We got tired of flame wars over a decade ago, Cleared Cookies.
Given that Frank G is proud of being an asshole rather than otherwise — it’s necessary in his line of work — it makes no sense that he’d want to hide the fact. He is also absolutely dear, from time to time, and utterly gallant; those are the things he would hide if he were to hide anything. I’ve had cause over the years to be grateful for all those aspects of his character.

TW: Oh I know Frank takes great pride in being an assh@le. Sorry I cussed.
The saddest thing about his edits is there are few new commenters on this site. If you want the site to grow and profit it can't be just for a few, it needs to be for many. Needless to say, Rantburg is unique, although many of the original 9/11 contributors have dropped out for many reasons.
He snuffs out dumb posts that really are more worthy of leaving alone. I've read posts that basically were dumb, no swearing or threats, just dumb. No reason to delete. There are many lurkers visiting who are wary of posting because of the hostile attitude of Frank. Why don't you want to encourage conversation?
People here like to put the uninitiated in their place. You will note, commenters here like to gang up on unpopular posts. More views, more clicks, maybe more success.
TW, your loyalty is admirable. And I'm sure Frank provides a useful purpose, somewhere. But as long as this site sounds the same every day it's not going to grow. Same guys commenting about the same stuff daily.
Best of luck and I hope your health improves.

If you look (and I have) the site is as active as it has been for the last 10 years. Yes there are a lot of comments from the same people. It was like that for a long time.
As to the issue of backups: the backup site doesn't work at the moment, but we are aware of the issue. In case of a catastrophic loss, we will fix the issue, restore the site, and continue on with Well Reasoned Discourse, as we have since 2001.

Yes. Outside gratuitously abusive posts, personal attacks and the unacceptable calls for violence against public officials, leave the stupid up so everyone can make fun of it.

Thank you for your kind wishes, dear Cleared Cookies. I intend to benefit from the current research on Long Covid, after which the party is at my house! :-)
The saddest thing about his edits is there are few new commenters on this site.
It’s kind of hard to tell at a casual glance, given how many here switched to Fred-generated anonymous nyms even before the feds went all arrest-happy following the January 6, 2021 protest, you included.
Lots of former — and future! — active commenters are content for the moment to lurk quietly, enjoying the interplay and information shared. Some speak up during our annual-ish fundraisers, others even donate without comment, though we are no less grateful for their silent generosity. I myself lurked for several years before plucking up my courage to actually post a comment.
And there are many who only check in when something big happens, trusting us to figure it out before the professional newsies get their shoes on.
The other piece is that flame wars drive off even more readers. Not just those who are targetted, but others who are disgusted rather than amused by that kind of interaction.
Finally, please understand that it’s not just Frank G who spamcops egregious comments. I’ve done my fair share over the years, as have the other moderators.
Skidmark — I always delete duplicate comments, unless there is discussion about it afterwards.

What we really need is another physics discussion, you know the kind, the esoteric, universe broken down to the tiniest bits that nobody but the true physicists understand. Those are neat, even if they can't be understood:)

I've enjoyed the civil, reasoned discourse here for going on 18 years. The comments are often educational and sometimes amusing. When we start picking at each other, it makes me think of [looks both ways] democrats.

Ditto 26, 27.
been here since Insty had you on a blog roll after Sept. 11.
For a slippery consistency here
At the Burg, Herb McCoy is sans peer!
Sure he'd like to be frank
But he can't, Gottseidank,
Since the party line polices his rear.
Here's another one for you to censor, you petty tyrant.
When you silence a man, you are not proving him wrong. You are only proving you are afraid of what he has to say.
Attention website users: a rogue administrator is deleting posts and not allowing you join the conversation, nor to see what's going on. This is not civil, well-reasoned discourse. Aren't you curious to see what you're not allowed to? Doesn't that make you angry that someone thinks you can't think for yourself and you need your reading material censored?
It's human nature to want to know. So here's what the rogue admin censored and doesn't want you to know. pro-America content.
eSo...We the People's government representatives who dare oppose the interests of a foreign country are threatened with being fired?
How does this even work? How are foreign countries able to get Americans fired like this?
It's like some kind of raving crazy anti-Semitic conspiracy theory about the Jewish Space Lasers taking control of the brains of our politicians. Obviously there are no such mind control lasers. But, if there were, what would be different here?
If you think you're not the only one noticing this, you're right. A LOT of people are noticing this. And all of us are asking why? Why is it this way, and what can we do to change it?
What part of "America First!" is difficult to understand?

