Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin
[ColonelCassad] In retaliation for the ambush on the convoy of the Malian Armed Forces and the Wagner PMC,
…the work of the CSP-DPA alliance— the latest name of the Azawad (Tuareg) separatists…
powerful air strikes were carried out on Tin Zoutine (a city on the border of Algeria and Mali, in the area of which a recent battle took place). Local sources report about 30-40 militants and 1 field commander killed.
The strikes were carried out not by the Malian or Wagner PMC air forces, but by the Burkina Faso Air Force, which used Turkish Bayraktar reconnaissance and strike UAVs, which feel at ease in this theater of operations with virtually no air defense (unlike in Ukraine).
Ouch. That was not delicately said.
Well, it can be noted that in this case, the Bayraktars are fighting on the side of good - they are at the disposal of both the Malian and Burkina Faso Armed Forces.
In general, this is a kind of retaliation for the recent ambush.
It is worth noting that Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger have recently formed a military defense alliance that provides for the possibility of military operations by members of the bloc on each other's territory in the interests of combating terrorism.
So it can be confirmed that the air force of Burkina Faso has already been involved in joint operations of the Armed Forces of Mali and the Wagner PMC near the border with Algeria.
According to a number of reports, additional reinforcements have been transferred from Libya and Syria to Mali. Negotiations are also underway with the Tauregs on the ransom of captured Wagner PMC fighters.
Fierce battles with terrorists continue in Mali — combat aircraft have retaliated by striking the location of a Tuareg group and foreign mercenaries in Tinhavatin. It is preliminarily known that at least 40 militants have been eliminated and up to 70 more wounded. The details were reported by Voyennoye Obozreniye.
FRENCH TROOPS IN MALI
The second blow to the group's camp was dealt when the militants tried to start transporting "three hundredths" across the border. The publication assumes that they are foreign mercenaries, including Ukrainian ones.
If earlier the Ukrainian media wrote about the successes of mercenaries in Mali, now they have fallen silent, the authors noted.
Eerily silent. Except for the ominous music building in the background, which is a signal of what’s to come…
Previous Ukrainian publications about the attack on the servicemen of the Malian army and the Wagner PMC were full of optimism. Ukraine did not try to hide the fact that its intelligence was involved in the operation and that the GUR officers were part of the Tuareg group, the military observers wrote.
“The joy of the ‘victory’ on the part of the terrorist group, which was supported by Ukrainian militants with funds and under the supervision of Western intelligence services, turned out to be short-lived,” the experts noted.
The Malian army has already published statements that drone operators tracked the movements of militants, after which the data was transmitted to the command post. Then the order to destroy them was received.
Unofficial sources indicate that two surviving Wagner employees are in captivity, and their condition is still unknown.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, joint forces of the Wagner PMC and the Malian Armed Forces fought fierce battles with rebels and Al-Qaeda (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) in the vicinity of the town of Tinzauten on July 22–27.
On July 28, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Mali reported that the army was launching massive strikes on terrorist and smuggler concentration sites, the statement noted.
The bodies of the dead Wagner Group fighters, as well as those captured during the clashes with the Tuaregs, must be returned to Russia, Dmitry Rogozin, a member of the Federation Council from the Zaporozhye region, called on July 29.
Canadian cops raided a hotel room this week to arrest a father and son who were in just hours away from carrying out a mass casualty event.
The duo had gone so far as to record a video showing them brandishing their weapons in front of an ISIS flag while explaining their intended actions.
The family members were named as Canadian citizens Ahmed Fouad Mostafa Eldidi, 62, Mostafa Eldidi, 26, were allegedly armed with an axe and a machete in the video. They were arrested on July 25.
Police say that their target was an unspecified location in Toronto. The hotel where they were taken into custody is located just 30 minutes drive from the downtown area.
They are each facing six ISIS-related terrorism offenses, including possessing weapons for the benefit of the Sunni-terror organization.
[JPost] Removing all doubt
The IDF on Thursday confirmed 100% that its July 13 airstrike targeting Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif succeeded in killing him.
The military said that only in recent hours it had received additional intelligence to confirm Deif's death to a complete certainty, taking into account that the defense establishment had been confident for the last two weeks that its air strike had killed him.
Pressed, the IDF would not only not reveal what the new confirmatory information was, but would also not share what category of information it was.
In such cases in the past, the information is often a very sensitive human spy or a very sensitive electronic spying element which the defense establishment feels would be lost if even a hint of who or what it was comes out.
IDF sources indicated that some members of Hamas and Hezbollah have known for some time that Deif was dead, but that others may not have known because portions of Hamas are currently cut off from the broader Hamas operational network.
THE IDF'S JULY ANNOUNCEMENT
Already on July 21, the military had revealed that Deif was to a 100% certainty in the room with Hamas Khan Yunis Brigade Commander Rafah Salame, when the bombs which were dropped and killed Salame struck.
The fact that Salame was in fact killed and the size of the bombs had already made it a practical certainty that Deif was also killed, though IDF sources until Thursday had cautioned that in one of the prior failed attempted assassinations of Deif, he was in the room which was hit, but happened to be in a tiny part of the room which was just shielded enough by the surrounding objects and setting to survive.
As part of the assassination, the air force had kept a series of five different pairs of aircraft and drones rotating through the role of hovering and passing by the residence where Deif was expected to visit Salame, such that the moment the war cabinet approved an operation, the air force would be able to open fire in practically no time at all.
This is different from the standard situation where aircraft only take off to strike a target after approval is given which creates a certain amount of gap time when a target might escape.
Air force units were in the sky for more than a day and a half, waiting for the word to attack, though Israeli intelligence had been following Salame at the location for weeks.

