[FoxNews] Former San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy Meagan McCarthy says jammed gun saved her life
Former San Bernardino Sheriff's Deputy Meagan McCarthy tells 'Fox News @ Night' the not guilty verdict in her attacker's case sets a bad 'precedent.'
A California man who was caught on video pummeling a sheriff's deputy and shooting at her with her own gun in 2019 was found not guilty of attempted murder and other charges by a jury, with the victim saying the decision sets a bad precedent for law enforcement.
Former San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy Meagan McCarthy was the closest law enforcement officer when a frantic 911 call came in from a mother, pleading with dispatch for help and for someone to save her from her own son.
McCarthy rushed to the home and saw a man with "clenched fists" who came outside and then made a "bee-line" in her direction as she got out of her patrol vehicle. Behind him was his mother, with a knife in her hand and still on the phone with dispatch.
"The 911 call came out for an unknown problem, which basically means there's something going on, we just don’t know," McCarthy told Fox News Digital. "So the woman on the other end says to dispatch, ‘Oh, my God, oh, my God! Get my son out of here.’ And she kind of goes quiet on the line. That prompts a priority 1 response, which means somebody needs to get there right now."
McCarthy was the first deputy to arrive at the house and the suspect, Ari Young, looked "very angry," she said. Video taken on a neighbor's cellphone shows he started pummeling her in the face. He then beat her to the ground, seized her gun and began firing shots in her direction. Her injuries included a broken thumb and a black eye.
"Based on my training and experience, it was easy to infer that something was going on," McCarthy recalled of her initial arrival. "People don’t just arm themselves against their son with a knife for no reason, and the fact that she had already made these statements to dispatch was just awful."
The deputy approached Young and attempted to calm the situation and pat him down.
"Thirteen seconds into our interaction, he told me, ‘I will headbutt the f--- out of you,'" she recalled. "So I knew his intentions weren’t going to be of compliance."
Video shows that he punched her repeatedly, the two struggled for a gun, and he fired multiple shots after taking it. McCarthy told Fox News Digital on Wednesday that she had only survived because the gun jammed the first time he pulled the trigger, aiming directly at her face.
Young's defense attorney, however, argued that McCarthy had no lawful reason to do what she was doing, and therefore his client was acting in self-defense.
Raj Malin, the defense lawyer, told Los Angeles' ABC 7 that McCarthy did not have reasonable suspicion to justify patting down his schizophrenic client when she arrived on scene.
Schizophrenic, attacked his mother, shot directly at the police officer with her own gun... This one has not guilty by reason of insanity/guilty but insane and “Lock him up until he can be trusted to take his meds every day” written all over it.
"The issue was, was the initial detention of Mr. Young legal?" he told the station. "If it's not, then he's not guilty. ... He could punch her 100 times, and it wouldn't matter."
A California jury found Young not guilty of attempted murder and assaulting a peace officer, instead finding him guilty of the lesser charge of negligent discharge of a firearm, and failed to reach a verdict on several other allegations, including resisting arrest.
"His whole thing was, I didn’t do my job right. I had no right to detain him. I had no right to search him," McCarthy told Fox News Digital. "But that’s exactly what we are trained to do. That’s exactly what peace officer standards in training from the state of California says to do. It just set him off. It was like a trigger for him."
California State Assemblyman Bill Essayli, R-Riverside, a former federal prosecutor and deputy district attorney in nearby Riverside County, said the case should have had enough evidence to secure a conviction — and that there may have been anti-police bias in the jury.
"[The defense] argued that she didn't have a lawful authority to detain him, and therefore, he's free to defend himself and do whatever he wants to get away from her, including beating her up and shooting at her," Essayli told Fox News Digital. "That's not correct. That's not the law. And I don't think the judge should have allowed that argument to be presented in that manner."
McCarthy, a mother of two young daughters herself, survived but was forced to retire from the job she loved due to post-traumatic stress.
Backup arrived, returned fire and took Young into custody. Although deputies shot him, Young survived the encounter and walked free after his acquittal on the attempted murder charge.

