[Reuters] DALLAS - A gunman killed seven people at a home in a Dallas suburb on Sunday evening before being shot dead by police called to the scene, authorities said.
The shooting took place in Plano, a suburb north of Dallas.
David Tilley, a spokesman for the Plano Police Department, said the shooter was killed by the first responding officer after an exchange of gunfire. The officer was not injured.
Seven people were found dead in the Plano home.
Two additional shooting victims were taken to a local hospital. Their condition was unknown.
"We’re trying to put all the puzzle pieces together," Tilley said.
There was no information yet on the relationship between the suspect and the victims. Local media reports that the shooting occurred at a Dallas Cowboys viewing party could not be confirmed either.

A neighbor said a friend of one of the homeowners said the violence had been sparked by a domestic dispute, but police have provided no details about the relationships between the victims and the gunman. The couple identified in public records as the homeowners sought a divorce in July.

From the updated story at Snomble Throluter4608's link:
Relatives confirmed to WFAA-TV (Channel 8) on Monday that one of the victims was 27-year-old Meredith Hight and that her estranged husband was the shooter.
"She was a cook, and a quite fine one, and she loved hosting friends and families," said her mother, Debbie Lane. "This was her first opportunity to do it after the divorce, and he didn't take it well."
A small photo of the pretty, blond Ms Hight can now be seen at the link.
[MIAMIHERALD] As Hurricane Irma lashed Florida with heavy winds and rain, TV stations captured groups of people breaking into stores.
Footage from WPLG Local 10 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, shows multiple people breaking through the front window Simon's Sportswear, entering the store and walking out with various items.
According to WPLG Local 10, the looters had also broken into other stores in the nearby area, including Footlocker and CashAmerica Pawn Store.
The Fort Lauderdale police department later arrested 9 people related to the incident.

[SPORTS.YAHOO] At least Los Angeles now has two NFL teams to not care about.
There should be some excitement for both teams in Los Angeles as this season starts. The Chargers just moved there, and every other team in professional sports history that has relocated has been greeted warmly by their new city. Not the Chargers, who didn’t come close to selling out their temporary 30,000-seat soccer stadium in Carson for the preseason.
There should be some excitement for the Rams too. Last season wasn’t very good, but new coach Sean McVay was hired and there were good results for second-year quarterback Jared Goff in the preseason. Also, fans get excited for just about any team starting a new season. And for Week 1 of just the second season for the Rams back in Los Angeles, it looked like the Coliseum was maybe half full.

In five years when Brady, Rogers, E. Manning, and Brees are gone, the NFL will hit a slide and stay there for a bunch of years.
It's their turn. The NFL has had a good run over the last fifteen or so years but every one of the big four goes through peaks and valleys. The NFL is due and their commissioner is accelerating the crash.

It's been said that sports (and other entertainment) is an escape from the day-to-day politics. Now that sports (NFL) have become "political" (see also ESPN's demise), sports are no longer the escape people temporarily desire.

Not only that, I heard talk of having teams in Europe again. NFL Europe was a massive failure, yet the suits / brain dead commissioner Roger Goodell keep bringing this crap up. The NFL deserves a few years in the wilderness.

If you move to as city with alot of low-income residents for a demographic, chances are you won't get full-stadiums with ticket/concession prices as they are. I can't imagine the Chargers or Rams staying financially afloat beyond the decade.
I believe, Spanos will sell the team in a couple years to a conglomerate interest that will move the team BACK to San Diego.

[SPORTS.YAHOO] Seattle's Michael Bennett and Oakland's Marshawn Lynch joined other NFL athletes Sunday in protesting the treatment of minorities by US law enforcement during the first weekend of the regular season.
Both Bennett and Lynch remained seated during The Star-Spangled Banner before the Seahawks and Raiders season-opening games as part of a continuing wave of protests that began last year with former the Socialist paradise of San Francisco ...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964... 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Bennett sat as teammate Justin Britt stood next to him with his hand on his shoulder while another teammate, Thomas Rawls, stood on Bennett's other side before the game against the Green Bay Packers.
Bennett's brother, Martellus, who plays for the Packers, stood at the end of the Green Bay bench with his right fist in the air.
Two weeks ago, Bennett was detained on a Las Vegas street for about 10 minutes by police who were investigating the firing of gunshots in the area.
Bennett has alleged that he had been the victim of racial discrimination after being threatened at gunpoint by the police. He said they "singled" him out for "nothing more than being a black man in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Police denied the charge and said Bennett was detained briefly because he was spotted running from the police before jumping over a wall. Bennett was handcuffed but police did not arrest or charge him.
Raiders runningback Lynch also sat during the anthem just like he did a number of times during the preseason. Lynch, unlike Bennett, has declined to discuss his reasons for doing so.
In Cleveland, kept in touch with the world by Obamaphone, ...was ruled by a Democrat machine from 1942 through 1971. After the river caught fire during the administration of Carl Stokes they tried a Republican, then went back to being Democrats when the party hacked up Dennis Kucinich ... , players linked arms with police, military and firefighters during the anthem before the Browns' opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. No players knelt during the song.
Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins and Los Angeles Rams linebacker Robert Quinn also raised their fists in protest before their games started.
Kaepernick remains unsigned after trying unsuccessfully to land a job with another team following his release from the 49ers.

