[WASHINGTONTIMES] Charlottesville, Virginia, will no longer celebrate Thomas Jefferson’s birthday as an official city holiday and instead will observe a day recognizing the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans.
The city council voted Monday night to scrap the decades-old April 13 holiday honoring the slave-holding president and Founding Father. Charlottesville will now mark Liberation and Freedom Day on March 3, the day U.S. Army forces arrived in the city in 1865.
Charlottesville has been grappling publicly for years with how to tell its history of race and discrimination. Those efforts intensified after white nationalists gathered in the city in 2017 for a rally that descended into deadly violence.
The legacy of Jefferson, the nation’s third president, author of the Declaration of Independence and founder of the University of Virginia, has been a component of that ongoing debate.

[Free Beacon] Former Colorado governor John Hickenlooper admitted Tuesday it's hard to get donations from Democrats when his campaign isn't promising things like free health care and college.
Hickenlooper wouldn't answer MSNBC anchor Craig Melvin when asked about his second-quarter fundraising total, sheepishly saying "we certainly haven't raised $24 million," a reference to Mayor Pete Buttigieg's latest haul. Hickenlooper saw several campaign departures this week as he struggles to stay relevant in the crowded 2020 field, barely polling at 1 percent in national and early-primary state polls.
"The bottom line is for a small campaign like us from a, you know‐Colorado's about 6 million or a little less than 6 million people‐it's harder to raise money because we don't‐we're not promising free health care or, you know, free tuition for everyone, forgive student debt," Hickenlooper said. "We're trying to present a picture of this country and what it can be in the future that will resonate with everyone, and that has, you know, that's a harder vehicle by which to get small donors."
Melvin said it sounded like Hickenlooper was describing two key Democratic proposals‐canceling student debt and free health care‐as "pie-in-the-sky" ideas.
"Yeah, I think they'd be very hard to implement," Hickenlooper said. "One of the points I've tried to make is as Democrats I think we've very clearly got to say that we're not socialists, and many people view those large, you know, large expansions of government as in some way socialist. I'm not saying they are, I'm just saying that the Republicans are going to say we're socialists and I think we've very clearly got to say socialism is not the solution. I can say that."
Melvin said he found Hickenlooper's remark telling, as it seemed to concede most of the Democratic contenders needed to convince a large portion of the country that they weren't all socialists.

The Socialist don't want you John. Now you have a choice, come to the stark raving realization that its no longer the old Democratic Party of old but the neo-Commie party that it is, or live in denial. Old classical liberals are like the Tories of the American War of Independence, while acknowledging the Crown was violating the fundamental rights of Englishmen, loyalty to the King trumped all.

[FOX] The New York attorney general’s office said Tuesday the Justice Department has decided to print the 2020 Census without the citizenship question sought by the Trump administration, ending a contentious legal dispute over an issue that could soon affect the makeup of Congress and the Electoral College.
The Supreme Court ruled last week that the question couldn't be added for now, but left open the possibility that additional arguments could change its mind. Civil rights groups argued that the Trump administration's reasons for including the question were merely pretextual efforts to discourage illegal immigrants from responding to the Census.
Population counts from the Census are used to apportion House seats among the 50 states, and a new electoral map based on the Census will be in effect for the 2024 presidential election. States receive votes in the Electoral College equal to the number of members in their congressional delegation, counting both House and Senate seats.
In a tweet on Monday, Daniel Jacobson, who worked in the White House Counsel’s Office under President Obama, said a trial attorney at the Justice Department told him that "the printer has been instructed to begin the printing process" without the citizenship question.

the Dept of Commerce is in charge of the Census Questionnaire, not the DoJ and certainly not the NY State Att Gen.
Not sure what is going on here

US Dept of Commerce put out a press release confirming this decision.
Too bad.
If Sec Ross had the ability to produce a good administrative record this would have been a win.
Trouble is that many Republicans are not really bureaucratically literate. So they don't know how to cya enough to make their decisions bullet proof in the courts.

Then don't use the results for determining the number of delegates, redistricting, etc... The data is tainted.
The low friction way the citizenship question was dropped suggest maybe something like that is in the works.

Roberts has it in for Trump. Perhaps it started with the Obama Judge comment.
Trump is picking his battles with SCOTUS.

Undermines national security. Title X USC, Section 246. Militia: composition and classes
(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States
So, how many citizens do you have? Where are they located? Where to establish regional mobilization centers near population concentrations?

