Another statement cited "preliminary findings" that 12 women and kiddies, all related, were killed in an airstrike on Sunday in the eastern Maidan Wardak province, also during an Afghan military operation.
"Ten of those killed were children whose ages ranged from 6 to 15," including eight girls, it said.
The UN said it was unclear whether the airstrikes were carried out by Afghan or NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Afghan Defence Ministry Spokesman Ghafor Ahmad Jawed said the operation in Maidan Wardak freed eight Afghan soldiers who had been kidnapped by the Taliban and killed 11 murderous Moslems. He said an investigation is underway into the reports of civilian casualties.
There was no immediate comment from Afghan officials on the reported airstrike in Kapisa province.
Commander Grant Neeley, a front man for United States forces in Afghanistan, said, "We are currently reviewing all operational, relevant and credible information regarding our operations in Wardak and Kapisa provinces, including information provided by our Afghan partners and local leaders."
Referring to civilian casualties, he said, "We take more care to avoid them than anyone else, ever."

[RADIOSHABELLE] A hunt for suspected al-Shabaab ... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... turbans who fled with gunshot wounds has been intensified in Taksile and Pandanguo, Lamu County, shortly after 10 other turbans were killed during an ambush on their hideout by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers on Monday morning.
During the 6.45am ambush, KDF officers were able to recover seven AK-47 rifles and assorted ammunition.
Security sources who talked to the Nation on condition of anonymity since they are not authorised to speak to the media said they expect the al-Shabaab corpse count to rise since several others fled with multiple injuries.
Emerging details on the attack also reveal that the killings were conducted by KDF officers who were forced to patrol on foot due to bad weather in the area currently.
Since Sunday, it has been raining heavily in the area and it is generally cloudy, a situation that forced the soldiers to conduct the patrols on foot instead of using choppers.
The attack was launched deep inside Boni Forest at Taksile which is about 25 kilometres from Pandanguo village in Lamu West.
"We were patrolling on foot and we spotted them deep inside the forest at a place called Taksile. We decided to attack them and an exchange of fire ensued for about half an hour. We managed to kill 10 of them while three of my colleagues were maimed," said an officer.

[RADIOSHABELLE] Security agencies hunting al-Shabaab ... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... gunnies who fled on Monday at Taksile in Pandanguo have cautioned hospitals in Lamu, Tana River, and Garissa counties against treating individuals with gunshot wounds.
On Monday, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers operating in Lamu am-bushed al-Shabaab gunnies at Taksile, deep inside Boni Forest, and killed 10 while others fled with gunshot wounds.
During the 6.45am attack, seven AK-47 rifles and assorted ammunition were recovered. Three KDF soldiers sustained injuries.
Speaking to Nation on Tuesday, Linda Boni Operation Director Joseph Kanyiri said security personnel in areas earmarked for the multi-agency operation are on high alert.
REPORT SUSPECTS
Mr Kanyiri said health facilities, especially those in Lamu, Tana River and Garissa, should report individuals seeking treatment with gunshot wounds to security agencies.
He said some of the bandidosgunnies who were maimed during the Monday attack might seek medical assistance from such facilities.
"The health facilities should also check on pharmaceuticals and bandages that may end up with the enemy to attend to gunshot wounds sustained in the attack. This goes to both public and private facilities," said Mr Kanyiri.
He added that the coppers were also processing details relating to the Monday incident, and called on citizens to cooperate with them.
"We must commend our coppers for the good work. The community should as well collaborate with our security officers by reporting any suspicious persons with gunshot wounds as well as those they suspect are a threat to security," said Mr Kanyiri.
The Linda Boni boss’ sentiments come a month after he cautioned locals, particularly those in counties covered by the multi-agency security operation, against harbouring al-Shabaab gunnies and giving them information that has to some extent enabled the bandidosgunnies to launch attacks in the region.