[Garowe] Somalia-based al-Shabaab ... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... turbans have executed at least 7 people suspected to be spies, in the latest incident targeting innocent civilians and security teams in the Horn of Africa nation, which is fighting with instability.
Hah! They missed the 42 other spies, 39 of which have a form of Mohammed in their names.
The turbans have been on the receiving end for the last 15 months, with the government activating a crackdown against the group, which has been intimidating locals in the Horn of Africa nation, which is struggling with instability.
According to reports, the 7 individuals were accused of being spies of US Africa Command, Kenya, the government of Somalia, and Jubaland intelligence. They were executed in Jilib town, a major stronghold of the krazed killers.
Traditionally, al-Shabaab has executed people believed to be spies of the US army and the government, with some also blamed for working closely with the government of Kenya and the regional administration of Jubaland.
Jilib town in Middle Jubba is one of the major strongholds of the krazed killers, who have been fighting to topple the fragile UN-backed federal government of Somalia. The al-Shabaab have often executed those believed to be sharing intelligence with security teams.
[ShabelleMedia] The Hormuud telecom company said on Monday that NISA arrested 3 of its staff at the Trepiano center, terming the move as "wrong and unlawful".
A statement issued by the private company said that the NISA abused its power to attack its center and terrorize staff and customers in broad daylight during the operation.
This happened after Hormuud Telecom refused to publish the financial activity of the customers in the mobile electronic service known as EVCplus and other bank accounts.
Also, NISA closed down the main headquarters of the company in the Bakara market following the arrests, according to the latest reports.
Somali MPs and other politicians, including former PM Hassan Ali Khaire condemned the NISA action and called on the agency to stop the abuse of power and targeting businesses.
NISA said Hormuud Telecom prevented it from investigating several staff members who are accused of having connections with the hard boyz without providing further details.
NISA attack comes as the company has been under target by an unknown group, who killed several employees and bombed vehicles, and facilities in Mogadishu since last year.
[ShabelleMedia] A jacket wallahwent kaboom! at a busy restaurant near the office of Mogadishu mayor in the capital on Tuesday morning, witnesses and police said.
A witness told Radio Shabelle that a man wearing a boom jacket entered the restaurant, sat down among many people eating their breakfast, and then let 'er rip immediately.
Gunfire was still ongoing in the area and it was difficult for ambulances to access the area, said the witness, adding that police sealed off the blast site and the situation was tense.
"We were in the mayor’s office and we were deafened by a blast, we ran out, gunfire followed," an employee, who works in the mayor’s office, told Radio Shabelle by phone.
The details of the casualties remain unclear so far.
The mayor’s office is located in the local government headquarters building in a well-guarded area of Mogadishu.
Roads in the area have concrete barriers and multiple roadblocks. The building is about one and a half kilometers away from Villa Somalia, the president’s office.
Al-Shabaab ... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... frequently carries out bombings and gun assaults on targets in Mogadishu and across the country. The group has been attacking Somalia’s government since 2006 as it seeks to topple it.
[ShabelleMedia] Ally Himili Hussein, 22 was nabbed at the Liboi border as he walked towards Somalia direction on January 13.
He said he was headed for Dhobley in Somalia, which is under the command of the terror group.
Preliminary interrogation indicated he entered Kenya through Lungalunga border crossing point on January 10, 2024.
He was to stay in Kenya for six months.
He said he was going to Somalia for the first time.
He provided conflicting reasons for heading to Somalia and the passport had an endorsement of a Kenyan visa of six months.
A search was conducted of his two small bags and recovered religious literature both Islamic and Christian, five Tanzanian sim cards (two Vodacom, one Halotel, two Airtel), one Infinix phone with Safaricom sim cards, and a Tanzanite debit card. He was handed over to anti-terror police for grilling.
This is the latest arrest to be made in the area involving a foreigner.
Police say collaboration between security agencies and the local population in the North has gained traction and the locals are now more open and free to share information with the local authorities.
"Members of the public are encouraged to continue sharing information with relevant security agencies," said regional commissioner John Otieno.
Members of the public have also been urged to be vigilant at all times and report to the police any suspicious persons, activities, and unattended luggage.
Police said there is a trend that they have noted with recruits travelling to join either al-Shabaab ... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa... or ISIS, that they are provided with travel arrangements avoiding communications while on the way or asking people about the route to avoid raising suspicion.
The security agencies further cautioned Public Service Vehicle operators to be alert and share any information on the movement of suspicious foreigners.
"The ongoing war against terrorism by the security agencies continues to frustrate the recruitment and facilitation of recruits destined to Somalia to join al-Shabaab," a police report said.
Security agencies have increased their surveillance and investigations that of late have seen swift arrests of youth traveling to join terror groups and cells in Somalia.
Some of the foreigners joining the terror groups are usually used as jacket wallahs in various places, officials say.
Kenya has been a victim of such attacks in the past that left many dead.
[SUDANTRIBUNE] At least nine people were killed and others injured in a series of intense Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s carried out by the Sudan ...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans... ese army Wednesday on locations associated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in North Darfur state, near the border with Libya.
A resident from the area recounted to Sudan Tribune from El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, that "army warplanes dropped a large number of explosive barrels on the al-Zeriq area, resulting in the deaths of at least nine civilians and the wounding of five others."
The resident further explained that the airstrikes targeted the RSF leadership in the region, in addition to the residence of the town’s mayor, Jumaa Dagalo. He indicated that according to information gathered from field sources, the air raids caused the burning of several military vehicles and partial damage to the RSF Command headquarters in the area.
Western reports about the RSF have suggested that the al-Zeriq area serves as a collection point for military supplies arriving from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the RSF via various countries in the region.
The Sudanese army has accused the UAE of involvement in exacerbating the armed conflict in Sudan by providing military assistance to the RSF through the nations of Chad, Central Africa, and Libya. In response, the RSF has denied any claims of receiving external support.
Loyalists of the RSF have released videos and photographs depicting the aftermath of the destruction inflicted by the army’s air operation.
This marks the third instance since the outbreak of hostilities between the army and the RSF in mid-April that warplanes have targeted the al-Zeriq military base. The previous incident occurred last September when army officials claimed to have destroyed weapons, ammunition depots and military vehicles in the town following an air operation.

