-Lurid Crime Tales-
Man Who Was Planning to Kill Trump's New Treasury Secretary Arrested
[TOWNHALL] Capitol police have arrested a Massachusetts man who allegedly traveled to Washington, D.C. armed with Molotov cocktails and a knife to kill newly-confirmed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Ryan Michael "Reily" English turned himself in to law enforcement on Monday morning and admitted his plans to commit murder, according to CNBC.

Ryan Michael "Reily" English, who turned himself in to U.S. Capitol Police at 3:12 p.m. ET Monday, said he traveled to Washington, D.C., initially planning to kill Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., a police affidavit revealed.

But English shifted his target to Bessent after stopping at a library in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and reading that the Senate was voting Monday on his nomination as President Donald Trump
...So far he's been unkillable, and they've tried....
’s Treasury chief, the document says.

English allegedly planned to murder Bessent by tossing the Molotov cocktail at his feet, the affidavit said. He also wanted to stab the treasury secretary if he was able to get close enough to him.

Illegal migrant busted on Long Island for trying to lure 11-year-old girl into his car with candy
[NYPOST] An illegal migrant allegedly tried to lure an 11-year-old girl into his car by offering her candy on Long Island, prosecutors alleged Tuesday.

Galo Macasfreire, 38, of Ecuador, was arraigned in Suffolk County District Court on a charge of felony attempted kidnapping.

He was busted Monday after police said Macasfreire, a Wyandanch resident, rolled up alongside the maiden of tender years in his 2007 gray Chevrolet and badgered her to get in.

The child, who had just gotten off her school bus, refused — so the creep allegedly offered her candy, Suffolk County cops said.
Terrible timing. If only he had been caught on the 19th, he’d have got away with it.

Smugglers transporting vans packed with 26 Chinese migrants detained in Florida: police
[FoxNews] The incident in Coral Gables comes days after a similar incident there saw a group of over 30 migrants in vans stopped

Police in Florida say that two vans packed with 26 Chinese migrants were stopped on Tuesday morning while two alleged smugglers were detained, Fox News Digital has learned.

The incident took place in Coral Gables, a city near Miami, and comes more than a week after a group of more than 30 migrants in vans were also apprehended there.

In today’s incident, Coral Gables Police Department Detective Khaled Tahah said that an alert citizen contacted police at around 8 a.m. regarding possible Chinese migrants being transported in passenger vans.

"Our units responded to the area and were able to locate both vans. Traffic stops were conducted on each van and it resulted in a total of 26 people who appear to be Chinese migrants."

Taha said that the occupants of the vans are a mix of both males and females. The two alleged smugglers are males.

One of the vans was stopped at 11600 Old Cutler Road, while the other was stopped at the 8800 block of Old Cutler Road at Kendall, he said.

Several people could be seen sitting on the side of the road as police conducted the stop, WSVN reports. They were later loaded onto county trolleys and transported to an undisclosed location, per the outlet.

Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Customs and Border Patrol responded to the scene and have taken over the investigation, Tahah said.

Fox News Digital reached out to both agencies for further information but did not immediately receive a response.

Tuesday’s incident comes more than a week after a group of more than 30 migrants, most of them Chinese citizens, were found inside a Toyota and U-Haul truck also in Coral Gables after a report of an alleged abduction.

That incident took place on Jan. 17, after a security guard for a homeowners association reported seeing an abduction around 9:35 a.m., Coral Gables Police Chief Edward James Hudak Jr. told reporters.

The vehicles were stopped by officers, and the woman who was allegedly abducted was taken from the Toyota. Officers then began investigating the U-Haul truck, which had 16 Chinese females, 15 Chinese males, one male from Cuba and a female from Ecuador, according to police.

Congo provincial military governor dies in rebel offensive

DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
's North Kivu province has died from gunshot wounds suffered on the front line during an offensive by M23 rebels, the army said on Friday.

The rebels are advancing on two fronts near the quiet provincial capital Goma in the nation's turbulent east, where tens of thousands are fleeing and the UN is warning that the violence could spill into a wider regional war.
Not so quiet
The UN Security Council will meet on Monday to discuss the situation, diplomats said.

Major General Peter Cirimwami Nkuba, who led the province since 2023, has died, army front man Sylvain Ekenge said at a press briefing. An internal UN report seen by Rooters said he was injured while supervising troops 20km from Goma.

