[AlAhram] The Taliban ...Arabic for students... arrested four Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... members and seized their documents and weapons north of the Afghan capital, the group's chief front man said Wednesday.
Zabihullah Mujahid said the operation was carried out Tuesday night by special unit forces in the Pashai area of Pagham district in Kabul province. He provided no additional details.
The arrests came as the Taliban leadership, which assumed control of the country after seizing the capital on Aug. 15, grapples with a growing security threat from the group known as Islamic State Khorasan, an IS affiliate. The holy warrior group has ramped up attacks since the Taliban consolidated power following the U.S. exit. It has grabbed credit for attacks including two deadly bombings in the capital in the last month.
IS claimed it targeted Tuesday night a vehicle carrying Taliban members with an bomb in District 1 in Kunar province ... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country..... , northeast of the capital, killing and wounding those onboard. It said a Taliban reinforcement patrol rushed to the area to help but IS fighters clashed with them, killing and wounding ``many.''
IS re-emerged in Afghanistan in 2020 after being weakened by a heavy U.S. bombing campaign directed against them in the eastern part of the country in 2019. The group grabbed credit for Sunday's bombing at Kabul's Eid Gah Mosque which killed five civilians. It has also grabbed credit for the horrific bombing on Aug. 26 that killed more than 169 Afghans and 13 U.S. military personnel outside the Kabul airport.
The Taliban have since launched many raids to root out IS cells.
Separately, two witnesses and a hospital official said two Taliban members were shot and killed and three civilians were maimed when unknown button menshot up a Taliban patrol in a vegetable market Wednesday morning in the northeastern city of Jalalabad. The hospital official said the hospital received two dead bodies and two maimed men.
They spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the subject.
Jalalabad has emerged as a flashpoint in the rivalry between the Taliban and IS, with numerous attacks taking place there since the takeover.
[Garowe] Somalia-based al-Shabaab ...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all ofwhich have enough problems without them... turbans on Tuesday executed two people in Lower Jubba, in the latest killings targeted people believed to be against their divisive ...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled... agenda aimed at taking over the Horn of Africa nation.
The execution took place at Jamame District in Lower Jubba, where the turbans have almost absolute control. The two men, reports indicate, were accused by the turbans of being sorcerers, and or, serving in government, a claim that could not be established.
The two, Mohammed Mowlid Aden and Abdullahi Hassan Omar, were accused of being government soldiers and sorcerers respectively by the al-Qaeda linked group. Witnesses say they were executed in front of at least 100 locals from the region.
According to reports, both men have lived in Jamame, a farming community some 70 km [43 miles] north of Kismayo ...a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia, at the extreme southern end of the country (always assuming Somalia can be called a country). It is the commercial capital of the autonomous Jubaland region.... , the interim administrative capital of Jubaland. Kismayo was one time an al-Shabaab stronghold before being liberated by AMISOM troops in 2012.
This is not an isolated incident given that al-Shabaab has in the past executed several men in the past, either by beheading or firing squad, in districts across the south and central Somalia where it has absolute control.
For almost 14 years, both the Somali National Army [SNA] and AMISOM troops have been fighting to dislodge the Death Eater insurgency group from parts of Somalia's fertile areas. The group uses strategic regions to extort taxes from locals.
Usually, al-Shabaab does not give victims access to their legal counsels and instead, it tries and executes them without being heard. It's this strategy that has led to the death of dozens of people who are condemned unheard.
[DW] As many as 16 soldiers have been killed and 10 others injured in an attack in central Mali involving an improvised bomb (IED), health and security sources said on Wednesday.
The attack, near the village of Bodio in the Mopti region, comes as the Sahel country continues efforts to suppress a nine-year Islamist insurgency. The rebellion has cost the lives of thousands of soldiers and civilians since it broke out in the country's north in 2012.
Mali's army had earlier said five soldiers had been killed and eight maimed, but local officials raised it, saying dozens of jihadis had also been killed.
In its statement, the army said soldiers had fought off a "complex IED attack."
Central Mali has become a main arena for violence amid the insurgency, which has raged on despite the presence of French and UN troops. The rebellion has also spread to neighboring Burkina Faso ...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other... and Niger, with the triborder area between these countries, known as the Liptako Gourma region, the focal point of the fighting.
