[Huffpoo] Six Capitol Police officers have been suspended with pay and 29 others are under investigation for their alleged roles in the riot last month, CNN and Fox News reported Thursday.
"Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman has directed that any member of her department whose behavior is not in keeping with the Department’s Rules of Conduct will face appropriate discipline," a department spokesperson stated.
Images of apparently friendly and encouraging officers were posted on social media during and shortly after the Jan. 6 riot. Five people lost their lives in the attack, including fellow Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. Two other officers later died by suicide.
According to Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), one of the suspended officers took a selfie with a person who was part of the mob that overtook the Capitol. Another wore a "Make America Great Again" hat and appeared to direct rioters around the building.
Two accused rioters informed the FBI that a Capitol police officer told them: "It’s your house now" after they busted into the Capitol.
At least seven officers in five other police departments have also come under investigation for their alleged role in the Capitol attack.

...Would it be impolite of me to point out that just a day or two back, the CP had an overwhelming vote of 'no confidence' in its leadership?
I can see discipline for the two guys who took pics and were wearing MAGA hats. But all of a sudden, an appreciable fraction of the CP is now under investigation? Either they were no good to begin with, or the leadership is afraid that their malfeasance is going to be exposed.

#3 Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. ...
A flat out lie.
Died of natural causes, not blunt force trauma.
George Floyd, murdered? A flat out lie.
Died of fentanyl overdose (4x the lethal amount in his bloodstream per the Medical Examiner!) -- not asphyxiation or strangulation.
Michael Brown, murdered? A flat out lie.
Shot after physically assaulting & threatening to take the gun of and kill an officer -- per 3 different investigations by a grand jury, Holder's DOJ, and the new left-wing DA.
"Systemic police racism" killing thousands of blacks? A flat out lie.
Total # of killings of unarmed black suspects in US each year = 10-15.
Total # of killings of all black suspects including those violently resisting arrest are FEWER THAN # of killings of white suspects.
"Black Lives Matter is a peaceful reform movement tgat seeks racial justice." A flat out lie.
BLM is a radical Marxist revolutionary movement whose founders were trained, mentored, inspired and supported by domestic terrorists who came out of the Weather Underground and other violent 1970s-era terror groups. Their goal is to destroy policing and overthrow the established powers, and their m.o. includes violence.

Chris Matthews used to be a Capitol cop. That tells me that they don't take the cream of the crop.
[NYP] A California deputy fatally shot a woman in front of her two young children as she charged at another cop with a knife, graphic video shows.
The footage, released Wednesday by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, shows 33-year-old Ariella Crawford walking along a road in Alta Sierra with her two young children when Deputy Caleb Toderean approaches her.
A nearby resident had called 911 on Feb. 4 to report a woman walking in the middle of the road amid "significant traffic," sheriff’s officials said.
The video shows Crawford becoming immediately upset as the deputies approach, prompting her to pull out a large knife.
"For reasons yet unknown, Ms. Crawford was very upset with the presence of our deputies despite one of them saying she was not in any trouble," Nevada County Sheriff Shannan Moon said.
Toderean tells Crawford she is "not in trouble or anything like that" and denies that he is going to touch the woman’s babies, the clip shows.
Sad it happen, as she was likely have a Mental Emotional episode. Having small kids in the middle of the road with traffic could only have resulted in massive trauma, if not death to the kids and herself.
With all that said....
Knives kill whether in front kids or not.
I have to ask "No taser?" available between Deputy Caleb Toderean and Deputy Matthew Harrison ?
Either way Ariella Crawford with a large knife in the middle of the road attacking LEO is justification enough.

Both of these cops need to be suspended without pay. The officer with the Taser waited way too long to use it. It was obvious that she was disturbed and both of these Bozo's allowed the situation to get out of hand. She was clearly working herself up for an attack.
If she had been tased sooner there might not have been as much adrenaline and the taser might have been effective.
#9
The perps still will sue the LEOs for taser deployment EU5192 ("She turned me into a Newt!"), and the officers are taught to restrain themselves before using them.

Saved the lives of the kids. Dragging them out into traffic to get run over by her shows she had plans to die and take them out with her somehow that very day.

I don't know what video you watched, but the one I saw clearly showed her to be agitated and working herself up.
Saved the lives of the kids. Dragging them out into traffic to get run over...
She was walking on the side of the road, there was no sidewalk that I could see. It was a neighborhood side street and traffic was almost non existent. You have no way of knowing whether she intended to hurt those kids. It certainly did not seem that way to me. Who knows what sort of emotional trauma she was trying to deal with by going for a walk. These cops screwed the pooch as far as I am concerned.

