[Breitbart] Three miles of new bollard wall border barrier will be built in the Rio Grande Valley Sector under a contract awarded on May 28 by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The construction will take place in a currently unsecured portion of Starr County, Texas, near Rio Grande City.
CBP officials announced the award of a construction contract to Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. for $42,860,000 to build a three-mile section of 18-30 foot bollard wall segments. The contract also calls for the installation of detection technology, lighting, and new roads for Border Patrol access, according to information obtained from CBP officials.
Officials stressed that the funding for this construction project is not pursuant to the National Emergency Declaration and does not include any diverted funds from any other source of funding. Specifically, they stated the funds are not coming from the Department of Defense or Treasury Department budgets.
Because of restrictions place by Congress in the FY19 fiscal appropriations bill, “border wall construction will not take place at the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, La Lomita Historical Park, Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, within or east of the Vista del Mar Ranch tract of the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge, or the National Butterfly Center,” officials reported.
The Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector is consistently the busiest in the nation, according to the Southwest Border Migration Report from CBP. More than 40 percent of all illegal immigrants are apprehended in this sector. The sector is also responsible for 43 percent of all marijuana seized by Border Patrol agents and is the second busiest for cocaine. Despite this, large portions of the sector remain unsecured by any type of physical barrier.
The contract calls for construction to begin in August 2019.

This is not good, people. The bollard type fence is to prevent only vehicles from crashing through. Wildlife, whose habitat often spans both sides of the border, can easily pass. So can people. In a single file, they'll still be coming in.

The emir will meet Trump in Washington on July 9 for talks on regional politics, security and counter-terrorism cooperation, according to the announcement, amid a US effort to build pressure on Gulf power Iran.
"The visit will build on the longstanding partnership between the United States and Qatar and further strengthen our already substantial economic and security ties," the White House said.

So, it looks like the time to hit one of these is during the reload phase.

M. Murcek,
You have no idea how right you are. I'm hearing that it takes almost three hours to completely reload a 300 or 400, and it's ALWAYS going to need to have all four tubes reloaded - the default setting for launching is two missiles at a time; you have to specifically override it to launch just one. It's unlikely at best that a Soviet/Syrian/Iranian/Generic Middle Eastern Bad Guy is going to do that, especially as Doctrine And Training says you launch two (not to mention spray and pray is pretty much unbreakable tradition in the Middle Eastern customers' countries) - having to explain to the boss why somebody got past one is probably going to lead to you having a case of the dead.

Both good thoughts.
However, the crane is a vulnerable single point of failure. No loads or reloads without it.

