MOGADISHU -- At least 22 people were killed after Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab gunmen stormed a hotel popular with Somalia government officials and foreigners on Friday afternoon, Garowe Online reports. US-trained Special Forces broke the deadly standoff that left six attackers dead on Saturday morning according to officials.
The siege lasted more than 12 hours, showing a potent insurgency in Somalia which is struggling to contain guerilla warfare to which was reverted by beleaguered militants as a result of serious setbacks on the front-lines.
Al Shabaab gunmen took some of the Maka Al Mukaramah hotel lodgers hostage, beheading them in the apparently coordinated rampage.
The Shaboobs captured alive should be similarly beheaded. Would serve as an object lesson...
The attack started with a suicide car bombing at the gate of the hotel followed by gunmen who forcibly walked past the security guards while shooting. In the fledgling course of the terror attack, the gunmen shot Somali ambassador to UN Human Rights Council Yusuf Mohamed Ismael (Bari Bari) who succumbed to gunshot wounds to the upper part of his body at Madina hospital.
Somalia's US trained special forces Gaashaan have managed to kill all the attackers after hours of battle in the dark hotel.
Medics say the death toll may rise as hospitals reported having victims in critical condition in their wards.
As has been the case, Al Shabaab group immediately claimed credit for the attack, saying they targeted 'apostates' in the hotel. Shortly after the standoff in the hotel was put to an end, fugitive Al Shabaab spokesman Ali Mohamud Rage boasted that they will continue targeting Somalia government officials.
Located at the heart of a key road that leads to the heavily-fortified presidential compound, Maka Al Mukarama hotel has been a target for the militants.

[TIME] Tunisia's prime minister said Sunday a leading suspect in a deadly museum attack on foreign tourists has been killed in anti-terrorist operations, as tens of thousands of Tunisians marched through the capital to denounce bad boy violence.
State news agency TAP cites Prime Minister Habib Essid as saying that Khaled Chaieb, also known as Abou Sakhr Lokman, was one of nine terror suspects killed overnight in an operation near the Algerian border. ne people were killed in the operationds of people
Chaieb is believed a prominent Algerian krazed killer in al-Qaeda's North African arm, and suspected of leading or helping lead the March 18 attack on the National Bardo Museum.
"Nine bad boyz were potted last night (Saturday) in the mountainous area of Sidi Aich" in west-central Tunisia, ministry front man Mohammed Ali Aroui told AFP.
The men allegedly belonged to the Okba Ibn Nafaa Brigade, which authorities have claimed was behind the March 18 attack on the Bardo Museum that left a Tunisian policeman and 21 foreign tourists dead.
The interior ministry on Thursday accused Okba Ibn Nafaa of organizing the massacre, which was claimed by the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. Aroui said top jihadists were among those killed in Saturday's operation, which took place in a region about 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of the Algerian border, further south than Tunisian jihadist groups usually operate.
Authorities say Okba Ibn Nafaa has been behind a series of attacks on security forces that have left some 60 dead since late 2012.

