[NEWS.YAHOO] The once high-flying Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, lawyer Michael Avenatti deserves a "very substantial" prison sentence for trying to extort millions of dollars from Nike Inc, U.S. prosecutors told a judge.
The Wednesday night recommendation came one week after Avenatti's lawyers said their client should spend no more than six months behind bars plus one year of home confinement.
U.S. District Judge Paul Gardephe is scheduled to sentence Avenatti on June 30 in Manhattan.
Probation officers recommend eight years in prison for Avenatti, and prosecutors said federal guidelines recommend more than 11 years.
Lawyers for Avenatti did not immediately respond on Thursday to requests for comment.
Avenatti, 50, became famous in 2018 when he represented adult film actress Stormy Daniels in lawsuits against then-U.S. President Donald Trump ...His ancestors didn't own any slaves... He was convicted of threatening to publicly accuse Nike of secretly paying families of college basketball prospects unless it paid him and another lawyer up to $25 million for a probe and his client, youth basketball coach Gary Franklin, $1.5 million.
Jurors also convicted Avenatti of defrauding Franklin by not telling him he wouldn't settle without a probe.
Avenatti "betrayed his client and sought to enrich himself by weaponizing his public profile," prosecutors said. "This was an egregious abuse of trust."
In letters to Gardephe, Nike maintained that Avenatti's accusations were false, while Franklin said Avenatti's actions "destroyed my reputation in my community."
Avenatti's lawyers have said their client has suffered enough during his "epic fall and public shaming," including three months in a Manhattan jail and ridicule by Trump and the former president's media supporters.
They also said a recurrence was impossible because Avenatti would never again practice law.
Avenatti was convicted in February 2020.
He still faces two trials in California on charges he stole millions of dollars from clients and committed tax and bank fraud, and another trial in Manhattan for allegedly defrauding Daniels out of money from a book contract.
Avenatti has pleaded not guilty "Wudn't me." to all charges.

I think claw back every cent Nike, UnderArmor, Adidas and all the rest have made and say, "Well, kids, this is the total final amount of reparations. Spend it as you will and understand there will be no more."

[NYPOST] the Socialist paradise of San Francisco ...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964... has become a shoplifter’s paradise — with thieves like the one caught on video looting a Walgreens emboldened by relaxed punishment for the crime as businesses shutter, cops say.
The Walgreens heist, which happened right in front of a security guard, renewed the debate over a controversial city law called Proposition 47.
"What happened in that Walgreens has been going on in that city for quite a while," San Francisco police Lt. Tracy McCray said on Fox News’ "America’s Newsroom" Wednesday.
"I’m used to it," McCray continued. "I mean, we can have a greatest hits compilation of people just walking in and cleaning out the store shelves and security guards, the people who work there, just standing by helplessly because they can’t do anything."
Cops and prosecutors are at odds over Proposition 47, a 2014 referendum that lowered the penalty for stealing goods worth less than $950 from a felony to a misdemeanor.
McCray said the law only emboldens criminals.

Prop 47 is a STATE law not a city law: "California Proposition 47, the Reduced Penalties for Some Crimes Initiative, was on the ballot as an initiated state statute in California on November 4, 2014. It was approved." As best I can tell, it was approved by the California electorate!

So, where are the seniors going to get their meds when the outlets all close down? I'm not worried really, the category includes a lot of old time Donks zombies who pull the vote lever as a lower brain stem function rather than a cognitive front lobe process.

Amazon Prime, assuming they will still deliver to inner urban war zones; -OR- the Blue City Mayors will "nationalize" inner city stores and it will look like the Soviet era with long lines and nothing on the shelves.
[PJMEDIA] Six Seattle coppers are being threatened with termination unless they turn over personal communications in the wake of their visits to Washington, D.C., to attend the Jan 6th Trump rally.
Oh. This isn’t a question of their behavour on the job, but thoughtcrime while on vacation.
The Office of Police Accountability (OPA) has asked for private communications even after the officers were cleared of any wrongdoing associated with the Capitol riot.
Two of the officers posted pictures on social media showing they attended the Trump rally that day. Four more came forward voluntarily to confirm their attendance. Each officer was on vacation, and none were in uniform.
But the investigation that cleared the officers wasn’t enough for the OPA. They carried out a "pro-active investigation" on their own and are demanding the coppers turn over their personal information or face termination.

are demanding the coppers turn over their personal information or face termination. This sort of crap will continue throughout the USA until some police department gets fed up, and gets the nerve to resign en masse and simultaneously.

[Epoch Times] An IRS official denied tax-exempt status to a Texas group that encourages church members to pray for state and national leaders, regardless of their party affiliation, because it benefits "the private interests of the [Republican] Party."
"You do not qualify as an organization described in IRS Section 501(c)(3). You engage in prohibited political campaign intervention," wrote Stephen A. Martin, director of the IRS Office of Exempt Organizations Rulings and Agreements, in a May 18 letter (pdf) to Christians Engaged, the Garland, Texas-based prayer group recognized by Texas officials as tax-exempt.
"The Bible teachings are typically affiliated with the [Republican] party and candidates. This disqualifies you from exemption under IRS Section 501(c)(3)."
Christians Engaged President Bunni Pounds said in a statement issued by the First Liberty Institute: "We just want to encourage more people to vote and participate in the political process. How can anyone be against that?"
First Liberty Institute is appealing Martin’s decision on behalf of Christians Engaged.
"The IRS states in an official letter that Biblical values are exclusively Republican. That might be news to President Joe Biden, who is often described as basing his political ideology on his religious beliefs," First Liberty Institute counsel Lea Patterson said in the statement.

