[GP] On Wednesday Connecticut Governor Daniel Malloy issued a memo to his state’s authorities, telling them to ignore federal law regarding illegal immigrants.
Malloy declared Connecticut a sanctuary state.
On Friday a previously deported illegal alien murdered his girlfriend and kidnapped her six year-old daughter. Oscar Obedio Hernandez, an illegal alien from El Salvador, was arrested on Friday night.
"Oscar Obedio Hernandez, a citizen of El Salvador, was issued a Final Order of Removal by an immigration judge on Oct. 29, 2013," said spokesman Shawn Neudauer. "He was removed from the United States by ICE officers in Hartford, CT on Nov. 27, 2013. He has prior felony convictions from 2002 for assault and threatening, as well as several misdemeanor convictions. ICE has placed an immigration detainer with the Bridgeport (Connecticut) Police Department."
Gov. Dan Malloy’s spokeswoman, Kelly Donnelly, issued a statement today regarding the incident between Hernandez and the ICE.
"Our local laws are designed to protect our residents and also ensure that those in harm’s way feel safe seeking help from law enforcement. That’s why convicted violent felons are detained for deportation under our state laws that the governor has consistently and strongly supported." said Donnelly.
An Amber Alert was issued early Friday morning for Aylin Sofia Hernandez, 6, from Bridgeport. Police say her mother, Nidia Gonzalez, 26, was stabbed to death in a domestic dispute with her father. The mother’s female friend is in critical condition after the stabbing, police said.

The bill's main backer, Representative Jason Villalba of Dallas, says the bill is to help prevent attacks like the ones on officers in Dallas, San Antonio and Baton Rouge.
“Will it end attacks on police officers? No,” he said. “But will it start the process of beginning that process. Yes, we do believe it will.”
Mr. Villalba would be a great first Latino Governor of Texas.
[AA.TR] Chairman of the Crimean Tatar Parliament, or Mejlis, Refat Chubarov said on Saturday that Ukraine "should be firm and persistent" to take back Crimea.
Giving a speech at a conference themed "Crimea under occupation: Consequences for Ukraine and the world", Chubarov -- as quoted by Ukraine's official news agency Ukrinform -- Crimea "should be returned to Ukraine primarily, by diplomatic, political, and economic means."
"However, some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves... Ukraine should incite our partners to implement such strategy to make it successful," Chubarov said.
The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... 's ambassador to Kiev, Yonet Can Tezel also participated in the conference, saying Turkey continues its stance to support Ukraine's territorial integrity.
"Turkey will continue to support Crimean Tatars, who are people of Crimea," said envoy Tezel.
Kiev hosts the two-day international forum on Feb. 25-26.
February 26-27 mark the third anniversary of the seizure of Crimea's regional parliament and Simferopol's airport by gunnies, believed to be Russian special forces, which was followed by Moscow's unilateral annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