Ekenge said Nkuba was maimed "on the field" and evacuated to the capital Kinshasa, where he departed this vale of tears. He did not provide any further details on the circumstances.

Fighting has flared more fiercely in Congo's mineral-rich east since the start of the year as the Tutsi-led M23 group seized control of more territory than ever before.

At least 22 soldiers have been killed and several maimed in Nigeria's northeast after Death Eaters deployed improvised bombs and suicide bombers to ward off attacks by the military, army spokesperson Edward Buba said.

The Nigerian military said late on Sunday that it had launched an assault 10 days ago against Death Eaters in the northeast and killed over 70 holy warriors including three commanders.

Buba said government forces also shot down drones used by the holy warriors.

West Africa Province (ISWAP) holy warriors have mainly operated in Borno state, targeting security forces and civilians in an insurgency that has killed and displaced tens of thousands of people.

On Friday suspected Islamist Death Eaters killed at least 20 Nigerian soldiers, including a commanding officer, in an attack on an army base in a remote Borno town, according to security sources and local residents.

An Islamist insurgency has plagued the northeast of Africa's most populous country for 16 years, while kidnapping and banditry are rampant in the northwest and gang and separatist violence is common in the southeast.

Girl Beaten Up By Schoolgirl Gang At School In Sande, Lower Saxony For Snitching On ISIS Sympathizers
The link is to the article in German. Link to translation.
Summary:

There's a violent gang of girls at the HS of Sande, Germany.
According to other sources they're girls from Afghanistan, Syria and Lebanon.
They're accused of insults, shoving, lying in wait at the bus stop, setting toilet paper on fire - the list is long and the acts are shown again and again in the class chat on WhatsApp. The girls are even said to have posted videos glorifying violence of beheadings by suspected IS fighters in the class chat.

A mother filed a criminal complaint against the gang in November. Her daughter testified against them regarding threats against a teacher on the chat.

On January 23rd the gang of about 15 encircled the girl and a friend.

She was beaten up and repeatedly kicked while lying on the ground, resulting in brain haemorrhages, severe lung damage and numerous bruises. The young girl is currently still in hospital.

The friend sustained lighter injuries.

According to the girl's father the school did not intervene. Half an hour after the beating the injured girl called her father who in turn called an ambulance.

The school denies this and claims to have called an ambulance and the police.

Some of the perps were suspended for a couple of days. No further action was taken by the school.
Of course. To do so would be racist, not to mention unkind to those who lack the advantages of the native Germans.

#5  A matter for both, really. When I was at school, fights could happen (but they stayed away from me, for good reason). Yugoslavs and Italians were usually the bad guys in my day. Ganging up on one person was frowned upon, and brutality like the one described would have been an absolute no-no. Kicking when you're lying down just didn't happen.

In my day, all perpetrators would have been expelled immediately and there would of course have been legal consequences. If teachers stood by and did nothing, they must be prosecuted as well.

Russian suspected of raising funds for ISIS detained in Berlin
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] German law enforcement agencies have detained a Russian citizen suspected of collecting funds for the terrorist group ISIS. This was reported on January 28 by the Prosecutor General of Germany.

“The Prosecutor General’s Office today ordered the detention of a Russian citizen in Berlin on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by an investigating judge of the Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Germany,” the agency said in a statement.

In addition to financing ISIS, the man is suspected of membership in a criminal organization and violating German laws on foreign economic activity.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, in July, two Russian citizens were detained in Germany on suspicion of collecting money for ISIS. The arrest was accompanied by searches at sites in Berlin, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Saxony. According to the German investigation, in early summer 2022, these individuals joined a terrorist organization, where they were engaged in collecting funds in Germany and other European countries.

In June 2024, a man suspected of having ties to ISIS was detained at Cologne-Bonn Airport in Germany. It was established that the detainee has triple citizenship: Germany, Morocco, and Poland. According to the investigation, in September 2023, the man transferred almost $1,700 through a cryptocurrency exchange to the account of another terrorist group associated with ISIS.

Update from comments, below, for future searchability: the miscreant is Zelimkhan D., 35, from Chechnya. His three henchman, arrested last summer, are also Chechen.

The Russian national Zelimkhan D. was part of a financing network for the terrorist militia. He is said to have organized donation collections mainly in the Berlin area and managed one of the joint donation funds. He had participated in several transactions in favor of the IS in the amount of a total of more than 60,000 euros, according to the investigators.

