[Asharq al-Aswat] Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar said Monday that the jihad boys' strategy aims to increase operations nationwide and battle the U.S.-led coalition in a war of attrition.
But in a sign that NATO's campaign against the Taliban may be hurting the bully boyz far more than they have acknowledged, Mullah Omar also appealed for funding from Mohammedans around the world.
Mullah Omar, who has not been seen in public since being driven from power following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S., said the Taliban wants to boost operations across Afghanistan to "compel the enemy to come out from their hideouts and then crush them through tactical raids."
In his message for Eid al-Adha, the most important holiday on the Islamic calendar, the Taliban leader also claimed that NATO forces were in Afghanistan for the "achievement of some colonialist objectives and goals, so it is the religious and humane obligation of the Afghans to stand up."
The U.S.-led coalition has ramped up its military campaign against the Taliban in their southern stronghold, capturing or killing hundreds of jihad boy leaders. A senior coalition official has said the military has been averaging more than 200 special forces operations a month, with more than half resulting in the capture or killing of the targeted jihad boys.
Mullah Omar appealed for funds in his holiday message, which suggests that NATO operations may be taking a toll on the jihad boys.
"The people are grappling with hardship and poverty. But the Afghans have embraced all these sufferings out of commitment to the great cause of establishment of rules of the Holy Koran and the defense of the Islamic faith," he said, asking that Mohammedans "perform your obligation of fraternity in your material wealth."

#2 I strongly recommend Ambassador Ranneberger be immediately reassigned as the US Ambassador to Mexico. Posted by: Besoeker 2010-11-17 10:51
Do you also recommend a regiment of Marines to provide security for him from the drug cartels? Amb. Ranneberger can get away with that in Kenya; doing something similar in Mexico would make him a number-one target of both the drug cartels and the Mexican government.

Two weeks ago, Dubai Police Chief said that they provided Yemen with important information about the parcel bombs.
In the same context, General Sameh Saif Al-Zail, Head of the Republican Center for Studies and Research said that the substance used in the parcel bombs last month are easy to get hold of, and are sold in pharmacies around the country. [Daily Nation (Kenya)] Colombian air and ground forces attacked a guerrilla encampment near the border with Ecuador, killing 14 rebels in the latest of a series of punishing military operations, military officials said.
Colombian air forces first bombed the camp, then followed with an assault by elite helicopter-borne infantry, the officials said.
General Jairo Antonio Herazo, head of the Pacific Joint Command, told a news conference Monday that ground troops recovered the bodies of 14 guerrillas in the operation near the town of Ipiales in southeastern Narino province.
He said two minors, one of whom was an Ecuadoran, were maimed in the attack and given medical treatment.
Defense Minister Rodrigo Rivera said the attack was a significant blow to a rebel unit that has raised the most money for the FARC through drug trafficking, and also runs a clandestine radio station.
It was the latest in a series of high profile military offensives against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) since President Juan Manuel Santos took office in August.
Eighteen guerrillas were reported killed in an attack September 19 near the border town of San Miguel.
And on September 22, the FARC's top military commander, Jorge Briceno Suarez, also known as Mono Jojoy, was killed in an attack on a FARC base in central Meta province.
The latest strike comes just before a meeting in Quito November 18 between the two countries foreign and defense ministers.
Colombia's relations with Ecuador have been strained since a March 2008 cross-border raid that killed the FARC's number two, Raul Reyes. But they have been on the mend under Santos.
In other developments, four coppers were killed and two maimed in an ambush Monday by suspected FARC rebels in the southeastern province of Valle de Cauca, police said.
An apparent round of score settling among rival narcos claimed the lives of 11 people Monday in northern Colombia.
Six people were killed in the town of Montelibano in the northeastern province of Cordoba, and five others in the city of Barranquilla after gunnies burst into a party looking for one of the guests, authorities said.

NEW YORK The first Guantanamo detainee to face a civilian trial was acquitted Wednesday of all but one of the hundreds of charges he helped unleash death and destruction on two U.S. embassies in 1998 a mixed result for what's been viewed as a terror test case.
A federal jury convicted Ahmed Ghailani of one count of conspiracy to destroy U.S. property and acquitted him on more than 280 other counts, including one murder count for each of the 224 people killed in the embassy bombings. The anonymous jurors deliberated over seven days.

Sooo, is that like 280+ defamation suits? If so that's not just, like, balking with the bases loaded, but following up with 3 intentionals to purposefully get to Bonds then throwing a hanging curve. Mixed result indeed, someone please tell me I'm wrong.

This is pretty obviously a super-major defeat for the Obama theory of fighting terror via trial in civilian court. One can hope that even if Obama and Holder do not have the intellectual honesty to admit their whole theory has been discredited, that somebody in the administration will admit it.