Roberts is an absolute disgrace. He is all for the government controlling everything in our lives and keeping the cheap and exploitable labor available.
[Breitbart] Mayor Pete Buttigieg on Tuesday warned Black Americans of a new civil war if the federal government failed to end racist institutions and pay reparations for slavery.
"If we do not tackle the problem of racial inequality in my lifetime, I am convinced that it will upend the American project in my lifetime," he warned. "It brought our country to its knees once and if we do not act, it could again."
Buttigieg spoke about racial issues during a Chicago speech at Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition and Citizenship Education Fund.
The South Bend mayor spoke about the burden he carried after a white police officer shot and killed a black man who was suspected of breaking into cars. He acknowledged that there was much more to do on issues of race in the police department, but that was only the beginning.
"Yes, the uniform is burdened by racism, but it goes far beyond that, our health care system is burdened by racism ... we know that our housing is burdened by racism ... our schools are burdened by racism," he said.
He spoke about the need for racial reparations, citing the "compound interest" owed to the black community after slavery.
"Every dollar plundered 150 years ago costs the descendants of the victim a thousand today," he said.
Buttigieg recalled his campaign theme of freedom, security, and democracy, noting that he benefited from white privilege.
"It is going to take extra effort applying our deepest values and our biggest ideas to drive out the darkness," he said. "And it is candidly particularly urgent that we hear this from any candidate that runs for office with the benefits and privileges of whiteness on his or her side."

Oh, its coming Pete. Nothing can stop it now. It won't be like the last one, more like Yugoslavia or the Iraq insurgency. You'll find power shifts greatly to those 'willing to give the last full measure of devotion' and away from talk and talkers.
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Rep. Matt Gaetz said he received an apology from a campaign staffer for Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg ...mayor of South Bend, Indiana, since 2012. Buttigieg graduated from Harvard College and, on a Rhodes Scholarship, from Pembroke College, Oxford. From 2007 to 2010, he worked at McKinsey and Company, a consulting firm. From 2009 to 2017 Buttigieg served as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve, attaining the rank of lieutenant and deploying to Afghanistan in 2014. Buttigieg was first elected mayor of South Bend in 2011 and was reelected in 2015. During his second term, he announced he was gay. Buttigieg also campaigned for Indiana state treasurer in 2010 and for chair of the Democratic National Committee in 2017, losing both elections. He is running for the Dem nomination in 2020 on the theory that being mayor of a nondescript medium sized city is qualification to run the country... after she posted a comment online hoping that protesters pelt him with urine.
Mr. Gaetz, a Florida Republican, captured a screenshot of the Facebook comment by Samantha Lillian Elaine Pollara in reference to a recent incident in which he was hit by a beverage at a political event.
"Please, please let it be urine next time," Ms. Pollara wrote, including three "fingers crossed" emojis.
Mr. Gaetz has previously said he plans to press charges against his former Democratic political opponent, Amanda Kondrat’yev, for allegedly throwing a drink at him at a Florida town hall event last month.
On Sunday, he called on Mr. Buttigieg to condemn Ms. Pollara for inciting "violence" against him with the urine comment.

[FOXNEWS] Rev. Samuel Rodriguez was "full of indignation" when he saw the reports and heard from politicians about the deplorable and inhumane conditions for illegal immigrants colonists at an El Paso County, Texas migrant detention center. But what he saw at the same facility toured by Rep. Alexandria Boom Boom Ocasio-Cortez Dem represntative from da Bronx in Noo Yawk and leader of the Mean Girl Caucus in Congress. One of the Great Minds of the 21st Century, she is known as much for her innaleck as for her dance moves. She is all in favor of socialism, even though she's fuzzy on the details... , D-N.Y. with a group of pastors was "drastically different."
The president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, the world's largest Hispanic Christian organization, and senior pastor of New Seasons Christian Worship Center in Sacramento shared his firsthand experience touring a migrant detention center during a press briefing Monday.
"I read the reports, saw the news clips. I just wanted to see what was actually happening in order to better enable our efforts to find a fair and a just solution to our broken immigration system," Rodriguez, who has advised President Trump and both Presidents Barack Obama They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them... and George W. Bush on immigration reform, noted. "To my surprise, I saw something drastically different from the stories I’ve been hearing in our national discourse. Even as a veteran of immigration advocacy in the U.S., I was shocked at the misinformation of the crisis at the border."
The group of pastors saw a very different picture described by Ocasio-Cortez and other politicians and media outlets.
"We found no soiled diapers, no deplorable conditions and no lack of basic necessities," Rodriguez remarked, adding he specifically asked border agents if they staged the facility in response to the negative press. "They unequivocally denied it ‐ we were witnessing the identical conditions the attorneys saw when they toured the facility days earlier."
In fact, some told him the sources from whom the negative coverage originated "never toured the areas of the facility that we toured" and speculated they might have had political motivations.
The pastors left encouraged by the commitment and dedication of America’s Border Patrol and immigration officers, "many of which are Latinos, by the way." He said one emotional Border Patrol agent turned to him and said, referring to the vilification: "Pastor Sam, what they’re saying about us is completely false. We care about these kids and have a passion for our calling."
Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, with an accompanying delegation of pastors at the Clint Patrol Station this weekend in El Paso County, Texas.
Pastor Carlos Moran, NHCLC board member and immigrant, said, "we, as evangelical leaders that serve in different segments, are very committed to helping children regardless of their status and we commend those officers that are trying their very best to serve and fulfill their duty at the border. However, a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all... we do call on our politicians to set aside their personal agendas and begin focusing on resolving this immigration crisis."
