The interviews have included questions about information New York State submitted last year to the Justice Department, which had asked the state for data on Covid-19 cases and deaths in nursing homes, according to the people. False statements in such a submission could constitute a crime.
In some cases, agents traveled to the homes of state health officials to interview them about the data. In others, they spoke to officials by phone, according to the people, who requested anonymity to discuss the active investigation.

[NYPOST] A 2-year-old Kentucky boy died after consuming fentanyl his mother bought using her stimulus check, police said.
Lauren Ashley Baker, 33, admitted to cops in Ludlow Thursday that she got the highly addictive synthetic opioid last weekend in Cincinnati while using funds from her stimulus check, WXIX reported.
After getting the highly addictive drug — up to 100 times more potent than morphine — Baker said she brought it back to Ludlow, where she shared it with two other people, a police report shows.
She then said she "took a shot" of fentanyl sometime Thursday before falling asleep. Her 2-year-old son then ate some of the drug, which was in her purse, as she dozed away, police said.
Baker later awoke to find her purse emptied out and her son not breathing. The boy’s father, who was not identified, called cops when he got home, according to the police report.
Cops found the boy in respiratory arrest when they arrived at the residence.
He was rushed to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He's dead, Jim! Sherlocks said.
A substance believed to be fentanyl was discovered scattered across a bed inside the residence, as well as empty packaging for Narcan, a drug designed to block the effects of opioids, according to the police report.
Baker, who is facing charges of murder, importing fentanyl and trafficking of a controlled substance, remains held without bond at the Kenton County Detention Center, records show.

[NYPOST] A man arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend’s 7-year-old son to death with a hammer in West Virginia told authorities he "just lost it," according to police.Rashad Akeem Thompson, 34, allegedly carried out the deadly assault around 2:45 a.m. Thursday inside an apartment complex in the city of Beckley, authorities said.
When cops arrived, they found a hammer covered in what appeared to be blood on the living room floor, WSAZ reported.
They discovered the young boy’s body lying on the couch with extreme trauma to the left side of his head.
"I just lost it," Thompson allegedly told police, according to the local report.
The criminal complaint states detectives believe he was bludgeoned with the hammer.
The boy’s 24-year-old mother, identified by the outlet as Felicia Brown, was found at a neighbor’s house bleeding heavily from apparent stab wounds to her face, cops said.
She was hospitalized at death's door.
A broken knife was also recovered inside the home, the outlet reported.
Thompson was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, malicious wounding and two counts of domestic battery, authorities said.

The Express could not confirm the dates of this year's Allen & Co. conference, though it typically takes place the first week of July.

Most of the accounting is locked in the private records of two very private businesses: the eponymous investment bank, and Sun Valley Co. For scores of locals, though, from restauranteurs to rafting guides, the conference has provided a reliable boost to mid-summer business.

[APNEWS] Samia Suluhu Hassan made history Friday when she was sworn in as Tanzania’s first female president after the death of her controversial predecessor, John Magufuli, who denied that COVID-19 is a problem in the East African country.
Wearing a hijab and holding up a Koran with her right hand, the 61-year-old Hassan took the oath of office at State House, the government offices in Dar es Salaam, the country’s largest city.
The inauguration was witnessed by Cabinet members, former presidents Ali Hassan Mwinyi and Jakaya Kikwete. The former heads of state were among the few people in the room wearing face masks to protect against COVID-19.
Hassan succeeds Magufuli, who had not been seen in public for more than two weeks before his passing was announced on state TV late Wednesday. Magufuli had denied that COVID-19 was a problem in Tanzania, saying that national prayer had eradicated the disease from the country. But Magufuli acknowledged weeks before his death that the virus was a danger.
A major test of Hassan’s new presidency will be how she deals with the pandemic. [Just The News] The outer security fencing around the United States Capitol will come down next week after federal law enforcement failed to find a credible reason for its remaining up, a House of Representatives memo revealed this week.
House of Representatives Acting Sergeant-at-Arms Timothy Blodgett said in a memo to all members of the House that Capitol Hill officials "will begin making alterations to the temporary fencing around the Capitol complex" next week following the conclusion by Capitol police that "there does not exist a known, credible threat against Congress or the Capitol Complex that warrants the temporary security fencing."
The inner fencing surrounding the Capitol "will remain around Capitol Square" even as the outer barrier comes down, Blodgett wrote.

Two teams of medical researchers in Norway and Germany have independently found that the vaccine could trigger an autoimmune reaction causing blood to clot in the brain, which would offer an explanation for isolated incidents across Europe in recent weeks.

After taking control of the country in a military coup provoked by allegations of voter fraud earlier this year, the Myanmar military government has seized several bank accounts belonging or affiliated with George Soros’ Open Society Foundations, and has announced arrest warrants for 11 members of the organization in the country "on suspicion of giving financial support to the civil disobedience movement against the military junta."
No doubt the Soros foundation people are guilty of something egregious, whether or not they did that particular thing.
The government will also take legal action against the Open Society Foundations, which they allege violated "restrictions on the activities of such organizations" and did not receive approval from Myanmar’s authorities for the deposit of $5 million into their Myanmar bank accounts. It is also alleged to have illegally withdrawn $1.4 million from its bank accounts.
A website that tracks Myanmar political developments from Thailand wrote, "Military-aligned groups including the Union Solidarity and Development Party have accused Soros of manipulating Myanmar’s politics by supporting civil society organizations in the country."

Obama awarded her the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal in 2012, which she described as "one of the most moving days of my life". Ultimately, the Obama administration engineered Aung San Suu Kyi’s rise to power in 2015, by placing sanctions on Myanmar and insisting on only removing them if Aung San Suu Kyi was given a political role in the country.
Another important ally of Aung San Suu Kyi was progressive billionaire George Soros and his global NGO network, which strongly supported her activities.
Myanmar also recently banned Facebook and Twitter in the country after they alleged the platforms used their algorithms to promote anti-military protests following the military takeover.