[Dawn] US authorities on Tuesday filed immigration fraud charges against a Pak man they said provided nearly $5,000 to the convicted Times Square bomber apparently without knowing how the money would be used. "Really. I had no idea..."
The Department of Justice said Aftab Ali, 28, entered the United States in August 2009 on a visa that allowed him entry to marry an American woman, despite her having broken off the engagement six months earlier. Ali later tried to amend his immigration papers after he married another American woman, which violated the terms of his work permit, prosecutors said.
In February 2010 he transferred $4,900 to Faisal Shahzad, who on Oct. 5 was sentenced to life in prison for trying to set off a car boom in New York's busy Times Square in May.
Authorities did not say he was aware of Shahzad's plans for the money, which was transferred as part of an informal "hawala" transaction common in Islamic societies, according to papers filed in US District Court in Boston.
Ali faces two charges, immigration fraud and making false statements. The first charge carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
He lived in Watertown, Massachusetts, just outside Boston and worked illegally at a gas station during his time in the United States, authorities said.
Another Pak immigrant, Mohammad Younis, was charged in September with running an illegal money transfer business that provided funds to Shahzad. He also was not charged with knowing how the money would be used.

[Geo TV] A Caliphornia woman has been charged with aiding the Shebab, a Somalia-based militia with ties to Al-Qaeda, the US Department of Justice said Monday.
Nima Ali Yusuf, 24, was jugged on November 12 and has been charged with "conspiracy to provide material support to hard boyz (and) conspiracy to provide material support to al-Shabaab," US attorney Laura Duffy said in a statement, using an alternative spelling of the group's name.
The San Diego resident has also been charged with "making false statements to a government agency in a matter involving international terrorism," Duffy added, without providing further details.
The first two charges each carry a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a 250,000 dollar (180,000 euro) fine. The false statements charge carries a maximum penalty of eight years and a 250,000 dollar fine.
Yusuf will be held without bail until a detention hearing on Thursday.
The Shebab, a radical Islamist insurgency bent on toppling the US-backed government in Mogadishu, grabbed credit for July 11 suicide kabooms in Uganda that killed 76 people.
Earlier this month three San Diego residents were indicted on similar charges of providing funding and other support for the Shebab.
Interesting. I wonder which particular hyphen is attached to their -American.
It was not clear whether the two cases were linked, and Duffy's office declined to comment on the matter.

Ms Yusuf is a permanent resident, moved to San Diego from Minnesota. Her husband apparently works as a baggage handler at Lindbergh Field. Both are Somali, and still have many relatives in the Olde Countrie. The family moved out of their San Diego apartment this summer, saying they were moving back to Minnesota to rejoin relatives, and gave away their possessions.
[Dawn] The possibility that at least a few beturbanned goons managed to escape from their bomb-and-gun attack scene on the CID Centre in Bloody Karachi on Thursday night has gained credence after several witnesses said that bad boyz had a getaway car waiting for them besides the truck bomb used in the devastating strike.
As many as 17 people bit the dirt and over 100 were maimed in the attack.
Rescue workers retrieved the body of a nine-year-old girl from beneath the rubble on Friday morning.
"A Shezore or a larger Mazda truck laden with explosives was used in the blast and bad guyz used a Prado jeep, whose occupants first bumped off guards posted at the CID gate, clearing the way for the truck to enter the building," a police brass hat, summing up different witness accounts, told Dawn.
An investigator who didn't want to be named said witnesses' accounts suggested that beturbanned goons had come to the CID Office through the Beaumont Road from the M.T. Khan Road.
"There is a fair chance that some of the attackers might have decamped from the scene of the crime in the Prado jeep," an investigator told Dawn.
Relying on witnesses' accounts, Sherlocks said the Prado first appeared on the scene and its occupants shot up guards posted at the CID offices.
Similarly, an occupant of the truck also came out and took part in the firing on the guards posted at the gate.
The footage of closed circuit cameras installed at the Chief Minister House, two five-star hotels and at the PIDC traffic signal has been collected and is being examined.
A clip from the CCTV footage of a five-star hotel aired by a TV channel, showed a Shehzore truck pass through the area at 7:40pm. But investigators contested that this was not the vehicle used in the blast as the strike took place 40 minutes later at 8.20pm.
It could have been another truck passing through the area, another police official said. "Inspector! How do you do it?"
Officials of different investigating agencies, including Special Investigation Group (SIG) of FIA, visited the crime scene on Friday morning to collect evidence.
FORENSIC EVIDENCE
The forensic evidence was badly spoiled by the onslaught of media personal and unconcerned people tromping through thescene of the crime with their great flat feet.
Moreover, officials of different law-enforcement agencies who visited the crime scene after the blast took away souvenirs along with them, forcing CID officials to request all agencies to return whatever piece of evidence they had picked up.
Sources at the Forensic Division told Dawn that they had not collected any evidence from the scene and all "we are doing are collection of remains of the vehicle used in the blast and verification of vehicles found at the crime scene". Sources said that even spent casings of bullets could not be collected. Talk about an amazing concentration of pure brilliance...
An FIR under the Anti-Terrorist Act was lodged with the Artillery Maidan Police Station on behalf of the state. That oughta show 'em, by Gum!
A special investigation team, headed by Additional CID IG Saud Mirza and comprising SSP CID Fayyaz Khan, SSP CID Omar Shahid and SSP Raja Omar Khattab, has been formed to investigate the attack.