Ottoman Turkish President also said a Ottoman Turkish court, not politicians, will decide the fate of a American pastor Andrew Brunson whose detention on terrorism charges has roiled relations between Ankara and Washington.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Sept. 24 he was hopeful The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... would release evangelical pastor Brunson this month. He was moved to house arrest in July after being detained for 21 months.
"This is a judiciary matter. Brunson has been detained on terrorism charges ... On Oct 12 there will be another hearing and we don't know what the court will decide and politicians will have no say on the verdict," Erdogan said.
If found guilty, Brunson could be nabbed Please don't kill me! for up to 35 years. He denies the charges.
"As the president, I don't have the right to order his release. Our judiciary is independent. Let's wait and see what the court will decide," Erdogan said.
"The Brunson case is not even closely related to Turkey's economy. The current economic challenges have been exaggerated more than necessary and Turkey will overcome these challenges with its own resources," he added.
Turkey’s central bank raised its benchmark rate by a hefty 625 basis points this month, boosting the lira and possibly easing investor concern over Erdogan's influence on monetary policy.

[The National] A female Iraqi human rights ...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless... activist has been bumped off in Basra, deepening despair in the southern city which is reeling from a water poisoning scandal and months of demonstrations about poor public services.
Soad Al Ali was shot in the head by masked attackers who opened fire on her and a man, reportedly her husband, as they were getting into a car on Tuesday evening.
The man is receiving treatment in hospital. Video footage of the attack circulated on the internet, adding to a sense of chaos in Basra.
During the past two weeks, campaigners in the southern oil hub have been targeted on social media, with some receiving death threats.
Ms Ali's funeral was held on Wednesday after Iraq's Independent High Commissioner for Human Rights (IHCHR) opened a murder probe, calling on Baghdad's central government to investigate the crime.
"We are calling on the local and federal governments to be held responsible for protecting human rights activists and protesters unless they [activists] have crossed the law," Ali Al Bayati, a board member of the IHCHR told The National.
He said that the Basra branch of the IHCHR had been tasked with investigating the killing and reporting back on their findings.
There was no claim of responsibility for the attack, which came as protests resumed following a two-week halt.

Locals told Ma'an that the Israeli authorities summoned Aida Sidawi, a resident of the Old City of Jerusalem, for interrogation and banned her entry to al-Aqsa for two consecutive weeks.

[DAWN] A Thai court on Tuesday convicted nine young Moslem men from southern Thailand of planning to set off a boom-mobile in the capital, in a case in which many of the defendants said they were tortured into making false confessions.
The Criminal Court in Bangkok found all nine guilty of two offences belonging to an underground criminal group and conspiracy and sentenced each to four years’ imprisonment. Five defendants were acquitted.
At least seven of the 14 defendants said they had been tortured or otherwise physically abused in jug, but the presiding judge said the court considered their allegations baseless as the men did not provide any evidence and did not report the cases to police.
The case began when at least 50 Thai Moslems, mostly students at Bangkok’s Ramkhamhaeng University, were rounded up in joint police-military sweeps on Oct 10, 2016. They were released but 13 were re-locked away You have the right to remain silent... the following month along with an additional suspect.

[DAWN] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor.... beefed up its military positions in Syria’s rebel bastion of Idlib on Tuesday as the clock ticked down on a mid-October deadline to remove jihadists from the area.
Further complicating Turkey’s task, a war monitor said hundreds of members of the hard boyIslamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group were transferred by the regime to the northwestern region from eastern Syria.
Russia, the government’s main ally, and Turkey, the rebels’ top sponsor, agreed last week in Sochi on a plan meant to avert a large-scale regime offensive on Idlib.
The country’s last major rebel stronghold is home to around three million people, and the United Nations ...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly... had warned an assault could have sparked a humanitarian disaster on a scale yet unseen in the seven-year conflict.
The deal reached in the Russian resort puts the onus on Turkey, which is now expected to get jihadists to hand over their heavy weapons and vacate a U-shaped demilitarised zone around Idlib. Turkey already has 12 military "observation points" dotted across the province, and on Tuesday a correspondent saw a convoy of reinforcements after they crossed the border into Idlib.
Around 35 military vehicles travelled south down the main highway near the town of Saraqib after midnight.
The convoy was accompanied by pro-Ankara rebels of the National Liberation Front (NLF), who control part of the enclave on the Ottoman Turkish border.Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a jihadist alliance led by Syria’s former Al Qaeda affiliate, controls more than half of the rebel zone, while NLF fighters hold sway over most of the rest.
