Algeria targets #ManichRadi activists as Tebboune faces unrest
[NEWARAB] The Algerian government has launched a crackdown on activists and social media users participating in the growing #ManichRadi ('I'm dissatisfied') movement against President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

According to Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, dozens of individuals have been arrested over the past two days for sharing content related to the hashtag. Human rights group Chouaa claimed many activists were arrested publicly.

The campaign, which gained traction on social media, particularly among Algeria's youth, has become a symbol of widespread frustration with the government's handling of poverty, unemployment, and corruption. The hashtag has become a focal point for dissent against the government, with users rallying for meaningful reform and accountability.

In response, Tebboune's government has tried to counter this rising discontent by promoting its social media campaign, #AnaM aBladi ('I Am With My Country').

This initiative was presented as a patriotic call, attempting to galvanize Algerians in support of the state. However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
it has failed to gain significant traction among the population, as many perceive it as a top-down, government-sponsored attempt to stifle dissent rather than address the underlying issues plaguing the nation.

Responding to activists, President Tebboune condemned the online rally accusing users of harming Algeria through hashtags.

During a speech on Tuesday, he said: "Whoever thinks that he can prey on Algeria with a hashtag is mistaken, as there is no Algerian in whose blood the spirit of resistance does not run. We must live up to the expectations of the youth."

UN report sounds alarm over economic collapse in Saudi-occupied areas of Yemen
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] A recent UN report has highlighted the deteriorating economic situation in the areas controlled by the government loyal to Saudi-led coalition, as well as the financial crisis facing the central bank in Aden, which has resulted in delays in paying babus government employees' salaries for more than two months, and the suspension of weekly currency auctions since late October.

The United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated in its updated report on food security in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
for November that the central bank in Aden was unable to conduct a currency auction in November due to insufficient revenue caused by the continued suspension of oil exports and a lack of external financial support from the coalition countries.

The report, published by the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS), and shared by OCHA on its official website, indicated that ''the last auction held by the central bank in Aden was on October 28, during which $30 million was offered, suggesting that the bank might deplete its foreign currency reserves, especially with no Saudi deposit available, forcing traders to use alternative, unofficial channels to obtain foreign currencies, which led to further depreciation of the local currency in Aden throughout November.''
FEWS is the same USAID-funded agitprop that issued the false Gaza famine report and had to withdraw it
The report noted that the average exchange rate in the coalition-held areas in November was 2054 riyals to the US dollar, representing a 35% decline compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch cautiously raised his hat over the edge of the horse trough on the end of a stick......
the local currency in areas controlled by the Sanaa regime remained relatively stable, with the exchange rate not exceeding 540 riyals per dollar.

The report highlighted the rising cost of living in the coalition-held governorates, along with limited availability of public services, and pro-coalition government's inability to pay employee salaries for October and November 2024 due to limited revenues. This situation has led to increased tensions in many of these governorates.

It also mentioned that the governorates of Aden, restive Lahj
... a Yemeni governate located in the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. It is the stomping grounds on the southern secessionist al-Harak movement
, and Taiz witnessed protests related to salary delays, while strikes were announced in Aden and Lahj by teachers, professors, and medical and health professionals.

Additionally, concerns have grown regarding the coalition government's ability to manage its financial affairs with dwindling revenues.

These concerns were amplified after the Ministry of Finance recently issued a directive to ministries and government agencies not to engage in any new financial commitments without its approval.

The report further noted that many families in the coalition-held areas have resorted to unsustainable coping strategies in an attempt to prevent or reduce food consumption gaps and meet their basic needs, such as selling their furniture and productive assets.

Yemeni security services thwart major CIA-Mossad espionage ring
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
i security apparatus revealed that they have thwarted intelligence activities by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Israeli Mossad.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Yemeni security forces stressed that ''the enemy's intelligence seeks, through espionage activities, to hinder the Yemeni people's stance in support of Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. by targeting its military forces and leadership.''

The statement affirmed that they would spare no effort in fulfilling their responsibility to secure the internal front and protect it from attempts of penetration by their adversaries, further warning of the danger of collaborating with US and Israeli intelligence agencies, noting that the penalty for such actions could reach the death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
The Yemeni security forces called on all those involved with or who collaborated with enemy intelligence to turn themselves into judicial authorities, emphasizing their ability to track them down wherever they may be.