[GEO.TV] Hamas ..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",... 's military wing, the Qassam Brigades, has issued a statement, calling the killing of Ismail Haniyeh ...became Prime Minister of Gaza after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank... a "dangerous event" that will have "major repercussions across the entire region", Al Jazeera reported.
The statement said: "With the highest expressions of pride and honour, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades announce to our struggling Paleostinian people, our Arab and Islamic nations, and the free people of the world, the martyrdom of the leader Ismail Abdul Salam Haniyeh, commander of the Islamic Resistance® Movement Hamas.
"He was martyred following a cowardly Zionist liquidation operation targeting his residence in Tehran. In response to this Nazi crime, we affirm the following points:
"Firstly, the leader and fighter 'Abu al-Abd' ascended after a life filled with dedication, struggle, and sacrifices. Throughout his journey, he accompanied the various stages of the movement’s development and struggle, leaving clear contributions and marks at different points.
"He gave much to the Paleostinian cause and played a significant role in strengthening the resistance, unifying the efforts of the nation, and directing the compass towards Jerusalem. His life culminated in martyrdom during the noblest battle, 'Al-Aqsa Flood,' fought by our people and the free ones of our nation in defence of al-Aqsa and the sanctities.
"Secondly, the criminal liquidation of the leader Haniyeh in the heart of the Iranian capital is a significant and dangerous event that shifts the battle to new dimensions and will have major repercussions across the entire region. The enemy miscalculated by expanding the scope of aggression, assassinating resistance leaders in various arenas, and violating the illusory sovereignty of regional states. The criminal Netanyahu, blinded by delusions of grandeur, is driving the occupation entity toward the abyss, accelerating its collapse and permanent removal from Paleostinian land.
"Thirdly, this Zionist recklessness must end, and the rampant enemy must be curbed, with its meddling hand restrained to prevent further aggression. The continuous crimes of the enemy across various fronts sound an alarm for all nations and peoples of the region, compelling everyone to support and back the resistance in Paleostine. This resistance serves as the front-line defence for the entire nation, which is why the enemy strives to crush and subdue it to focus on larger aggression against the nations and peoples of the region.
"Fourthly, the blood of our leader Ismail Haniyeh, mingling today with the blood of Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... 's children, women, youth, and elders, and with the blood of our people and fighters, underscores that the resistance and its leaders are at the heart of the battle alongside their people. This precious blood will not be shed in vain but will illuminate the path to liberation. The enemy will pay for its aggression with its own blood in Gaza, the West Bank, and within its borders, wherever our fighters reach by God's will."