If the UAE provides the Rebels with shoulder fired anti-aircraft missiles the jig is up.
[AFRICANEWS] Kidnappings and killings have returned to Nigeria’s federal capital, Abuja, after over 10 months of silence from the bandidos.
Bandits, last week, attacked travelers on theAbuja—Kaduna highway and kidnapped over 30 people, witnesses and community leaders said.
The abduction took place at Dogon-Fili near Katari, along the Kaduna-Abuja highway in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
This is the first time in more than ten months when the security along the road artery was breached.
Also 10 persons were kidnapped in the Dutse-Alhaji area of the FCT, Abuja, after button men reportedly dressed as military men, invaded the community.
According to eyewitnesses, the kidnappers, dressed like herders, invaded the estate in the evening around 7:30 pm.
The unfortunate incidents in the areas, bring to the fore the disconcerting reality that kidnappings, often orchestrated by individuals donning military uniforms, persist despite official denials from the police.
A resident, Suileman Ayomi, urged the government to provide more security for the region, saying they are scared because of what happened.
"I am afraid to talk to you because we don’t know who may be the next person, so we appeal to the government to help us with security here and in the whole country," he said.
"The Fulani ... a peculiarly brutal tribe of Moslem herdsmen infesting Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and probably other places that are light on law and order and heavy on tribal identity... s are mainly the problem, sometimes you see them with arms and no body to caution them, they walk freely with machetes and other arms, so they should be controlled and put them in order," said another resident, Charles obodo.
Abuja, a city known for its status as the political and administrative hub of Nigeria, is grappling with a rising tide of kidnappings that seemingly know no bounds.
A Security expert, Dr Jonathan Onoja Isaac says the government should give an account of the reasons why insecurity in the FCT has increased.
"When we begin to have insecurity in Niger, in Kogi state, in Nasarawa and Plateau state, it tells you that the FCT is not secured because these are direct boarders that relate with the capital because people travel to Nasarawa, to Niger state to Kogi and to Benue on a daily basis."
According to Isaac, the government should be faulted for not having the statistics of landlords with their tenants that live in the various suburbs of the city.
"We are talking about insecurity in the FCT when we cannot profile the different people resident here, there are people parading the city every day without profiles, there are foot soldiers who parade and nobody knows what they do. They don’t even have jobs but they go out every day,"
He reiterated that the welfare of Nigerians must be prioritized, adding that we must also begin to talk about education, as one thing that has hindered the progress of the fight against insecurity is illiteracy.
"So what sort of security do we have? When we do not have designated check points for people to be screened on a daily basis. The only time we see check points is when there is a court case or the authority is travelling," he added.
However, ars longa, vita brevis... according to a recent report from a local media, one of the six sisters kidnapped in the Bwari area council of the Federal Capital Territory on January 5, has been reported dead in captivity.

