[Daily Caller] The CIA's ongoing defiance of congressional authority continued during a closed-door meeting last week after Director John Brennan refused to tell lawmakers who authorized the illegal surveillance of Senate Intelligence Committee computers, which were used to compile a report on the agency's interrogation practices.
"I'm concerned there's disrespect towards the Congress," Senate Armed Services Committee chairman and Michigan Democrat Carl Levin said in a McClatchy report. "I think it's arrogant, I think it's unacceptable."
Hours before a closed meeting with Brennan and Director of National Security James Clapper on Tuesday, the committee received written notification that Brennan was refusing to answer questions posed to him by California Democrat and Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein. Well, we certainly know who he works for. Perhaps we should start there.

"Former FBI Islam expert John Guandolo has long warned that the federal government is being infiltrated by members of the radical Muslim Brotherhood. But Guandolo now warns that by appointing Brennan to CIA director, Obama has not only chosen a man “naïve” to these infiltrations, but also picked a candidate who is himself a Muslim.
“Mr. Brennan did convert to Islam when he served in an official capacity on the behalf of the United States in Saudi Arabia,” Guandolo told interviewer and radio host Tom Trento.
“That fact alone is not what is most disturbing,” Guandolo continued. “His conversion to Islam was the culmination of a counterintelligence operation against him to recruit him. The fact that foreign intelligence service operatives recruited Mr. Brennan when he was in a very sensitive and senior U.S. government position in a foreign country means that he either [is] a traitor … [or] he has the inability to discern and understand how to walk in those kinds of environments, which makes him completely unfit to the be the director of Central Intelligence.”"

Seventeen 100 bed facilities is probably already inadequate. Training 500 health care workers/week strikes me as ambitious, but since they don't need to be full-fledged RNs, will probably help the professionals. What really will make a difference is handing out hundreds of thousands of home health care kits with instructions in their use. James, i think it was, was asking the other day about bleach and using bleach-saturated cloth as a compromise between First World kit and nothing at all. I hope he sees this, and is comforted.

Military are subject to UCMJ. Desertion and failure to obey are usually not crimes associated with 'civilian' employees/hires who can say 'screw it' and bail. [Tolo News] An appellate court in Kabul on Monday upheld death penalty sentences for five individuals convicted of gang raping four women in the Paghman district of the capital. The other two men were given 20-year prison sentences each, overturning the initial court's decision to put all seven to death.
The head of the Kabul appellate court, Sediqullah Haqiq, attributed the decision to alter the sentences of two of the criminals to a lack of evidence against them. The decision comes just eight days after a primary court in Kabul convicted the seven men in a case that has received nationwide attention.
Three more criminals, known as Mukhtar, Faizullah and Maiwand, have been tied to the incident by Sherlocks, but remain on the run.