In this context, the security forces revealed that several collaborators and spies, recruited by Hamid Hussein Fayed Mujalli, a wanted runaway, were arrested over the past few days. According to the statement, they were assigned intelligence missions, including monitoring and identifying locations of missile forces, drones, naval forces, and other military sites.

Tracking and gathering information on experts, laboratories, platforms, and vehicles used for launching missiles and drones were also among the missions given to the collaborators, as well as monitoring locations and positions of naval forces, camps, and weapons depots belonging to the armed forces.

Moreover, the collaborators attempted to locate and gather information on the whereabouts of the leader of the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement, Sayyed
...Arabic term meaning your/his lordship. Groveling in His Exalted Presence is encouraged...
Abdul-Malik al-Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
The forces then thanked citizens for their cooperation, urging everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or movements. They noted that they would disclose and declassify some information and details to the public once their procedures are completed.
The Times of Israel adds:
The spy ring was allegedly operated by a Saudi man named Hamid Hussein Majali, who the Houthis claim has been active in Yemen since October 7, 2023, trying to recruit locals to conduct espionage activities and obstruct the Houthis as they attack Israel and international shipping lanes in support of Hamas in Gaza.
Awfully prescient, those Israelis. But then some of them are descended from Yemenite Jews, so they know their enemy well.

Gang attack at Haiti hospital reopening kills two journalists
[AFRICANEWS] Haiti's interim president, Leslie Voltaire, has condemned a deadly gang attack on the reopening of Port-au-Prince's General Hospital, where two journalists were killed and several others maimed on Christmas Eve.

''In the name of the transitional presidential council, we condemn what happened today— when members of the population, journalists, and coppers were attacked,'' Voltaire said in an address. ''We send our sympathy to the families, the Haitian National Police, and the journalist association. This act will not go unpunished.''

The attack occurred as news hounds gathered to cover the hospital's reopening after gang violence had forced its closure earlier this year. Suspected members of the Viv Ansanm gang coalition opened fire, turning the event into chaos.

The Online Media Collective identified the dear departed journalists as Markenzy Nathoux and Jimmy Jean. Videos from the scene showed two lifeless, bloodied bodies on stretchers, with one wearing a press credential.

Street gangs control roughly 85% of Port-au-Prince, crippling essential services. Despite government promises to reclaim control, violence continues to escalate, with journalists and police frequently targeted.

Haiti's authorities have pledged to investigate the attack and bring those responsible to justice.

Anti-Israel activists protest outside Manhattan cathedral on Christmas
[X]

[IsraelTimes] Anti-Israel activists protest on Christmas outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.

Footage posted by the activists shows several dozen demonstrators lining the sidewalk as worshipers leave the church.

The activists wave Paleostinian flags and hold signs saying "Jesus was Paleostinian" marked with an inverted red triangle, a Hamas

symbol.

A baby doll wrapped in a keffiyeh is placed on the sidewalk in front of the activists and a speaker addressing the crowd holds a doll covered in a red-splattered sheet.

"Today, if Jesus were born in Bethlehem, he would be born under occupation and quite possibly he would be born under the rubble," she says, according to video posted by the protesters.

The demonstrators are from Pal-Awda, an anti-Israel activist network.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is one of the city’s most recognizable Christian institutions, soaring above 5th Ave. in midtown Manhattan. It was also targeted by anti-Israel protesters on Easter.

Anti-Israel activists also claimed Jesus as a Paleostinian and protested against Christmas proceedings in the same area of the city last year.

#1  I'm sorry, Palestinian idiots. JESUS WAS JEWISH. There were no "Palestinians" then.

Also, as I've said many times before, if Israel were committing "genocide", they're doing a really lousy job of it. There would be NO aid trucks going in to Gaza, there would be block by block destruction as every building would be destroyed. There would be no warnings to "civilians" to evacuate before a bombing.

Abu Obeida: Fate of some Israeli captives is tied to occupation army's advance by hundreds of meters
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The military spokesperson for al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Obeida, stressed on Monday that the heroism of our fighters and their performance on the northern front of the Gazoo

Strip serve as an inspiring model for all the free people of the world.

In a series of social media posts, Abu Obeida underlined that the enemy conceals its true losses and the dire condition of its soldiers in the north to preserve the image of its army.

The genocide and ethnic cleansing in the northern Gaza Strip target innocent civilians to cover up the scandals and failures of the Zionist army, he added.