Aint going to happen.
Now get on with the real issue, which is how to partition Eastern Ukraine.
Diplomatic hissy-fit and new details of the investigation.
Malaysia said Saturday that it would issue an arrest warrant for a North Korean diplomat if he refuses to cooperate with the investigation into the deadly attack on Kim Jong Un's exiled half brother.
While I understand the desire, I think international law prohibits arresting the diplomat, even for murder. The most you can do is declare him persona non grata. And then go to war. But I really, really, dislike how it is that I have to defend the Norks here.
The investigation has unleashed a serious diplomatic fight between Malaysia and North Korea, a prime suspect in the Feb. 13 killing of Kim Jong Nam at Kuala Lumpur's airport.
Malaysian police said Friday that the banned chemical weapon VX nerve agent was used to kill Kim, raising the stakes significantly in a case that has broad geopolitical implications. Experts say the nerve agent was almost certainly produced in a sophisticated state weapons laboratory and is banned under an international treaty. But North Korea never signed that treaty, and has spent decades developing a complex chemical weapons program.
If we had a CIA worth anything at all, that factory would suffer a mysterious, tragic explosion...
Kim was not an obvious political threat to his estranged half brother, Kim Jong Un. But he may have been seen as a potential rival in North Korea's dynastic dictatorship, even though he had lived in exile for years. North Korea has denied any role in the attack.
Seeing as the rumor mill said that Nam was being groomed as a "just in case" by the Chinese, one can see how the grossly obese Fat Boy would feel threatened...
Malaysia said earlier in the week that Hyon Kwang Song, a second secretary at the North Korean Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, was wanted for questioning. Abdul Samah Mat, the police chief leading the investigation, said authorities would give the diplomat "reasonable" time to come forward. If he doesn't, police will issue a notice compelling him to do so.
"And if he failed to turn up ... then we will go to the next step by getting a warrant of arrest from the court," Abdul Samah told reporters.
Malaysia hasn't directly accused the North Korean government of being behind the attack, but officials have said four North Korean men provided two women with poison to carry it out.
That and the VX itself are pretty strong clues.
On Saturday, the Indonesian suspect, Siti Aisyah, said she had been paid the equivalent of $90 for what she believed was a harmless prank. Aisyah, 25, said she had been introduced to people who looked like Japanese or Koreans who asked her to play a prank for a reality show, Indonesia's Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia, Andriano Erwin, said.
Asked whether she knew what was on her hands at the time of the attack, Erwin said: "She didn't tell us about that. She only said that it's a kind of oil, baby oil, something like that."
Aisyah has said previously that she was duped into the attack, but Malaysian police say the suspects knew what they were doing. Experts say the women must have taken precautions so the nerve agent wouldn't kill them.
There is that. VX is rather indiscriminate in who it kills...
An odorless chemical with the consistency of motor oil, VX is an extremely powerful poison, with an amount no larger than a few grains of salt enough to kill. It can be inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through the skin. Then, in anywhere from a few seconds to a few hours, it can cause a range of symptoms, from blurred vision to a headache. Enough exposure leads to convulsions, paralysis, respiratory failure and death.
The killing of Kim Jong Nam took place amid crowds of travelers at Kuala Lumpur's airport and appeared to be a well-planned hit. Kim died on the way to a hospital, within hours of the attack.
Also Saturday, police confirmed that a raid earlier in the week on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur was part of the investigation. Abdul Samah, the police official, did not specify what authorities found there, but said items were being tested for traces of any chemicals.

So what is the nefarious connection between Malaysia and NORK? Drugs, money laundering, banned war materiel, worn out tires for powering the NORK narrow gauge steam engines, all of the above? Who would want a NORK embassy in one's country?

The authorities further reported that one of the women suspected of applying the nerve agent experienced some physical symptoms of VX-poisoning.[24] The director of a non-proliferation research program of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey stated that VX fumes would have killed the suspected attackers even if they had been wearing gloves, suggesting that the VX was applied as two non-fatal components that would mix to form VX only on the victim's face.

America’s crude trade balance is changing. On the import front, the decision by petrostates to cut production (with the intention of erasing a global oil glut to help induce a price rebound) is expected to reduce the amount of oil the U.S. buys from Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Those OPEC members have been constraining output since the beginning of the year, but because it takes roughly six weeks to ship crude from the Middle East to the Americas, we haven’t yet started to see a reduction in supplies from the region.
Now, however, analysts are expecting Saudi and Iraqi imports to start declining as those cuts start to make American oil more attractive to U.S. refiners than their Middle East competitors. The EIA explains:
[R]ecent market developments, including the November 2016 agreement among certain members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to reduce production and the recent widening of price differences between Dubai/Oman crude oil and U.S.-produced Mars crude oil, suggest that U.S. imports from Saudi Arabia and Iraq are now becoming less attractive to U.S. refiners. [...]
After OPEC announced crude oil production cuts in late November 2016, the relative price of Dubai/Oman crude oil rose because the supply reductions pledged by Middle East producers disproportionately affected medium, sour crudes. In January 2017, the price premium of Dubai/Oman over Mars reached its highest level in more than a year, likely encouraging U.S. refiners to process more domestic medium, sour barrels while reducing imports of comparable grades from the Middle East.
Of course, U.S. oil production has a pivotal role to play in all of this. The shale revolution was the chief reason behind the market oversupply that necessitated these petrostate cuts in the first place, and our rising oil output isn’t just changing how we’re buying crude, it’s also changing how we’re selling it. As Bloomberg reports, our exports are surging to a 24-year high:

I thought we couldn't drill our way out of our problems.
[Paychex] Next year, millions more U.S. workers than in 2016 will pay higher Social Security taxes thanks to the Social Security Administration's (SSA's) 2017 tax rate and wage base. The SSA has raised the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security payroll tax by 7.3 percent to $127,200--up by $8,700 from the $118,500 maximum for 2016 and 2015.
The SAA notes, "Of the estimated 173 million workers who will pay Social Security taxes in 2017, about 12 million will pay more because of the increase in the taxable maximum." The adjustment, effective Jan. 1, is the largest one-year bump since 1983, and stems from the government's estimate of real-wage growth.
When it happens at about the same time each year.... is it still news ?