Once the SEAD mission moves to drone swarms backed up by a UCAV loaded with HARMs nobody will be able to field enough of these to matter.
My thought exactly!
If I may, for the non-War Nerds in the crowd:
Once the ENEMY AIR DEFENSE SUPPRESSION mission moves to drone swarms backed up by a UNMANNED COMBAT DRONE loaded with ANTI-RADAR MISSILES, nobody will be able to field enough of these to matter.
Apologies if that seems condescending, but this is important. Drone swarms, particularly autonomous ones, are a huge game-changer. Coming to a war theater near you.
[DW] Pia Klemp stands accused of aiding illegal immigration after she saved people from drowning in the Mediterranean. The Bonn native has accused Italian authorities of organizing "a show trial."
New rulers, new rules. And then there’s the whole learning from the past thingie...
In interview with the Basler Zeitung daily on Friday, Klemp said that a trial against her was due to begin soon after she and some of her compatriots were charged in Sicily with assisting in illegal immigration.
She said that she was told by her Italian lawyer that she could be looking at "up to 20 years in prison and horrendous fines."
Klemp added, however, that she intended to fight the case up to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, La Belle France, if she had to.
The 35-year-old Bonn native has been under investigation in Italia since her ship, the Iuventa, was impounded in the summer of 2017, and the government has moved to ban her from sailing around the Italian coast. According to German public broadcaster WDR, through the work on that ship and the Sea-Watch 3, Klemp has personally assisted in the rescue of more than 1,000 people at risk of drowning in unsafe dinghies as they attempted to cross to Europe ...also known as Moslem Lebensraum... in search of a better life.
SALVINI'S CRACKDOWN
An already immigrant-unfriendly government in Rome became even more so in June 2018, when newly appointed Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini of the far-right League party promised a crackdown the likes of which modern Italia had never seen.
Since assuming office, Salvini has sought to put a stop to migrant rescue ships docking on Italian shores and allowing refugees to disembark. In January, the nationalist leader made headlines with the forced evacuation of hundreds of asylum-seekers from Italia's second-largest refugee center and his refusal to clarify where the people, many of whom had lived in Castelnuovo di Porto for years and become integrated into town life, were being taken.
Shortly thereafter, Sicilian prosecutors ruled that Salvini could be charged with kidnapping more than 177 migrants colonists left stranded on a ship he had ordered impounded.
'A YEARSLONG SHOW TRIAL'
What frustrates Klemp the most, she told the Basler Zeitung, is that the costs ‐ amounting to hundreds of thousands of euros ‐ that she has had to prepare to cover from her own savings and some new donations "for what is likely to be a yearslong show trial" require money that could have been spent on rescue missions.
"But the worst has already come to pass," she said. "Sea rescue missions have been criminalized."
For this, the captain blames not only the Italian government but what she sees as a failure of the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... "to remember its avowed values: human rights ...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty... , the right to life, to apply for asylum, and the duty of seafarers to rescue those in danger at sea."
Klemp added that "demagogues" such as Salvini, former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer were effectively allowing thousands to perish in the Mediterranean each year.
She pushed back at criticism that rescue missions encouraged more people to attempt the highly dangerous crossing. "There are scientific studies that disprove the idea that sea rescues are a so-called pull factor," she said. "The people come because, unfortunately, there are so many reasons to flee." And if countries close their borders, "they come via the Mediterranean because there is no legal way to get here," she added.
To cover her potentially exorbitant legal costs, a bar in Bonn has announced a fundraising campaign to help Klemp. Cafe Bla has announced that for every patron who orders the "Pia beer," 50 euro cents will be donated to their former waitress.

[AlAhram] The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) filed a request on Friday seeking to overturn the rejection of her planned investigation into war crimes in Afghanistan allegedly committed by both Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... Death Eaters and U.S. troops.
In April, the court refused lead prosecutor Fatou Bensouda’s request to open an investigation into alleged atrocities by all sides during the nearly two-decade conflict.
Bensouda’s new filing, which will be heard by a trial court, was the first step in the legal process to appeal the refusal.
ICC prosecutors had identified the Taliban and its affiliates, the Afghan authorities, and members of the U.S. armed forces and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as potential perpetrators of crimes under the court’s statute.
The court’s decision to block an investigation "affects not only the outcome of any trial but also the very possibility of a trial occurring," the filing said. Yeah. That's kinda the point, Bitch
Prosecutors had said there were preliminary grounds to believe U.S. forces committed war crimes in Afghanistan and at CIA detention facilities elsewhere in 2003 and 2004.
The alleged atrocities took place in all 34 of Afghanistan’s provinces, with a smaller number of crimes alleged in Poland, Lithuania and Romania, where suspected members of the Taliban or al Qaeda were held for questioning.
But the case has triggered a strong backlash from the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... . In April, the U.S. revoked the entry visa of the prosecutor and has threatened to do the same against court personnel.

Same reason Russia annexed old East Prussia and the Poles old German Silesia in 1945. Not to mention Germany and France trading ownership of Alsace Lorraine (1870, 1918, 1940, 1945). Wars have consequences.

[DAWN] Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena has told his cabinet that he will not cooperate with a parliamentary investigation into security lapses leading to the Easter suicide kabooms, official sources said on Saturday.
Sirisena summoned an emergency meeting of his cabinet on Friday night to oppose the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing the April 21 attacks that killed 258 people and maimed nearly 500.
A ministerial source told AFP that Sirisena has refused to allow any police, military or intelligence personnel to testify before the committee.
"The cabinet meeting ended inconclusively," the source said on condition of anonymity. "The government did not agree to suspend the PSC either."
Sirisena's office did not comment on the outcome of the heated cabinet meeting, but said the president had told senior coppers on Friday that he will not allow any serving officer to testify before the PSC.
Last week, Sirisena's intelligence chief Sisira Mendis told the committee that the president had failed to hold regular security review meetings to assess the potential threat from radicals.
Halfway through his testimony, the live telecast of the proceedings were stopped on Sirisena's orders, official sources said.
Sirisena's defence secretary and police chief have suggested that the president, who is also the minister of Defence and Law and Order, did not follow proper protocols in dealing with intelligence reports, including advance warnings about the April 21 bombings.
Sirisena has repeatedly denied he was aware of an impending threat.

