Summarizing what was learnt the past 2 days (see Day 1 here, Day 2 here): The shooter is a Bosnian-Austrian named Emra I. or Emrah I., born in 2006, age 18. He lived in Neumarkt am Wallersee, Salzburg with his parents, and had been investigated by the police last year for connections to ISIS and radical Islam due to his interest in ISIS, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham/Al Nusra, weapons, and explosives; while the investigation was dropped, he was banned from having a gun until 2028. He had become a loner during the Covid lockdown, prompting his concerned parents to try to find him psychological help. On Wednesday he bought an old Swiss army Karabiner Modell 1931, 50 rounds of ammunition, and a bayonet form a seller in Vienna. He drove over from Salzburg Thursday morning before shooting at a museum of the Nazi era, a university building, and the Israeli consulate, but within a minute after that last was gunned down most effectively by the police.
There is a large and aggressive radical Islam scene in Austria, particularly around Austrian-born ISIS big turban Mohamed Mahmoud, who died in an air raid on an ISIS prison in Syria in 2018, but it connects to the Balkans and Chechnya rather than the Middle East.

German police rubbed out the 18-year-old man yesterday when he fired a vintage rifle at them near the diplomatic building.
They say they are treating it as a "terrorist attack," apparently timed to coincide with the anniversary of the murders of Israeli athletes in a Paleostinian terror attack at the 1972 Olympic Games.
Authorities raided the gunman’s home in the Salzburg region, seizing electronic data carriers, Austria’s top security chief Franz Ruf tells a presser in Vienna.
During the raid, "no weapons or IS propaganda" material was found, Ruf adds.
Despite being subject to a ban on owning and carrying weapons, the man managed to purchase a vintage carbine rifle fitted with a bayonet with around "fifty rounds of ammunition" for 400 euros ($445) the day before the attack, Ruf says.
At a separate presser in Munich, prosecutor Gabriele Tilmann says Sherlocks are combing through the gunman’s electronic data but have yet to find conclusive evidence of his motive.
But the "working hypothesis" was that "the perpetrator acted out of Islamist or antisemitic motivation," she tells news hounds.
Investigators last year found three videos he had recorded in 2021, showing scenes from a computer game “with Islamist content,” prosecutors said in a statement.
In one of them the suspect had used an avatar with a flag of the “al-Nusra Front,” a jihadist group active in Syria, said Ruf.

But the investigation was dropped in 2023 as there were no indications that he was active in “radical” circles, prosecutors said.
“The mere playing of a computer game or the re-enactment of violent Islamist scenes was not sufficient to prove intent to commit the offense,” they clarified.

A shooting that led to the death of the gunman saw the perpetrator roam and fire a rifle for ten minutes, with police initially unsure whether the rifle was a prop or the real thing.
Bullets struck the Israeli consulate general in Munich, Germany this week in a shooting which ended, as reported at the time, with the gunman being shot dead by responding police officers. The consulate was closed on Thursday morning during the shooting because its staff were attending a memorial for the 1972 Munich Olympics Massacre terror attack, where Palestinian terrorists killed 11 Israelis, the timing leading police to suspect the Islamist-sympathising perpetrator may have struck because of that anniversary.
The suspect, 18-year-old Emrah I., is said to have arrived with a Swiss military surplus “repeating rifle” with bayonet — possibly the K31 carbine of 1933 — on Thursday morning and was quickly spotted by police officers. Yet, reports Die Welt, those police were initially unsure whether the out-of-time rifle was real or a prop and lost sight of the Austrian citizen, Bosnian-heritage migrant.
Emrah I. fired first at the National Socialism Documentation Centre (‘NS-Dokumentationszentrum München’), a new museum and educational centre built on the site of the former ‘Brown House’ national headquarters of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party, which itself was destroyed in Second World War bombing. According to German media, he shot at the building twice. Footage allegedly of the incident shared on German social media shows a gunman being visibly thrown back by the recoil from his rifle.
The migrant gunman then attempted to climb the outer wall of the Israeli consulate general and found he was unable to, and so he opened fire on the building itself. This was also two shots, one of which struck a window. Five other rounds were let off by the teen, including when he ran into a pair of police officers who ordered him to surrender the rifle, when he fired on the lawmen.
Even after now-deceased suspect Emrah I. was gunned down by officers, he still attempted to attack the police from a prone position. In all, he was on the move and firing for around ten minutes, it is stated.
That the perpetrator is reported to have been born to an otherwise well-integrated, stable, middle-class family of migrants in neighbouring Austria also underlines the continued risk European nations face from managing diverse populations, where some second and third generation migrants can become vulnerable to online radicalisation.
Shortly before he was able to fire the shots in Munich, the Islamist terrorist escaped from the police.
Just 15 minutes before the attack, the young Austrian with Bosnian roots caught the attention of a police patrol as he was getting out of his Renault Capture. Although the officers noticed that something was wrong, they decided to continue driving for the time being. That was devastating.
After that, the horrific act in Munich occurred. The 18-year-old Emrah I., with Bosnian roots, fired nine to ten shots after police officers spotted him near the Nazi Documentation Center and the Israeli Consulate, according to “Bild.” The officers returned fire. The attacker was shot and killed. Investigators believe the attack was an attempted terrorist attack by an Islamist.
Emrah lived with his younger brother and his parents in a single-family home development in Neumarkt am Wallersee near Salzburg (population 6,600). According to the “Salzburger Nachrichten,” the house where the shooter lived was in a “well-to-do neighborhood.” Accordingly, the family, which has Bosnian roots, is fully integrated in the community.
Emrah I. first attracted attention at school in February 2023 when he threatened a fellow student, then attacked and injured him. During a search of his room, police found propaganda material from the terrorist organization IS on his cell phone.
According to “Bild”, Emrah I. had played three video games with tactical shooting exercises on the Internet. In the background of the games, the flag of the terrorist group Al-Nusra Front was displayed. Emrah I. was fascinated by weapons, bombs, and killing sprees.

