies were held across the country, including in Jerusalem, Ness Ziona, Haifa, Hadera and other locales such as the Sha’ar Hanegev Junction in the south.

In Tel Aviv, a separate, anti-government rally was held on Begin Road, in front of the IDF headquarters, where hundreds of protesters marched to from a demonstration at Habima Square.. The rally usually draws around 1,000 people, including several hostage families and opposition politicians, and regularly features philippics by Einav Zangauker, mother of hostage Matan Zangauker, who on Saturday denounced the "sadistic government."

On Friday, The New York Times

...which still proudly claims Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

published a wide-ranging profile piece on Zanguaker, referring to the "anguished mother" from Sderot as "Netanyahu’s fiercest foe" and "an unlikely enemy of Israeli government."

Another harsh critic of Netanyahu who has regularly spoken at the Begin Road rallies at Dani Elgarat, the younger brother of slain hostage Itzik Elgarat. Following the return of Itzik’s body, Dani Elgarat called for a public revolt against the government.

Speaking at Saturday’s demonstration, Dani Elgarat accused Netanyahu of abandoning his older brother.

Affiliated anti-government groups have said they would commence a days-long civil disobedience campaign in Jerusalem on Sunday to demand Israel "rise to phase two" of the hostage deal.

The deal’s first phase saw Hamas release 33 women, children, civilian men over 50, and those deemed "humanitarian cases" in return for some 1,900 Paleostinian prisoners. Twenty-five of the hostages were freed alive, and eight were deceased. Hamas also released five Thai nationals not included in the deal.

Netanyahu’s right-wing flank has threatened to topple the government should Israel proceed to the second phase, which would see Hamas release remaining living hostages and require Israel to withdraw from Gaza.

Talks for the second phase began in Cairo on Thursday, after Netanyahu refused to begin them on February 3 — day 16 of the first phase — as stipulated by the agreement. On Saturday, talks appeared at an impasse, with the Israeli negotiators having gone home and Hamas saying it rejected an Israeli offer to extend the first phase rather than proceed to the second.

Romi Gonen, who returned in the first hostage release of the current phase, wrote on Instagram Saturday that it was the "the first Shabbat since I came back that none of our brothers and sisters returned."

"There’s a tightness in my throat," she wrote. "Fifty-nine hostages are still held captive and waiting to return home."

"I was there, I know — they have no time," said Gonen, adding that the deal and releases "must not stop."

"It’s sad that even after hostages have come out and the entire world saw their state, we still need to fight for the obvious. Continue to fight, continue to pray — in the end, good always wins."

The families forum announced on Saturday that Shlomo Mantzur, 86, would be laid to rest Sunday in his home community of Kibbutz Kissufim.

According to the announcement, the family invited Israelis to stand along the road with flags to accompany Mantzur. The funeral procession will depart from Rishon Lezion at 9:45 a.m. and head south to Kissufim, according to the statement.

The procession is slated to pass at Yad Mordechai Junction around 10:45 a.m., at Sa’ad Junction at 11 a.m., and Gama Junction and Kissufim Junction around 11:15 a.m. The funeral will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Kibbutz Kissufim.

"The public is invited to the eulogy ceremony and the procession to the cemetery," the statement said. "At the family’s request, the funeral will be closed to the media."

The family of Itzik Elgarat, 68 when kidnapped, said his funeral would be held Monday at 2 p.m. outside his home in Kibbutz Nir Oz, from which he was kidnapped on Oct. 7, 2023..

The service will be open to the public and media, but the burial will be private, according to the announcement.

Elgarat and Mantzur were each snatched from their homes on October 7, 2023, when thousands of Hamas-led bandidos gunnies stormed southern Israel to kill some 1,200 people and take 251 hostages, sparking the war in Gaza.

Terror groups in the Gaza Strip are holding 59 hostages, including 58 of the 251 kidnapped by Hamas-led bandidos gunnies on October 7, 2023. They include the bodies of at least 35 confirmed dead by the IDF.

US kills senior Hurras al-Din leader in northwest Syria
[Rudaw] The United States military said on Saturday it killed a big shot of the al-Qaeda affiliate Hurras al-Din (HaD) in a precision Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
in northwest Syria.

"On Feb. 23, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted a precision airstrike in Northwest Syria, targeting and killing Muhammed Yusuf Ziya Talay, the senior military leader of the terrorist organization Hurras al-Din (HaD), an al-Qaeda affiliate," read a statement from CENTCOM.