U.S. CENTCOM Strikes Houthi Terrorist Missile Launchers
In the context of ongoing multi-national efforts to protect freedom of navigation and prevent attacks on U.S. and partner maritime traffic in the Red Sea, on Jan. 17 at approximately 11:59 p.m. (Sanaa time), U.S. Central… pic.twitter.com/MMCQbzr1f7
... U.S. Central Command forces conducted strikes on 14 Iran-backed Houthi missiles that were loaded to be fired in Houthi controlled areas in Yemen. These missiles on launch rails presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships in the region and could have been fired at any time, prompting U.S. forces to exercise their inherent right and obligation to defend themselves. These strikes, along with other actions we have taken, will degrade the Houthi’s capabilities to continue their reckless attacks on international and commercial shipping in the Red Sea, the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, and the Gulf of Aden.
“The actions by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists continue to endanger international mariners and disrupt the commercial shipping lanes in the Southern Red Sea and adjacent waterways,” said General Michael Erik Kurilla, USCENTCOM Commander. "We will continue to take actions to protect the lives of innocent mariners and we will always protect our people.”

[Regnum] The Iran-backed Yemeni Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) announced an attack on another American ship in the Gulf of Aden after the US and British navies began bombing their positions. Representative of the Yemeni movement Yahya Saria stated this on the Al-Masirah TV channel.
“The Yemeni navy carried out anti-ship missile attacks on a US ship in the Gulf of Aden in response to aggression against Yemeni territory,” he said.
Saria assured that the Houthis will not leave any attacks against the republic unanswered.
As Regnum reported, on January 15, the Houthis confirmed a missile attack on a US ship in the Gulf of Aden. The military representative of the Yemeni movement, Yahya Saria, noted that the hit was direct. All American and British ships and units participating in military aggression against Yemen are regarded as “enemy targets,” he emphasized. Saria assured that the Yemeni movement will continue to conduct military operations to implement the decision to ban Israeli ships from crossing the Red and Arabian Seas.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the West is indifferent to the deaths of civilians in Yemen and other countries. Thus, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova commented on the bombing of Yemen by the forces of the United States, Great Britain and the international coalition.
On the night of January 12, the American and British Air Forces, with the support of the international coalition, launched strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen. More than 60 Houthi targets were attacked using over 100 precision-guided munitions of various types. The targets of the air raid were drone production centers and weapons depots.
British authorities are investigating information about an unknown drone that was spotted off the southeast coast of Yemen, the UK Maritime Trade Operations Office (UKMTO) of the British Navy said.
It is noted that an unknown drone was spotted approximately 150 nautical miles southeast of the Yemeni city of Al-Shihr. Vessels were advised to proceed with caution and report any suspicious activity.
As Regnum reported, on January 16, the British Navy announced a new attack on a ship off the coast of Yemen. The incident occurred approximately 100 nautical miles northwest of the port of Salif. The Maltese-flagged bulk carrier Zogarafia was attacked. The Ambrey company, which specializes in maritime security issues, clarified that the ship received minor damage after being hit by a missile.
On the night of January 12, the United States, together with its allies represented by Great Britain, Canada, the Netherlands, Australia and Bahrain, launched multiple strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen. According to the Pentagon, about 60 targets in Yemen were hit with more than 150 precision-guided munitions.
British Foreign Office chief David Cameron said that London will support the United States if Washington decides to launch further strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen.
Japanese transport company Nippon Yusen announced the suspension of transportation on the Red Sea. Jiji agency reports this
It is noted that transportation was temporarily suspended due to the tense situation in the region.
According to the publication, this step was taken after American and British troops warned against approaching the area after the bombing began.
As reported by Regnum news agency, the situation in the Red Sea has become the reason for the search for alternative routes, reported the Russian company Sovcomflot, which supplies hydrocarbons and petroleum products. The company believes that due to the conflict, global international supply chains have now been disrupted and, as a result, transportation has become more expensive.
The seaport in the Belgian city of Antwerp suffered disruptions amid the worsening situation in the Red Sea. It is noted that no serious problems have been observed yet, but there are risks of their occurrence due to periodic changes in the movement schedule of sea vessels. Thus, many ships were redirected around the Red Sea through Cape Town, South Africa, which increased the travel time.
Earlier, Reuters reported that a US-owned cargo ship came under rocket fire off the coast of Yemen. The Royal Navy's Maritime Trade Coordination Center confirmed a missile hit a ship 95 nautical miles southeast of the Yemeni city of Aden. According to him, the strike was carried out from the air.
Later, the leadership of the US Armed Forces admitted that the Houthis hit an American container ship in the Red Sea with a missile attack; there were no casualties as a result of the attack.
On the night of January 12, the United States and Britain, with the support of the international coalition, launched strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen. The US Air Force attacked more than 60 Houthi targets using over 100 precision-guided munitions of various types. The targets of the air raid were drone production centers and weapons depots.
Russia does not have official information about the shelling in the Gulf of Aden of a tanker allegedly transporting Russian oil.
The famous Houthi targetting [in]accuracy strikes again, despite all that training they got in Iran.
This was stated on January 17 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
“No official information has been received on this matter,” she said, answering a corresponding question.
The diplomat clarified that Russia stands - and does so consistently - for the safety of international sea routes, cargo and passenger transport, including in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea.
As reported by Regnum news agency, earlier Reuters, citing the British security company Ambrey, stated that Yemeni rebels from the Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) allegedly fired at a tanker in the Gulf of Aden, presumably transporting Russian oil.
The company suggested that the strike could have been carried out by mistake due to the fact that the attackers received outdated information about the ship’s connection with the British company. The ship was flying the flag of Panama, the publication says.
It is clarified that the tanker was not damaged as a result of the shelling, no one was injured, the missile that was launched in its direction fell into the water at a distance of 400–500 m from the side.
On the night of January 12, the United States and Britain, with the support of Australia, Canada, Bahrain, and the Netherlands, began a military operation against the Houthis in Yemen. Traffic targets were hit with Tomahawk cruise missiles. London and Washington explained their actions to protect ships that are under fire from Yemen.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Russia condemns the attacks by the United States and Britain. The Russian leader's representative also called the strikes on Yemen illegitimate from the point of view of international law.
Japanese transport company Nippon Yusen announced the suspension of transportation on the Red Sea. It is noted that transportation was temporarily suspended due to the tense situation in the region.

Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it... province of Iran," a foreign ministry statement says, adding that a "number of bad boyz were potted."
"This morning’s action was taken in light of credible intelligence of impending large-scale terrorist activities," the Pak government adds.

[GEO.TV] Following Iran's violation of Pak airspace, Islamabad Wednesday announced expelling the Iranian ambassador while recalling its envoy from Tehran.
"Pakistain has decided to recall its ambassador from Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... and that the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistain who is currently visiting Iran may not return for the time being," Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said while addressing a press briefing in Islamabad.
The development comes after Tehran targeted the bases of, what it claimed was a terrorist organization — Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice) — inside Pak territory, "Green Mountain" with drones and missiles, and destroyed the headquarters of the said terrorist group, reported Iranian state media.
The attacks killed two children and injured three girls on the Pak side, as per the FO.
Calling it an "unprovoked and blatant" breach of Pakistain's illusory sovereignty by Iran, Islamabad termed the move as a violation of international law and the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations ...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks... "This illegal act is completely unacceptable and has no justification whatsoever. Pakistain reserves the right to respond to this illegal act. The responsibility for the consequences will lie squarely with Iran," Baloch said.
[GEO.TV] Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani Wednesday told his Irani counterpart that no country should follow its path of launching an attack on a neighbouring nation's soil against the menace of terrorism unilaterally.
"No country in the region should tread this perilous path," Jilani told Iran’s FM Hossein Amir-Abdollahian during a telephone call hours after Tehran claimed it had targeted "terrorists" in Pakistain.
The attack killed two children and injured three girls on the Pak side.
Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, in a press briefing in Islamabad earlier in the day, said Pakistain had expelled Iran’s ambassador and called back its envoy in Tehran.
She also revealed that Islamabad has decided to suspend all high-level visits that were ongoing or were planned between Pakistain and Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... in the coming days.