The group collected donations mainly through social media and forwarded them partly through middlemen to IS members abroad. "The money mainly benefited IS female members in Kurdish detention camps and IS fighters," according to the Federal Prosecutor's Office.

Already on the 25th. In July, two alleged members of the financing work had been arrested in the district of the Herzogtum Lauenburg (Schleswig-Holstein) and in Hamburg. At the same time, seven objects in Berlin, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Saxony were searched on that day on behalf of the Federal Prosecutor's Office. On 1. In August, another suspect was arrested in Berlin. All three are also said to come from Chechnya. They are in pre-trial detention.

ICE descends on San Diego border crossing for 'biggest illegal immigrant grab in recent history'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Thousands of ICE officers have been dispatched to the San Diego border crossing as they prepare to take '100,000 immigrants' back to Mexico and Central America in one of the biggest migrant raids in recent times.

Marines have already descended on the area in an attempt to secure the crossing as President Trump ramped up his promise of cracking down on illegal immigration.

Around 1,500 active duty troops were deployed to the nearly 2,000-mile border this week, including 500 Marines from Camp Pendleton in California.

DailyMail.com can now reveal that they have been joined with what has been described as a 'mile long line of DHS trucks and CBP'. A White House intelligence source said: 'There is a 'mile long line of DHS trucks and CBP in front of Camp Pendleton right now, ready to do the biggest illegal immigrant grab in recent history.

'The West Coast is this week and the East Coast is next week. It is about to get crazy in California. They need to fill 100,000 spots', meaning arrests is the directive.

The source continued: 'They are going to be taking 100,000 immigrants back to Mexico, Columbia, El Salvador and Guatemala in this grab.'

The Pentagon expects additional troops to be ordered to deploy in the next few days as defense and homeland security leaders iron out requests for more support.

It was also announced on Tuesday that the military would allow ICE to use Buckley Space Force Base in Colorado to detain migrants. The U.S. military's Northern Command said in a statement it started providing facilities at Buckley to ICE starting on Monday. Buckley Space Force Base is located in the city of Aurora, a Denver suburb, which figured prominently during Trump's presidential campaign last year.

Trump said that apartment complexes in Aurora had been taken over by members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which was refuted by city officials. During a campaign event there in October, Trump pledged to launch an Operation Aurora targeting gang members

Immigration arrests have reached about 1,000-1,200 per day in recent days, according to ICE, far above the daily average of 311 in fiscal year 2024.

ICE officers have already begun storming properties across the country in sanctuary cities like New York. Sanctuary cities including the Big Apple have become a haven for migrants who flock to them in the knowledge that officials there limit cooperation with federal immigration agents.

The president has since said he 'might have to consider' pulling funding to sanctuary cities, which include the likes of Chicago, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.

Trump, who ran on a mass deportation platform, has made immigration his first order of business since assuming office.

ICE agents have arrested more than 3,500 people since the inauguration last Monday, Axios reports.

Almost 5,000 Homeland Security and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers have been deployed by the Trump administration to carry out raids.

The raids have sparked fear in migrant communities, especially since Trump signed an executive order which will now permit raids in the likes of schools and churches. Many migrants are said to be in hiding, turning usually crowded factories, warehouses and grocery stores into ghost towns. Frightened undocumented migrants began hunkering down after Trump took office for the second time last week, with dozens failing to turn up to work.

Trump ordered each of ICE's field offices to make 75 arrests per day and managers would be held accountable for missing those targets.

ICE insiders told the Washington Post they are concerned that the quotas make it more likely that agents will 'engage in more indiscriminate enforcement tactics or face accusations of civil rights violations.'

However, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt reportedly told the outlet, 'your story is false,' but did not elaborate.

The operations are being overseen by Trump's hardline border Czar Tom Homan.

He justified relaxing rules governing enforcement actions at 'sensitive' locations such as schools, churches and workplaces, saying it sends a clear message to illegal immigrants.

'There are consequences of entering the country illegally. If we don't show there are consequences, you're never going to fix the border problem,' Homan, who was on the ground in Chicago this weekend to oversee the bolstered ICE plans, told ABC News.

However, the move was criticized by Catholic Charities USA which called for 'dignity' in dealing with the border crisis.
Grifters and Illegals hardest hit
'We recognize the need for just immigration enforcement and affirm the government’s obligation to carry it out in a targeted, proportional, and humane way,' the organization wrote.

