[AlAhram] A police officer in Somalia says Islamic bully boybutton menrubbed out a prominent politician in the north of the capital, Mogadishu, late Saturday.
Capt. Mohammed Hussein said Osman Elmi Boqore, the country's oldest politician estimated to be over 80, was rubbed out by button men who pulled up near his car as he was being driven through Karan district.
Somalia's Islamic bully boy rebels, al-Shabaab ... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... , which is allied with al-Qaeda, grabbed credit for the murder of Boqore, an outspoken politician and one of the country's longest-serving members of parliament.
President Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed and his prime minister Hassan Ali Khaire condemned the liquidation, instructing security services to investigate.
Al-Shabaab has previously carried out attacks against government officials, African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful... peacekeepers and United Nations ...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks... staff in a deadly campaign of suicide kabooms and gun attacks. Militant attacks have continued despite al-Shabaab being ousted from its bases in Mogadishu in 2011.
[PULSE.NG] A civilian militia source in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, told AFP "at least 13" blasts were heard throughout the city at dawn, some two hours before voting opened at 0700 GMT.
Residents also reported hearing the kabooms.
"Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... holy warriors attempted to enter the city but were intercepted," a security source told AFP.
"They resorted to firing RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) on the city. Attempts have been made to locate the source of the firing."
A second source said one of the kabooms occurred at the headquarters of the Nigerian Army 7th Division as troops were preparing to go out on operations.
"One soldier was killed and 20 were maimed. There were other kabooms at Maimalari barracks but there was no casualty," he added.
A fighter jet was seen flying over the city, and the source said troops were searching for the source of the fire.
Three mortar shells fell into an open rice field in the Teachers Village camp for people displaced by the conflict but there were no immediate reports of casualties.
But the army denied there had been any attack, saying the city was "calm and peaceful".
Borno state police commissioner Damien Chukwu acknowledged the sound of gunfire but said it was "for security purposes", insisting there was "no threat to public peace and order".
There have been growing fears of a major Boko Haram attack in the run-up to the election, given the jihadists' previous pledges to disrupt the poll.
Maiduguri is the birthplace of Boko Haram and has been repeatedly attacked during its nearly 10-year insurgency that has devastated the remote region.

[PULSE.NG] As international concern grows over India-Pakistain sabre-rattling, residents of Kashmire, at the centre of a decades-old struggle between the nuclear-armed neighbours, reported heightened military activity.
The region has been on edge since the February 14 attack on an Indian convoy which killed 40 soldiers and was claimed by Pakistain-based Islamist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
India has accused Pakistain of supporting the attack -- a claim rejected by the Islamabad government -- and there have been widespread calls for nationalist leader Modi to order a reprisal strike.
About 10,000 paramilitaries started arriving in Kashmire on Saturday, a day after India ordered the reinforcements.
Modi told a rally in Rajasthan state that the country was "angry" about the attack in the Pulwama district of Indian-held Kashmire.
"After the Pulwama attack, you must have seen how Pakistain is being brought to account one step at a time. They are in a state of panic because of our government's decisions," Modi said, speaking in Hindi.
"We will not sit quietly after taking this pain. We know how to crush terrorism," he added. "We have given full freedom to the military."
Among those taken into custody in the crackdown in Kashmire were senior figures in Jamaat-e-Islami ...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores... , the region's biggest religious organization, and the Hurriyat Conference, a coalition of local political parties.
Jamaat and Hurriyat Conference both strongly support MoslemKashmire's right to choose whether it wants to be part of India or Pakistain, which have been fighting over the region since independence in 1947.
"Police and other agencies launched a mass arrest drive and raided many houses in the valley with dozens of... central and district-level leaders locked away Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try! ," Jamaat said in a statement, adding that those detained included central leader Abdul Hamid Fayaz.
'ARBITRARY MOVE'
Police linked the arrests to security preparations for upcoming elections in India and a Supreme Court hearing on Monday on a challenge to a constitutional provision that gives Kashmiris special rights to property and jobs in the territory.
But the arrests drew widespread criticism from Kashmirepoliticians.
"Fail to understand such an arbitrary move which will only precipitate matters," Mehbooba Mufti, a pro-India former chief minister said on Twitter. "You can imprison a person but not his ideas."
"Such illegal and coercive measures against Kashmiris are futile and will not change realities on ground," wrote Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, an influential separatist leader, on Twitter.
Businesses across Kashmire were shut on Saturday, some in protest at the arrests and with others fearing conflict between India and Pakistain.
Many in Kashmire are wary of a military strike over the suicide bomb and residents in several areas reported unusual military air activity on Friday night.
Authorities did not comment on the reported fighter aircraft and helicopters flying over the territory.
Pakistain's Prime Minister Imran Khan ... aka Taliban Khan, who ain't the brightest knife in the national drawer... has vowed retaliation if his country is attacked. In a letter to the UN Security Council released Saturday, Pak Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Wormtongue Qureshi accused India of "warmongering".
[AlAhram] More than 100 separatists in Kashmire were detained in overnight raids, police officials said on Saturday, as part of a crackdown on groups that might cause trouble ahead of nationwide elections set to be held by May.
The overnight arrests in the state included those of many senior members of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), an Islamic organization that wants Kashmire to be independent from India.
The arrests led to violent scenes in parts of Kashmire, with stone-throwing protestors met by police firing tear gas.
JeI’s leader, Dr Abdul Hamid Fayaz and Yasin Malik ...chairman of one of the two factions of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front. JKLF is a Kashmiri nationalist organization founded in Birmingham, UK in 1977. Branches weren't actually established in Kashmir for another ten years. It has the usual demands for separation of J&K from secular India so it can become an independent Islamic rathole. It seems to have no interest in Pak Kashmir breaking away to join it. In 1994 Malik renounced violence after he was released from jail and from that point he and his organization pursued peaceful means to impose their will on the region... , the head of Jammu Kashmire Liberation Front (JKLF) that wants independence from both India and Pakistain, were among those detained.
A front man for India’s home ministry did not respond to a request for comment on the arrests or troop deployments.
Next week India’s Supreme Court is also expected to hear a petition attempting to remove an article in the country’s constitution that prevents non-residents from moving to Jammu and Kashmire, the Indian state that contains Moslem-majority Kashmire. If passed it could further escalate tensions in the region.