I like the part where he was only punished for not using a murder weapon correctly.
[NYPOST] A 23-year-old Tennessee woman was rubbed out at a convenience store where she worked the midnight shift only hours after she expressed safety concerns — and a father and son have been charged in her murder.
Tava Woodard, a clerk at the Roadrunner Market on North Broadway in Johnson City, texted friends and co-workers on June 2 about a shoplifting incident and said she wanted to find a new job, People reported.
A short time later, two masked men identified as Mark Sexton Jr., 41, and his son Mark Sexton III, 18, entered the store and stole money from her at gunpoint, WJHL reported.
"The two men then walked towards the door but as they were leaving, one of the men turned around and fired a shot from the pistol, striking Ms. Woodard," according to an affidavit cited by the outlet.
When police arrived eight minutes later, they found her body lying on the ground.
The officers found a 9mm shell casing and two blue nitrile gloves in a nearby alley, WJHL reported. The gloves matched the ones the suspects were seen wearing in the surveillance video.

Lot of stories about crime families in the news lately.
[NYPOST] A Maryland funeral home owner upset with another company allegedly rubbed out a pallbearer during the burial of a 10-year-old girl who died in a drive-by shooting in Washington, DC, on Mother’s Day.
Arianna Davis, who was shot while asleep in her family’s car on May 14 and later died, was being buried at Washington National Cemetery in Suitland on Tuesday when gunfire erupted, NBC Washington reported.
Wilson Chavis, 48, owner of the Compassion and Serenity Funeral Home, allegedly killed Ronald Banks, 30, who served as a pallbearer at the funeral, as a result of the longstanding business dispute with Freeman Funeral Services.
A woman who was Arianna’s cousin suffered a leg wound in the shooting, the girl’s mother, Antionette Belk, told the news outlet.
Chavis, of Hughesville, Maryland, has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and attempted murder, according to Prince George’s County police.

Shoot, I might just sign up for cable to see that series. Might, hell... take my money now, on the prepaid plan!
[NYPOST] Legendary Christian broadcaster and former presidential candidate Pat Robertson, who founded the Christian Broadcasting Network and galvanized religious Republicans into a powerful political force, died at his home in Virginia Beach early Thursday. He was 93.
Robertson’s death was announced by his broadcasting network, which he founded in 1960. No cause of death was given.
"My dad was at home, surrounded by his family when he entered glory and met his Savior face to face, whom he loved and served with his whole heart, mind, and being," Robertson’s son and Christian Broadcasting Network CEO Gordon Robertson wrote in a tribute.
"My father was an extraordinary man by any standard. He was an evangelist, a humanitarian, an entrepreneur, an educator, an author, a statesman, a television personality, a man of global influence and tremendous vision."