An Islamist apparently botched an attempted terror attack in the German city of Linz, in the Rhineland-Palatinate on Friday after he rushed a police station with a machete. He attempted to get inside but was foiled by the security door, and was locked in — alone — in the compound by officers, who then tasered him into submission.
The suspect, said to be a 29-year-old Albanian migrant, is reported to have shouted the now-familiar “Allahu Akhbar” as he attempted to strike, and investigating officers searching his apartment found an Islamic State flag hanging on the wall. Police have conceded there was likely an Islamist terror motive, but Welt states he was not on the radar of the intelligence services before today.
He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is awaiting trial, with the investigation into the attack being handed by counter-terror officers.

We just had another incident in Munich Old Town. A man was reported to run around with a machete. Lots of police with automatic guns swarming the area around Marienplatz and Viktualienmarkt, helicopters, too. No more info at this point, nothing in the media (yet).

It was the fifth straight night of demonstrations, following the recovery last Saturday of the bodies of six Israeli hostages. They had been murdered days before Israeli troops reached them, almost 11 months after they’d been kidnapped from Israel during Hamas’s October 7 attack.
Next week the same leftwing protesters will be shouting about some other reason Bibi needs to resign.
News of the hostages’ execution sparked outrage in Israel, and drew charges that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been refusing to pursue negotiations with Hamas in earnest, avoiding concessions that might have allowed the Israelis to come home alive but would have endangered his ruling coalition.
As protesters in Tel Aviv gathered at Habima Square ahead of the march, Gil Dickmann, whose cousin Carmel Gat was one of the six slain hostages, accused Netanyahu of "sentencing my cousin to death."
Some members of the crowd shouted: "Murderer!"
"She was abandoned to her death by a government that could have saved her," Dickmann said, noting the number of days Gat was held captive. "There were 327 opportunities to save her, and each and every one of them was missed."

The hostage families and supporters, carrying the caskets, held a mock funeral procession along Begin Street, in the direction of the Begin-Kaplan intersection, in front of the IDF headquarters.
The Tel Aviv thoroughfare has been a locus of demonstrations for a hostage deal and has been blocked by protesters every night since the slain hostages’ bodies were recovered last weekend.
When the 27 coffins arrived at the intersection, the protest began in earnest, swelling to some 2,000 people, who rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud against the government and in favor of a deal.
"We are all hostages of the government of blood!" protesters yelled. "A deal that isn’t signed murders everyone!"
"If there isn’t a deal, we’ll burn down the country — this is the last chance!" the crowd chanted.
A bonfire was lit on Begin Street but quickly put out by police. On one side of the crowd, the road was graffitied with the names of hostages. On the other side, cardboard planks spelled out: "Here lie our hostages."
Inside the crowd, a man in Hasidic garb drew attention and applause as he delivered a philippic against Netanyahu.
"Redeeming the hostages is the entire Torah!" he shouted into a megaphone.
Clearly one of those who pretended to study in order to avoid military service… or pretending to be.Either way, he’s wrong about the Torah.
Police arrested six people at the demonstration, according to an organization that represents detained protesters. There was no immediate comment from police.
As the protest wound down, police on horseback rebuffed some 100 protesters who attempted to march outside the demonstration area on Begin Street.
Central Tel Aviv police chief Micah Gafni was seen pushing one protester out of the crowd and snatching his megaphone. A column of officers later marched into the crowd and confiscated a protester’s drum, eliciting sarcastic applause.