Expressing Pakistain’s unreserved condemnation of the attack, he added that the incident has caused serious damage to bilateral ties between Pakistain and Iran.
The foreign minister added that Pakistain reserved the "right to respond to this provocative act".
Stressing that terrorism was a common threat to the region and required concerted and coordinated efforts to combat this menace, FM Jilani underlined that unilateral actions could seriously undermine regional peace and stability.
Tehran targeted the bases of, what it claimed was a terrorist organization inside Pak territory, "Green Mountain" with drones and missiles, and destroyed the headquarters of the said terrorist group, reported Iranian state media.

Grom,
Apparently the Pakistanis did punch back yesterday, but it's unclear just how hard. Stay tuned.

The IDF says it carried out a dronezap against a group of Paleostinians hurling explosives and shooting at the soldiers, killing several button men. According to the Paleostinian Authority health ministry, four men were killed in the strike.
It releases footage of the strike.
In the Tulkarem operation, dozens of suspects have been questioned, seven have been arrested, and engineering vehicles have uncovered bombs hidden under the roads, the IDF says.
The IDF says the raid is still ongoing.
In the southern West Bank town of Bani Naim, the IDF says troops mapped out the homes of the two Paleostinian forces of Evil who carried out the deadly ramming attack in Ra’anana on Monday, ahead of their demolitions.
In all, 26 wanted Paleostinians were detained overnight, the IDF says.

Earlier today, the Jordanian military claimed its military field hospital was badly damaged as a result of Israeli shelling in the vicinity.
In response to a query on the matter, the IDF’s Spokesperson’s Unit tells The Times of Israel that the military "did not attack the Jordanian hospital in Khan Younis," but that troops were engaged in a shootout with Hamas ...not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,... operatives in a nearby area.
"There are claims that a medical staff member of the hospital was injured as a result of the shooting. As of now, it is not possible to verify that the injury is the result of IDF troops firing," the IDF says.
The IDF says that before troops entered the area, they were briefed on the hospital and were told that it is "a sensitive place and it is very important for the IDF not to endanger it and its people."
"Therefore, fire was not intentionally directed at" the hospital, the IDF says.
The IDF also says "coordination was carried out between the relevant parties," ahead of the army’s operations near the hospital today, in which it instructed the hospital staff to seek shelter.
"The hospital is not damaged and continues to function and provide medical care to those who need it," the IDF says, including an aerial photo from earlier today, following the alleged incident.

Reminds me of when Obama bombed that MSF hospital in Afghanistan. DoDhad the coordinates of the hospital, and as soon as the bombs started landing they got on the horn to the US command and started screaming at them to stop. No, the attack went on for hours, with gunners sent in to murder the fleeing doctors and patients.
After that, Obama was not well liked abroad.During his last term he would often not be greeted by a senior delegation when visiting foreign countries, this was due to the hospital bombing. One of the most shocking events of the 21st century. (at the time)
It was a war crime, and Obama deserves to be tried before the ICJ and face the noose for it.
Just imagine what's going to happen to Isreal's reputation and international reception in the future. Being disinvited to international sport like apartheid South Africa was will hardly be the half of it.

I'd say that was a BS Story. Proof?

Well...are we allowed todiscuss that?
Does this site have, like, a list of banned topics or something? Do I have to give trigger warnings about certain topics and use spoiler tags?
I'm not writing up along post about the Kunduz Hospital Attack only to have it erased by some petty blog administrator on a pettty power trip. The usual, you know: the Pentagon investigated itself and found itself not at fault. It was a little whoopsie, you see. Definitely not a war crime.

You can "write up" whatever you want. When someone reading a post thinks proof is in order, they are talking about links to acceptably credible third-party accounts, not a lot of florid allegations in the comment.