...The man was a coward who used his father's political influence to avoid combat in Korea, and not a single dime of the millions he pulled in ever went to the people who lived in literal hovels within sight of his home.
"I have never rejoiced at another man's death...but there are some obituaries I have read with more pleasure than others."
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] I could have sworn we had this story at an earlier stage of the proceedings, but it must have been a similar story elsewhere.
Trans woman Haven Wilvich complained to a state commission board after being denied membership of a female-only spa Olympus Spa
The board ordered the Korean run spa to change their policy on gender after finding them to have discriminated against Wilvich
Now a judge has upheld the ruling made by the board after the spa attempted to sue them
A women's spa, where nudity is compulsory, has been ordered by a judge to admit pre-op trans women with penises after an activist complained when the owner tried to ban them.
Olympus Spa had attempted to sue the Washington State Human Rights Commission (WSHRC) after being ordered to change their rules.
Trans woman Haven Wilvich's membership application for the Korean spa was declined. She alleged the spa told her 'transgender women without surgery are not welcome' and complained to the commission.
The family-owned spa, which has a branch on the outskirts of Seattle and one in Tacoma, is modeled on Jjimjilbang - sex-segregated bath houses in Korea - and offers monthly memberships and day passes.
Now, a Washington District Court has dismissed the lawsuit filed by the spa and upheld the original ruling by the WSHRC. The Pacific Northwest state is one of several Dem-run areas where trans people are permitted to use facilities which align with their gender without question.
In her judgement, District Court Judge Barbara Jacobs Rothstein upheld the ruling made by the WSHRC and said that the measures taken to the prevent the spa from having a female-only policy had been lawful.
In the initial complaint to the commission, Wilvich said she was a transgender woman who was 'biologically male' and had not undergone sex reassignment surgery.
Wilvich alleged that she had gone to the spa in January 2020 in search of a service but was discriminated against.
She claims that Olympus Spa told her that 'transgender women without surgery are not welcome because it could make other customers and staff uncomfortable.'
In March 2021, the WSHRC had served the spa owner Myoon Woon Lee and the spa's President Sun Lee with a Notice of Complaint of Discrimination.
The commission asked them to respond to the claims made by Wilvich, with Sun Lee releasing a statement standing by their decision.
Lee explained that Olympus was a family-owned 'women's Korean traditional health spa' and noted that nudity was required for certain treatments.
He wrote: 'We firmly believe it is essential for the safety, legal protection, and well-being of our customers and employees that we maintain adherence to this adaptation of a females-only rule.'
The spa disputed the Wilvich's claims, asserting they had no documentation showing she had ever applied to enter the facility.
But the WSHRC upheld their ruling, and offered the spa a Pre-Finding Settlement agreement to avoid prosecution.
The Pre-Finding Settlement required the spa to remove all references to 'biological women' on their site, and provide staff with 'inclusivity' training.
This the prompted the lawsuit from the Spa, saying their First Amendment rights had been violated.
The court offered Olympus Spa 30 days to amend their complaint and refile.
Wilvich had previously boasted about the success of her complaint on Facebook after the initial WSHRC ruling.
She said: 'I did it! I worked with the WSHRC and got Olympus Spa (the main naked lady spa in the area) to change their policies and allow all self-identified women access regardless of surgery and genitals.'
In another post she said: 'Making fun of Viagra or small penises isn't the feminist act you think it is. It harms trans women and femmes with penises.'
Wilvich also posted on Facebook, writing: 'I realized something important today. I'm more woman than any TERF will ever be because I am an intentional woman whereas they are only incidental.'
Prior to Wilvich's transition, she sat on the board of the Seattle Nonbinary Collective, and described herself as a 'a tall, bearded, transfemme, King County native.'
Olympus Spa is not the first Korean spa in the United States to come into the crosshairs of the gender ideology debate over the past two years.
In 2021, a Korean spa in California made international headlines after a trans-identified sex offender was granted access to the women's facilities in accordance with California state law.
Suspect Darren Merager spent 15 months on the run following the controversy, which triggered riots between Antifa and women's rights campaigners.
Merager faces five felony counts of indecent exposure.

The problem with running a public accommodation is that you have to accommodate the public. Perhaps the solution is to go private.
In the American South, in dry counties, since it is unlawful to sell liquor to the public, private members-only clubs have sprung up. Typically, you can join on the spot for a nominal fee. Perhaps a similar approach could deal with fake woman problem.
[PAGESIX] Following the announcement Wednesday that CNN ...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for... head Chris Licht is out of the company after an embarrassing profile in the Atlantic, Page Six hears that big shots of the PR team who let it happen are also on their way out.
A source tells us that network execs are cleaning house in the communications department, which oversaw the article that laid bare everything from Licht’s distaste for its journalists’ work under the previous boss to his workout routine.
We hear that senior vice president of communications Matt Dornic — who made several appearances in the article "Inside the Meltdown at CNN" as an "omnipresent" figure and is described as "a mainstay of Licht’s small entourage" — has been given the boot.
He was with the company since 2011.
Another source tells us that EVP and global head of communications and marketing Kris Coratti Kelly was cleaning out her desk last night.

