AAaaaah ! I'm on Rantburg ....
Kathleen Hughes born Elizabeth Margaret von Gerkan November 14, 1928 is an American actress.
Hughes' uncle, F. Hugh Herbert, was a playwright who authored Kiss and Tell and The Moon Is Blue. Her desire to act was inspired by a film she saw featuring Donald O'Connor, which gave her the idea that "acting looked like fun."
Hughes was discovered in a Little Theater production in 1948. Signed to a seven-year contract with 20th Century Fox, she made 14 films for the studio. She appeared in five motion pictures for Universal Studios, including the cult film It Came From Outer Space. Released on May 27, 1953, the sci-fi feature was adapted from the writing of Ray Bradbury (Socialist). It was Universal's first entry into the 3D-film medium. Hughes co-starred with Edward G. Robinson in a 1953 crime drama, The Glass Web, and opposite Rock Hudson in an adventure film that year, The Golden Blade.

I have seen this in the past. I worked in DC and surrounding areas in riot years and it was the youth in this boys age range that were the most antagonistic. They came right at you. Absolutely no hesitation.

They’ve been saying so almost every day since they took Kabul, Richard. I just haven't been posting the articles, as they add no new information.
After the attack on Kabul Airport, Dron66046 said ISIS-K hires out for terrorist theater as well as doing their own projects, which may be the reason the Talibs thus far have been so sanguine. In addition to the usual chest beating of a new conqueror who is still fighting unreported rear guard actions in the provinces. We haven’t heard a peep in ages from Panjshir, for instance...
[LIBYAREVIEW] On Wednesday, the Libyan Public Prosecution remanded a member of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Abulgasem Shengheer, and two others in jug pending further investigations. In a statement, the Prosecution announced that it is conducting investigations into Shengheer, the Director of the Occupational Safety, Security, and Health Department of Akakus Oil, and an employee in charge of the Administrative Affairs Unit, over charges of obtaining illegal benefits, causing serious harm to public money, and abusing power.
The detainees were also charged with falsifying documents for personal gain.
Last week, the NOC condemned the "unlawful" arrest of Shengheer, who was stopped at Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... ’s Mitiga Airport while returning from abroad with his family.
"Shengheer was arrested in an arbitrary and inappropriate manner that does not rise to the level of responsibility in dealing with a public and national figure," it said in a statement on Saturday.
"A systematic war is being waged by a coalition of militias, smugglers, corrupt figures or politicians, ideologies and stakeholders, against the NOC in order to blackmail, infiltrate, politicize and redirect it from the neutral position it has maintained over the past years for the benefit all Libyans," the statement added.
The NOC called on the Presidential Council, the Government of National Unity (GNU), and the Attorney General to take all legal measures and release Shengheer.
It also called on the UN, Amnesia Amnesty International, and human rights When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much... organizations to immediately intervene and secure his release. It stated that it would hold the kidnappers responsible for his safe return.
The Corporation noted "its deep concern about such repeated militia actions that follow the policy of arbitrary and unofficial arrest of public figures, which may have serious repercussions on the conduct of operations in the oil sector."

[An Nahar] An anti-terrorism raid in Tunisia uncovered a tunnel being dug in the vicinity of the French ambassador's residence from a house frequented by a known turban, the Interior Ministry said Wednesday. The ministry's statement did not indicate the tunnel's purpose or whether the ambassador's residence was a target.
It said anti-terrorism officials and prosecutors were investigating.
A tip-off alerted security services to suspicious activity at the house in La Marsa, a coastal suburb of the Tunisian capital, Tunis, where the French ambassador also lives, the Interior Ministry said.
A subsequent raid uncovered the tunneling. The ministry statement didn't say how close the house is to the French ambassador's residence.
A known turban is among people who frequented the house that was raided, the ministry said. It did not say if there were any arrests.
The French Embassy said it had no comment. The street outside the ambassador's residence was calm Wednesday morning.