[AlAhram] Tunisian security forces on Wednesday seized broadcasting equipment used by an unlicensed television station close to the Islamist-inspired Ennahdha party, the country's media authority said.
Zitouna TV, considered close to Ennahdha and its ally al-Karama, both of which oppose a July power grab by President Kais Saied, had been operating illegally, the Independent High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HAICA) said.
"Broadcasting equipment was confiscated today from the Zitouna channel following a decision," HAICA president Nouri Lajmi told AFP.
"Zitouna has been broadcasting illegally for years and has not received a broadcasting licence as it has not respected the legal framework."
Nasreddine bin Hammouda, head of production at the Zitouna Network that produces programmes for Zitouna TV and other channels, said "security forces accompanied by members of the HAICA raided the headquarters of Zitouna Network... and began confiscating equipment".
"Nobody told us it was forbidden to work with Zitouna TV," he said.
The channel was still on air, he added.
Saied in July suspended parliament, sacked the Ennahdha-supported government of Hichem Mechichi and removed MPs' immunity following months of growing public anger over an ongoing economic crisis and failings in managing the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague) ...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. Hichem El-Senoussi, a member of HAICA, told AFP that decisions had been taken a month ago against Zitouna TV and other channels that had "failed to comply with orders to stop broadcasting".
Zitouna TV started broadcasting in 2012, following the fall of longtime dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in an uprising the previous year.
In 2015, some of its equipment was seized but it continued operating.
El-Senoussi said the HAICA had repeatedly ordered the channel to close, but that it had been "supported by political actors including Ennahdha", preventing the orders from being implemented.
Tunisian authorities on Sunday arrested Zitouna TV presenter Amer Ayad on charges of "plotting against state security", his lawyer said, along with an al-Karama MP who appeared on Ayad's show and criticised Saied's moves.
It was the latest detention of a politician after Saied lifted their immunity.
Military justice arrested al-Karama's head Seifeddine Makhlouf on September 22 for "undermining the dignity of the army", his lawyer said at the time.
[AlAhram] The migrants colonists likely drowned. The U.N. migration agency has said that more than 1,100 migrants colonists have been reported dead or presumed dead in numerous boat mishaps and shipwrecks off Libya's coast so far this year.
At least 17 bodies, likely of Europe-bound migrants colonists, have washed ashore in western Libya, the Libyan Red Islamic Thingy said as authorities began to vaccinate migrants colonists in the North African country on Wednesday against the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague) ...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. Oil-rich Libya is largely governed by local militias, many of which profit from the trafficking. Rights groups say migrants colonists traversing Libya have been tortured, raped and subjected to forced labor at the hands of traffickers and inside official detention centers.
U.N.-commissioned Sherlocks found that the practice of arbitrary disappearances and violence against migrants colonists inside Libyan prisons could amount to crimes against humanity.
Meanwhile, ...back at the fist fight, Jake ducked another roundhouse, then parried with his left, then with his right, finally with his chin... Libyan health authorities started to vaccinate migrants colonists in the country against the coronavirus, in cooperation with the U.N. migration agency. The campaign kicked off at a health facility in Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... , where several migrants colonists got their first shot of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine.
A waste of effort, only marginally better than saline solution.
Federico Soda, the head of the International Organization for Migration in Libya, was present at Wednesday's kickoff of the vaccination drive. ``This is a health issue for the migrants colonists that we are extremely concerned about,`` he said. ``But it's also a public health issue ... to overcome the pandemic.''
It was not immediately clear how the authorities would go about vaccinating thousands of migrants colonists held in detention centers across Libya. Tens of thousands of others live openly in Libyan cities and towns.
Libya has reported more than 34,400 cases of COVID-19 and 4,720 deaths, but the tally is likely much higher in part due to limited testing as in other impoverished countries.
[IsraelTimes] Cybereason firm says MalKamak group used Dropbox to issue commands to its Trojan; findings show similarities to previous known Iran-backed hacks.
Security researchers on Wednesday published a report tying cyberattacks on a number of aerospace and telecommunications companies, mainly in the Middle East, to Iranian state-sponsored groups.
MalKamak, a cyberespionage group believed to be tied to other known Iranian government-sponsored groups such as Chafer APT (also known as APT39 or Remix Kitten), was responsible for the recent hack attack, US-Israeli cybersecurity firm Cybereason reported.