The fate of some enemy captives is tied to the occupation army's advance by hundreds of meters`in certain areas under attack, Abu Obeida affirmed.

Al-Qassam fighters targeted on Monday Israeli occupation forces with mortar and anti-personnel shells in northern Gaza.

Day 445 of the Israeli aggression on Gaza has seen more bloodshed, with the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) continuing their brutal assault on the besieged enclave. Across the Gaza Strip, Paleostinian civilians have paid a devastating price, with reports of deaders and the maimed from IOF strikes.

Houthi drone crashes in south as terror group said to brace for major Israeli attack
[IsraelTimes] Aircraft falls in open area near Ashkelon; Saudi news site says Houthis moving assets, troops to ‘combat readiness’ as Israeli leaders threaten increased strikes on Yemen

The Iran-backed Houthi rebel group in Yemen launched a drone at Israel on Wednesday, which the Israel Defense Forces said crashed in an open area near the southern city of Ashkelon.
Again. Very few of them actually accomplish anything except getting Israeli attention.
The Houthis quickly took responsibility for the attack, claiming to have launched two drones, one at a “vital and sensitive target” in the Tel Aviv area, and the other at Ashkelon’s industrial zone.

There were no reports of injuries or major damage in the attack as sirens sounded in Ashkelon and some Gaza border communities. There were no reports of impacts in the Tel Aviv area.

The attack came as the Houthis reportedly raised their alert level in anticipation of major Israeli retaliatory strikes after Israeli leaders ramped up threats against the terror group amid a week of near-daily ballistic missile and drone launches targeted central Israel.

The London-based, Saudi-owned Asharq al-Awsat newspaper reported that Houthi leaders have stopped attending regular meetings and are avoiding traditional means of communication out of fear that Israel will strike leadership targets.
*Snicker* Have they given up their pagers yet?
According to the report, Houthi officials understand that the intensity of Israeli strikes will increase, and have begun moving assets away from Sana’a and Hodeidah, where Israel has attacked previously.

The Saudi outlet also reported that the precautionary measure have caused a rift within the Iran-backed group’s leadership, with some senior officials feeling like they are out of the loop of decision-making for both internal and external affairs.

The report also said many Houthi officials are in favor of making concessions to “local, regional and international parties to avoid the fate of Hezbollah and the Bashar al-Assad regime.”
What on earth does that mean?
According to the report, these officials fear a major Israeli or international campaign could cripple their military and open the door for an escalation in the decade-long civil war between the Houthis and the internationally recognized government of Yemen.

The Hebrew-language Walla news site reported Wednesday that Houthi fighting units received a notification to raise their alert level to the highest degree in recent days, and have begun moving combat forces to the front lines of confrontation with the Yemeni Armed Forces.
A lovely idea.
WAITING FOR TRUMP TO TAKE OFFICE
While Israel is mulling carrying out attacks deep inside Yemen and targeting Houthi leaders as it looks to deliver an actual significant blow to the Iran-backed group, the Ynet news site reported Wednesday that there was little hope in Jerusalem that any such attack would halt the missile and drone strikes.

As such, Israeli officials have discussed plans to escalate strikes with their US counterparts, whom the report said were on board.

Yet the news site quoted unnamed sources as saying that Israel would only be able to intensify its attacks to the level needed to beat back the Houthis once US President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20.

“The Houthis will pay a heavy price, there will be a ratcheting up of Israeli attacks,” an unnamed source was quoted as saying. “But it’s nothing compared to what will happen once Trump enters office. The Americans are planning to impose an embargo on them and sanctions.”

According to the report, Israel sees the Houthis as a “hard nut to crack.”

Unlike other Iran-backed Shiite groups, which have largely been cowed by Israel’s campaigns against them, the Houthis are high on the hog thanks to their success in imposing themselves as a major player in world affairs, according to an Israeli assessment cited by Ynet.

In the past 10 days, the Houthis have launched five ballistic missiles and at least five drones at Israel,
Golly.
in what the terror group says is a campaign in support of Gaza amid the ongoing war there against the Hamas terror group.

On Wednesday evening, at a Hanukkah candle lighting for Prime Minister’s Office employees in Jerusalem, Netanyahu vowed that the Houthis would suffer the same fate as Israel’s other enemies in the region.

“Today we are lighting the first candle of Hanukkah to commemorate the victory of the Maccabees of that time and the victory of the Maccabees of today,” he said. “Like we did then, we land blows at the oppressors and those who thought they would cut the thread of our life here, and this will apply to everyone.”