[AFRICANEWS] Former Ivorian president Laurent Gbagbo ... Former President-for-Life of Ivory Coast from 2000 to 2011. Laurent lost to Alassane Ouattara in 2010 but his representtive tore up the results on the teevee and he refused to vacate the presidential palace. French troops assisted the Oattara forces in extricating him from his Fuhrerbunker... , who has been struck off the electoral roll has filed an appeal to be registered to vote in local elections scheduled for September 2. The former Ivorian president said on Thursday that he would not let his name be "sullied".
"I was taken to the ICC with tons of accusations: crimes against humanity, war crimes, rape. All that, but I was there. So I defended myself and I won, I was acquitted. Here they're hiding in secret and they're pinning an accusation on me. No. It's too political, it's not worthy of being called a trial" Gbagbo, said. "No, no and no I won't let my name be sullied without a fight. I'm still standing!" he hammered in a statement to the press, after lodging an appeal in person at an office of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) in Abidjan.
Although Mr. Gbagbo has been acquitted by international justice of crimes against humanity committed during the bloody post-election crisis of 2010-2011, he remains under a 20-year prison sentence handed down in his absence in Côte d'Ivoire. The conviction, handed down in 2018 while he was imprisoned in The Hague, had led to the forfeiture of his civic and political rights.
"Today, what President Bedié, Ouattara and I have to do is behave in such a way that we leave a peaceful Côte d'Ivoire to the younger generations. That must be our goal. Our goal is no longer to beat each other up. That time has passed" added the former Ivorian leader.
Some eight million voters are due to go to the polls in Côte d'Ivoire on September 2 to renew municipal and regional councils.
The next presidential election is scheduled for 2025.
[ZH] In March 2022, an FBI Special Agent sent Twitter a list of accounts on behalf of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Ukraine’s main intelligence agency. The accounts, the FBI wrote, “are suspected by the SBU in spreading fear and disinformation.” In an attached memo, the SBU asked Twitter to remove the accounts and hand over their user data.
The Ukrainian government’s FBI-enabled targets extend to members of the media. The SBU list that the FBI provided to Twitter included my name and Twitter profile. In its response to the FBI, Twitter agreed to review the accounts for “inauthenticity” but raised concerns about the inclusion of me and other “American and Canadian journalists.”
The FBI’s attempt to ban Twitter accounts at the request of Ukrainian intelligence is among the most overt requests for censorship revealed to date in the Twitter Files, a cache of leaked communications from the social media giant.
The FBI’s censorship request was relayed in a March 27th, 2022 email from FBI Special Agent Aleksandr Kobzanets, the Assistant Legal Attaché at the US Embassy in Kyiv, to two Twitter executives. Four FBI colleagues were copied on the exchange.
“Thank you very much for your time to discuss the assistance to Ukraine,” Kobzanets wrote. “I am including a list of accounts I received over a couple of weeks from the Security Service of Ukraine. These accounts are suspected by the SBU in spreading fear and disinformation. For your review and consideration.”
FBI Special Agent Aleksandr Kobzanets’ censorship request to Twitter.
The document, drafted by Ukraine’s SBU, contained 163 accounts, including mine. (The list is numbered to 175, but some accounts have two corresponding numerical lines).
If granted, the users on the list would not only have been banned from Twitter but had their phone number, date of birth, and email address disclosed to both the FBI and SBU.
In response, Yoel Roth, Twitter’s then-Head of Trust and Safety, informed Special Agent Kobzanets and his FBI colleagues that Twitter would “review the reported accounts under our Rules.” But he warned that the list included “a few accounts of American and Canadian journalists (e.g. Aaron Mate).” Therefore, Roth said, Twitter’s review would “focus first and foremost on identifying any potential inauthenticity.”

[Breitbart] Instagram, the globally popular social media platform owned by Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook (now known as Meta), has failed to stop the connection and promotion of a vast network of accounts involved in the creation and purchase of child pornography, according to recent investigations by researchers at Stanford University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Child Pornography dealers on Instagram are so brazen that they offer a “menu” of services directly on Zuckerberg’s platform.
The Wall Street Journal reports that according to recent investigations by researchers at Stanford University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Instagram, the widely used social media platform owned by Facebook, enabled the connection and promotion of a vast network of accounts involved in the creation and purchase of child porn.
Researchers claim that Instagram’s algorithms, which were created to link users with similar niche interests, promote these illegal activities. It has been discovered that the platform’s recommendation systems direct users toward explicit content and link content sellers and pedophiles.
“Instagram’s algorithms excel at linking those who share niche interests. Unfortunately, this has led to the promotion of pedophilic activities and the connection of pedophiles with content sellers,” said a researcher involved in the investigation.
Researchers discovered that users could access accounts that sold child sex material by using the search feature on Instagram to locate explicit hashtags. Some accounts even provided “menus” with content options, including clips of kids hurting themselves and having sex with animals.

