NEW YORK (AP) ‐ A New York City police officer grappling with an armed man died early Sunday in the Bronx after being shot three times, possibly with his own gun.
The 27-year-old suspect also died after five officers fired at him, police officials said. He has not been publicly identified yet.
The NYPD identified the slain officer as 33-year-old Brian Mulkeen.
"We lost a hero this evening," Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a news conference outside Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.
Mulkeen was patrolling the streets around a city apartment complex at around 12:30 a.m. as part of a unit investigating potential gang activity, Chief of Department Terence Monahan said.
Mulkeen and his partner tried to apprehend a man who had fled questioning, and a struggle on the ground ensued, Monahan said.

Glenmore, absolutely right. Comrade Wilhem was probably referring to the perp. The police who murdered him will undoubtedly be disciplined. And possibly charged with murder.

[BBC] Jihadists have attacked a military base where US soldiers train commandos in Somalia, causing casualties, reports say.
Local residents reported heavy blasts and gunfire at Baledogle airport in the southern Lower Shabelle region.
The al-Shabab militant group said it had carried out the attack, using a car bomb to blast through the gates before sending its fighters inside.
Military officials say the jihadists have been pushed back.
Al-Shabab said in a statement that it had launched the raid.
"After breaching the perimeters of the heavily fortified base, the mujahideen [holy warriors] stormed the military complex, engaging the crusaders in an intense firefight."
The base, about 100km (60 miles) west of the capital Mogadishu, is said to house US special forces, Somali special forces and Ugandan peacekeepers. It is used as a launch site for US drones as well as being a training centre.
Separately, an Italian military convoy was hit by an explosion in Mogadishu itself, Italy's defence ministry said. No casualties have as yet been reported in this attack.
[PRESSTV] Security forces in Egypt have killed 15 murderous Moslems in a raid in the country’s restive region of Sinai Peninsula.
A Death Eater group was "planning hostile acts targeting military and police forces... in order to destabilize national security," the Egyptian Interior Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
Security forces exchanged fire with the murderous Moslems as they stormed their hideout in a farm located in North Sinai’s bucolic provincial capital of el-Arish.
Authorities said they found a small trove of stashed weapons, including an boom belt, several rifles, and another unspecified bomb.
The ministry did not mention when the raid took place. The announcement followed recent "counter-terrorism" operations in Sinai during which authorities said 118 suspected murderous Moslems were killed.
"Police forces seized nine automatic rifles, three bird-eye rifles, two explosive charges and an boom belt in possession of the terrorist group."
The statement did not say when the raid took place, yet the announcement came three days after an Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. [PRESSTV] The United States Air Force temporarily shifts its command center from Qatar to South Carolina amid US President Donald Trump’s escalation of tensions with Iran.
The unannounced operation marked the first time in 13 years that the US command and control was moved out of the region, reported The Washington Post, which had been invited to observe the measure. WTF? I guess they wanted everyone to know...
As a result, the Combined Air and Space Operations Center at al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar was left empty on Saturday and Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina was put in charge of controlling US operations from 7,000 miles away.

Qatar has been playing both side for quite a while. Hope this is temporary as the old WW2 buildings/housing were 'temporary' [most of that wood didn't come down till the 80s and there are still some out there].

The Al-Thani family that rules Qatar has supported the Muslim Brotherhood for decades. It supported financially the Popular Arab and Islamic Conference (the "Terrorist Internationale") when it functioned in the Sudan. It is Iran's best friend in the Arab World. It has been home to such elements as Brookings and the Clinton foundations. The wonder is why the USA chose the insecure venue as a command center in the first place.

asylum seeker to a 10 year prison term for attempting to murder judges and prosectors. Haidar A, the Death Eater Paleostinian, had previously been sentenced in 2017 for attempting to behead a refugee.
"It's amazing how a young man can be so caught up in hate, anger and blind rage," said presiding judge Sandra Mayer, " reported the local paper Augsburger Allgemeine. She added that "Haidar A. is caught in almost medieval ways of thinking and the court has little hope that he will develop for the better." So, put him down like a rabid dog
The court sentenced the 26-year-old Haidar for six attempted murders on Wednesday. Haidar sought during the judicial process in the Summer of 2017 to take the weapon of a police office in the courtroom. He was, according to the Augsburger Allgemeine, upset that the court sentenced him to a lengthy prison term for attempting to behead a asylum seeker with a knife in the town of Hurlach--a municipality in the district of Landsberg in the southern German state of Bavaria .
Haider also spat in the direction of the judge's bench and screamed: "To hell with you and those who created you."
Haidar wanted to behead the refugee because he "insulted his religious feelings," according to the paper's report. The court sentenced him to 12 years and nine months in prison. When the prison sentence was announced, Haidar tossed his shoe in the direction of the judge and attempted to secure the firearm of a police officer. The combined sentences from 2017 and Wednesday likely mean that Haidar could serve a prison term longer than 20 years.
Haidar wrote in a letter to cousins that judge is a "whore" and the other judges are her "pimps." He wrote in the letter that he wants to kill the judges. Haidar also admitted in a letter that he sent to the court that he wanted to carry out a campaign of bloody Dire Revenge on Germans and Christians. The German Bild paper reported that he wrote the panel of judges overseeing his case:
"I promise, if I get a pig from your worshipers of the cross in the hands, I will drink his blood. I'll spit at you and your cross. "
[PRESSTV] Dozens of migrants colonists, including a 20-day-old infant, were rescued at sea off Greece's Lesbos Island early on Sunday, September 29, as the country faced a new surge in arrivals.
Although no comparison to the major wave of 2015, Greece is seeing a sudden increase in arrivals of migrants colonists to its shores. In the 24-hour period between Saturday, September 28, and Sunday morning, 164 migrants colonists were rescued at sea or landed on Lesbos, according to the Greek coasties. A total of 3,432 migrants colonists arrived in the past week on Lesbos and other Greek islands close to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... Volunteers from the NGO Refugee Rescue waited in the pre-dawn hours on Sunday for coasties vessels laden with rescued families to arrive at port, and helped the wet migrants colonists put thermal blankets on themselves and their children.
On Friday, September 27, seven migrants colonists, including five children, drowned after their boat capsized in the Aegean Sea near the Greek island of Chios.
More than 7,000 migrants colonists have arrived in Greece by sea in September alone, three thousand more than the same month last year, according to the refugee agency UNHCR.
The increase in arrivals has piled additional pressure on Greece's overcrowded island camps, all of which are operating at least twice their capacity.
Charity Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF) says about 24,000 migrants colonists and refugees are trapped on Greek islands camps in "horrendous" conditions, with overcrowding causing a deterioration in sanitation facilities, a lack of safety, and increasing violence.

djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... (IraqiNews.com) ‐ An Iraqi paramilitary fighter was maimed Sunday when an explosive charge went off in Mosul city, a security source said.
"A roadside kaboom went off Sunday morning in al-Tasa village, south of Mosul, leaving a member of the paramilitary Popular Mobilization Forces maimed," the source told the Arabic-language al-Ahd News website.
According to the source, the maimed was moved to a nearby hospital for treatment and a probe was opened into the incident.
[Jpost] The detention of eight Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, "leaders" in the Hebron area by the IDF won’t intimidate the Paleostinians or stop them from "pursuing their national role in defending their land and holy sites," the terrorist organization said on Saturday.
Paleostinian sources said the men were detained during IDF raids on their homes early Saturday in the towns of Dura, Deir Samet, Surif and Idhna in the Hebron area.
The sources identified the Hamas suspects as Mohammed Yusef al-Huroub, Ahmed Dib al-Huroub, Ezz Qassem, Ayed Dudin, Fadi Ghneimat, Khaled al-Fasfous, Tawfik Abdel Fattah al-Huroub, and Imsail al-Nattah.
Hamas spokesperson Abdel Hakim Hanini said that the detainees, who previously served time in Israeli prison for terrorist-related offenses, were "paying the price for their defense of the holy sites and the freedom of the land and Paleostinians."
Hanini pointed out that Mohammed Yusef al-Huroub was detained in Dura by the IDF shortly after he was summoned for interrogation by the Paleostinian Authority security forces. al-Huroub’s ID card was still being held by the PA security forces, he said.
The Hamas spokesperson condemned the "revolving door policy" between the IDF and the PA security forces in the West Bank, a reference to the security coordination between the two sides.
Hamas has repeatedly condemned the security coordination and called on the PA to halt all forms of collaboration with Israel.
The crackdown on Hamas operatives coincided with the 19th anniversary of the Second Intifada, also known as the al-Aqsa Intifada, which erupted on September 28, 2000.
Hamas said in a statement on Saturday that the al-Aqsa Intifada "was a turning point in the Paleostinian cause and a milestone in the history of our people."
According to Hamas, the Paleostinians’ "popular and military action" during the al-Aqsa Intifada forced Israel to withdraw from the Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... Strip in 2005.
"Resistance is a legitimate right guaranteed by international laws, and this includes the armed struggle [against Israel], which represents a strategic choice for protecting the Paleostinian cause and restoring national rights," Hamas said.
The terror group that seized control of the Gaza Strip in 2007 also reiterated its fierce opposition to normalization between Israel and the Arab states.
"Normalization with the Zionist entity poses a grave threat to the Paleostinian cause and rights," Hamas warned, calling on Arabs to put pressure on their leaders not to engage in any form of normalization with Israel.
[Presstv] Israeli forces have arrested over two dozen Paleostinians, among them senior members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine (PFLP), in raids across the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli military said on Sunday that it had arrested 27 Paleostinian people on suspicion of involvement in planned attacks over the weekend.
Paleostinian media reported that senior PFLP figures and former political prisoners were among the detainees.
The Paleostinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) said Israeli soldiers invaded and violently searched homes in the West Bank, and interrogated many Paleostinians while inspecting their ID cards.
The raids took place in the cities of Jenin, Nablus, Bethlehem and Tulkarm, the towns of Awarta, Asira ash-Shamaliya and Birzeit, the villages of Nahalin, Deir Abu Mash'al, Nabi Salih and Kobar, as well as the Balata refugee camp.
Paleostinians in some of the areas mentioned held protests against the violent raids, but Israeli forces fired gas bombs and concussion grenades at the demonstrators.
On Saturday night, Israel's so-called security agency better known by the acronym Shabak or the Shin Bet announced that it had arrested three Paleostinian men suspected of carrying out a bombing last month in the West Bank, that killed a 17-year-old Israeli girl and injured her father and brother.
Paleostinian media reported that among them were senior figures in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, who were detained in the city of Nablus and the nearby Balata refugee camp.