“The Houthis will also learn what Hamas and Hezbollah and the Assad regime and others learned, and even if it takes time, this lesson will be learned throughout the Middle East,” he promised.

Netanyahu was joined for the ceremony by Ronen and Orna Neutra, the parents of slain Israeli-American hostage Omer Neutra.

Also on Wednesday, Israeli Air Force chief Maj. Gen. Tomer Bar threatened increased strikes on the Houthis in response to the repeated missile and drone attacks on Israel.

“We act forcefully wherever we are required. We have struck the Houthis in Yemen three times. We will continue and increase the pace and intensity of the attacks as much as necessary,” he said during a graduation ceremony for pilots.

"The FEWS NET alert, unfortunately, issued an analysis without the benefit of further examination by the Famine Review Committee, relies on outdated population estimates, and has methodological limitations based on the availability of data," a spokesperson for the US Agency for International Development tells The Times of Israel.

The spokesperson clarifies that USAID remains deeply concerned about the scale of food insecurity throughout Gaza. It says more than two million people are at risk of famine, particularly in northern Gaza where limited aid has been allowed in amid ongoing Israeli military operations targeting Hamas
..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
.

However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
the USAID spokesperson notes that a recent US assessment mission has provided updated population estimates. The US also hopes recent aid deliveries bringing food to Beit Hanoun will soon be replicated throughout northern Gaza.

Those developments should lead to a more accurate FEWS NET assessment, the spokesperson indicates.

FEWS NET is an independent food insecurity monitor, but is financially backed by USAID, which reviewed the report before it went out yesterday and urged that corrections be made to account for the outdated figures, the spokesperson explains.

FEWS NET decided to go ahead and publish as is, leading USAID to again reach out and request that corrections be made. Following that intervention, the agency agreed to take down the report until further notice, the spokesperson says.

The main issue highlighted by Lew in his Tuesday criticism of the FEWS NET report was that it relied on allegedly outdated figures from ñu the United Nations

Israel is intensifying night-time attacks, says Gaza's civil defence
[GEO.TV] The emergency service issued a statement on Telegram saying Israeli forces have stepped up attacks on residential homes throughout the Gaza Strip in recent days, ''especially at nighttime'', reported Al Jazeera.

The assaults are occurring quite close together, hampering the civil defence's ability to respond in a timely manner, it said.

IDF destroys two 2-km. long Hamas terror tunnels in Gaza
Another major infrastructure project destroyed. The return on investment for the Gaza donors is deeply in the negative — and after appearing so strong for years.
[Jpost] Separately, an IAF aircraft conducted a precision strike, targeting a Hamas terrorist in the al-Furqan neighborhood of Gaza City.

The IDF discovered and destroyed two massive Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip, the military announced on Wednesday.

Soldiers from the Southern Brigade of the Gaza Division recently concluded an operation targeting terror infrastructure and underground tunnels in the southern and central areas of the Gaza Strip.

As part of the operation, the Gaza Division’s engineering unit, in collaboration with fighters from the elite Yahalom Unit, uncovered and destroyed two offensive underground tunnels, each approximately two kilometers in length.

[X]

During the strikes, a terrorist cell attempting to plant an explosive device was neutralized. Anti-tank positions and terror infrastructure that posed a direct threat to the forces were also eliminated.

Separately, an IAF aircraft conducted a precision strike, guided by Military Intelligence and the Southern Command, targeting a Hamas terrorist in the al-Furqan neighborhood of Gaza City.

PRECAUTIONS FOR CIVILIANS
“Prior to the strike, extensive measures were taken to minimize the risk to civilians, including the use of precision weaponry, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence,” the IDF stated.

“The IDF remains committed to acting with strength and determination against terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip,” the statement continued.

Gaza City airstrike hits Hamas operatives about to launch drones — IDF
[IsraelTimes] A group of Hamas operatives in Gaza City who were planning to carry out a drone attack on troops were targeted in an airstrike a short while ago, the military says.

The IDF says the operatives were struck by an Israeli Air Force helicopter, following intelligence provided by the Military Intelligence Directorate, Shin Bet security agency, and the IDF’s 990th Reserve Artillery Regiment.

Palestinian media report three dead in the strike.

“The terrorists used a civilian area to plan and carry out a terror attack with explosive-laden drones against IDF troops,” the military says, describing the attack as imminent.