Update: While it does appear that a Senior Member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) may have been Eliminated today on the Outskirts of Damascus, I’m becoming doubtful that it was Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh. For one it wouldn’t make much sense for him as…

Hmmmm. Telegram I trust, NYT not so much. What I read, author was excited and proud that they were able to navigate the missile through the window with a small ordinance to destroy the room and kill Haniyeh but not inflict casualties from elsewhere in the house.

[GEO.TV] The missile that killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh struck him "directly", Hamas deputy chief in Gaza Khalil Al-Hayya said on Wednesday, citing witnesses who had been with Haniyeh in Iran.
As a result of the missile strike; windows, doors and walls in his room were destroyed, Al-Hayya told a press conference in Tehran. Bet that really, really hurt. Briefly, of course.

Hezbollah has finally announced the Death of Senior Commander Fuad Shukr, the Chief of Staff and Third-in-Command of the Hezbollah Organization, who was Eliminated yesterday by an Israeli Airstrike on a Multistory Building, in the Suburbs of the Lebanese Capital of Beirut. [JPost] "He was flat, in several pieces, like a paste"
The body of Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukr has been found in rubble in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, two security sources told Reuters on Wednesday.
Lebanon's Hezbollah said early on Wednesday its senior commander was in the building in the southern suburbs of Beirut targeted by an Israeli strike. Of course they also claimed he was alive and well.
The IDF announced late on Tuesday it had killed Shukr, whom it named as Hezbollah's most senior commander and blamed for an attack at the weekend that left a dozen youths dead in the Golan Heights.
[NYPOST] The alleged criminal mastermind of the Sept. 11 terror attacks and two other Death Eaters being held on Guantánamo Bay will be spared the death penalty under a deal with prosecutors, it was revealed Wednesday.
"The Convening Authority for Military Commissions has entered into pretrial agreements with Khalid Sheikh Mohammad ...Mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. He was captured in Faisalabad, Pakistain in 2002 and interned at Guantanamo... , Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin ’Attash, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi, three of the co-accused in the 9/11 case," an Office of Military Commissions (OMC) spokesperson confirmed.
The terror suspects will be spared the death penalty as part of the plea agreement, according to the OMC, which sent a letter to victims’ families Wednesday detailing some of the terms of the negotiations.
"In exchange for removal of the death penalty as a possible punishment, these three Accused have agreed to plead guilty to all of the charged offenses, including the murder of the 2,976 people listed in the charge sheet," the letter obtained by The Post reads in part.
The news came as a gut-punch for families who have been holding out hope for justice for more than two decades.
"I am very disappointed. We waited patiently for a long time. I wanted the death penalty — the government has failed us," Daniel D’Allara, whose twin brother, John D’Allara, was one of 23 NYPD cops killed the day of the attacks, told The Post.
OMC said the specific terms and conditions of the pretrial agreements were not immediately available. The deals are set to be officially announced Thursday and the guilty plea hearings could take place as soon as next week, with sentencings likely to happen next summer, according to the letter and sources.
It was not immediately known where the men will be incarcerated following their pleas.
The defendants, including accused plotter Mohammed, stand accused of providing training, financial support and other assistance to the 19 Death Eaters who hijacked passenger jets and crashed them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, Pa. on Sept. 11, 2001.
The three accused who have accepted a plea deal — along with Ali Abdul Aziz Ali and Ramzi Bin al Shibh — were initially jointly arraigned on June 5, 2008, then again on May 5, 2012, the Department of Defense said in a statement.
The OMC said it first entered into plea deal negotiations with the suspects’ defense counsel in March, 2022.
Victims’ families were outraged by the news that the death penalty was no longer on the table for the suspects, whose alleged actions killed nearly 3,000 in the worst terror attack on US soil in American history.

Curious, that they would make a plea deal after all this time. Worried about the possibility of the next administration not being sympathetic to terrorists?

The 9-11 terrorist group killed 1000's in America and 10's of 1000's more in related deaths worldwide, as they and their supporters were hunted down.
They should have been put on public trial, convicted and their execution televised within a couple of years of their capture.
I understand the need and use of Club GITMO for initial legal and interrogation reasons, but not for 20+ years.
If they had been in a federal prison and general population, after they had been drained of terrorist related info. They would have been deep-fried in the prison kitchen within a week
We must have a mandatory Death Penalty Law and process for certain extremely vicious crimes.