[Dhaka Tribune] Notorious criminal Kailya Babu, prime accused in the Moghbazar triple murder case, was killed in an alleged shootout with detective police yesterday; but several witnesses claimed there was no fight and Babu was shot by police from close range.
Following Shah Alam Khandakar alias Kailya Babu's death, DB told journalists at a presser that they got information that Babu, along with his gang, was going to the Moghbazar area to kill Kailya Chand Mia, plaintiff of the triple murder case.
The detectives took position in the Bepari Goli near the Moghbazar Wireless area around 4am and were waiting for the criminals to arrive. Soon, a group of criminals opened fire on the law enforcers and a young man was killed in the "shootout." The dead man was later identified as Kailya Babu, DB claimed.
However, a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth... Kailya Babu's wife Marium Begum, who identified the body at the Dhaka Medical College Morgue, told the Dhaka Tribune over phone that her husband had already been nabbed Please don't kill me! in Narayanganj on Sunday night by DB and so he could not be there in Moghbazar the next morning.
The latest incident comes only a day after a young man, not listed anywhere as a criminal, was killed in the capital's Mugda area. The Detective Branch (DB) of Police labelled that as a "shootout" as well.
Witness account
The Dhaka Tribune has talked to several people from the Bepari Goli area who claimed to have witnessed the entire incident.
A tenant of a building near which the alleged shootout took place, witnessed the incident from his balcony.
"The incident took place in front of the Marjana Printing Press near the Jamaat office. Around 2:45am, a microbus stopped near the press. Five men-- three in DB jackets and two in plain clothes -- got down from the microbus. They had with them a young man in handcuffs.
"They walked a few metres past the closed tin gate of the press. Then one of the men in DB jacket gave the handcuffed man a little push and told him to run.
"We know you can ran fast and vanish. Run...run..." the witness quoted the DB men as telling Babu.
"But sensing that he might be shot from the back if he started running, Babu started stepping back towards the DB men. One of them then hit Babu on the head with a bamboo stick and called him names for not running. But Babu would still not move. Then one of the DB personnel took Babu by his arm and started firing at him.
"I remember at least six to seven gunshots. But all of those shots were not fired at Babu. Some hit a nearby wall and the tin gate of the printing press," the witness said.
"After handcuffed Babu fell on the ground, the DB men screamed saying: 'Check whether he is carrying a bomb or not. Get the firearms from his hand."
Soon, some other men, who were waiting in the microbus, emerged at the scene and started firing blank shots at the walls of the nearby buildings with holding numbers 495, 510, 511 and 513. They fired at least 20 rounds of bullets in the air as well.
"While firing the gunshots, they were shouting: We have got two other criminals. Look for the others...run...search," the witness said.
This description is consistent with the DB's claim at the presser that they had picked up two other criminals during yesterday's raid.
Another witness watched the incident from the window of her kitchen in a flat on a nearby building.
"After the shooting, the DB men picked up the bullet shells from the ground. Around 4:15am, a van from the Ramna cop shoppe came there. Police in uniform got down from the vehicle and asked the DB men what had happened there. The DB men said there had been a shootout and asked the uniformed police to take away the body," she said.
Quoting one of the DB men, the witness said: "Take him direct to the medical... I think he [Kailya Babu] may survive."
Other witnesses said many had woken up in the middle of the night hearing the sound of the gunshots. But the DB men told them to stay inside and keep their doors and windows closed.
One of the witnesses said Babu had been wearing a green and white T-shirt and jeans trousers but no footwear.
They also reported seeing a "victory procession" in the area around 10:15am brought out by Kailya Chand Mia and some other local people. Apparently, they were celebrating the death of Kailya Babu.
DB's version
During yesterday's presser, DB Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam told news hounds that Babu could have been killed by bullets from either their guns or his cohorts'.
The team that conducted the drive was headed by DB Deputy Commissioner Krishnapada Roy and his deputy Abdullah Al Mamun.
Monirul claimed that the criminal gang, who opened fire on the DB team had seven to eight members. Four of them expeditiously departed at a goodly pace but DB caught Rajib-Al-Hasan, 27, and Al-Amin, 31.
According to DB, on the day of the triple murder, Rajib, who is a notorious criminal from Old Dhaka, provided arms and bullets to Kailya Babu.
Al-Amin, meanwhile, was wanted in a case filed in connection with the killing of a Ansar man at Moghbazar. Kailya Babu was involved with that murder as well.
The DB official also claimed that they had recovered a foreign-made pistol, three rounds of bullets, seven rounds of bullet shells, three rounds of shot gun bullet shells and a machete from the spot.

[Iran Press TV] A Welsh political party leader says the Scottish independence referendum is a chance to redistribute power and wealth away from London city state.
In response to the YouGov Barometer poll, Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood said on Monday she was happy that more Welsh people recognized that Wales needed more powers.
"Just as is the case in Scotland, the referendum debate in Wales has further highlighted the need to rebalance powers and wealth in these islands away from where it has become concentrated -- in the London city state," she said.