[An Nahar] Algeria said Wednesday three truck drivers had been killed in a bombing as they drove from Mauritania, an attack Algiers blamed on neighboring Morocco, the official APS news agency said. The reported strike comes as tensions ratchet up between Algeria and Morocco, particularly over the contested desert region of the Western Sahara.
"Three Algerians were assassinated... in a barbaric strike on their trucks," Algeria's presidency said in a statement, quoted by APS.
It reported they had been travelling between the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott and the Algerian city of Ouargla.
"Several factors indicate that the Moroccan occupation forces in the Western Sahara carried out this cowardly liquidation with a sophisticated weapon," the statement added.
The Western Sahara is 80 percent controlled by Morocco, which sees the former Spanish colony as an integral part of its own territory.
But its regional arch-rival Algeria has long hosted and supported the Polisario Front, which seeks full independence there.
The reported killings took place on Monday, but few details had emerged, and there had been no immediate comment from Rabat or Algiers.
The Algerian statement did not specify the exact location where the bombardment took place.
But Akram Kharief, editor of Algerian website Mena Defense, said that "the Algerian truckers were killed in Bir Lahlou", on a highway through the part of the Western Sahara controlled by the Polisario Front.
The Polisario in November declared a three-decade ceasefire "null and void" after Moroccan forces broke up a blockade of a highway into Mauritania, that the independence movement said was built in violation of a 1991 truce.

[An Nahar] The Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... said Wednesday it has killed 145 Iran's Houthi sock puppets ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him... s in 24 hours in air raids near Marib, the final northern stronghold of pro-government forces.
The coalition, which backs Yemen's internationally recognized government, has reported near-daily strikes over the past three weeks that it claims have now inflicted more than 2,000 lives among the Iran-backed Houthis.
But the murderous Moslems, who have for months waged an offensive against the government stronghold, rarely comment on losses, and AFP can not independently verify the tolls.
"Eighteen military vehicles have been destroyed and 145" murderous Moslems killed in the latest 24 hours, the Saudi-led coalition said in a statement published by Saudi Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century... 's official SPA press agency.
The rebels were killed in raids in the Sirwah district, east of Marib city, it added.
The coalition has since October 11 issued near-daily reports of bombing around Marib, saying it has killed a total of around 2,450 murderous Moslems in the area.
The Huthis began a major push to seize the city in February and, after a lull, they renewed their offensive in September.
A pro-government military official had told AFP on Tuesday that the rebels have made "new advances amid ongoing festivities with pro-government troops".
Another loyalist official confirmed the murderous Moslems were edging closer to the city.
The Huthis said Tuesday they were on the outskirts of the city.
Yemen's civil war began in 2014 when the Huthis seized the capital Sanaa, prompting Saudi-led forces to intervene to prop up the government the following year.
Tens of thousands of people have died and millions have been displaced in what the United Nations ...the Oyster Bay money pit... calls the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
[IsraelTimes] Footage has gone viral in the past 24 hours of Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First ...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. [Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish-backed groups in northern Syria have weaponised water by building dams on a river that serves as a lifeline for communities living downstream in Kurdish-dominated areas, a report alleged Wednesday said.
New research conducted by Dutch peace-building organization PAX shows that the Syrian National Army (SNA) built three dams that cut off the vital Khabour river.
The SNA is a military group armed and funded by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... present in an area of northern Syria contiguous to the semi-autonomous northeastern region run by the Kurdish-majority Syrian Democratic Forces.
The militia that forms the SDF's backbone is considered a terrorist organization by the Ottoman Turkish government, whose military presence in northern Syria is at least partly aimed at preventing any resurgence of Kurdish separatism.
The PAX research, which includes field work and satellite imagery analysis, found that the SNA's blocking of a vital river during the region's driest summer on record was "a clear-cut example of using water as weapon of war."
It said that the building of the dams compounded the effects of a severe drought.
"The impact of the extreme heat was magnified by very limited rainfall, which meant agricultural communities had less water than ever at their time of greatest need," it said.
The imagery published by PAX shows the three dams, the first of which was completed on May 22 this year.
The Khabour is a 320-kilometre-long (200 miles) tributary of the Euphrates whose source is in Turkey but runs across much of northeastern Syria and through Hasakeh, one of the main cities in the Kurdish region.
The research estimated that thousands of households were deprived of access to water due to the building of the dams, noting that this amounted to a clear violation of international humanitarian law.
"This could be a calculated measure employed by the SNA with the intention of starving the civilian population and/or bringing about their forced displacement as a method of warfare," it said.
In its recommendations, PAX called on the international community to urge Turkey to ensure that all civilians have access to the Khabour's water.

