[PostMillennial] A man arrested in connection to the beating of a Jewish man in Midtown Manhattan was released on bail Thursday, telling prosecutors on Sunday that he would "do it again."
Waseem Awawdeh, 23, was held on $10,000 bail after being accused of beating Joseph Borgen, 29, with crutches, as well as punching, kicking, and pepper-spraying the man, the New York Post reports.
Awawdeh, according to a prosecutor at his Sunday arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court, had reportedly told one of his jailers that "if I could do it again, I would do it again."
Prosecutors say the attack on Borgen, who was walking near Broadway and West 49th Street on his way to a pro-Israel demonstration in Midtown, was unprovoked.
Friends of Awawdeh told the New York Post that he was the one that was attacked first. "They picked somebody that was weak, that was on crutches," one stated.
Awawdeh is facing charges of assault as a hate crime, gang assault, menacing, aggravated harassment as a hate crime and criminal possession of a weapon, police state. Borgen was walking down the street, sporting a kippa at the time, when a man started running after him.
"I turned around to try to figure out what was going on," Borgen said, "and the next thing I knew I was surrounded by a whole crowd of people who proceeded to physically attack me, beat me, kick me, punch me, hit me with crutches, hit me with flag poles."
"I have a concussion," Borgen told the New York Post. "I had an X-ray on my wrist. It’s not broken, but it’s messed up. Every time I move it, it’s in pain, probably sprained. I have bruises all over my body. I have a black eye. My face is banged up. I’m just sore all over my body. They were kicking me in my ribs, my stomach."
Awawdeh's attorney April White-Small of New York County Defenders said that he is enrolled in college and not considered a flight risk. The NYPD has released photos of the four other men wanted in connection to Thursday's attack.
[FoxNews] Texas authorities seized more than a dozen firearms and over 3,500 rounds of ammunition following the pursuit of a suspect who was believed to be heading to Mexico.
The short chase began around 7:30 p.m. Friday after a Texas Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle traveling in Hidalgo County, located on the border with Mexico, for a traffic violation, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said in a press release.
The trooper eventually stopped the vehicle near the city of La Joya and discovered 16 firearms and 3,520 rounds of ammunition inside.
The firearms seized included high-powered fully automatic rifles, shotguns, handguns and a .50 caliber rifle, the DPS said.
The driver was arrested and is facing weapons charges. The DPS said he was believed to be headed to Mexico.
"Everyday (sic), the @TxDPS is on the frontline to secure our border," Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted Saturday in response to the seizure.
Fox News national correspondent Bill Melugin reported that a DPS official said the uinidentified suspect was a Mexican national.
Fox News reached out to the DPS for more details but did not immediately hear back.
The arrest occurred during Operation Lone Star, which was set up earlier this year in response to a surge in migrants and cartel smuggling across the Texas border.
"Thanks to @GovAbbott’s leadership, DPS continues its presence, including air, ground, marine and tactical security assets, along the border to combat the smuggling of people, weapons and drugs into Texas," the DPS tweeted.

Anytime you're in possession of anything illegal it's best to drive in strict obedience of all traffic laws, make sure all of your tail lights, headlights, signal lights and muffler are working, license plates are properly mounted, insurance is paid and the car isn't spewing exhaust in violation of smog laws.

[FoxNews] Fox News Flight Team captured a group of about 40 migrants rushing the southern border into La Joya, Texas on Sunday in an exclusive video.
A single border agent was seen chasing the group of mostly men on foot, some scaling fences and stumbling over narrow streams to escape detainment. Another agent chased the group in his vehicle but was widely outnumbered.
About 15 to 20 of the migrants were taken into custody as the other half assumedly managed to flee. Two migrants on the run appeared to be handcuffed together, giving off the impression of being in custody prior to the chase.
A separate group of 53 migrants decided to turn themselves in to border patrol on Sunday instead of running. The migrants reportedly came from areas of Romania, Venezuela, Guatemala and Honduras.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told Fox News resources are being sent down to the border to provide aid for overwhelmed border agents. The governor expressed his ongoing concern for the looming drug crisis on "Sunday Morning Futures."

He conquered it and set fire to the places in its vicinity which were inhabited by infidels, and demolishing the idol-temples, he established Islam in them, He marched and captured other cities and killed the polluted wretches, destroying the idolatrous and gratifying the Musulmans. After wounding and killing beyond all measure, his hands and those of his friends became cold in counting the value of the plundered property.

[Garowe] The Somali National Army [SNA] continued with an onslaught against the al-Shabaab ...... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... forces of Evil on Saturday, this time targeting the Hiraan region in Central Somalia, where the forces of Evil have been controlling with impunity.
On Saturday morning, state media said, at least six al-Shabaab forces of Evil were killed and several injured during an operation near Bula Burte town in Hiraan, with those injured now firmly in the custody of the military, which will interrogate them once they recuperate.
Hussein Hassan Jodah, SNA Commander in the area told Somali National News Agency that the forces destroyed bases for the terrorist turban group of al-Shabaab in the area during the operation which lasted several hours.
"SNA forces killed 6 al-Shabaab terrorist forces of Evil and injured several others and destroyed its bases near Bula burte town early on Saturday morning, we are still pursuing the operation against them," Jodah said, adding that the operation was still active.
He did not comment on whether there were casualties on SNA forces so far. However, alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk... fatalities or injuries on the military side are usually a closely guarded secret, and only top commanders are allowed to issue such statements.
But al-Shabaab forces of Evil said they attacked SNA and Djiboutian forces’ bases in Bula burte and Jalalaksi towns in the same region with mortar shells mid-last night. The operation by the Somali forces comes hours after the attack from al-Shabaab turbans.
During the holy month of Ramadan, the attacks by al-Shabaab had significantly reduced in Somalia, but in recent weeks, the group seems to have activated its raids across the country. It mostly targets security forces and senior government officials.
The al-Shabaab raids continue even as the African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful... Mission Forces plan an imminent exit from Somalia upon full implementation of the Somali Transition Plan [STP]. It's expected that by December, the SNA forces will take over security responsibilities in Somalia.
Although al-Shabaab still controls large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia, the group has been significantly degraded by the allied military teams. Several towns and villages have been liberated from the al-Shabaab turbans.
