[UPI] U.S. aircraft launched several airstrikes that killed 62 al-Shabaab militants in Somalia over the weekend, military officials said Monday.
The attacks targeted known al-Shabaab encampments and the latest assessments show no civilians were injured or killed.
Al-Shabaab militants use the remote region as a safe haven to attack the people of Somalia.
"U.S. Africa Command and our Somali partners conducted these airstrikes to prevent terrorists from using remote areas as a safe haven to plot, direct, inspire or recruit for future attacks," U.S. Africa Command said in a statement. "In particular, the group uses portions of the southern and central Somalia to plot and direct terror attacks, steal humanitarian aid, extort the populace to fund its operations and shelter radical terrorists."
On Saturday, U.S. aircraft killed 34 militants. On Sunday another 28 were killed, U.S. Africa Command said. *BOOM*

[RADIOSHABELLE] A huge kaboom was heard on Sunday noon in Mogadishu, the Somali capital amid tight security measures that have been in place in the past few months.
Local Police are investigating a blast resulted from an bomb planted under a car seat that detonated in downtown Mogadishu. No injuries were reported.
No group has immediately claimed the responsibility for the attack which shattered a period of calm in Mogadishu, which is stabilizing after nearly 25 years of chaotic violence.
The Somali government has deployed additional police personnel on the main roads to prevent Al-Shabaab ... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... from carrying out more attacks in the city.

In a statement on Sunday, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Operation Lafiya Dole, disclosed that the myrmidons, on Dec. 14, attempted to infiltrate the community, disguising as a humanitarian assistance team.
Nwachukwu said that the Lions of Islam took advantage of the ongoing distribution of relief items in the community and opened fire on troops’ location.
He revealed that another set of Lions of Islam on mounted gun truck engaged the troops in fierce gun duel, adding that the troops successfully repelled the attack.
Nwachukwu said: "Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, located at Gudumbali in northern Borno, on Friday Dec. 14, repelled infiltration attempt by suspected Boko Haram murderous Moslems that disguised as humanitarian assistance team.
"The murderous Moslems took advantage of the ongoing distribution of relief materials at Gudumbali and opened fire on troops’ location, which was followed by rapid fire from other murderous Moslems in gun trucks along Gudumbali-Kukawa axis.
"The troops, however, fought gallantly and out maneuvered the attackers inflicting heavy casualties on them.
"Unfortunately, a soldier paid the supreme price during the encounter and one other maimed in action, while a Cobra Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) and a truck belonging to the unit were damaged."
The army spokesperson added that the troops recovered bodies of some of the neutralised terrorists, large quantity of ammunition and 8 Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG) charges.
According to him, the troops have been reinforced and normality restored to the area.

The army officially said it had repelled the attack, in which it said one soldier was killed and another was injured. Militants opened fire on troops while aid materials were being distributed in Gudumbali. "The troops, however, fought gallantly and outmanoeuvred the attackers inflicting heavy casualties on them. Unfortunately, a soldier paid the supreme price during the encounter, while another was maimed in action," the statement read.
In late November, about 100 soldiers were killed by ISIS Takfiri Death Eaters who attacked an army base in Metele, Borno.

[PRESSTV] Saudi Arclight airstrikes and fierce festivities have shaken the outskirts of Yemen's Hudaydah despite a UN-brokered ceasefire that Yemenis already feared could collapse at any moment.
Residents were hoping that the ceasefire reached in Sweden Thursday would provide them a respite after months of festivities which have seen a push by Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... and the United Arab Emirates to seize Hudaydah thwarted.
But heavy festivities broke out on the outskirts of Hudaydah overnight following fresh attempts by Saudi and Emirati troops and their mercenaries to advance into the city amid aerial bombings.
A military source loyal to Yemen's former Saudi-backed regime told AFP that least 29 fighters, including 22 Houthis, had been killed on Saturday night.
He also claimed that seven Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... fighters had been taken captive during an attack by pro-Saudi Lions of Islam in Hudaydah Province's Durayhimi district.
A Hudaydah resident said the fresh fighting was "fierce" and that the sounds of fighter jets, operated by Saudi Arabia and its allies, could be heard throughout the night until Sunday morning.
Yemen's army front man Brigadier Yahya Sare'e said on Saturday that dozens of Saudi air raids had targeted residential neighborhoods across the impoverished country and dropped cluster bombs on citizens' farms in Hudaydah.
In a statement carried by Yemen's official Saba news agency, Sare'e said Saudi mercenaries, supported by heavy shelling of artillery and rockets, had tried to infiltrate into Durayhimi from several directions.
"They tried to sneak into the positions of our forces but the army and Popular Committees responded, killing and wounding a number of them," he added.

