"Based on a specific input of police about the presence of (militants) in village Amshipora, Shopian, a joint operation was launch during the late night of 24/25-02-2022," IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said in a statement.
"After a cluster of houses were taken into cordon, following the drill civilians were evacuated to safety. Thereafter, house to house searches were started in the wee hours to locate the hiding murderous Moslems, " he said.
As per IGP Kashmir, the murderous Moslems "resorted to indiscriminate firing" in which one civilian namely Shakeel Ahmed Khan son of Abdul Rahim Khan resident of Amshipora was seriously maimed and while being evacuated for treatment succumbed to the injuries.
The fire by the murderous Moslems, the IGP said, was "retaliated effectively" in which both murderous Moslems were killed.
The slain have been identified as Muzamil Ahmad Mir son of Ab Hameed Mir resident of Chatripora, Shopian and Shariq Ayoob son of Mohd Ayoob Wagay resident of Bonpora, Amshipora, Shopian.
Muzamil, police said, was involved in several militancy cases.
"Incriminating materials including Arms ( one AK 56 rifle and one pistol) and ammunitions were also recovered, police said.

News agency KNO quoted a police front man as saying that the accused identified as Rashid Ahmad Peer, son of Abdul Ahad Peer of Tekipora, Lolab and Adil Hussain Shah, son of Ghulam Muhammad Shah of Shat Muqam, Lolab were apprehended by Kupwara Police along with 28 RR in a joint operation in Lolab.
"Both the individuals were indulged in anti-national activities and were planning to join turban ranks, in order to revive militancy in the area besides providing active support to turbans, " police said.
"Both the individuals came under observation of the security forces when they were found suspicious in their movement and pro-militancy activity on social media platform, " it added.
"Based on the inputs developed by Police, the duo was apprehended and put to sustained questioning. During the course of investigation, incriminating material including posters, photographs, videos and contents of conversation with active hard boyz and turban handlers from across were recovered from the mobile phones of both the individuals."
A case under FIR number 07/2022, under relevant sections has been registered at Police Station Sogam against them & the investigation in the case is under progress, police said, adding that the "timely joint efforts of security forces resulted in averting major incident in the area, which has witnessed peace for the past two three years".

Unknown individuals attacked, yesterday, a convoy of the Iranian-backed militias in Syria’s desert, killing 7 members, including high-ranking officers, and wounding 4 others.
“ISIS militants targeted a military convoy of the Quds Force with shells and heavy weapons which led to the explosion of the military vehicle,” a military source of the Iranian-backed Quds Force said.
The source, who preferred not to be named, added that the attack resulted in the killing of 7 members, including the brigadier general, Mahmoud Shihabi and lieutenant Ali Reyya, in addition to the injury of 4 others. All of them are of Syrian nationality.