Then your issue is with the BLM training, not the cops.

It's also surprising they didn't try baton strikes on her weapon arm. She was a housewife, not a gang member who's lived in a gym for a few years while in prison.

[pjmedia.com] School districts across the country have suspended in-person instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic, and many continue to do so despite the fact that children are far less likely to contract the virus or to spread it to adults. At least one school board experienced a financial windfall due to its shift to remote instruction, and it provided a refund to taxpayers. Perhaps this should form a model for school districts across the country.
The school board in Naperville, Ill., announced it would distribute $10 million back to taxpayers, The Washington Examiner reported. This tax refund translates to $200 to $500 for the typical family. That will not make up for the months of "remote learning" when parents had to supervise children as they took lessons on a computer screen, but it will certainly help.
Much more at link, including how much taxpayers should get back!

The refund should go to the children's parents, who have been forced to spend thousands per child on tutors to supplement or undo the damage from their public schools' shitty distance learning classes.
Those stupid Zoom classes have been nothing short of a disaster.
Some kids don't even show up. Teachers aren't prepared, can't manage the class, dial in from the road or while off skiing or otherwise on vacation. Even the kids who are conscientious and still trying are giving up due to burnout from screen time.
All the national education stats since the kids were sent home show that achievement is down across the board: reading and math scores compared to pre-COVID are down by about 25% for kids in majority white public schools and down by over 40% in majority black public schools.
Mind you, that's a decline from an already low performance level. This is the death spiral for US public education. Don't think for a second that this is not going to hurt what's left of our Republic and our economy. Here comes serfdom
#2
We had to withdraw our son and put him in a private class because there was no way he can spend 6 HOURS a day on the computer doing school stuff. That's what they wanted them to do. He was 5 at the time. We have been trying to limit his screen time and they think he's going to sit there for 6 hours a day? Wrong. You had to sit on him, cause he'd already figured how to minimize zoom and was playing a game while the teach talked and she couldn't tell he was not doing what he was supposed to. I'm quite irked at the tax money taken from me being wasted.

My brother in law is a teacher DeKalb County GA. He says there’s at least one full blown melee per week, with family members getting into horrific fights on the zoom classes

Good one.
That's the report I got from my kids, the remote learning is just garbage; most of the participants dinking around on something else.
In school is not much better; everyone is so confined and distracted by the protocols of covid attention and retention is difficult at best, everyone is irritable from eating in boxes and having to yell at each other, hall patrol siccing them for every minute mask violation.
In fact, flaunting mask theory isn't an afternoon in detention, it is a weekend of 'mask re-eduction' which that term made me bristle.
There is an article at American Thinker from 2/17 also addressing these observations.

He is in the third grade and doing fine.
[Federalist] A New York City waitress was fired after she expressed hesitation about taking the COVID-19 vaccine without knowing the effects it might have on women who are trying to get pregnant.
According to a report from the New York Post, management at Brooklyn restaurant Red Hook Tavern dismissed 34-year-old Bonnie Jacobson after she refused to get the vaccine "immediately" under her boss’s mandatory orders because she wanted to see more research about its compatibility with fertility.
"The way I see it, getting the vaccine is for me. It protects me. If I am not getting it, it’s my choice, and I’d only be hurting myself," she said, a view that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention supports for expectant mothers. The CDC also says currently that the COVID vaccine is "unlikely to pose a risk for pregnant people."
Jacobson added that while she "fully supports" people getting vaccinated, she chose "not to get the vaccine because there just isn’t enough data or research at this point on its effects on fertility."
Despite the restaurant’s policy providing vaccine exemptions to people whose "personal health or disability prohibits you from obtaining this vaccination," Jacobson was still booted to the curb after working a 13-hour shift, in a "shocking" and "hurtful" decision by her employers, considering her commitment to working throughout the pandemic.
"I was expecting to be met by the same flexibility and compassion," she said.
While tavern managers claimed they "respected her choice," they also said they were forced to let her go in order to comply with restaurant policy.

