[FoxBusinessNews] Treasury plans to move money from some states, localities to those with backlogs of requests
The Treasury Department is redirecting rental-assistance money from some states and localities that haven’t used the bulk of their funds to others facing backlogs of aid requests, according to administration officials.
The officials said they couldn’t specify which jurisdictions would lose and gain funds. But they said those with large amounts of unused funds include rural states—like Montana and North Dakota—while local officials in several more populous states—like New York and Texas—are expected to exhaust their rental-assistance money over the coming week and months.
Officials said an initial reallocation, set to be unveiled in early December, could exceed $800 million and come at the request of states and localities that acknowledge they have more money than they can spend. Much of that money may be moved within states, rather than from one state to another—for instance, from a state-run program to a city-run program, or vice versa.
By the end of the year, the administration expects as much as $20 billion of the $47 billion in rental-assistance funding Congress authorized to be spent. An additional $5 billion to $10 billion will be committed to a specific tenant or landlord but not yet distributed.
"There is less unspent money today than there was six months ago, but we’re still committed to make sure that the money that is unspent gets reallocated as quickly as possible," said Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo. "There is a need to make sure that we get this money to tenants who need it."
The rental-assistance program got off to a slow start this year. Though just a fraction of the aid was distributed before a national eviction moratorium ended this summer, more money is now finding its way to tenants and landlords.
While the program is overseen by the Treasury Department, it relies on a patchwork of more than 450 state, county, and municipal governments and charitable organizations to distribute the aid, which can be used to cover back rent, future rent, and utilities.
It took states and localities months to build new programs from scratch, hire staff, and craft rules for how the money should be distributed. Often, tenants and landlords didn’t know money was available, and many of those who applied had to contend with cumbersome applications and requests for documentation. Treasury officials issued guidance to ease the paperwork burden and boost the flow of money to renters and landlords.
The first $25 billion in the rental-assistance program was included in a pandemic aid package signed by then-President Donald Trump in December. Congress appropriated another $21.6 billion in March.
Treasury won’t begin to reallocate money from the second, $21.6 billion pot of money until March.

[PJMEDIA] Just in time for Christmas! New York’s governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for the Empire State after the news that the Omicron variant appeared in South Africa, even though there are no cases of it reported in New York State.
The first line of Hochul’s blurb regarding her state-of-emergency declaration reads, "Governor Kathy Hochul today announced urgent action to boost hospital capacity and address staffing shortages ahead of potential spikes in COVID-19 cases this upcoming winter."
Maybe firing all those heroes filthy, unvaccinated healthcare workers two months ago wasn’t such a good idea. In fact, it was downright idiotic. It makes me wonder if she got her COVID acumen from reading Cuomo’s "COVID leadership" book. Or perhaps she just wants to beat Cuomo’s serial-killer toll of 15,000 dead New Yorkers.
Hochul seems a bit too eager to flex her totalitarian muscle. If there are no Omicron cases, why worry? In her blurb, she claims that "It’s coming" and mentions "warning signs" of COVID spikes. New York is currently averaging 27 China flu deaths per day. Florida is averaging zero. Again, lockdowns don’t work.
Hochul’s declaration means that the Department of Health will have the authority to limit the number of non-essential health-related procedures in hospitals with limited bed capacity, which is 10% or less. Grandma’s new hip is going to have to wait. Hochul claims that the order will also expand hospital capacity rates and allow New York to acquire anti-COVID supplies faster.
The state of emergency will begin Dec. 3, 2021, and will last thru Jan. 15, 2022, when it will be re-assessed.
Hochul’s blurb goes on to tout mask mandates and vaccinations for kids. It pushes people to get fully vaccinated and then get the booster (even though Israel found out that 50% of their new COVID cases were people who were fully vaccinated). It also claims that her administration is...ready...this is hilarious...looking to "combat vaccine misinformation campaigns." Seriously, that’s part of the blurb.

A book by a journalist following the campaign asked Hillary's staff about this. They said that their focus groups showed that when Hillary made a personal appearance, her votes went down. Her time was better spent shmoozing with donors and reporters.

"Truly, the impact of this mandate reaches far beyond COVID," Schelp wrote. "CMS seeks to overtake an area of traditional state authority by imposing an unprecedented demand to federally dictate the private medical decisions of millions of Americans. Such action challenges traditional notions of federalism."
Schelp also labeled the mandate "arbitrary and capricious," arguing that CMS "lacks evidence showing that vaccination status has a direct impact on spreading COVID" in the covered health care facilities; the agency has primarily pointed to data from long-term care facilities in its defense.
"No one questions that protecting patients and health care workers from contracting COVID is a laudable objective," he wrote. "But the court cannot, in good faith, allow CMS to enact an unprecedented mandate that lacks a 'rational connection between the facts found and the choice made.'"

[Blaze] Wisconsin U.S. Sens Tammy Baldwin (D) and Ron Johnson (R) released a joint statement Saturday asking outside groups to stop exploiting the Waukesha massacre for political purposes.
"It has come to our attention that outside individuals or groups may attempt to exploit the tragedy that occurred last Sunday in Waukesha for their own political purposes," the letter started. "As the U.S. Senators representing Wisconsin, one from each political party, we are asking anyone considering such action to cease and desist."
According to media reports, the statement was crafted because some conservative pundits blasted CNN, MSNBC, and other left-leaning media outlets for downplaying the story and/or rapidly moving on from it.
The bipartisan statement is as pointless as asking infamous bank robber John Dillinger to stop using a Colt .32 pistol. The style of gun didn’t make Dillinger an unrepentant criminal. His immorality did. America’s fight for political power has descended to a seemingly unprecedented level of immorality. Ambitious politicians quickly turn human tragedy into political capital.
I get the reluctance of the gatekeepers to politicize the Waukesha massacre. I understand Tammy Baldwin’s motivation, too. She’s a Democrat. Her party’s entire strategy is predicated on racial deception, hypocrisy, and division.