'However, non-emergency immigration enforcement in schools, places of worship, social service agencies, healthcare facilities, or other sensitive settings where people receive essential services would be contrary to the common good.

'All people have a right to fulfill their duty to God without fear.'

#5  The full weight of the tragic recriminations about lives disrupted/uprooted and the impacts on the community for the arrest and deportation of illegal aliens rests entirely with those demokrat government officials, community leaders and NGOs who let them in because they just assumed, arrogantly, that they are above the law when they feel rightious about something!

It was ruthlessly unkind to the illegals to just presume that they could circumvent existing law because they didn't like it, all the while lecturing the rest of us that "no one is above the law" while selectively using it to punish those with who they disagree.

Those smug hypocrites are the actual authors of all the suffering among the victims they created by allowing illegal entry in the first place.

Homeland Security busts 5 'career criminals' on first day of NYC raids
[NYPOST] Five "career criminals" with a laundry list of alarming offenses were nabbed on the first day the Trump administration’s national crackdown on illegal immigrants colonists reached New York City, The Post has learned.

In Queens, a Mexican national with a previous arrest for attempted murder was bagged, while a Mexican previously charged with three counts of rape and sexual assault was captured in the Bronx, according to law enforcement sources.

And in upper Manhattan, a Dominican national wanted for a double murder in their home country was also taken into custody.

Those were just a few of the suspects arrested by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEI) Monday, while officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal agencies partook in the raids and arrested more.

The raids began in the Big Apple before daybreak Tuesday, beginning in the Bronx and reaching all five boroughs by the time they ended.

Trump’s Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem even joined, riding in an armored car while agents knocked down apartment doors and hauled suspects off in shackles and cuffs.

Noem said one of their first arrests was "a criminal alien with kidnapping, assault and burglary charges."

Another was 20-year-old Niefred Serpa-Acosta — a member of the violent mostly peaceful Venezuela

...a country in Central America that sits on an enormous pool of oil. Formerly the most prospereous country in the region, it became infested with Commies sniffing almost unlimited wealth. It turned out the wealth wasn't unlimited, the economy collapsed under the clownish Hugo Chavez, the murder rate exceeded places like Honduras and El Salvador. A significant proportion of the populace refugeed to Colombia and points south...

n Tren de Aragua gang suspected of partaking in an armed break-in of an apartment building in Aurora, Colo., that became an emblematic image of the border crisis.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Over 376,000 Palestinians return to northern Gaza, or possibly only 10s of thousands
[GEO.TV] More than 376,000 Paleostinians displaced by the war between Israel and Hamas
..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
have returned to northern Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, the UN's humanitarian body OCHA said Tuesday.

"Over 376,000 people are estimated to have returned to their places of origin in northern Gaza, following the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the two main roads along the Netzarim corridor" that leads into the north, OCHA said in a humanitarian update.
All the unnecessary screaming about ethnic cleansing and genocide…

The IDF says it operated against several threats in the Gaza Strip today.
[IsraelTimes] In central Gaza, a drone strike was carried out as a warning after a vehicle attempted to travel to north Gaza via an area that is prohibited for vehicular traffic per the agreement, and as such would not have undergone inspection, the military says.

In southern Gaza, the IDF says troops fired warning shots after suspects were approaching forces “and posed a threat.” After the suspects continued to near the troops, theywere directly targeted.

In other areas of Gaza, warning shots were fired at suspects who “posed a threat” to troops, the army adds.

IDF assesses tens of thousands of Gazans have returned to north, far below Hamas claim of ‘over 300,000’
[IsraelTimes] The Israeli military assesses that only tens of thousands of Palestinians have returned to the northern Gaza Strip since troops withdrew from most of the Netzarim Corridor yesterday morning and authorized the opening of south-north roads.

Hamas claimed yesterday that “over 300,000 displaced” returned to the Strip’s north.

The Times of Israel has learned that according to the IDF’s assessments as of this morning, that number is far lower, estimated in the tens of thousands.

Since yesterday morning, as part of a ceasefire deal with Hamas, Gazans have been able to freely return to northern Gaza after being prevented by the IDF from doing so since the beginning of the war — when civilians were called to head for the Strip’s south to avoid combat zones.