IMAO, this is no different than any other job where you are expected to show up on time, wear clothes you wouldn't normally and do what you're told. [DAWN] Government cargo planes flew in supplies and troops began distributing boxes of food to jittery survivors of an 8.1-magnitude earthquake that destroyed a large part of Juchitan and killed at least 37 people in the district, even as officials on Sunday raised the nationwide corpse count to 90.
Some people continued to sleep outside, fearful of more collapses, as strong aftershocks continued to rattle the town, including a magnitude 5.2 jolt early Sunday. Some prompted rescue workers to pause in their labour.
Local officials said they had counted nearly 800 aftershocks of all sizes since late Thursday's big quake, and the US Geological Survey counted nearly 60 with a magnitude of 4.5 or greater.
Teams of soldiers and federal police armed with shovels and sledgehammers fanned out across neighbourhoods in Juchitan to help demolish damaged buildings. Dump trucks choked some narrow streets as they began hauling away the many tons of rubble.

[Telegraph] British couple have been hiding in a rat infested bathroom with no water for five days as the Caribbean island they were living on descends into lawlessness in the wake of Hurricane Irma, their family have said.
Jos Smart, 26, and his girlfriend Julia Taylor, 30, say they have been abandoned by the British Government and are too afraid to leave the half destroyed hotel that they found refuge in amid reports of looting and violence.
The Category 5 storm hit the island on Wednesday and it has since been placed under curfew to try and restore order.
British Troops and police officers have been sent to help the British Virgin Islands (BVI), but families of those on St Maarten, which is Dutch and shares the island with the French St Martin to the north, say that because it is not a British territory their loved ones have been abandoned. Perhaps because the responsibility for rescuing people from Dutch territory lies with the Dutch? Well, Julia does appear to be quite a legitimate distraction from the weather.

...You know, something I remember from Hurricane Hugo was that the VI - ours and everybody else's - pretty much went full Mad Max afterwards, and that I made a promise to myself to never visit the place. Glad to see I made the right call.

The airports were destroyed in St. Martin, Tortola, and St. Thomas so the KY National Guard, with units that do not need to land, were rescuing people and transferring anyone with a passport to Puerto Rico. Jamaicans with passports but no US visas were trying to get off island and I think they decided to figure it out in PR. I don't think people realize the extent of devastation after a direct hit from a Cat 5 storm, with no communication or power on islands that must import everything, but these former colonies also had the prisons destroyed with about 150 prisoners running loose in the BVI. All homes and vegetation were destroyed, including the VG Yacht Harbor for mega yachts THE Aga Khan was fond of, & the mosque in Roadtown. 'Left Behind' in the Caribbean with machete wielding thugs is truly a terrifying thought.
[DAILYCALLER] Portland police will no longer maintain a database of suspected gang members, due to concerns that the vast majority of people with the gang label are racial minorities.
Starting Oct. 15, the Portland Police Bureau will end the 20-year practice of issuing gang member designations, which police say can lead to "unintended consequences" and a lifelong stigma even for those who have given up the gang lifestyle. Officials intend to notify the approximately 300 people on the gang list that the bureau will purge all records related to the designations, The Oregonian reported.
"There are still criminal gang members. That doesn’t go away because we don’t have a gang designation," said Capt. Mike Krantz, according to The Oregonian. "We’re not pretending gang violence doesn’t exist. We’re just taking this one thing away."
City officials and community activists had long urged the bureau to stop attaching the gang designation to criminal suspects, claiming the practice disproportionately impacted people of color. A review of police data by The Oregonian last year found that 81 percent of the "criminal gang affiliates" in Portland’s database were racial or ethnic minorities.
"This is too long coming," said Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, who is also the city’s police commissioner. "It was the right thing to do."