[An Nahar] Israeli air strikes hit positions held by the Syrian government and its pro-Iranian allies near Damascus overnight, a war monitor said on Wednesday. It was the second Israeli attack to target areas near the capital in four days.
Syrian state news agency SANA confirmed the raids and said they caused only material damage.
"The Israeli enemy launched an aerial aggression with a number of missiles," the news agency quoted a military source as saying, naming the targeted area as Zakia.
The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the targets were army positions and arms depots belonging to Iran-backed militias.
Israel carries out raids on Syria mostly during nighttime. Wednesday's raid occurred shortly after midnight, Syria's military said.
There has been an increase in reported Israel attacks in recent weeks.
Similar strikes last week killed at least five militiamen, the Observatory said.
Israel has staged hundreds of strikes on Iran-linked military targets in Syria over the years but rarely acknowledges or discusses such operations.
Israel has acknowledged, however, that it is targeting bases of Iran-allied groups, such as Hizbullah ...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory... It is going after arms shipments believed to be bound for the group. Hizbullah is fighting on the side of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Despoiler of Deraa... 's forces in the civil war.
Israel says Iranian presence on its northern frontier is a red line, and it has repeatedly struck what it has described as Iran-linked facilities and weapons convoys destined for Hizbullah.

In remarks to Kuwait’s al-Anbaa newspaper published Wednesday, the sources said the diplomatic crisis sparked by Information Minister George Kordahi’s remarks has "surpassed Kordahi to affect the entire Lebanese situation."
"President Michel Aoun ...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah... and Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri ...Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, head of the Amal Shiite party aligned with Hezbollah, a not very subtle sock puppet of the Medes and Persians... have agreed to this exit, but the approval of Hizbullah ...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Seems to have to do with this story:
[SHAFAQ] Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... seized a Vietnamese-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman last month and still holds the vessel off Bandar Abbas, two U.S. officials told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Wednesday. One of the officials said paramilitary Iranian Revolutionary Guard troops took control of the MV Southys on Oct. 24 at gunpoint. U.S. forces had monitored the seizure, but ultimately didn't take action as the vessel went into Iranian waters.
A motive for the seizure remains unclear. Officials in Vietnam could not be immediately reached for comment. Ship-tracking data analyzed by the AP from MarineTraffic.com showed the vessel still off Bandar Abbas on Tuesday.
The two U.S. officials spoke on condition of anonymity as the information had yet to be made public amid ongoing attempts to restart talks in Vienna with Iran over its tattered nuclear deal.
The officials spoke to AP after Iranian state television ... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
offered a series of contradictory reports earlier Wednesday about a confrontation between the Guard and the U.S. Navy's Mideast-based 5th Fleet. It described the incident as also happening in the Gulf of Oman, with the U.S. Navy detaining the vessel and the Guard bringing it back to the Islamic Theocratic Republic.
The U.S. officials dismissed Iran's version of events. Tehran also did not provide details of the ship's name, nor any explanation of why the Navy targeted it. Iran's mission to the United Nations ...the Oyster Bay money pit... did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
State TV later released footage showing an Iranian surveillance drone monitoring a hulking red tanker in the Gulf of Oman. Iranian commandos then rappelled onto the boat from a helicopter as small speedboats surrounded the vessel.
The Gulf of Oman sits near the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf through which a fifth of all traded oil passes.
About a year after then-President Donald Trump ...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party... withdrew the U.S. from Iran’s nuclear deal in 2018 and imposed crushing sanctions, the waters of the Gulf of Oman have witnessed a series of explosions and hijackings. The U.S. Navy has accused Iran of conducting limpet mining of vessels and more recently attacking another tanker with a drone, killing a Briton and a Romanian on board.
While Iran denies carrying out the attacks, it comes amid a wider shadow war that has roiled the region.