Many of the buildings in northern Gaza have been destroyed amid the fighting, and it is unclear where civilians are supposed to reside. In southern Gaza, tent camps were constructed for displaced civilians.

Israel outlaws, shuts offices of Arab reconciliation body led by radical cleric
[IsraelTimes] Security forces briefly arrest Sheikh Raed Salah, accuse him of using committees that mediate disputes between families as cover to continue his Islamist political activities

Security forces shuttered the offices of reconciliation committees in the Arab city of Umm al-Fahm on Tuesday, citing the body’s Islamist ties.

Police and Shin Bet raided the committees’ offices and arrested their head, Sheikh Raed Salah,
... alternately Raed Saleh, he fancies the title "Sheikh of Al Aqsa" as suitable for the head of the outlawed Northern Branch of the Islamic Movement, the militant arm of the Israeli branch of the Muslim Brotherhood based in Umm al-Fahm in the Galilee. The Southern Branch went in for Israeli politics as part of the Obama-era Arab Joint List project, though their goals are the same. Sheikh Saleh’s role is to cycle in and out of Israeli prisons for cause...
but released him later in the day.

The "peace spreading" committees were an initiative of the High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel, a leading umbrella organization among Israel’s Arab minority. Established by Salah in 2017, the committees operate with the stated goal of curbing violence in Arab society by mediating between feuding families.
Given that the violence has been increasing, either they’re really bad at it or they’re aiding and abetting for reasons of their own.
The raid came in the wake of a decision by Defense Minister Israel Katz to outlaw the reconciliation program, citing its links to the Northern Branch of the Islamic Movement, which Salah heads.

Israel declared the Northern Branch illegal in 2015 over repeated incitement to terrorism.

Two years later, police arrested Salah for sermons he gave lauding bandidos bully boyz from Umm al-Fahm who killed two coppers on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, and in 2020 he was convicted of incitement to terror.

After being released from prison in 2021, Salah expanded the program’s reach to other towns, amid surging violence in Arab communities.

Over the past two years, the number of Arab murder victims reached nearly double that of 2021, jumping from 126 in 2021, to 244 in 2023. This past year, the number stood at 230, according to data from the Abraham Initiatives group.

The program established a uniform set of guidelines for local reconciliation committees in resolving disputes between families, which often lead to violence.

Police alleged that the network acts as a cover for Saleh to continue his Islamist political activities, which are "in step with the worldview of the Moslem Brüderbund and disseminate the Northern Branch of the Islamic Movement’s anti-Israel agenda."

Ra’am party chairman Mansour Abbas
...political head of the political arm of the Southern Branch of the Islamic Movement, the Muslim Brotherhood in Israel, now known as the Ra’am OPrty. Like Muslim Brotherhood parties elsewhere, they will ride the train down the iron rails of democratic politics and charity until the train reaches their station at the formation of the Caliphate, avoiding as much as possible all that messy bloodshed until afterward. It’s also important to check his public statements against what he says in private in Arabic, just in case taqqiya is involved...
criticized law enforcement’s move as inappropriate, asserting the reconciliation committees do not belong to any particular ideology or political movement while warning the ban could harm efforts to curb violent mostly peaceful crime.

"I would expect the Defense Ministry, minister of national security and attorney general to use their power against the criminal organizations dominating Arab citizens, and to take a tough stance against criminal organizations, rather than reconciliation committees," he told the Haaretz daily.

SDF says dismantled ISIS cell in Qamishli
[Rudaw] The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Sunday arrested two suspected Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) members in a security operation in northeast Syria’s Qamishli city.

"Following extensive investigations, intelligence gathering, and surveillance, our forces identified the cell’s hideout and successfully raided the location, dismantling the terrorist cell and capturing two terrorists, Osama Muhammad al-Ahmad and Issa Muhammad al-Ahmad," the SDF said in a statement.

It accused the alleged ISIS members of plotting to carry out explosions in Qamishli "to spread terror and sow chaos among the civilian population."

The SDF and its international allies have fought to prevent an ISIS resurgence since the group attempted to take advantage of the Islamist-led rebel takeover of Damascus and the fall of the former Syrian regime last month.

On Friday, the SDF said that they arrested two ISIS leaders in eastern Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province.

On Tuesday, the SDF revealed they had arrested more than 270 ISIS members in 2024.

The SDF announced on Tuesday that it carried out nearly 100 operations against ISIS in 2024, resulting in the capture of 270 suspected members, including high-ranking leaders.