The IDF says it took steps to mitigate civilian harm in the strike.

Israel kills at least ten in strikes on Gaza Strip
[GEO.TV] At least 10 people were killed and more than a dozen wounded in Israeli strikes on Gaza early on Thursday, medics with the Gaza health authorities said.

Five people were killed and 20 wounded in an Israeli airstrike on a house in Gaza City's Zeitoun neighborhood, the medics reported. They warned the death toll could rise as many remained trapped under the rubble.
The Times of Israel confirms. But a key datum was ignored by the Gazan health authorities, a branch on the civil side of Hamas:
IDF says it carried out targeted strike on Islamic Jihad cell in Gaza’s Nuseirat
[IsraelTimes] Following reports by medics with the Hamas-run Gaza health authorities earlier in the night that five people were killed in the vicinity of Nuseirat’s Al-Awda hospital, the IDF says that it carried out a strike on a “vehicle with an Islamic Jihad terrorist cell inside.”

The military says that prior to the strike, it took “numerous steps to mitigate the risk of harming civilians.”

Palestinian media had said that the five people killed were journalists, and that the vehicle was marked as a media van and was used by journalists to report from inside the hospital and Nuseirat camp.
Are they journalists who are also Hamas, or are they journalists who either love or are afraid of Hamas, and so only report certain things in Hamas-approved ways?
“The IDF will continue to operate against Hamas in defense of the citizens of Israel,” the military adds.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Reports of overnight IDF strike in Baalbek region said to target Hezbollah warehouses
[IsraelTimes] Lebanon’s state media says an Israeli airstrike targeted the Baalbek region in the east of the country before dawn.

A truce went into effect on November 27 after more than a year of hostilities that began when Hezbollah began attacking Israel on October 8, 2023.

The strike near the town of Tarya did not result in casualties, the state-run National News Agency says.

A Lebanese security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, says the strike targeted “warehouses believed to belong to Hezbollah.”

There is no immediate comment from the Israel Defense Forces on the alleged strike.

Syrian police impose curfew over Homs as sectarian conflict flares
[IsraelTimes] Syrian police have imposed an overnight curfew in the city of Homs, state media reports, after unrest there is linked to demonstrations that residents say were led by members of the minority Alawite and Shi’ite Muslim religious communities.

Reuters cannot immediately confirm the demands of the demonstrators nor the degree of disturbance that took place.

Some residents say the demonstrations were linked to pressure and violence in recent days aimed at members of the Alawite minority, a sect long seen as loyal to former President Bashar al-Assad, who was toppled by Sunni Islamist rebels on December 8.

The country’s new leaders have repeatedly vowed to protect minority religious groups, who fear that the former rebels now in control could seek to impose a conservative form of Islamist government.
"Winter is coming!"
Small demonstrations are also reported in other areas on or near Syria’s coast, where most of the country’s Alawite minority live, including in the city of Tartous.

The demonstrations coincide with an undated video appearing on social networks showing a fire inside an Alawite shrine in the city of Aleppo, with armed men walking around inside and posing near human bodies.

The interior ministry says on its official Telegram account that the video dates back to the rebel offensive on Aleppo in late November and accusing whoever circulated the video anew of seeking to incite sectarian strife.

IDF unveils Hezbollah's massive weapons arsenal
[Ynet] The IDF revealed for the first time the massive arsenal seized from Hezbollah’s Radwan Forces in the border area with Lebanon. Nearly a month after the northern cease-fire began, the IDF on Wednesday showcased the significant collection of weapons and equipment Hezbollah had prepared for a large-scale invasion of Israel. The plan, described as far deadlier than the October 7 massacre in southern Israel, was thwarted during IDF ground operations.

IDF forces confiscated at least 85,000 weapons and intelligence items, with additional findings still being uncovered along the Lebanon border. Tens of thousands of other pieces of weaponry were destroyed in Lebanon during the campaign but were not retrieved due to logistical limitations.

The display, open to foreign media, featured anti-aircraft guns mounted on jeeps, hundreds of advanced anti-tank missiles (including long-range models), modern AK-47s, heavy machine guns, sniper rifles from both Eastern and Western manufacturers, explosives of varying sizes, and ammunition boxes on a scale suitable for a small, advanced army. The exhibition also included chemical warfare masks intended for use by Hezbollah fighters in gas and smoke-filled conditions, as well as GoPro cameras meant to document the planned invasion of the Galilee.