[AnNahar] A court in Egypt has sentenced a man and woman to lengthy jail terms and slapped them with large fines after convicting them of spying for Israel, a judicial official said Saturday.
Their two accomplices -- Israeli intelligence officials -- were sentenced in absentia to life terms, the official added.
The man, Ramzy al-Shebini, was sentenced to life, and the woman, Sahar Salama, to 15 years. In Egypt, a life term generally means 25 years.
The charge sheet said that, between 2008 and 2012, the two agreed to pass on to the Israelis "strategic information relating to the country's internal situation and information about the military's acquisition of German submarines."
In the verdict handed down by the court in Giza province, the man was also fined 80,000 euros ($87,000) and the woman 10,000 euros.
In two other cases over the past few months, an Egyptian and a Jordanian telecommunications engineer have been incarcerated ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... for 10 years on similar charges.
[AnNahar] A bomb maimed four civilians and four coppers outside Cairo University Saturday, Egyptian police and health officials said.
Several kabooms outside the university have taken place since the army ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in 2013, the last of which maimed five coppers in November.
The attacks were claimed by a Cairo-based bully boy group called Ajnad Misr (Soldiers of Egypt), but no one has yet claimed Saturday's kaboom.
The rudimentary bomb was placed at the exit of a metro station that serves the university, the police official said.
Health ministry front man Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said those maimed were "in stable, pH balanced condition."
A security official, speaking on condition of anonymity ... for fear of being murdered... because he was not authorized to speak to journalists, said 4 of the people injured on Saturday are coppers who were guarding the entrances to Cairo University.
The official said the blast went off by a subway entrance near the campus. Security officials have cordoned off the area and are sweeping for additional explosives.
[Libya Herald] The Libyan National Army (LNA) in Benghazi has claimed that that there are no longer any hard boyz in the city's Leithi district. "The Benghazi Revolutionaries Shoura Council [fighters] have retreated to Gwarsha", an LNA source told the Libya Herald.
"We've been hitting their positions in Leithi with heavy artillery today", the source said. "But there has been no return fire."
The Benghazi Revolutionaries' Shoura Council (BRSC) comprises Ansar al-Sharia ...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet... and other krazed killer Islamists forces such as the Brega Martyr's Brigade led by Bouka Al-Araibi, killed earlier this week, the 17 February Brigade, Libya Shield ...a conglomerate of pro-Islamist militias deployed across Libya. It reports to the Libyan defense ministry and is organized like a real army unit. Its commander used to head a Benghazi brigade called Free Libya Martyrs... No. 1 Brigade and Rafallah al-Sahati Brigade. It was not thought to include the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (IS). However, the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits... it has been widely reported that over the past few weeks that Ansar forces had pulled out of Leithi and left the fighting there against the LNA to IS.
IS also claimed this week after Bouka's death that he had joined it.
In another indication that IS and BRSC were drawing together, the latter grabbed credit for Tuesday's IS-style suicide kaboom in Leithi which killed seven people, five of them LNA soldiers.
If the claim that Leithi is now clear of hard boyz is true, LNA forces are not expected to move into the area quickly. It is thought that there will be many booby traps that will need to be founds and made safe.

If Libya Dawn is fighting ISIS and the LNA/Operation Dignity is fighting Ansar al Sharia (same as ISIS), then why are they fighting each other?
Is it that dueling parliament, who is going to write the constitution thing or is it something more malignant?

[Ynet] Police detained 52 people on Friday in Kenya's main port city, a day after an officer was killed in a suspected Islamist Dire Revenge attack, heightening tensions in an area where the authorities say holy warrior Islamist is spreading.
After a recent spate of attacks, police detained dozens of youths from mosques in Mombasa which they say are used by radical preachers as recruitment centres. The arrests have angered many Moslems in the mainly Christian nation.
[AnNahar] At least seven people were killed in separate attacks in the northeast Nigeria ... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border... n state of Gombe on Saturday as the country held presidential elections, with suspected Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... gunnies opening fire on voters at polling stations.
The first attacks happened in the neighboring villages of Birin Bolawa and Birin Fulani in the Nafada district of Gombe, which has been repeatedly targeted by the Islamists.
An election official, who requested anonymity, said: "We could hear the gunnies shouting, 'Didn't we warn you about staying away from (the) election?'"
Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau said in a video message last month that the bandidoshard boyz would disrupt Saturday's general election, which they see as "un-Islamic".
The threat and a spate of suicide kabooms and bombings against "soft" targets in restive northern Nigeria have prompted the authorities to impose tight security across the country.
The election official said the masked gunnies arrived in Birin Bolawa in a pickup truck at about 8:30 am (0730 GMT), just after accreditation for Saturday's presidential election had begun.
One voter was rubbed out and others fled in panic.
"They set fire to all the election materials we abandoned as we escaped," he added.
Karim Jauro, a resident of Birin Fulani said the second attack happened at about 9:15 am, adding that had they known about the earlier shooting they would have abandoned the polling station.
"As soon as people saw them they began to run away but the gunnies opened fire on the polling station, killing one man," he said.
"They burnt the election materials. We strongly believe they are Boko Haram who have been warning people not to participate in the elections."
Gunmen then stormed the town of Dukku, 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the state capital Gombe city, at about 11:30, shooting randomly as voters queued up at polling stations, residents said.
"They rubbed out three people and injured two others," said Ibrahim Ahmad, adding that the attackers then killed a state assembly politician and the local chief in the nearby herding village of Tilen.
Bala Akilu, another resident who witnessed the shooting in Dukku, supported Ahmad's account.
"The shooting disrupted accreditation but later some polling stations reopened after the gunnies had left," he added.
"But others remained shut because voters had gone and were too afraid to return."
Nigeria's presidential election had been due to be held on February 14 but security concerns forced the country's electoral commission to postpone it just a week before the scheduled vote.
IHS Jane's Terrorism and Insurgency Center said there were 28 Boko Haram attacks in the three weeks after the delay was announced compared with 18 in the three weeks beforehand -- a 56 percent rise.
There was also an increase in attacks in the six weeks after a crackdown against the bandidoshard boyz began by Nigeria and coalition partners Niger, Chad and Cameroon ...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there... "We also saw a 20 percent increase in the number of suicide attacks in this period," Matthew Henman, head of the center, said on Saturday.

