[ARABNEWS] Jordan said on Monday that it thwarted a ISIS plot that included plans for a series of attacks last November on security installations, shopping malls and moderate religious figures, state media reported.
State news agency Petra said that the country’s intelligence department had tossed in the calaboose Book 'im, Mahmoud! 17 members of the cell and confiscated weapons and explosives that the murderous Moslem group had planned to use in the operation.
The statement said the cell had staged a series of bank robberies and car thefts to finance the plot, and manufactured homemade explosives from material bought at local markets. Members of the cell robbed banks in the cities of Russayfah and Zarqa, to the northeast of the capital Amman.
Investigations revealed that the terrorist cell had prepared comprehensive plans for executing its operations, conducted surveillance operations to examine targets, and developed a mechanism for carrying out their attacks.
Mahmoud Irdaizat, a retired Jordanian major general and a former director of the Center for Strategic Studies at the King Abdullah II Academy for Defense Studies, told Arab News on Monday that despite the terrorist militia’s defeat in Iraq and in Syria, it was still active ideologically and had sympathizers and supporters in many places.
"ISIS (ISIS) has collapsed geographically and its so-called Islamic state is pronounced dead in Iraq and in Syria, but it continues to be active in various places across the globe, be it in Jordan or in Sinai or even in the West.
"I don’t think we should just sit and relax after their (terrorists) collapse in djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... and Raqqa. Any reluctance to keep pressure on them would lead them to grow stronger again. What is needed now is a formulated international strategy to counter the terrorists’ ideology, with a collective international effort to persuade new generations not to embrace ISIS thought," he said.

[Ynet] Tasnin al-Assad contacted ISIS operative online, who instructed her to scout locations in Be'er Sheva for possible bombing; she was aided by Rahma al-Assad; the two also contacted east Jerusalem resident Ahmad Abu Ramila in effort to convince him to carry out New Year's Eve attack; all three planned to travel to Sinai to join ISIS.
The Shin Bet and the Israel Police have nabbed Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please! two 19-year-old Bedouin women suspected of planning to carry out terror attacks on behalf of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (ISIS), it was cleared for publication on Monday.
The two, Rahma al-Assad and Tasnin al-Assad, Israeli citizens from the Bedouin town of Lakiya, were arrested in December 2017.
According to the Shin Bet, over the last year the two planned to carry out a terror attack against Jews in Israel and considered various options to that end.
They were also in contact with ISIS-affiliated terror operatives from abroad and were instructed by some of these contacts to carry out tasks in preparation for an attack, according to the indictment against them.
Tasnin al-Assad allegedly used the Telegram app to talk to a man identifying as "Sheikh Qassim," an ISIS online operative. She purchased a SIM card especially to that end.
During their conversations, Sheikh Qassim broached the possibility of carrying out an attack in Israel, and Tasnin expressed willingness to aid him in that endeavor.
Sheikh Qassim asked Tasnin to examine the entrances and security arrangements at three Be'er Sheva locations: Ben-Gurion University, the Kaye Academic College of Education and the Central Bus Station.
Tasnin told her ISIS contact that many Moslems pass through the Be'er Sheva Central Bus Station on a daily basis, recommending against targeting that location as an attack there might harm them.
At some point, Tasnin contacted Rahma al-Assad and the two scouted Ben-Gurion University and the Kaye Academic College of Education to gather intelligence ahead of a planned bombing that entailed bringing a suitcase with explosives into one or both of these academic institutions.
The two women reached the conclusion the security arrangements in both locations were too strict to carry out such an attack.
The Shin Bet investigation further revealed the two women planned to travel to the Sinai Peninsula and join ISIS. To that end, they had passports issued.
They also posted content online praising ISIS as well as inciting to terrorism against Jews in general and Israel in particular.
The defendants also allegedly tried to convince 24-year-old Ahmad Abu Ramila from east Jerusalem
...who clearly was not Israeli, or the reporter would have said so...
to carry out a religiously-motivated attack on New Year's Eve.
Ramila was indicted for contact with a foreign agent, conspiring to commit a crime (membership in a terror organization), obstruction of justice and evidence tempering.
Ramila, according to the indictment, was a member of several Telegram groups affiliated with ISIS. He also allegedly planned to marry Tasnin and travel to Sinai with her to join ISIS.
When he became concerned of the possibility Rahma and Tasnin have been arrested, he deleted his conversations with them in an effort to cover his tracks.
But if he did not also delete his cookies and his history... Truly Israel is blessed in the caliber of her enemies.

[Independent] Syria's army stated that its air defenses had hit an Israeli aircraft and had intercepted some rockets fired at Syrian targets with their weapons storage buildings. The Israeli Air Force struck Syrian military positions east of Damascus in a series of overnight raids, the Syrian army said Tuesday.
In a statement by Syrian state news agency SANA, Israel jets flying inside Lebanese airspace fired several missiles towards the al-Qutaifa area at around 2:40 in the morning on Tuesday causing damage near the military site. According to the statement by the General Command, the regime's air defenses intercepted the missiles and hit one of the planes.
Israel is also said to have fired two surface-to-surface missiles from the Golan Heights at 3:04 AM and another four missiles from around the area of Tiberias. The Syrian army statement claimed that all missiles were intercepted but that some damage was caused as a result of the interception.
"The Israeli aggression affirms again the support of the occupying entity to terrorist organizations in Syria and its desperate attempts to raise their morale after the painful blows they received in Harasta in eastern Ghouta in Damascus countryside and the sweeping victories the Syrian Arab Army is achieving in Idlib," read the army statement said.
Local sources reported the sounds of explosions near long-range missile warehouses and other military compounds in the town of Qutayfah, the news website Qasioun reported.

Raids Sunday left "at least 21 dead, including eight children and 11 members of the same family" west of the town of Sinjar in the southeast of the province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
"Regime and Russian strikes are continuing today on several parts of Idlib" province, Rami Abdel Rahman, the head of the Britannia-based monitoring organization, told AFP.
Russian-backed regime forces launched an operation on the edge of Idlib province in the last days of 2017 and have retaken villages every day since.
After the collapse of ISIS group in both Syria and Iraq late last year, Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Lord of the Baath... ’s regime is bent on restoring its grip over the country.
Idlib province, which borders The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... , is almost entirely controlled by anti-government forces that are dominated by an outfit known as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
An kaboom on Sunday in the city of Idlib at a base for the group Ajnad al-Qawqaz made up of fighters from the Caucasus that operates alongside HTS, left at least 34 dead, including 19 civilians, the Observatory said.
The initial corpse count for the attack, the origins of which remain unclear, was 23 but the number went up on Monday when more bodies were found in the wreckage.
Abdel Rahman said the casualty count could yet rise because more victims were believed to be buried under the rubble and many of the maimed were at death's door.