Not control burns, not natural (from lightning), and not from "climate change".
This looks like an attack of some kind at this point, but I can't rule out the plate shifting / heat releases along the craton edge yet.
If an attack, it could be 1 of 2 ways... either a huge group of people doing it coordinated, or a DEW from above (space or air based directed energy weapon).
Those are the options. Natural plate shifting releasing heat, coordinated attack orchestrated by hundreds of people working in unison somehow secretly, or a DEW from above.
This is getting insane, but there it is.
Add in most of Mexico, also South New Jersey, Arizona, New Mexico, and California to the burning list now..... the whole plate with fires along the craton edges and perimeters. This is why I still can't rule out natural sources for these heat bursts causing widespread fires along the plate edges.
California has a natural annual fire season caused by lightning strikes, in recent years made worse refusal to remove highly flammable underbrush and even more flammable invasive eucalyptus trees coupled with malicious fire starting by yoots and Antifa types. Apparently Canada has also started to refuse to clear out flammable underbrush, and has also let fire roads become overgrown, preventing firefighters from getting close enough to fires to do anything toward reducing them or putting them out.

When we had our fun 6 years ago, what had happened is during Winter there was a particular ice storm which did some damage.
Come Spring, we had what was lovingly referred to as a wind event. Well, all those powerlines and electric fences which were damaged but still working, not showing signs, sparked.
West Kansas, East Colorado, North West Oklahoma and Texas Panhandle all basically caught fire at near the same time.
In that same grocery aisle, more common is a storm with lightning comes through, and the tree strikes smolder. Then a few, even 5 days may go by and the wind blows, and those embers starting lighting up fuel and, again, its fire everywhere all at once.
I am willing, however, to let those who brag about using fire to press their cause to go to the head of the blame line.

[Gateway] Amid reports that the Department of Justice is planning to drop an indictment on former President Donald Trump for his handling of classified documents, a new report has emerged that runs contrary to the narrative that the former president never followed the rules.
According to a report from CNN, a former official who served in the White House during the Trump and Obama administrations as an adviser on declassifying documents, provided specific instances of when Trump ensured everything was done by the book.
The former official, whose name was withheld by CNN, said Trump knew the process for properly declassifying documents, although he did not go so far as to say it was always followed.
The official, who was interviewed by the Justice Department in the Trump probe and the department’s investigation into President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents, said the tone of each probe was very different.
When comparing the questioning about Biden to that about Trump, the former official said, "You wouldn’t expect it to match the intensity, and it didn’t."

Maybe the contract for this particular Chinese project was not constructed in their customary predatory manner...
[Shafaq News] Reflecting a decade of commitment under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Chinese corporations continue to pioneer green development prospects worldwide. A significant breakthrough in this regard has been the recent commencement of Iraq's largest photovoltaic power station, aimed at alleviating the nation's energy crisis.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 18 in Erbil Province, within Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region. Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, inaugurated the initiative, marking the province's inaugural foray into solar power.
In his address, Barzani conveyed appreciation to the companies involved, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing clean, sustainable, and alternative energy sources. "We have strived towards reforms in this sector to enhance the provision of electricity services to the people of Kurdistan," he stated.
Getting International Energy Holdings Group, a Chinese enterprise, has made a notable investment of $100 million towards the construction of the 200-hectare photovoltaic facility. Expected to yield 25 megawatts per hour upon completion, the plant will provide 220 million kWh of clean energy to the Kurdish region annually.
CEO of the group, Zhang Rui, highlighted the significant contributions the BRI has made over the past decade towards promoting peace, prosperity, openness, green development, innovation, and civilization. The project showcases how the Chinese company has transferred high-quality production capacity, capital, technology, and management expertise to Iraq, within the BRI framework, thus fostering bilateral cooperation.
He Yun, Associate Professor at Hunan University's School of Public Administration, commended the construction of the photovoltaic plant. "This is a commendable example of how the green development ethos of the BRI is being put into practice," she said, adding that it also "demonstrates China's commitment to promoting sustainable growth and improving people's livelihoods in the regions it engages with."
This milestone underlines the growing commitment of Chinese companies towards encouraging green development along the Belt and Road. By installing renewable energy infrastructure, such as solar power stations, these firms provide a critical resource that can stimulate local economic growth and contribute to global efforts to combat climate change.
While the plant is anticipated to commence operations in about 20 months, the project signifies a significant leap towards a sustainable energy future for Iraq and sets an optimistic precedent for green energy ... the attempt to produce energy without using fossil fuel. The preferred methods are solar, wind, geothermal, phlogiston, philosophers' stones, and rattling bears' teeth. The approach with the most promise involves attaching generators to perpetual motion machines, but using Words of Power to summon energy-rich demons may also work. The green in the term refers to the vast number of dollars that have been thrown at the problem since 1973 with indifferent results... initiatives across the globe.