According to IDF, the confiscated arsenal includes approximately:

  • 6,840 RPG launchers, rockets, and anti-tank missile systems (including 340 Kornet missiles)

  • 20 military vehicles

  • 9,000 explosives and explosive devices

  • 60,800 pieces of electronic equipment, communication devices, computers, and documents

  • 2,250 artillery shells and high-trajectory missiles

  • 2,700 light weapons

  • 2,860 additional weapons and equipment

  • 60 anti-aircraft missiles

  • 300 observation tools and binoculars
Pix at the link
The IDF reported that ground maneuvers were conducted in about 30 Shiite villages along the 130-kilometer border, stretching from Rosh Hanikra to Mount Dov. However, Hezbollah still retains hundreds of thousands of weapons, including heavy rockets, precision missiles, and drones, although the majority of its arsenal was destroyed during Operation "Northern Arrows," according to the IDF.

The IDF clarified that it did not enter approximately 50 additional Shiite villages used by Hezbollah, located on both sides of the Litani River. In recent weeks, Israeli forces in southern Lebanon have continued targeting Hezbollah operatives who violate the cease-fire agreement. Over the past month, more than 40 operatives have been eliminated, in addition to the approximately 3,000 Hezbollah fighters killed and 7,000 injured over the last year out of the group’s estimated 30,000 military personnel.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Army has begun deploying along the border, and IDF has withdrawn to Israeli territory from those areas. Engineering operations to destroy Hezbollah bunkers and internal combat tunnels are ongoing. The IDF emphasized that the initial 60-day period of the agreement does not represent a “sacred deadline” and that the stages of the agreement will be implemented gradually under an “American umbrella.” This is the first time the U.S. is leading the enforcement mechanism, which is already operational as Israeli residents return to evacuated Galilee communities.

“As part of the learning process about the achievements of IDF’s ground maneuvers, an extensive exhibition is currently showcasing the weapons seized by IDF forces," the IDF said in a statement. "These weapons were intended to be used by Hezbollah to harm Israeli civilians as part of their plan to ‘conquer the Galilee.’ Following the ground operations, these capabilities have been significantly disrupted and are now on display at the exhibition.”
The Times of Israel adds:
The vast majority of Hezbollah’s senior command, 13 members, and former leader His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
...The late, lamented satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...>
, were also killed by the IDF.

The army believes it has destroyed about 70% of Hezbollah’s "strategic weapons," including long-range missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, and anti-ship missiles; and some 75% of its short-range rocket launchers.

Hezbollah is now in a position where it is unable to carry out any major attacks on Israel, according to the IDF’s assessments.

PAGER OPERATION
The IDF also said it had played a key role in the so-called pager operation against Hezbollah, during which thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies went kaboom! in the hands of members of the terror group some three months ago.

The operation was launched some 10 years ago as a joint IDF and Mossad project, as part of preparations in the military to surprise its enemies during a war.

The Mossad’s role in the operation was revealed earlier this week by two former agents who appeared on CBS.

On Wednesday, the army shared some details on its part in the plan. Israeli intelligence efforts ramped up from the beginning of the war with an eye toward implementing the operation. The army said a team of intel experts operated out of a secret surveillance base in northern Israel to bring together research, surveillance and operational capabilities relating to the project.

The IDF recommended holding off on deploying the exploding pagers until the northern front became the main front of the war, and not during an earlier stage when the primary front was still the Gazoo

Strip.

The pagers were set off on September 17, and a day later walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah also blew up.

The military said the level of intelligence that it had on Hezbollah, and the correct and effective use of that intelligence, were key to defeating the terror group.

The military said the intelligence enabled the IDF to degrade Hezbollah’s capabilities and target its top commanders while keeping the terror group in the dark — particularly its late Nasrallah.

In the days following the pager operation, the Israeli Air Force hit thousands of targets across Leb
...The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else?...
, taking out much of the terror group’s rocket and drone capabilities.

Nasrallah was assassinated when Israel bombed his bunker in Beirut on September 27, days before the IDF launched its ground offensive in Lebanon.

POSTS IN SYRIA
The IDF also said Wednesday that it was readying to build temporary army posts inside a buffer zone between Israel and Syria, as the military has been instructed by political officials to maintain its forward defenses there during the winter months.