[Dawn] A man carrying a bomb in a baggie and addressed to a deputy superintendent of police was jugged on Monday when he was about to deliver the parcel. [Knock knock!]
"Who's there?"
"Candygram!"
"Stick 'em up!"
SSP Alam Khan said the man arrived at the CIA Centre in Sector I-9/4 and asked the guard at the gate to deliver the parcel to the DSP. When the guard asked him to wait so that he could inform the DSP about the parcel, the man bolted after leaving the bag. However, The infamous However... police captured him after a brief chase. "Here, you! Halt or I'll [BANG! BANG! BANGETY BANG!] shoot!"
The SSP said that during the search two books -- Major Act and Minor Act -- containing over 2,000 pages were found in the bag attached with some wires. The explosives were planted in the books by making hole in pages.
Bomb disposal personnel were called to defuse the explosives.
A senior officer said the man, identified as Mohammad Rafique, was a resident of Orakzai Agency. ... home to Darra Adam Khel, the world's largest illegal arms bazaar...
His son Mohammad Hanif was a boomer who blew himself up at the gate of Naval Complex on Dec 2 last year. Two navy officers were killed and 10 others injured in the attack.
The officer said that Rafique had been associated with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam and Jamaatud Dawa in the past.
The BSc degree-holder was wanted in a number of terrorist acts and seven kidnappings for ransom in which two victims had been killed, he said.
His accomplices were identified as Hafiz Saeed, Mullah Tofan and Mullah Noor Jamal. DIG Bani Amin said that Rafique was a member of the Tehrik-i-Taliban's Majlis-i-Shura in Orakzai Agency.
He was a teacher, but after the demolition of his school by the TTP he joined the outlawed organisation. He was also a katib (writer) of Qazi Adalat set up by the TTP in the agency, the DIG said.
Rafique criminally masterminded the suicide kaboom on the Naval Complex and also played a role in an attack on the office of the UN World Food Programme. He'll got off for lack of evidence, of course...
Another terror suspect, Sepoy Noor Jahan of the Frontier Constabulary, jugged in connection with the WFP attack in March this year also spoke of the involvement of Rafique in the two attacks.

[Geo TV] Security forces late Monday claimed arresting a Taliban capo called Mohammed Rafiq, a close aide of the Ameer Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) commander Hakimullah Mehsud, Geo News reported.
Rafiq's arrest occurred in Islamabad, police told media. SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam said TTP's key commander has been nabbed.
According to him, the culprit delivered a parcel carrying a book to police personnel. The parcel had a bomb hidden under the packing. But the anticipated kaboom was averted on time.
Subsequently, the sketch of suspect was drawn with the help of police personnel who had witnessed Rafiq delivering the parcel to coppers and the same helped in leading to his arrest, SSP revealed further.
Also, SSP Tahir Alam was of the view that son of Mohammed Rafiq, the jugged culprit, had been involved in carrying out suicide kaboom on Naval Headquarters.
According to sources, nabbed commander TTP Rafiq was hailing from Orakzai district and was among key associates of Hakimullah Mehsud: the Ameer TTP.

[Asharq al-Aswat] Gunmen killed two Christians in Iraq's northern city of djinn-infested Mosul in the latest assault on the country's dwindling Christian community, officials said Tuesday.
Iraq's Christians are still reeling from last month's assault on a Storied Baghdad Catholic church that killed 68 people. An al-Qaeda group grabbed credit for the shocking four-hour siege in which 58 worshippers died inside the church that Islamic fascistihad stormed during a Sunday Mass.
And just days after the church slaughter, Islamic fascistiattacked houses of Christians across Baghdad, killing five people. The same al-Qaeda front group took responsibility for those assaults as well, saying they and the church siege were in line with Islamic bully boys' resolve to strike Christians in Iraq and wherever they can be found.
In Mosul, 225 miles (360 kilometers) northwest of Baghdad, two Christian men were sitting in their living room when gunnies broke into the house Monday night and shot them, a police officer in the northern city said.
Another house belonging to a Christian family in a different neighborhood of eastern Mosul was also bombed overnight. A police officer said that attack maimed a bystander. A doctor in Mosul confirmed the corpse count.
Both officials spoke on condition of because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
Hundreds of terrified Christian families have decamped Mosul to escape bully boy attacks and sectarian violence between Sunni and Shiite militias unleashed by the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.
Mosul is Iraq's third largest city and Christians have lived there for some 1,800 years and a number of centuries-old churches and monasteries still stand.
The city is also a former Sunni forces of Evil stronghold where Iraqi Christians were subjected to abductions and a killing campaign since 2007 when al-Qaeda Islamic fascisticontrolled many parts of the city.