Someone in the office hasn't been paying attention to the SCOTUS rulings this year. Hammering christian churches is becoming a third rail in legal actions.

'Pray for your lesders", Christian or non-christian, is a fundamental statute of the Christian faith. The do called "non-affiliation requirement" of the IRS statutes has actually never been challenged got it's constitutionality on Federal Court per one preacher and if it was to be challenged would not stand up in court (asked Obama's Reverand Wright or the Reverand Jesse Jackson, or the decendents of Reverand Martin Luther King).
[RT] Mayor Lori Lightfoot ...the diminutive and vacuous Heronner da Mare of Chicago. When the corpse count rises she blames the guns, which are banned anyway. A racist to the bone, Lori sez that people with the same skin tone all think alike, not quite getting the implications for a city with a population less than thirty percent black... has deemed racism a "public health crisis" in reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown ...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel... , vowing to allocate nearly $10 million in federal coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague) ...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men... relief money to create "equity zones" around the city and improve her "anti-racist" policies.
Lightfoot announced the new initiative on Thursday, arguing the new health "equity zones" will help to address Chicago’s "legacy of systemic racism." "At almost every single point in our city's history, racism has taken a devastating toll on the health and wellbeing of our residents of color — especially those who are black," the mayor said.
That's why I am declaring racism as a public health crisis and looking forward to doubling down on both ongoing and new collaborations with city officials and community leaders to address the racist policies that have wreaked havoc on our black and Latinx communities.
The move comes days after the city health department issued a report finding that the life expectancy for black residents is shorter by more than 9 years compared to those of other racial groups. It also found a higher prevalence of certain diseases, such as diabetes, in the African-American community.
Aiming to address the "racial life expectancy gap" and "improve anti-racist policies," the city will dole out $9.6 million in federal Covid-19 relief funds to create six "equity zones" around Chicago, selecting a series of healthcare facilities and community organizing groups to lead the charge.
While Lightfoot’s office said the funds will be used to "create community-based stakeholder coalitions" and "improve community and individual wellness," the exact function of the "equity zones" remains unclear. Ayesha Jaco, executive director of West Side United, one of the groups receiving relief dollars, described the project as an "extension" of the city’s Racial Equity Rapid Response Team, established to tackle Covid-19 in "high-risk communities." That included efforts to boost "vaccine confidence" and access, as well as helping residents schedule appointments for immunizations, among other things.

She needs her head examined, really... not functioning rationally and is in denial about the death and violence in "her" city.
Chicagoans, it's your city, formerly a great place to live and visit, isn't it time you recognized the problem, and save it before it is totally gone ?
Take CoVID money away for her delusions, borders on criminal neglect of each and every citizen in Chicago.
Rep. Cori Bush ...a member of the progressive Squad. Born in St. Louis, Bush represents Missouri's 1st congressional district that includes all of the city of St. Louis and a large part of northern St. Louis County. Cori sez America is Racist AF... , indicated that there's more to be done for black Americans than mark Juneteenth, the end of slavery in the U.S., as a federal holiday 'It’s Juneteenth AND reparations. It’s Juneteenth AND end police violence + the War on Drugs,' she tweeted Wednesday night
She also pushed for the end of 'housing + education apartheid' and teaching people the 'truth about white supremacy ...the pernicious doctrine that laws were intended to be obeyed, that society works better when people don't pour shreiking from their places of worship every Friday for a weekend of rioting over insults real or imagined; and that cannibalism, beastiality, incest, murder, theft, rape, and similar activities are bad. A Dead White European (which invalidates his opinion) philosopher once opined that societies thrive when a person's word can be relied upon, and that a society which puts individual happiness first will invariably fail. Strangely enough, other successful societies, such as China, Japan, Korea, and those kinds of places could also be lumped with white supremacist societies, since they push the same values... in our country'
'Black liberation in its totality must be prioritized,' she encouraged
Bush's comments came as the House of Representatives voted to make Juneteenth a federal holiday Wednesday night
14 Republicans voted against June 19th becoming a 'National Independence Day' because they believe it would create 'confusion' with Independence Day
GOP Rep. Thomas Massie said it will 'push Americans to pick one of those two days as their Independence Day based on their racial identity'

Perhaps their are a few dollars left in the 'kitty' to buy you a ticket, back to your ancestral home, you loose your citizenship by the way under the original deal Cori. Are you game ?

A certain DWEM said that "every action has an equal and opposite reaction". If I were an African-American, I'd worry about that. I'd also remember how reconstruction ended with Jim Crow.

Tell you what, we'll give you rep money and you go to Nigeria or Kenya for rest of your life. We in turn will pay said governments a sum and take two of their citizens seeking to improve their lives through working in America. If I'm taking two in return for one, it can't be racism.
An inmate at the DC Jail on Tuesday became the first incarcerated person ever elected to office in the nation’s capital.
Joel Caston was elected on Jun 15 to be the advisory neighborhood commissioner for District 7F07, which includes the correctional facility, a women’s shelter, and a recently-opened luxury apartment building, NBC News reported.
Caston, 44, has been incarcerated for 26 years.
He was locked up at 18 for the murder of 18-year-old Rafiq Washington, whom he was convicted of shooting in the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant in DC, The Washington Post reported.
Caston has spent more than four years of his sentence incarcerated at the DC Jail in the southeast quadrant of the city.
That makes him one of the jail’s longest-tenured inmates, according to The Washington Post.
The DC Jail houses 1,400 male and female inmates.
In July of 2020, DC changed the law to allow incarcerated people in the city to vote, and that brought attention to the fact that the seat on the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) district where the DC Jail was located had been vacant since 2013, The Washington Post reported.