The company did not name specific victims, but said they mainly included a "select few" companies in the Middle East, with others in the US, Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... and Russia. Though Israel was not mentioned, Israel’s Channel 12 news reported that Israeli companies were among the list of targets in the Middle East, without providing a source or details.
According to Cybereason, the end goal of the hack was the theft of information about their infrastructure, technology, and critical assets.
The Iranian group used a remote access Trojan called ShellClient, which had been in use since at least 2018, to obtain information from the companies. Cybereason said the threat was still active as of September.
The Trojan itself is controlled via the Dropbox file-sharing platform, which apparently made it difficult to detect.
Commands are sent to the Trojan, which is disguised as a legitimate Microsoft program, to first set it up and identify system information and what antivirus software is installed.
Then, still using Dropbox, the hackers send another set of commands to change the Trojan into a persistent program on the victim’s computer, with administrator privileges.
Cybereason said its team compared its observations with previous campaigns that were attributed to known Iranian actors, "and was able to point out some interesting similarities between ShellClient and previously reported Iranian malware and threat actors."
Numerous suspected Iranian cyberattacks on Israel were reported in recent years, including one that targeted its water infrastructure in 2020.

[DW] Eight women with ties to the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... have been brought back to Germany and held in jug. More than 20 children have also returned, but it is "the mothers who will have to answer for their acts," Heiko Maas said.
Germany's Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said late Wednesday that eight women who had joined the so-called Islamic State (IS) terror group have been repatriated from Syria.
Twenty-three children had also been brought back to Germany.
Maas said: "The children are not responsible for their situation... the mothers will have to answer for their acts."
AUTHORITIES WILL INVESTIGATE REPATRIATED WOMEN
The aircraft carrying the women and kiddies landed at Frankfurt International Airport late Wednesday night.
Upon arrival the women were taken into custody and are under criminal investigation.
Germany had arranged the repatriation along with Denmark, which received three women and 14 children as part of the mission, according to Maas.
The foreign minister said that he was "happy" to have brought the people back to Germany, especially the children who he said "were in particular need of protection."
REPATRIATED GROUP HAD BEEN HELD IN NORTHERN SYRIA
Before returning to Germany the women and kiddies had been held at a detention camp in Roj in northeastern Syria.
Last month it was reported that two children were dying each week in the Roj and al-Hol detention camps. Families of IS fighters were taken to these facilities after the terror group's final stand in in Baghouz, which signaled its collapse.
As IS loses control of its so-called Caliphate, the question on what to do with imported muscle and their families has become more pertinent for governments.
There has been a level of reluctance to accept the return of people who had been involved with the terror group, largely due to concerns around the potential threat they pose and negative public opinion.

[IsraelTimes] Report says hawala network suspected of transferring over $116 million in profits from drug trafficking and other illegal businesses; some of it may have funded bully boy groups. Raids In 25 Cities; 1 Suspect Accused Of al-Nusra ...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ... Front Ties.
German police carried out large-scale raids in 25 cities Wednesday in connection with a suspected money-laundering network alleged to have funneled millions in ill-gotten gains abroad.
Duesseldorf police said the raids, which began in the early hours, involved more than 1,000 officers and took place in the states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Bremen.
Eleven people were arrested, including a 39-year-old Syrian man who is accused of membership in Syria’s Nusra Front holy warrior group, police said.
The raids are part of an investigation into a so-called hawala network widely used in Moslem countries, in which individuals rather than banks act as brokers for money transfers.
Duesseldorf police said the money laundered since 2016 came from a broad range of sources, including criminal activity such as armed robbery and extortion.
"According to initial estimates the volume of transactions in the period under investigation was about 140 million euros ($162 million)," police said in a statement.
German public broadcaster WDR reported that the laundered money included funds from drug trafficking and at least some of it was sent to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... and Syria, where it may have been used to fund bully boy groups.
Police said the suspects are also accused of illegally obtaining benefits. Officers seized valuables such as luxury cars, gold, jewels and high-end watches worth more than 2 million euros.

The Border Security Force jawans shot up the drone. Four to five rounds were fired before the drone disappeared. A high alert was sounded following the incident and search operations are underway.
It may be recalled that a drone was spotted in Pathankot in July. A month before that a drone attack took place on the Indian Air Force base in Jammu.
Drones have become the latest menace for the security agencies. Several drones have been spotted and investigations have shown that Pakistain based operatives have been using drones to send in arms and ammunition into India.
