[DW] The migrants colonists come from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador and were turned over to authorities. The incident comes after more than 50 migrants colonists were found dead in a semi-trailer in Texas last month.
Almost 100 migrants colonists were left abandoned in a freight trailer on a highway in Mexico and had to break their way out to escape suffocation, Mexican authorities said Thursday.
The 94 undocumented foreigners, including several children, from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador were turned over to immigration authorities, according to Mexican officials. Around 100 more were believed to have fled.
The migrants colonists were bound for the US border and were discovered on Wednesday night on a highway in the eastern state of Veracruz.
"They indicated that they were abandoned by the driver," a police report said.
LOCALS HELP BREAK OPEN CONTAINER
The abandoned migrants colonists had to break holes in the freight container to get out, according to Carlos Enrique Escalante, the head of the state migrant attention office.
Some of them sustained injuries when they had to jump off the roof of the trailer. The injuries were not considered life-threatening. About a dozen people were reportedly taken to hospital due to bruises and symptoms of asphyxiation.
Residents near the town of Acayucan helped break open the freight container, Escalante said.
Moslem colonists Migrants die or disappear en route to US
People smugglers in Mexico often use overcrowded trucks to illegally transport migrants colonists across the border.
In June, more than 50 migrants colonists, including 22 from Mexico, died after they were abandoned in the sweltering heat in a semi-trailer in San Antonio, Texas.
In a statement, the White House had called the immigrant deaths "absolutely horrific and heartbreaking."
Around 6,430 migrants colonists have died or disappeared on their way to the US since 2014, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
[Rudaw] A Ottoman Turkish soldier fighting a Kurdish gang in the Kurdistan Region was killed, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire... ’s defense ministry said on Thursday amid its ongoing military operation in the Region’s mountains.
The soldier was killed in Turkey’s Claw-Lock operation in Duhok province where fighting between members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Ottoman Turkish forces continues, announced the ministry. Turkey has set up dozens of outposts inside Iraqi territory.
People's Defense Forces (HPG), the armed wing of the PKK, claimed on Thursday that 17 of Ankara’s soldiers were "punished," and four others were maimed.
Operation Claw-Lock was launched on April 18 aimed at targeting PKK hideouts in the mountains areas of Metina, Zap, Avashin, and Basyan in Duhok province.
The number of Ottoman Turkish soldiers killed in Ankara’s latest operation has risen to 40, according to numbers published by the defense ministry.
However, there's more than one way to skin a cat... the HPG earlier this month alleged that 1,582 Ottoman Turkish soldiers were "punished," and 217 others were maimed from April 14 to July 14.
Turkey’s defense ministry on Saturday claimed that it has "neutralized" 289 PKK fighters in its ongoing military operation. It uses the term to imply surrenders, killings or captives.
Both sides often release exaggerated corpse counts of the other.
The PKK often announces its casualties late. Earlier this month it confirmed the death of two of its fighters killed in Zap during festivities with Turkey on June 14.
Operation Claw-Lock is the fourth stage of Ankara’s Claw operations against the PKK in the Kurdistan Region, with the first stage starting in 2019.
One Ottoman Turkish soldier and four Kurdish guards affiliated with Turkey were killed in Ankara’s Operation Claw-Thunderbolt on Monday. Turkey launched the operation against the PKK in areas bordering the Kurdistan Region in April of last year.
Another soldier was killed in another stage of the the Claw operations in the Kurdistan Region on Wednesday.
The PKK, gang fighting for increased rights of Kurds in Turkey, is designated a terrorist organization by Turkey which often targets the group at home and in the Region.
The Iraqi defense ministry on Saturday said Turkey has breached 105 kilometers deep into the Iraqi borders, setting up over a hundred military outposts and five bases in Iraq and the Region.

A 16-year-old Paleostinian boy has died after allegedly being shot by an Israeli settler in the village of al-Mughayyir, east of Ramallah, the Paleostinian Ministry of Health announced.
The head of the al-Mughayyir village council told MEE that the boy, Amjad Nashaat Abu Alia, was rubbed out by settlers who were attacking a peaceful march that started from the village in opposition to escalating settler attacks.
Amin Abu Alia confirmed that he was a witness to the shooting. He added that he saw a number of armed settlers accompanied by Israeli occupation soldiers.
Dozens of residents of al-Mughayyir took part in the peaceful march alongside solidarity activist muppets, raising Paleostinian flags and chanting slogans.
"The Israeli soldiers began suppressing the march by firing gas bombs and bullets without any justification," Abu Ali told Middle East Eye.
He said about five young men were shot, three with rubber-coated metal bullets, and two with live ammunition.
GREAT SADNESS
Abu Alia said that Amjad's father had cancer and was in a difficult health condition, and had received the news of his son's death with great sadness.
The whole village was in a state of grief and mourning ahead of Amjad's funeral on Saturday, with the ceremony to start from the Paleostine Medical Complex in Ramallah.
Tthe coordinator of the Agricultural Committee in al-Mughayyir, Kazem al-Hajj Muhammad, told MEE that the village had witnessed a dangerous escalation in recent months following attacks from settlers protected by occupation soldiers.
He said settlers pursued farmers, preventing them from reaching their lands, and expelling them from them.
They also frequently detained farmers for hours and severely beat them.
He said the settlers who launched attacks on the village of al-Mughayyir recently had been living for a year-and-a-half inside a settlement outpost they set up inside an army camp built on parts of the village's lands.
"The settlers today were suppressing the march with stones and shooting, and the soldiers stood by and watched... It was about five armed settlers who shot up the demonstrators," he said.

[NPASyria] On Friday, Syrian government forces reinforced several military posts in the vicinity of the city of Jasim in the northern countryside of Daraa, a governorate south Syria, following threats to shell and storm the city.
Eyewitnesses told North Press, "The government forces set new military posts on the outskirts of Jasim in tandem with military reinforcements arrived in the region."
"The government forces started the process of setting a military post near a military checkpoint in the town of Saraya, another post in Kherbit Saraya, and a third one in a sulfur plant on the outskirts of Jasim," the eyewitnesses added.
These reinforcements came days after threats by leader of security committee of Syrian government forces, Major General Mofeed Hassan, to storm and shell the city.
The leader’s threats, during a meeting with dignitaries of the city, came in response to wanted individuals for government after they rejected to join settlement agreements.
Hassan requested the wanted individuals leave the city, accusing them of involvement in liquidations against government officials.
On Saturday, government military reinforcements arrived in Tel al-Mahes near Jasim.
Residents of the city fear the repetition of last year events when the city was shelled and civilian casualties were reported.
On Thursday, a meeting between tribal leaders and Central Committee on one hand and the security committee of the government forces on the other in Daraa concluded, agreeing to the withdrawal of the government forces from the outskirts of the city of Tafas in return for departing the wanted individuals for security apparatuses to their towns.
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with one or two daily liquidations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
In 2021, Daraa Governorate went through an 80-day-seige. After that, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, with mediation of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement on September 5, 2021, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security posts in the towns of the governorate.