[PULSE.NG] Police deployed teargas and water cannon after scuffles broke out Sunday as thousands of people answered a call by far-right groups to reject a UN migration pact.
Police said some 5,500 people rallied in Brussels' European quarter housing a number of EU institutions. Some held aloft banners bearing slogans including "Our people first" and "We have had enough, close the borders."
Police stepped in to disperse the crowd after projectiles and firecrackers were thrown, an AFP journalist on the scene reported.
Many marchers were supporters of the Vlaams Belang party, which opposes last week's signing of the UN accord in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh.

But NGOs have voiced doubts about its implementation both on the ground and the high seas.
Pope Francis on Sunday voiced his support for the agreement and urged the international community to show "responsibility, solidarity and compassion" in dealing with migrants colonists.

The convicts committed offences related to terrorism, attacked the armed forces and law enforcement agencies, abetted suicide kaboomers in the Christian Colony bombing near Beautiful Downtown Peshawar ...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. The sentences were handed down to the convicts after they were tried by special military courts. They confessed to their offences before a judicial magistrate and in their statements during the trial.

[PRESSTV] Tens of thousands of Paleostinians have attended a huge rally in the besieged Gazoo Strip to mark the 31st anniversary of the establishment of the Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, resistance movement.
Hamas was established in 1987 soon after the first Paleostinian Intifada or uprising broke out against the Israeli occupation. The movement has been administering Gazoo since 2007 when it scored a surprise parliamentary victory.
On Saturday, Hamas marked the anniversary of its foundation with a military parade featuring the Paleostinian resistance movement’s new defensive hardware.
Members of the group's military movement, the Izzddin al-Qassam Brigades, showcased various military vehicles and weapons.
The ceremony was held in the southern city of Khan Yunis in the Gazoo Strip which is ruled by the movement.
The movement's special units staged a march-past during which truck-mounted missile defense systems were driven through the streets.

Four other senior ISIS leaders were also killed including: Abdul Hamid al-Salmani who was in charge of transporting suicide bombers from Syria to Iraq and vice versa, the director of the terrorist organization’s operations room Omar Abdul Salman al-Fahdawi, who was charged with overseeing terrorist operations in Syria, Iraq and abroad, Shaker al-Hardani, known as Shaker Rocket, for overseeing the program of engineering effort to manufacture rockets within ISIS, Abu Saleh al-Obeidi responsible for security matters in the myrmidon group and Abu Hamza, a Yemeni national in charge of the so-called suicide bombers in Syria.

[PRESSTV] At least eight civilians have been killed and dozens more injured after an explosives-laden vehicle went kaboom! at a marketplace in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo.
The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the kaboom struck al-Hal market in the city of Afrin, situated 43 kilometers north of the picturesque provincial capital city of Aleppo, on Sunday afternoon.
The Britannia-based monitor group added that security forces have sealed off the attack scene, members of the so-called White Helmets are rushing to the area to provide help to the victims
The corpse count is expected to rise as some of the injured are in a critical condition.
No turban group has grabbed credit for the attack so far.
Afrin was captured in March this year from the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) by Ottoman Turkish armed forces and Ankara-backed Free Syrian Army ... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund... turbans.