[Aljazeera] Israeli police have arrested the head of the Islamic authority that oversees Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem following recent protests, an official from the authority said.
Religious Endowments Authority (Al Waqf) director Sheikh Abdul Azim Salhab was arrested early on Sunday as part of an overnight raid carried out by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, Mahdi Abdelhadi, a senior member of Al Waqf, said.
At least 13 other Palestinians have also been arrested, including Salhab's deputy, according to Maan news agency.
Al Waqf officials told Israeli daily Haaretz that Salhab's arrest was unusual.
"He's the most senior Jordanian figure in the [Palestinian] territories. 20 years ago [if] the police wanted to interrogate the mufti, they would call and invite him, but coming to a 75-year-old's home like that at 5am is unacceptable," the official was quoted as saying.
Israeli police confirmed the arrest on Sunday, and the Waqf later said police had released Salhab and prohibited him from entering the site for a week.
Israel just reopened part of the facility (the Golden Gate, also known as the Gate of Mercy) that had been locked off since 2003 because Hamas-linked staff were storing weapons and personnel there, and using it as a base to excavate and destroy archeological evidence of the Jewish presence on the Temple Mount going back to First Temple times.
The Waqf has seen a new infusion of activists recently as Jordan, its longtime patron and overseer, moved earlier this month to share control with local Jerusalem Palestinian leaders.
In mid-February, Jordan enlarged the Waqf’s council from 11 members to 18. For the first time, Palestinian Authority officials and religious leaders were installed in the body, which has historically been made up of individuals close to the Jordanian monarchy.
The Waqf council’s new membership reflects that shift. The new members include PA officials Hatem Abdel Kader and the PA’s governor in Jerusalem, Adnan al-Husayn; religious leaders Akrama Sabri, considered close to Turkey’s ruling AKP party, and the Mufti of Jerusalem Muhammad Hussein; and the president of Al-Quds University in East Jerusalem, Imad Abu Kishk.
[MindanaoExaminer] Abu Sayyaf militants, whose group has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, have threatened to execute two Indonesian and a Malaysian hostages, being held captive in southern Philippines is ransoms are not paid in exchange for their lives, Malaysian media reports said.
It said militants, who spoke in Bahasa Malaysia, released a video clip which showed the Indonesian hostages – believed to be Heri Ardiansyah, 19, and Hariadin, 45 – being guarded by gunmen. The Malaysian hostage, Jari Abdulla, 24, was not with the duo.
The captives, their eyes covered with black cloth and hands tied behind their back, made an emotional appeal for their government to save them. One militant even held a bolo on the neck of Hariadin as he spoke to the camera in forested area.
The video, reports said, surfaced several days after Abu Sayyaf gunmen phoned Jari’s wife, Nadin Junianti, saying that no Malaysian authorities or negotiators have contacted them to secure her husband’s release.
The gunmen said that her husband would face difficulties if there was no contact from Malaysia. They also asked her for telephone contacts of Malaysian journalists. Nadin has appealed to Malaysian authorities to help secure her husband’s release. She said it was second time the kidnap group had contacted her.
Malaysian media did not say how much ransoms the Abu Sayyaf is demanding for the safe release of the hostages. The militants are believed to be holding nearly a dozen captives, mostly foreigners. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah has said that they were working with their Philippines counterparts to secure the hostages’ release. The hostages were kidnapped at sea off Sandakan in Sabah on December 5, 2018.

[FARS via Zero] Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh revealed on Thursday that several American unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) flying above Syria and Iraq were remotely commandeered by the Iranian Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
"Seven to eight drones that had constant flights over Syria and Iraq were brought under our control and their intel was monitored by us and we could gain their first-hand intel," General Hajizadeh said in the Western Iranian city of Hamedan on Thursday.
Fars News Agency published a three-minute video taken on several different occasions by UAVs. Half of the content shows a General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper hacked by IRGC electronic warfare forces, then flown into the ground. The last segment of the video shows an American air strike targeting the crashed UAV.
The footage below shows IRGC’s penetration into United States Central Command, could be seen as evidence that supports General Hajizadeh’s claims. Single source, unvalidated reporting.

I wouldn't put it past Iranians to make false claims about this sort of thing but I also believe it would be unwise to underestimate them. There are those among them who aspire to become world class hackers on the level of the Chinese and Russians and they are not Arabs.

WASHINGTON — The stealth C.I.A. drone that crashed deep inside Iranian territory last week was part of a stepped-up surveillance program that has frequently sent the United States’ most hard-to-detect drone into the country to map suspected nuclear sites, according to foreign officials and American experts who have been briefed on the effort.

Hussein Qaedi, head of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) office for rescuing Yezidis, told Rudaw the 11 children have been taken to safety. In the coming days they will be reunited with their families, he said.
His office has documented more than 6,400 Yezidis ‐ mainly women and kiddies ‐ who were seized by ISIS when the group swept across northern Iraq in 2014.
More than 3,000 Yezidi women and kiddies are still unaccounted for.
On Friday, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) trucked dozens of civilians out of Baghouz ‐ the last significant territory held by the Islamic State group (ISIS).
Over the last two months, dozens of Yezidis have been freed from ISIS’ clutches.