The military said the army posts are intended to ensure that troops can operate in southern Syria throughout the winter.

The posts will be dismantled when the army is instructed to leave the buffer zone, according to the IDF.

Syria authorities say armed groups have agreed to disband
[NEWARAB] Syria's new leaders announced Tuesday that they had reached an agreement with the country's rebel groups on their dissolution and integration under the defence ministry.

Absent from the meeting were representatives of the US-backed, Kurdish-led forces that control swathes of Syria's northeast.

The meeting between the rebel groups and Syria's new leader Ahmed al-Sharaa "ended in an agreement on the dissolution of all the groups and their integration under the supervision of the ministry of defence", said a statement carried by the SANA news agency and the authorities' Telegram account.

The announcement comes just over two weeks after president Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

(HTS) group.

On Sunday Sharaa, long known by his nom de guerre Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, had said the new authorities would "absolutely not allow there to be weapons in the country outside state control".

That also applied to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), he said.

Last week, the military chief of HTS told AFP that Kurdish-held areas would be integrated under the new leadership, and that "Syria will not be divided".

Thirteen years of civil war in Syria has left more than half a million people dead and fragmented the country into zones of influence controlled by different gangs backed by regional and international powers.

SDF front man Farhad Shami told AFP the question of his group's integration into the national armed forces "should be discussed directly".

He did not dismiss the possibility, saying that doing so would strengthen "the whole of Syria".

Shami added that his forces prefer "dialogue with Damascus to resolve all questions".

Israeli forces fire on Syrians near Golan Heights, injuring five
[NEWARAB] Israeli forces fired on Syrian protesters in the villages of Suweisa and Diwaya al-Kabira in Quneitra province near the occupied Golan Heights on Wednesday morning, injuring five people.

The Daraa 24 local news network said that Israeli forces stormed the village of Suweisa using tanks and two bulldozers, demolishing a number of deserted military barracks in the centre of the village and its outskirts, while also felling trees.

While the Israel troops did not demolish homes, residents gathered to protest against their destructive acts, raising Syrian independence flags.

Local sources told The New Arab's sister site al-Araby al-Jadeed that Israeli soldiers had gun sex and directly at the protesters, injuring three.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
the protest continued, with people from neighbouring villages joining, until the Israeli forces left.

The village of Suwiesa lies to the west of the town of Jasem in Daraa province, and is only three kilometres from the UN-patrolled demilitarised buffer zone separating the Israeli occupied Golan Heights from the rest of Syria.

Israel invaded this buffer zone after the toppling of former President Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

Two more people were maimed when Israeli forces fired on residents of the village of Diwaya al-Kabira in Quneitra province.

Israeli forces had stormed a military base nearby, in order to continue demolition work there.

17 killed in clashes in Syria''s Tartus province
[NEWARAB] A Syria war monitor said 17 people were killed Wednesday in festivities in Tartus province after security forces sought to arrest an officer under deposed leader Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
who was linked to a notorious prison.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said "14 members of the General Security force" of Syria's new authorities were killed, along with "three gunnies" in Khirbet al-Maaza, raising an earlier toll of nine dead.

Forces had sought to arrest an officer who was among "those responsible for the crimes of the Saydnaya prison", added the Observatory.

New Interior Minister Mohammed Abdel Rahman said in a statement that "14 interior ministry personnel were killed and 10 others maimed after... a treacherous ambush by remnants of the criminal regime" in Tartus province "while performing their tasks of maintaining security and safety".

The doors of Syria's prisons were flung open after rebels led by Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
(HTS) ousted Assad this month, more than 13 years after his brutal repression of anti-government protests triggered a war that has killed more than 500,000 people.

The Observatory said the wanted man was "an officer in the former regime forces who held the position of director of the military justice department and field court chief", identifying him as Mohammed Kanjo Hassan.

It said he "issued death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
s and arbitrary judgements against thousands of prisoners".

The festivities in Tartus province - a stronghold of Assad's Alawite minority - erupted after "a number of residents refused to allow their houses to be searched", said the Britannia-based Observatory, which relies on a network of sources inside Syria.
The Times of Israel adds:
The clashes erupted after “a number of residents refused to allow their houses to be searched,” says the Britain-based Observatory, which relies on a network of sources inside Syria.

The officer’s brother and armed men intercepted the security forces and “targeted one of the patrol vehicles,” resulting in the deaths, the Observatory says. It adds that “dozens of people” were arrested in the village.