From the Dept of Labor
[DOI.gov] In the week ending February 13, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 861,000, an increase of 13,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 55,000 from 793,000 to 848,000. The 4-week moving average was 833,250, a decrease of 3,500 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 13,750 from 823,000 to 836,750. Basically there has been little net improvement in the labor market since Nov 2020 or so. The increased employment from businesses that are improving is being balanced by continued businesses that have run out of capital or afraid of riots or realize they can't make it with increase in minimum wage or various other causes.

optimists see as high as 3 or 4% GDP growth for calendar 2021, a lot see 2% or less, I couldn't find any of the traditional forecasts (economic forecasters at big conglomerates and major companies) that forecast negative growth
Truth is a lot of small business are not coming back and we have no well tested forecast models to predict how many. We also don't have models that can deal with the post pandemic corporate restructuring. Finally the amount of damage the Biden Admin will do to the economy is unknown.

Followup on comments to "Survey Shocker: Majority Now Says It'll Take A Pass On This Rushed #Covid Vaccine" here
[DW.com] - Online claims of coronavirus vaccines being lethal are rife following a string of deaths in care homes that vaccinated residents. DW looks into cases around the world and what was behind them.
With coronavirus vaccine distribution well underway around the world, all eyes are on those who have already received the jabs.
For those who don't read past the headlines, a concerning narrative appears — "Fifteen deaths after coronavirus vaccination," "Deaths at care home after coronavirus vaccine," "Volunteer in vaccine trial dies after COVID-19 vaccine."
In each case, there's more to the story than meets the eye. DW reviewed several cases in Germany, Spain, the United States, Norway, Belgium, and Peru, finding that in all cases experts from multiple health authorities could not find causal links between the vaccination and deaths. Not just USA conspiracy, but a worldwide conspiracy?
As of publication, at least 37 million coronavirus vaccinations have been administered in these countries, according to Bloomberg's global vaccine tracker. In those countries, the total number of reported deaths that have occurred post-vaccination is around 350. As US data includes user-submitted information, at least 181 of these cases have not been independently verified. But never mind. 350/37000000 = 0.0000095. According to Worldometer, covid-cases/covid-deaths = 3% = 0.03. Now 0.03/0.000095 = 3158

My wife and I made our decision today to wait a little longer. (We are canceling our appointment for the vaccine). She has all the "pre existing" issues that were not tested in the trials.. lung issues, vasculitus ,hypertension, and recently had a reaction to procrit (severe itching) and they had to stop those injections.
My son in Virginia told us of three women that passed after taking the vaccine.. all with similar pre existing issues.
Maybe the math is in her favor but we do not feel that lucky.

[Postmillennial] Randy Jones, who lives in the Houston suburb of Katy owns a 2021 F150 hybrid truck with the Pro Power option. He has been able to use it to power his whole house during the power outages due to the storm.
Jones, who is 66 years old and recently retired from the oil industry, is now prouder than ever of his purchase of the hybrid truck, which did an amazing job of providing power to his home, using only "a few gallons" of gas the whole time.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Jones posted the following on a forum online, titling it "2021 F-150 PowerBoost's 7.2kw Onboard Generator Saves the Day (3 days!) During Texas Power Outage"
"A little south Texas 10-20 degree cold front took out the power for 3 days so I had a chance to try out the generator on my truck. I haven’t put in a switch to my house power panel yet so I just used a few extension cords. Ran power to some lights, coffee pot, 75" Tv, toaster oven, space heater and refrigerator. I ran it for about 10-12 hours per day to keep the freezer food frozen. I guess that’s not much load because it only used a few gallons of gas over that time. I am more than pleased on what it did for me.

[Free Beacon] Liberal education collective claims asking students to show work is racist.
A radical new push to purge math curricula of allegedly racist practices like showing your work and finding the correct answer is bankrolled by one of the nation's most prominent nonprofits: the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The Gates Foundation is the only donor mentioned on the homepage of A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction, a group of 25 education organizations whose curriculum states that asking students to show their work and find the right answer is an inherently racist practice.
Over the past decade, the Gates Foundation has given upward of $140 million to some of the groups behind Pathway, whose antiracist resources are the basis for a new teacher training course offered by the Oregon Department of Education.
The Education Trust, a California-based group that promoted the September release of Pathway's antiracist "toolkit," has received $86 million from the Gates Foundation, including a $3.6 million grant awarded in June.
Teach Plus, another group dedicated to creating an antiracist culture in K-12 schools, has received more than $27 million from the Gates Foundation. The group's board members include former Democratic congressman George Miller and Obama-era secretary of education John King Jr.—who is also the president of The Education Trust.