...back at the pond, the enormous newt was trying to decide if Gloria was edible... in Jerusalem, protesters gathered near the homes of Economy Minister Nir Barkat, Knesset Member Aryeh Deri, and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, as well as in the city’s central Zion Square.
In Rehovot, protesters marched behind a banner showing the faces of the six slain hostages recovered last week beside the biblical injunction, "Do not stand idly by your fellow’s blood."
Netanyahu held a discussion on Thursday night, believed to be about ways of retaliating against Hamas for the murder of the six hostages. Channel 13 reported, however, that military officials were expected to tell Netanyahu that taking punitive action would be difficult and that any move seen as aimed at Dire Revenge could hurt talks for a hostage-ceasefire deal and thus further endanger the lives of remaining hostages.
Both Israel and Hamas have reportedly toughened their negotiating positions since the killings, while the United States continues to attempt to bridge the divide. American officials said they would produce a "final proposal" for a deal in the near future, possibly as soon as next week.
Talks have been snagged for weeks on the issue of the Philadelphi Corridor, a strip of land along the Gaza-Egypt border, with Israel insisting on maintaining a military presence there to prevent arms smuggling, and Hamas and Egypt insisting on an Israeli withdrawal.

An American woman was shot and killed by IDF troops during a protest near Nablus in the northern West Bank on Friday, two doctors told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.
Separately, a 13-year-old Paleostinian girl was reported rubbed out when bully boy settlers stormed a village near Nablus and clashed with villagers.
In the first case, witnesses and Paleostinian media reported that the woman was shot by Israeli troops while attending a pro-Paleostinian demonstration against settlement expansion in the Paleostinian town of Beita, southeast of Nablus.
Dr. Ward Basalat said the 26-year-old woman was shot in the head and died after arriving at a hospital. Dr. Fouad Naffa, the head of the hospital, also confirmed the death of an American citizen.
The slain woman was named as Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, 26, an American originally from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... . She was reportedly an activist with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM).
ISM is a leftwing Palestinian “peace movement” founded shortly before 9/11 with funding from the Holy Land Trust that uses international activists as human shields to protect Palestinian terrorists and provide propaganda for the Palestinian cause. Cf. Rachel Corrie, a.k.a. St. Pancake.
The Israeli military said it was investigating the matter.
Protests happen regularly and have grown violent mostly peaceful in the past. A month ago, American citizen Amado Sison was shot in the leg by Israeli forces, he said, as he tried to flee tear gas and live fire.
According to the IDF, during operations near the town of Beita close to Nablus, troops shot up a "main instigator" who was hurling stones at the forces and had "posed a threat."
"A claim that a foreign citizen was killed by gunfire in the area is being investigated. The details of the incident and the circumstances of her being hit are under investigation," the IDF added.

According to the report, Bana Amjad Bakr was shot while in her room at her home in Qaryut.
The Yesh Din rights group said the incident began when dozens of settlers, allegedly guarded by Israeli soldiers, stormed the West Bank village and lit fires in the area. The shots that killed Bakr were fired during festivities that ensued between the settlers and Paleostinian villagers.
Earlier Friday, Kan reported that a car was set alight overnight and the word “Dire Revenge" graffitied in Hebrew along with a Star of David in the West Bank village of Khirbet Abu Falah, near Ramallah.
Arrests of perpetrators in such so-called "price tag attacks" on Paleostinians by settlers are exceedingly rare and rights groups lament that convictions are even more unusual, with the majority of charges in such cases being dropped.
In Jenin, Paleostinian media reported earlier that Israeli troops had withdrawn from the West Bank city following a 10-day operation. The Paleostinian Authority’s official Wafa news agency said the troops pulled out of the city at dawn. However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things... the army said that "troops are continuing with the operation until its objectives are achieved."
The IDF has been carrying out a major operation in the northern West Bank since August 28. The operation — internally dubbed "Summer Camps" by the army — began with simultaneous raids on Jenin, Tulkarem and the Far’a camp near Tubas, with the goal of dismantling Iran-backed Hamas ..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",... and Paleostinian Islamic Jihad ...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah... terror networks in the three areas of the northern West Bank.
So far, according to the IDF, more than 36 button men have been killed in the operation, among them the head of Hamas in Jenin and the head of Islamic Jihad in the Tulkarem area. Another 46 wanted Paleostinians have been detained.
Violence in the West Bank has surged in the past year, following the October 7 Hamas terror onslaught in southern Israel, in which some 1,200 people were massacred and 251 were taken hostage.
Since that date, Israeli troops have arrested some 5,000 wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank, including more than 2,000 affiliated with Hamas.
According to the Paleostinian Authority health ministry, more than 670 West Bank Paleostinians have been killed in that time. The IDF says the vast majority of them were button men killed in exchanges of fire, rioters who clashed with troops or turbans carrying out attacks.
During the same period, 29 people, including Israeli security personnel, have been killed in terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank. Another six members of the security forces have been killed in festivities with terror operatives in the West Bank.