[Iran Press TV] Acts of violence by Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... Takfiri ...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed... Death Eaters in Nigeria's Borno State have left 23 villagers dead, as the country is voting in presidential and parliamentary elections.
Officials confirmed that 23 people were decapitated and burned in an attack in Barutai on Saturday.
Mohammed Adamu, a council official in the village said that bully boyz used chainsaws to decapitate the people.
More efficient than a rusty pot-metal sword, but it seems to me that chainsaws would have to be taken apart and cleaned at least between beheadings, if not partway through each one. Much worse than pine trees for clogging up the chain, your flesh-and-bone bodies, to be sure.
"All of us ran into the bush.... Those who were unfortunate were caught in their houses and slaughtered," he said.
Boko Haram bully boyz attacked other areas in Nigeria's Gombe and Yobe State on the election day, killing scores of people there.
Gunmen launched an attack on a polling station in the town of Dukku in the northeastern state of Gombe, killing five people. An earlier assault took place in the villages of Birin Bolawa and Birin Fulani in the same state, killing two people. Another attack in Ngalda, in Yobe State, killed 3 other people.
People in the oil-rich West African country turned out en masse to vote in a presidential election on Saturday in a close race between incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan ... 14th President of Nigeria. He was Governor of Bayelsa State from 9 December 2005 to 28 May 2007, and was sworn in as Vice President on 29 May 2007. Jonathan is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). He is a lover of nifty hats, which makes him easily recognizable unless someone else in the room is wearing a neat chapeau... and former military chief Muhammadu Buhari. Parliamentary elections are also being held in the country simultaneously.

Funny how Islamic extremism was a nuisance until the ogre they created turned on the master, much like Frankenstein.
Saudi Arabia in particular has stirred the pot on their Wahhabi brand of Islam wherever their money could take them. Now that the religion is in flames, and they are holding the matches, I wonder what the bright lights of the Saudi royal family are going to do to undo their machinations.
Of course, we've turned a blind eye to the problem and the intrigue for over 70 years so now we have the hordes at the gate with nary a Sobieski or von Munchausen in sight.

[AnNahar] A series of kabooms rocked an arms depot in Yemen's second city of Aden Saturday, killing at least nine people as looters swarmed the facility, witnesses and an official said.
The blasts were heard across the city and pillars of smoke rose from the depot, where looting had broken out a day earlier, an AFP correspondent reported.
The depot is at the foot of Jabal Hadid mountain overlooking the port, and a large amount of weapons dating back to the Soviet era were stored in a cave there.
Troops guarding the depot abandoned their posts this week after their commanders fled as chaos tightened its grip on the war-torn country.
Houses shook, windows were shattered and several nearby buildings were destroyed in Saturday's kabooms, residents said.
"We have so far retrieved nine charred bodies," health department director Al-Kheder Lassouar said.
"We have information that there are more bodies inside that we were not able to reach" as kabooms continued after people entered the depot to loot it, he added.
Many people were inside or on Jabal Hadid when the kabooms took place, witnesses said, reporting that several had died in the looting even before the blasts.
One resident who was at the mountain earlier on Saturday before the kabooms told AFP that "there were many dead bodies in the cave".
"People entering to take weapons were killed by others who didn't find what they were looking for," he said.
Others reported seeing several people die of suffocation after inhaling toxic gases released from gunpowder stored inside the deep cave.
Several others were stabbed, residents say.
AFP could not confirm these reports from official sources as fighting between local militias and Iranian catspaws, under fire from a Saudi-led coalition elsewhere, killed 61 people in three days, according to Lassouar.
President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi took refuge in Aden after fleeing the rebel-held capital last month.

SANAA, Yemen (AP) — The turmoil in Yemen grew into a regional conflict Thursday, with Saudi Arabia and its allies bombing Shiite rebels allied with Iran, while Egyptian officials said a ground assault will follow the airstrikes.
Iran denounced the Saudi-led air campaign, saying it "considers this action a dangerous step," and oil prices jumped in New York and London after the offensive.
The military action turned impoverished and chaotic Yemen into a new front in the rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Unless the Saudis can agree to a compromise = reformist Govt., iff the KSA-led airstrikes fails to restore Hadi or other to power then ground forces will be needed to eliminate the Houthi threat from the Peninsula.