Scottish Independence. Is the sun finally setting on the Mighty British Empire?
By Mike Smith, 15th of September 2014
At its height in 1919 the British Empire was the largest empire in the history of the world. It was the foremost world power for over a century. The British Empire held sway over about 458 million people, one-fifth of the world's population and covered almost a quarter of the world’s land area. It is the reason why English is today the global language. It was termed “the empire on which the sun never sets”.
Now, on the eve of Scottish independence, that prospect seems very possible.
As a Nationalist, I support independence for any nation who desires it and if it is what the Scots want, then they should get it.
I am dead set against the globalist agenda of creating a One World Government and all their abominable creations like the League of Nations, The Commonwealth, The United Nations, The European Union, etc. should be dissolved as far as I am concerned.
Scottish independence might just be the trigger that will bring this globalist agenda to a halt and even reverse it.
Britain went from “British Empire” to “Great Britain” to “United Kingdom” to “United Kingdom and Ireland” to just “England and Wales”. I certainly hope so. I wish the Scots could pull off their independence and finally draw the curtain on the useless UK or “Great Britain”. Thinking back to what Britain did to the Boers, Rhodesia and South Africa, I will applause the destruction of the once “Great Britain”.
For me it will be funny enough to see the Union Jack without the Blue.
If Scotland gains its independence after the forthcoming referendum, the remainder of the United Kingdom will be known as the "Former United Kingdom" (F U K). In a bid to discourage Scots from voting 'yes' in the referendum, the Westminster has now begun to campaign with the slogan: "Vote NO, for F U K's sake".
Jokes aside…Scottish independence will be a serious stick in the spokes of the Globalist agenda. That is why their propaganda machine is going all out to prevent it.
The poor Scots are threatened with currency collapse, bankruptcy, irrelevance and isolation. They are told that if the leave the UK they will also be leaving the EU and NATO and will have to reapply for membership and might get blackballed.
A Scottish “Yes” also means exit from the EU and NATO
What do we threaten the Scots with next? Exploding haggises?
They are even using dead soldiers to bash the Scots.
Our soldiers lost their lives trying to preserve the UK. What will their families say?
My biggest concern is the impact Scottish independence will have on South Africa. No doubt other nations seeking independence like the Basque people of Spain, the Flemish in Belgium and the Afrikaners in South Africa are watching the Scottish referendum closely. If the Scots get their independence it will trigger a snowball effect that might just totally reverse the Globalist agenda and nobody will be happier than me. Shamelessly pilfered from Mike Smith's Political Commentary and blog.

Scotland can at least hope that they end up in control of North Sea Oil. What has Wales got? Coal, nice beaches, and Castles. I'm a fan of two out of three but you can't run a country on them. They should hang tight and watch the Scots for awhile first.

Ukrainian and pro Russian separatists exchanged artillery fire throughout the region north of Donetsk Sunday, while Ukrainian security forces have detained a number of individuals in Donetsk and in Ukraina they claim are spies, according to Russian and English language reports.
Ukrainian artillery units, mostly positioned at the airport, continued firing on targets in Donetsk, including firing on the Kuibyshevsky, Leninsky and Kirovsky districts.
According to a report in the pro Russian Voice of Sevastopol, militia counterbattery fire has killed a number of Ukrainian troops including nine from the Ukrainian territorial Defense Battalion Dnepr, while a "Right Sector" volunteer unit has lost half its strength. Militia say that a unit of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade has lost "several dozen" effectives.
Pro Russian militias say that civilian casualties in Donetsk are at least 20 dead.
An observer group from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe came under Ukrainian mortar fire while in Donetsk. One of the vehicles was destroyed by fire. Donetsk Defense Minister Aleksandr Zakharchenko reportedly claimed that the mortar unit was subsequently destroyed along with its fire control observer.
Further to the north of Donetsk increased activity by both sides was reported as Ukrainian forces are said to have tripled their number at the airport.
Militias also say that Ukrainian artillery fire from Zhdanovka hit the Khanzhonkovo district in Makeyevka.
Pro Russian militias say that fighting has taken place near Debaltsevo, and near the village Krasny Partizan and Zhdanovka between Gorlovka and Makeyevka. This area has been a severe point of contention between both forces as late last month when a Ukrainian unit attempted to take the area by storm, but instead was stopped.
Militias claim they have a Ukrainian military unit surrounded in the area.
Pro Ukrainian sources claim that pro Russian militias are preparing attacks in the region. According to Ukrainian military blogger Roman Burko, militias are marshaling forces near Gorlovka for an attack towards Dzerzhynsk. A separate attack is reportedly due to take place by militias towards Debaltsevo and Bakhmutivka.
A Ukrainian military unit identified as the Ukrainian 25th Brigade currently holds the area around Zhdanovka, which prevents, according to Burko, militias from unmolested maneuvers in the area. An attack on this unit would resolve the militia's problem.
Ukrainian security forces claim to have captured a number of spies and saboteurs in and around Donetsk.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained three individuals they say were conducting reconnaissance on Ukrainian deployments near the town of Volnovakha, which is between Donetsk and Mariupol. The three detainees were reportedly part of a Donetsk special forces unit called OPLOT. Arms and ammunition were also seized in the arrest.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained three individuals, one Russian and four Ukrainians, they say were operating under the direction of Donetsk officials and officials from the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).
According to official Ukrainian information, the three are suspected of planning attacks on Ukrainian forces in Mariupol.
The detainees were identified as R.A. Aniskin, Russian, “C” Ukrainian, and a third individual who was not identified, but was apparently tied to Donetsk government officials.
The raid also netted four AK-74 rifles, four RPO-A “Shmel” rocket launchers, three RPG-22 grenade launchers and two mines with detonators.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained three individuals suspected of planning a guerrilla cell against Ukrainian forces. According to the news released, published by Burko, the group was to have five cells, and had invited trainers from the Russian Federation for help. None of the detainees were identified.

