You know, it's a good thing he didn't try then. Andrew Jackson wasn't exactly a pantywaist when it came to dealing with people trying to kill him. Heck, if you really wanted to try, just challenge him to a duel, he'd of probably accepted. Course, you have to realize, shooting him just pisses him off.

Sounds like a good premise for an alt-history novel. Boothe tries to kill Jackson, Old Hickory kills Boothe's worthless ass instead (you know he would), and John Wilkes is never born.
No, I have no interest in writing it. Just tossing the idea out there into the Intertubes cyberspace for those who might....

One of Nigeria's biggest daily newspapers reported that police implicated a goat in an attempted automobile theft. In a front-page article on Friday, the Vanguard newspaper said that two men tried to steal a Mazda car two days earlier in Kwara State, with one suspect transforming himself into a goat as vigilantes cornered him.
The paper quoted police spokesman Tunde Mohammed as saying that while one suspect escaped, the other transformed into a goat as he was about to be apprehended.
The newspaper reported that police paraded the goat before journalists, and published a picture of the animal.
Police in the state couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

A Bahamas senator accused of trying to extort money from actor John Travolta after his son's death resigned on Saturday and vowed to prove her innocence.
Sen. Pleasant Bridgewater, an attorney from Grand Bahama, said she plans to fight "untrue and unfair charges" stemming from actions she took as a lawyer. "How these innocent actions can be so misconstrued, so perversely twisted to mean something other than it was, is a mystery," she said without providing more details.
Bridgewater could not be immediately reached for comment.
Travolta had filed a complaint of attempted extortion, according to police, but did not release any details of the alleged plot. The actor and his wife Kelly Preston have returned home to Florida with the ashes of their 16-year-old, chronically ill son, Jett, who died of a seizure this month at their family vacation home on Grand Bahama.

A British tabloid newspaper is reporting that Prince Harry and his longtime girlfriend have broken up.
The News of the World reported on its Web site Saturday that the prince, 24, and Chelsy Davy decided to split up after a series of talks last week. Harry, third in line to the throne, began training to become an Army helicopter pilot earlier this month. He and Davy, a 23-year-old law student, had been dating for about five years, the paper said.
Prince Harry's office at St. James's Palace said there would be no comment on the report.

I'm sorry, the pic is too close to the article. I can't read what the article is about? Will someone explain, with single syllable words and writing slowly (so I can keep up)? I like pink!!
NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's heart bypass surgery was a success and he will be fit to campaign in May elections, doctors said. The surgery Saturday lasted nearly 11 hours, said Dr. K. Srinath Reddy, one of the team of 11 doctors involved in the operation. He said the prime minister was conscious and stable and being monitored in the hospital's intensive care unit.
The 76-year-old Singh should be fully recovered and able to resume his duties in six weeks, Reddy said. Singh had bypass surgery in England in 1990 and another heart procedure in 2004.
Singh has held office since 2004 and is expected to run as the Congress Party's candidate for prime minister in elections to be held before May.
"There won't be any restrictions on his campaigning," said Dr. A Sampath Kumar, another doctor on the team, adding that Singh chose to have the surgery now so he would be fit in time for the polls.
A thought: notice that whenever the big cheese in a third-world shithole needs complex surgery or treatment for some grave disorder, they almost always come to the West. Singh needs a re-do of his previous bypass -- NOT an easy surgery by any means -- and he has it done at home. Says a thing or two about India ...