The Russian tank’s manufacture Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) displayed publicly for the first time a new version of T-90 main battle tank during the demonstration of newest armored vehicles in honor of the tanker’s day on the territory of the 33rd combined-arms training range.
The upgraded version of T-90 main battle tank is called T-90M. The new tank will likely feature many of the technologies developed for Russia’s revolutionary T-14 Armata.
The T-90M will also incorporate advanced defensive systems such are slat armor, active protection systems and new reactive armor. The T-90 main battle tank is an armed with a fully-stabilized longer 2A46M-4 125 mm smoothbore gun. This gun is also used to launch 9K119 Refleks (NATO designation AT-11 Sniper-B) anti-tank guided missiles, in the same manner, as ordinary munitions.
Secondary armament consists of a coaxial PKT 7.62 mm machine gun and a roof mounted remotely-controlled NSVT 12.7 mm machine gun, used against both ground and air targets. The new 125mm tank gun that is destined to be the main gun for the T-14 Armata is a more durable version of the current gun. The barrel also is longer than the old model, which will increase velocity and range, but to what extent is anyone's guess. The Russians ain't sayin'.

[DAWN] North Korea illegally exported coal, iron and other commodities worth at least $270 million to China and other countries including India, Malaysia and Sri Lanka in the six-month period ending in early August in violation of UN sanctions, UN experts say.
The experts monitoring sanctions said in a report released Saturday that Kim Pudge Jong-un ...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished... 's government continues to flout sanctions on commodities as well as an arms embargo and restrictions on shipping and financial activities.
They said North Korea is also reportedly continuing prohibited nuclear activities with weapons-grade fissile material production at the Yongbyon nuclear complex, construction and maintenance at the Punggye-ri nuclear test site, and at a uranium mine in Pyongsan.
The eight-member panel of experts said it is also investigating the widespread presence of North Koreans in Africa and the Middle East, particularly in Syria, "including their involvement in prohibited activities."

[Iran Press TV] US Republican Senator John Maverick McCain ... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution. As an ordinary citizen he greased the infamous hookers peeing on the Obamabed in Moscow dossier in an attempt to smear President Trump... has warned North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un ...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished... against attacking America and its allies, saying such aggression will lead to the Eastern Asian country’s "extinction."
Washington needs to "make sure that Kim Jong-un knows that if he acts in an aggressive fashion, the price will be extinction," McCain told CNN on Sunday.
The head of Senate Armed Services Committee said Washington should strengthen its missile defenses in South Korea while putting more pressure on China to stop the North’s development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.
He also said that the administration of President Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... should start considering deploying nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula.
"The [South] Korean defense minister just a few days ago called for nuclear weapons to be redeployed," he said, saying that the call "ought to be seriously considered."
South Korean Defense Minister Song Young-moo said that he and his American counterpart James Mattis had already discussed the nuclear deployment in the South, which would be a first in over 25 years.
He also called on Washington to move "strategic assets" like US aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines, and B-52 bombers to the peninsula.
McCain was also fond of the idea, saying that the US needed to further encircle the North by expanding its military presence in the region.

...Something I've said for a very long time is that since the end of WWII, the tradition in the West has been that if you want to riot you can do so pretty secure in the knowledge that the worst you'll face is maybe an overnight in a crowded holding area and you'll be a hero in your little circle afterwards for Standing Up To The Man(TM).
A whiff of grapeshot, however, tends to put the fear of God in these idiots. Makes you wonder how much of the reaction to the death of the young lady in Charlottesville was actual, stark, screaming, sudden terror at the possibility that this is no longer a game - that if you want to Resist, then there's a price.

Chris Froome pulls off the rare Tour de France / Vuelta win in the same year, but I'm mentioning something much more sinister / idiotic I spotted when they were handing out the trophies at the end of the race.
There was a building in the background from which some jagoffs hung a fairly big banner - REFUGEES WELCOME, and the TV crew (Olympic Channel, formerly NBC Universal) made it a point to show it a second time for about twenty seconds. To me, it's just another data point on how far Europe's political 'leadership' slid into this complete insanity.
- Navy Admiral William Moran gave testimony about two warship accidents
- Moran said budget constraints and hectic pace of operations no excuse
- Accidents involving the USS John S. McCain in August and the USS Fitzgerald in June resulted in the deaths of 17 sailors
- Moran urged congress during his testimony to stop providing defense budgets by way of stopgap measures
- Wide-ranging investigation found that more than a third of warships based in Japan had expired certifications
Four Navy vessels have been involved in accidents this year in the Pacific
- Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin, a three-star officer, was relieved of duty after the McCain crash

...If just ONE sailor implicated in either one of these incidents turns out to be under trained (or not trained at all) but they're 100% up to date on their Social Actions training, then people need to go to jail for gundecking the training, and SECNAV needs to take the opportunity to shut down the stupidity - "People are dead and ships are crippled because we can't get our priorities straight. Once we've done that, we can talk about social actions."
Would be nice, but not sure it's even possible now.