[Hurriyet Daily News] Two Czech women who were kidnapped by an al Qaeda-linked gang in Pakistain have been freed after The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... -based Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) made efforts for their release.
Antonie Chrastecka and Hana Humpalova - both 27 - were in Pakistain as tourists on a world tour in 2013 when they were taken on March 13 near Taftan by the armed forces of Evil as they crossed the border from Iran.
The two women arrived in the eastern Turkish province of Van late on March 27 after two months of "intense" talks, according to Izzet Sahin, the IHH official leading the negotiations with the women's kidnappers.
Sahin said the families of the victims contacted the IHH two months ago as a last resort after exhausting all other means to save the pair.
"We have put into use every tool at our disposal to get them back. We have delivered them to their families safely today," said Sahin, head of IHH's International Relations and Humanitarian Diplomacy department, in an interview with Anadolu Agency.
"Antonie and Hana were captives for two years, which were very difficult for them."
"It was very hard. For the first time in our lives we saw weapons and gunnies. We still do not know why were taken. There were weapons fired and bombs going off. But we got used to it in time," said Humpalova said.
"We had more than enough time to do a lot of thinking. We thought about our children and families and kept our hopes alive that one day we would be rescued. For the first time in two years we saw the sun and smiling people around us."
"I still can't believe I am here," Chrastecka told the agency. "Even now, I fear this is a dream."
She said the worst part of her captivity was being apart from her family.
"Being away from my family was really hard. From the first moment I was kidnapped, I wanted to be with them. I am so happy rights now and so excited," Chrastecka said.
Chrastecka, Humpalova and their families later departed for the Czech Republic.

Yep, insert some rough men ready to do violence into an urban environment controlled by the other side.
Snipe random members of opposing forces.
Random ambushes of same groups of vehicles
Random destruction of communications center
Wash, rinse, repeat until the opposition is chasing their tail over an armed insurgency OR an imagined much larger force operating under their nose.
I think someone is working that scenario

[RUDAW.NET] Kurdish bases in Shingal fought off two early morning attacks by ISIS fighters, a Peshmerga commander told Rudaw on Saturday.
"Several ISIS bully boyz were killed during the operation, with no causalities on the Peshmerga side," said Isa Zeway, commander of the 4th Peshmerga brigade in Shingal.
Zeway added that the security situation in Shingal was improving and the murderous Moslems' firepower had been reduced to light weapons.
"Daesh [the Arabic name for ISIS] doesn't have the military strength to restart heavy attacks," he said.
In recent months, Shingal has been struggling to recover from a devastating ISIS attack last year that unleashed a spree of killings, rape and kidnappings against the area's predominantly Kurdish Yezidi population.

[RUDAW.NET] Several Shiite groups will withdraw from the Iraqi government's campaign to liberate Tikrit due to the recent involvement of the United States, according statements made separately by the groups.
"We were shocked by the government's call for US forces to participate in Tikrit when the ISIS gunnies had been already destroyed by Saraya al-Salam fighters and police forces," the military wing of the Sadrist movement, known as Saraya al-Salam, said in its statement released on Thursday.
At the request of the Iraqi government, the US military on Wednesday began targeting ISIS positions in the bad boy-held city, a move that drew immediate outrage from the Shiite militias which had done the bulk of the fighting.
"Participation of the coalition in Tikrit aims to protect Daesh [the Arabic name for ISIS] and meant to steal the victory of local forces. Saraya al-Salam will withdraw from any operations America is participating in," the statement added.
Hassan Salem, head of the al-Sadiqun fraction in Iraqi parliament, said the coalition forces are in fact helping ISIS gunnies by giving them opportunities to escape the region.
"In order to express our opposition to America's participation, we had left Tikrit operation," said Salem, referring to his political bloc's armed wing Asaib Ahl al-Haq.
Kataib Hezbollah, a powerful Iran-backed miltia not to be confused with Lebanese Hezbollah, also slammed the inclusion of US Arclight airstrikes calling it "an effort to cover up local forces victories in the operation."
Hard-line Shiite militia groups, including Kataib Hezbollah and Asaib al-Haq are allegedly responsible for the deaths of more than 1,000 US troops since 2003.

Another bad call. I wish we'd allowed more of the Sadrists to dash themselves on the IEDs of Daesh.

"cover up local forces victories"? Oh really. Stuck, dying by the thousands, disorganized grabastic leadreship, and sheer fanaticism and bloodshirst with no strategy other than "Get em!".
That's a real "victory". Ought to wash our hands of these idiots and let ISIS slice them up and BBQ them.