A Russian State Duma deputy and Olympic gold medalist whose relationship with President Vladimir Putin has caused wide speculation has resigned from the lower house of parliament.
Alina Kabayeva, who won a gold medal in rhythmic gymnastics in 2006, said she was leaving the Duma to do other unspecified work.
Kabayeva, 31, has been a Duma deputy under the ruling United Russia party since she retired from gymnastics in 2007.
Reports of a romantic relationship between Putin and Kabayeva began in 2008 and have continued despite several denials and "no-comments" from her and Kremlin officials.
Kabayeva played a big role in the ceremony to light the torch at the Sochi Winter Olympics in February.
Putin and his wife Lyudmila divorced earlier this year.
[Al Ahram] The United States said Monday it "does not recognize" the first local elections in Crimea since Russia annexed the peninsula from Ukraine in March.
"The United States continues to condemn the Russian Federation's occupation and purported annexation of Ukrainian territory and its violation of Ukrainian illusory sovereignty and territorial integrity," State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf told news hounds, adding that Washington "will not acknowledge" results of Sunday's vote, which Russia's ruling party appears to have won convincingly.

Pro Russian separatists have already said no federation or autonomy. They want the Golden Ring.
[Iran Press TV] Ukraine has offered restive pro-Russian regions a limited self-rule as fresh festivities breakout in the country's eastern regions.
According to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's website on Monday, he told top politicians that the offer would be part of the ceasefire agreement reached in Minsk.
It also said that he wishes to formally present the offer to parliament on Tuesday.
According to reports the bill also extends the rights of the people of Lugansk and Donetsk, permitting them to speak Russian in state institutions and to hold local elections in November.
The bill will also allow the regions to "strengthen good neighborly relations" between local authorities and their Russian counterparts, and promises to aid restoring the damaged infrastructure and to supply social and economic support to severely damaged areas.
Poroshenko also called on the pro-Russians to swiftly end the five-month festivities which has killed 2,700 people.

[MIAMIHERALD] German Chancellor Angela Merkel ...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom... says Russia must withdraw its troops from Ukraine for a peace plan there to work.
Merkel told Russian President Vladimir Putin ...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead... in a phone call late Monday that the complete withdrawal must accompany a securing of the Russian-Ukrainian border to prevent fighters and arms flowing to pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.
She also welcomed talks between Russia, Ukraine and the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... on free trade, and called for such trilateral talks to address the issue of natural gas deliveries from Russia to Ukraine.
Ukraine and the West have repeatedly contended that Russia is fueling the separatist uprising in eastern Ukraine with manpower, weapons and expertise, something that Moscow denies.
The cease-fire between rebels and Ukrainian troops took effect on Sept. 5 but has been violated repeatedly.

At some point such a ship could even become unmanned.