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. Sirisena said last week that he had met with the national police chief and his top brass 13 days before the Easter Sunday attacks but no officer had raised the warnings which had been relayed by India.
Official sources said New Delhi had provided details of planned attacks based on information from a terrorist in Indian custody.
The government has admitted there were intelligence failures before the attacks, in which 45 foreign nationals died.
Sirisena subsequently suspended police chief Pujith Jayasundara and dismissed his top defence official Hemasiri Fernando.

Despite a number of prior warnings and repeated requests by our ground agents to meet with him, he did not relent. And we practically installed the fucker.
What's even more shitty is that the prez is also the minister of both defense and law, putting home and army under the same klutz. He thought that it was a ploy by our "right-wing leaders to influence the social fabric" of Srilanka.
One reply that we got was something like this :
'We are a very ancient, secular and integrated society. People of all religions and languages have lived here peacefully for centuries (save a little genocidal civil war now and then). We don't need lessons from big brothers about how to handle our society. Our muslim population is very nice and we love it.'
While he was busy counting gifts from China and planning for his son's $ million wedding, the snakes were planning the attack.
[AlMasdar] A media source told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) on Friday that Syria has not restored relations with Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,, despite the claims by the Paleostinian group’s leader, Ismail Haniyah, earlier this month.
"The stance of Syria on this issue is principled," the SANA source said, adding "this stance, in the past, was built on the fact that Hamas was a resistance movement against ’Israel’, but, later it became clear that it is the blood of Moslem Brüderbund that dominates this movement when it supported the bully boyz in Syria and engaged in the scheme that ’Israel’ wanted."
The SANA source said that all the news circulated will never change Syria’s attitude towards those who have been rejected by the Syrian people since the beginning of the war.
Haniyah told Sputnik News in an exclusive interview that Hamas had accepted Syria’s view on the opposition groups.
Hamas, who is allied with Iran, cut off relations with Syria in 2012 after their then leader, Khaled Mesha’al, abruptly left Damascus for Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Upon his arrival in Qatar, Mesha’al heavily criticized Damascus and adopted Doha’s narrative on the Syrian conflict.
Since then, Syria and Hamas have had strained relations, with the former shifting their primary support for the Paleostinian people to groups like the PFLP, PFLP-GC, PIJ, DFLP, and Fatah al-Intifada.
[ALMASDARNEWS] Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh has told SHANA news agency that the country is utilising unofficial channels to sell its oil, as the country’s energy sector was slapped with US sanctions in November 2018. The minister declined to specify how exactly the country is going through with the sales, citing the need to keep the method secret from Washington.
"We have unofficial or unconventional sales, all of which are secret, because if they are made known America would immediately stop them", he said.
The minister also commented on previous statements made by his deputy, who said that Tehran is selling its oil on what he called a "grey market". Zanganeh explained that the method Iran uses is somewhere between the transparent "white market" and the illegal "black market", which is akin to smuggling.
The US has recently intensified its efforts to bring the Iranian oil exports to "zero" having ended the sanctions waivers for eight states that were issued in November 2018 when the restrictions were imposed and introduced new sanctions against Iran’s Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC).
Tehran responded to this by calling the sanctions against it a "defeated policy", noting that it had proved it ineffectiveness when carried out by previous administrations.
Washington imposed sanctions on the Islamic Theocratic Republic following its withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal ‐ an accord that lifted international sanctions from the country in 2015 in exchange for limitations on its nuclear programme. Iranian Oil Shipments Seem To Have Stopped In May
May 10, 2019 Radio Farda
No oil tankers have left Iranian loading ports since U.S. ended its sanctions waivers allowing a handful of countries to buy Iranian oil, Bloomberg reports.
Tanker tracking data cannot be fully accurate, as ships can turn off their transponders making them invisible to tracking systems, but so far, no tanker has been observed leaving port or on open seas moving toward one of Iran’s main customers; such as China and India.