Israeli airstrikes wound 24 in Lebanon despite ceasefire
[GEO.TV] Israeli strikes maimed 24 people in south Leb
...The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
Tuesday despite a ceasefire in force for more than six weeks, the Lebanese health ministry said.

The first strike hit the southern town of Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa, wounding 20 people, the ministry said, updating a previous toll of 14 injured.

It added that another strike on the neighbouring town of Zawtar maimed four people.

At around 7:30 pm, an Israeli drone carried out "a strike with a guided missile targeting a small vegetable truck" in Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The town lies north of the Litani River but only around 10 kilometres (seven miles) from the Israeli border.

The view from Israel:
IDF says it struck Hezbollah arms convoy in Lebanon

[israelTimes] Lebanon PM condemns strike, also says Israel freed 9 Lebanese POWs and calls for release of 9 more; IDF again warns displaced southern Lebanese against returning after deadly riots

The IDF said it targeted a truck and other Hezbollah vehicles used to transfer weapons on Tuesday in southern Leb

in violation of the ceasefire agreement. Lebanon’s health ministry reported fourteen people maimed in the Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
"The truck and vehicles were struck after being monitored by the IDF while transferring the weapons," the military added.

The strike came as the IDF again warned Lebanese civilians against returning to villages in southern Lebanon, where Israel has said it would remain until February 18. Israel had been due to withdraw by January 26, but said it could not do so as the Lebanese army had not yet deployed in those areas.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said that at around 7:30 p.m., "a strike with a guided missile targeting a small vegetable truck" in Nabatieh al-Fawqa, which lies north of the Litani River but just 10 kilometers (seven miles) from the Israeli border.

Under the deal, Hezbollah must pullback north of the Litani — some 30 kilometers (18 miles) from Israel — while Israel is entitled to strike threats it considers imminent, and forward less imminent threats to a monitoring committee comprising representatives of Lebanon, Israel, La Belle France, the United States and UNIFIL.

Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati assailed the strike on Nabatieh al-Fawqa. During a phone call with US General Jasper Jeffers, who chairs the monitoring committee, Mikati urged a firm stance to guarantee Israel implements its commitments, according to a statement from the premier’s office.

Mikati also said Tuesday that Israel had freed nine Lebanese prisoners of war, whose identities and affiliations were unclear, under the terms of the six-week-old ceasefire deal. He called on Israel to free nine more prisoners, and thanked the Red Thingy, which welcomed the release. Israel has yet to comment on the statement.

Mikati had already appealed to the United States on Sunday to use its influence with Israel to secure the release of Lebanese detained by Israel during the war.

A source close to Hezbollah told AFP on Monday that seven of the terror group’s operatives had been captured in the fighting.

IDF troops also detained some Lebanese on Sunday — Israel’s original deadline for withdrawal — amid deadly protests as displaced residents tried to return to southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s health ministry has said 24 people were killed and over 130 maimed by IDF gunfire in demonstrations on Sunday, and another two were killed and 17 maimed in demonstrations again on Monday.

The military has issued warnings to the displaced residents not to return, and accused Hezbollah of "provocations" in the protests, where returning residents were seen hoisting the Iran-backed terror group’s insignia. In an interview Monday, a leading Christian Lebanese politician accused Hezbollah of sending displaced residents to a "certain death" by pushing them to return.

On Tuesday, Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language front man, again cautioned displaced southern Lebanese to stay away as Israeli troops in the area work to "enable the effective deployment of the Lebanese army, and dismantle and remove the Hezbollah terror group."

"I remind you that the agreement period has been extended and IDF forces are still deployed on the ground. The deployment process is taking place gradually and in some sectors, it is being postponed and requires more time to ensure that Hezbollah cannot re-establish its strength there," he said.

"Hezbollah, as usual, puts its narrow interests above the interests of the Lebanese state and tries through its mouthpieces to heat up the situation, despite being the main reason for the destruction of the south," he added.

The IDF front man said that "until further notice, all previously published instructions remain in effect," and the military will update when it is safe to return to the border villages.

The United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
High Commissioner for Refugees reported in December, days after the ceasefire began, that some 1.3 million Lebanese had been displaced in the Israel-Hezbollah war.

Hezbollah’s near-daily attacks on Israeli border towns forced the displacement of some 60,000 northern Israelis.