"The airstrike is part of CENTCOM's ongoing commitment, along with partners in the region, to disrupt and degrade efforts by faceless myrmidons to plan, organize, and conduct attacks against civilians and military personnel from the U.S., our allies, and our partners throughout the region and beyond," it added.

Hurras al-Din, or Guardians of Religion, broke away from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

’s regime and established a transitional government. The two groups have vied for influence and territory though efforts have been made to reconcile their differences.

"As we have said in the past, we will continue to relentlessly pursue these faceless myrmidons in order to defend our homeland, and U.S., allied, and partner personnel in the region," said CENTCOM commander General Michael Erik Kurilla.

This is the second US airstrike against Hurras al-Din in recent weeks. On February 21, CENTCOM forces killed Wasim Tahsin Bayraqdar, a big shotship member of the group
Since Hurras al-Din announced in late January that it was dissolving itself, US airstrikes have killed several of the group’s leaders, according to CENTCOM. After a rebel alliance led by radical Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham toppled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and took power in Damascus on December 8, Hurras al-Din said it no longer needed to exist.

Israel threatens Syria with attack over Druze village attack
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] TsAGAL has orders from the Israeli government to be ready to attack Syrian rebel forces amid attacks on a friendly village near Damascus.

Israel is ready to defend a Druze village in Syria. In particular, the Israeli army (TsAGAL) has received an order to increase combat readiness, The Jerusalem Post reports.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz on Saturday evening, March 1, ordered the military to prepare to defend a friendly village in Syria that is currently under attack by Syrian forces.

The village of Jaramana, on the outskirts of Damascus, was attacked by Syrian rebel forces.

"We will not allow the terrorist regime of radical Islam in Syria to harm its friends... If the regime harms its friends, it will suffer from us," they said in a joint statement.

The Friends are a religious and ethnic group living primarily in Lebanon, Syria, Israel and Jordan. They profess a religious doctrine that combines elements of Islam, Gnosticism, Neoplatonism and other philosophical movements.

Their religion separated from Ismailism and became closed. Today it is known that the friends do not accept new followers, but they themselves cannot convert to other faiths.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump lifted a ban on sending 2,000-pound bombs to Israel. The Biden administration suspended the bombs over concerns about casualties in Gaza.
The Times of Israel adds:
According to reports from Syria, authorities from the new Syrian government have been clashing with local Druze button men during a security campaign in Jaramana. At least one Syrian officer was killed, while another was captured and later released, the reports said.

The Israeli statement followed the outbreak of unrest Friday in the Druze settlement of Jaramana, when a member of the security forces entered and started shooting in the air, leading to an exchange of fire with local button men that left him dead.
Apparently, that was unwise
On Saturday, button men came from the Damascus suburb of Mleiha to Jaramana, where they clashed with Druze button men. That left one Druze fighter dead and nine other people maimed, according to the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor.

regime in Syria fell in December, the IDF moved to capture a buffer zone between the countries on the Syrian side of the border.

The IDF described its presence in southern Syria’s buffer zone as a temporary and defensive measure, though Katz has said that troops will remain deployed to nine army posts in the area "indefinitely."

On Monday, Netanyahu said troops would stay on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon and the buffer zone in the Golan Heights for "an unlimited period of time."

"We demand full demilitarization of southern Syria from troops of the new Syrian regime in the Quneitra, Daraa and Suweyda provinces," Netanyahu said, adding that Israel will not accept any threats to Druze in southern Syria.

Last week, it was reported that Israel had begun staff work on a pilot program that would allow Syrian Druze to work in Israeli towns on the Golan Heights.

The program was initiated by Golan Druze, who asked Israeli security officials and the military to assist their Druze brethren over the border, according to the Kan public broadcaster. The plan was being drawn up by Maj. Gen. Ghassan Alian, who heads the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories and is Druze himself.

The initial stage would see dozens of Syrian Druze working in construction and agriculture in Golan Druze towns, according to the report.

Israel conquered most of the Golan Heights from Syria during the 1967 Six-Day War, ahead of which several Arab armies had planned an invasion of Israel. Jerusalem annexed the area in 1981, in a move only recognized by the United States. The UN-patrolled buffer zone was intended to keep Israeli and Syrian forces apart.

Forces loyal to Assad’s government had abandoned their positions in southern Syria before rebel groups even reached Damascus, leading Netanyahu to say there was a "vacuum on Israel’s border."

considers Israel’s takeover of the buffer zone a violation of the 1974 disengagement accord. Israel says the accord had fallen apart since one of the sides was no longer in a position to implement it.