The Kunduz war crime was due to the MSF hospital treating Taliban WIA and sending them back onto the battlefield. Then some war criminal at the Pentagon decided on his own accord to put a stop to it and commit a war crime on our behalf. Naturally he was never and arrested for violation of the UMCJ. All that happened was the usual, a couple of low ranking nobodies were punished for "communication difficulties" when the whole CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY was coordinated from inside the Pentagon.
Go figure, later we found out the same people had been lying about Afghanistan for 20 years. Then they lost the war.
This will keep happening until these people start going to prison. If it fucked up Saint Obama's image internationally, just think of what hospital attacks like this will do to Israel in the years and decades to come. Ironically "we didn't target it, it's not a war crime because that requires intent" was the same excuse the deep state used at the time. Nobody believed it, least of all the deep staters who ordered the atrocity.
I’ll note that, like the Palestinians in Gaza, using a civilian hospital as a military command post and/or weapons storage facility is a war crime according to the Geneva Conventions, and makes the site a legitimate military target. The fault for all subsequent harm to civilians is laid legally at the feet of the party using it for military purposes, not the party responding militarily. By that argument what the Americans did was therefore not a war crime.
There was a time when people understood that war is not fought using Queensberry Rules.
Given how very far Barack Obama is from sainthood, it was long past time for the internationals to understand exactly what kind of man they had dreamed of having in the Oval Office — we who voted against him already knew. Not that it matters, as that disillusionment happens to every Democratic American president, while the internationals preemptively object to Republican American presidents on principle. I watched it happen to President Clinton from inside the belly of the beast, as it were — to me a fascinating process.
For those who want to do their own searches: in the top right margin of each of the main Rantburg pages (WoT, WoT Background, etc) there is a button that links to the archives, ordered by date. Scrolling down the main Rantburg pages, you’ll find a search button with a box below it to enter your search terms — this pulls up a page to search the entire Rantburg archives at once, giving you a list of articles during the period you designate; the search button and box show up at the top right of each individual article page as well. I’ve saved that search page as one of my favourites — I use it a lot.

People who are afraid of publicity when they know the Big Guy in the White House doesn’t have their back will say things like that, even when they know it isn’t true.
And then people like you, Thrans White2909, rear up on your hind legs to recite chapter and verse from the Idiot’s Handbook, having looked no farther, thinking this somehow means you won.
I learnt about the Geneva Conventions by listening to people who are required to understand it to succeed in their profession, and then by reading the actual words for myself. You aren’t going to persuade me or anyone here if you will not do at least as much.

Military says squad leader targeted in Balata camp received financing and instructions from Iran; soldier seriously wounded; another strike carried out in Tulkarem
Members of a cell headed by a top terror leader in the West Bank who were planning a "large imminent attack" were killed in a dronezap overnight, the Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet security agency said Wednesday.
Five Paleostinians were reported killed in the Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... , and another five were killed in a separate strike hours later during festivities between IDF troops and button men in the West Bank.
The IDF and Shin Bet identified the cell leader as as Abdullah Abu Shalal, calling him the head of "one of the main terror networks" in the West Bank.
A joint statement said Abu Shalal and the other members of the cell were targeted in the strike near the Balata refugee camp in Nablus, following intelligence about their intention to carry out a major attack imminently.
The attack was believed by the IDF and Shin Bet to have been intended to be carried out in an Israeli city.
The statement said Abu Shalal had received financing and instructions from Iran, as well as terror groups in Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... and overseas.
The Paleostinian Authority health ministry said four other people were killed in the strike. The other members of the cell were not immediately identified.
The military said Abu Shalal was responsible for a string of recent attacks, including a shooting attack last April in East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in which two Israelis were maimed, and the planting of a bomb in October that maimed a soldier.
The military said that after the strike on the terror cell, weapons were found in the car in which they were traveling. Images published by the IDF showed a machine gun, two handguns, magazines, and several bombs.
Hours after the strike in Balata, the IDF said it carried out another airstrike, against a group of Paleostinian button men in the West Bank city of Tulkarem, amid a counter-terrorism operation.
The IDF said the suspects were shooting and hurling bombs at troops operating in Tulkarem. One reservist was seriously maimed by the gunfire, it said.
The Paleostinian Authority health ministry said five people were killed in the Tulkarem strike. Images on social media showed a number of maimed or killed Paleostinians next to a heavily damaged vehicle that was apparently hit.
The IDF said that in the Tulkarem operation, dozens of suspects had been questioned, seven were arrested, and engineering vehicles uncovered bombs hidden under the roads.
It said the raid was still ongoing as of Tuesday afternoon.

Under a deal thrashed out by mediators Qatar and La Belle France on Tuesday, medicines along with humanitarian aid are to be supplied to civilians in Gaza in exchange for delivering drugs needed by hostages held there.
Forty-five hostages are expected to receive medication according to the agreement.
On Wednesday, Musa Abu Marzuk, a senior member of Hamas's political bureau, revealed new conditions for the delivery of medicines to hostages.
"For every box of medicine that goes in for them, 1,000 boxes will go in for residents of Gaza," he said on X, formerly Twitter.
Marzuk said the medicines would be supplied through a country that Hamas trusts and not La Belle France, and would go to different hospitals.
"The pharmaceutical trucks will enter without Israeli inspection."