The trouble is, if ISIS is driven out, they will claim that it was their victory, and otherwise it will be our defeat. Heads they win and tails we lose. Very clever on our part!

I must've missed something - wasn't the final offensive agz the ISIS/ISL in Tikrit allegedly stalled ergo the collective IGA Govt-Army, Kurd, + Shiite demand for expanded US Airstrikes???
[RUDAW.NET] The bodies of an estimated 150 ISIS fighters reportedly killed by coalition Arclight airstrikes have been transferred to morgues in the bad boy-held city of djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... , a Kurdish official has told Rudaw.
Saeed Mamuzni, a Kurdistan Democratic Party official worked in Mosul until fleeing to Duhok, said on Thursday the deaths resulted from a wave of bombings carried out in the towns of Kaske Kask, Kalak, Khorbasad and in Mosul's Arabi neighborhood.
"Due to coalition Arclight airstrikes around Mosul over the past two days nearly 150 ISIS Lions of Islam have been killed and the bodies were all transferred for Mosul morgues," said Mamuzini.
He added: "Mosul inhabitants have started buying tents and renting houses outside the city in fear of the battle for Mosul. They want to keep themselves away from festivities in the city."
US-led coalition Arclight airstrikes have been bombarding ISIS arsenals and positions in Syria and Iraq ahead of an impending attack on Mosul, Iraq's second largest city.

So true Mike.
My question is that since Shia are outnumbered 4-1 or so, do they really think they can dominate the Muzzie world?

Shiia outnumber Sunni by more than 4 to 1 in Syria and they had no problem keeping control until recently.
The best course for long-term Alawite domination would have been a convert or die policy. Since they were surrounded by Sunnis Arab, they had to settle for a water down (Sunni Islam) or die policy under the guise of Arab Nationalism. They crushed the Muslim Brotherhood and went after violent anti-government Sunni Arab movements. I suspect their big mistake was not ensuring that Alawites reproduced themselves.
[Ynet] The Syrian army, backed by Hezbollah fighters, closed in on the rebel-held city of Zabadani near the border with Leb on Friday, a Lebanese security source said.
Violence from Syria's four-year war has regularly tipped over into Leb, and holy warriors from the Iranian-backed Lebanese Shi'ite Moslem group Hezbollah have been fighting on the side of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad The Scourge of Hama... [AnNahar] The army's elite forces advanced towards the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal and controlled strategic posts, An Nahar newspaper reported on Saturday.
The daily said that the army controlled during the "unique" military operation, which kicked off at dawn on Friday, advanced posts on the outskirts of the Bekaa border towns Qaa and Nahle after gunnies fled their positions.
A military source told the newspaper that the "rapid and swift" operation was a follow up for a similar one carried out in Tallet al-Hamra in the outskirts of Ras Baalbek.
The army said in a communique issued on Friday that troops controlled, during the military operation on the outskirts of Arsal, positions that were used by terrorist groups to infiltrate Leb and assault soldiers.
In February, the Lebanese army advanced on the outskirts of the villages of Ras Baalbek and Arsal, establishing new checkpoints and surveillance posts.
The Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... , which controls several areas in Syria and Iraq, aims to spread to Leb as its fighters position in the outskirts of Bekaa towns bordering Syria and the Lebanese army is in adamant efforts to stop their efforts to infiltrate the country.
The jihadists remain entrenched on the outskirts of Arsal on the porous Syrian-Lebanese border.
The mountainous area has long been a smuggling haven, with multiple routes into Syria that have been used to transport weapons and fighters.
The army has been targeting gunnies along the country's eastern border to prevent them from advancing.
[AA.TR] The Syrian General Revolution has said "revolutionaries" have completely seized control of the city of Idlib in northwestern Syria.
The group said in a statement to The Anadolu Agency on Saturday: "Revolutionaries have managed to completely liberate Idlib city from security branches of the Assad regime."
Several photos and videos shared on social media websites showed opposition fighters inside Syrian regime buildings including the province's building and central prison as well as the main square of the city.
However, facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable... the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) claimed hundreds of opposition fighters had been killed in "intense strikes" by Assad regime forces near the national museum and the industrial area in the eastern part of the city.
Syrian opposition factions under a single military group named Jeysh al-Fatah began military operations against Syrian regime forces in Idlib city five days ago.
The city's fall comes on the fifth day of fighting between a coalition of al-Nusra ...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ... and various Islamist opposition allies and the regime.
More than 130 people have been killed in the fighting, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