Take more on the front-end, pay less on the back-end. Sorry, you missed the ceiling again this year. Receiving maximum benefits requires full payment. The algorithmics of a ponzi scheme.

tax rate is 7.65% for employee; 15.3% for self employed
so max SS is ~ $9,730 and $19,460 respectively

Some of you may be wondering what this article is doing in the War on Terror section. But when the government steals money from every paycheck you ever earn with vague promises of maybe someday, if you're nice, they might give some of it back to you, that's terror.

[Wash Times] After months of protest-driven delays, the Dakota Access pipeline is now running ahead of schedule and expected to be ready to deliver oil as early as next month.
Attorneys for Energy Transfer Partners said in a court-ordered status report Thursday that the final 1,100-foot section is nearly finished, which would enable the 1,172-mile, four-state pipeline to begin operations months ahead of previous estimates.
"Dakota Access reports that the pilot hole is complete," said the report filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court. "The company is currently reaming the hole -- i.e., making it larger in order to accept the pipe. As of now, Dakota Access estimates and targets that the pipeline will be complete and ready to flow oil anywhere between the week of March 6, 2017 and April 1, 2017."
Standing in the way are the Standing Rock Sioux and Cheyenne River Sioux, which have filed a lawsuit to stop the project pending the completion of an environmental impact study by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The tribes have also asked for "meaningful pre-decisional government-to-government consultation."
U.S. District Court Judge James A. Boasberg approved Thursday an expedited briefing schedule, setting a March 23 deadline for the corps and Energy Transfer Partners to respond to the tribes’ request for summary judgment.

The protests almost succeeded. It was a good strategic plan - don't mount a significant protest until the last second (or 1000') after all the capital is spent, then use any excuse to delay completion and cash flow so the project will go bankrupt. Makes me wonder who would have bought the project in bankruptcy - Burlington Northern RR?

OTOH, the lame stream media has desensitized the majority to the antics and stratagems of the always aggrieved protesters. Most of us glance at the videos and mutter to ourselves "what is it this time? The wrong toppings on their dessert?" and move on. Nobody in the middle is swayed by the agitprop theater anymore.

[BBC] One dead, two injured in Heidelberg car attack
A man has died and two other people were hurt after a man drove into a pedestrian area in Heidelberg, Germany.
The attacker, said to have been armed with a knife, was shot, injured and arrested by police in a brief standoff after fleeing the scene on foot.
His motives are unclear, but there are no indications this was a terrorist attack, police say.
In December an Islamist attacker drove a lorry into a Berlin Christmas market, killing 12 people and injuring 49.
In Heidelberg the attacker, described by police as a 35-year-old German "without a migration background", drove what is thought to be a rental car into pedestrians in one of the city's central squares, injuring three people. One of them, a 73-year-old German man, later died in hospital.
The attacker then left the car but was tracked down, shot and seriously injured by police near an old swimming pool.
Police were unable to confirm local media reports that the attacker was mentally disturbed. He is thought to have acted alone.
The two injured people were a 32-year-old Austrian national and a 29-year-old Bosnian woman, police said. Their injuries are said to be minor and they have been discharged from hospital.

The man who drove his rental car into a pedestrian zone in Heidelberg in southwestern Germany, will not be released from police custody anytime soon. On Sunday, an arrest warrant was issued against the 35-year-old German, charging him with one case of murder and three cases of attempted murder.
According to the press release, the 35-year-old man is a university student who lived in Heidelberg and has no criminal record. He had rented the vehicle used in the attack two weeks previously.
The knife the man was carrying when he fled the scene was a standard kitchen knife. He reportedly did not comply with the officers' requests to put down the knife when police caught up with him a few hundred meters from the crashed car.
According to the police statement, a policeman fired his gun after the suspect ignored repeated calls to put down the knife and began charging at the officers who had unsuccessfully tried to stop him with pepper spray.

President Trump can only do so much to roll back Obamacare with his phone and his pen. There will have to be a bill or a series of bills from Congress for him to sign. Given that politics is the art of the possible, it is guaranteed that none of them will be perfect -- but it is likely all will be better than Obamacare. More details about this starting point for negotiations at the link.

The 18 Army officers in the Special Forces Qualification Course, or "Q-course," were visiting the National Security Council in early February, as a normal part of the course.
But this time, Deputy Assistant to the President Sebastian Gorka, who was scheduled to speak to the students, had suggested that they meet the president.
The plan was to take them into the Roosevelt Room in the West Wing of the White House, but Trump decided to invite them into the Oval Office, to take pictures with them for their families.
