Oregon lawmakers announced Monday they will review state ethics laws after about 150 public officials resigned in recent weeks rather than disclose personal information.
The review comes after the Legislature made major ethics law changes last year. Those changes added new requirements for what has to be listed on the Statement of Economic Interest that public officials file each year. The changes also added more than 1,000 elected and appointed officials to those who must file the forms... I wonder how many of those officials names were followed with (D).

Problem: Too many public officials resigning because of potential ethics violations.
(Democratic)Solution: Change the rules to redefine "ethics violations".
Disclaimer: actually, the story says they resigned rather than reveal personal information, so it may not be that they resigned because of ethics violations. It is possible that they just didn't want to reveal personal information.

You mean like the blood relations or marriage relations they've hired or directed contracts to? Blood can be very personal.

Probably similar to why contracting-specialists are leaving the government. The threat of legal liability should you be defined as having 'screwed up' just isn't worth it.
TEMPE, Ariz. - Police say a man accidentally shot himself in the stomach after waving his gun in anger at a fellow motorist in Tempe, Ariz.Tempe police spokesman Brandon Banks says David Lopez is expected to survive and could face charges including disorderly conduct, reckless display of a firearm and felony flight from police.
Banks says Monday that after Lopez shot himself he tried to evade police by driving away but crashed his car and was arrested as he fled on foot.
Banks says it's unclear what sparked the Friday confrontation and that the 33-year-old Lopez has been evasive in police interviews. The other driver was uninjured but also fled the scene and was arrested on a charge of drunken driving. I think you found the answer. Alcohol.

Brett Lieberman, "Pennsyltucky Politics" blog (Patriot-News)
They loved her hair, they smacked her butt, there was hooting, hollering and a whole lot of hugging going on Friday night as Chelsea Clinton hit Philadelphia's gay bars for what campaign aides called a "gay pub crawl."
"Chelsea, the gays love you!" Jeff Guaracino, 35, shouted as the former and potential first daughter took the stage at Bumps, the first of four stops at gay and lesbian bars that kept Chelsea and Rendell bar hopping until 1 a.m.
"Oh, gosh, I don't know if everybody loves me," responded Chelsea, who made her first visit to the city's gay clubs a couple weeks earlier and has made similar stops at gay bars in other cities while campaigning for her mother, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
"We love your hair," he yelled back and prompting another "oh gosh" from the embarrassed 28-year-old.
The reception was no less enthusiastic at the second stop at Sisters, a lesbian bar, where excited women grinding to Kool and the Gang's "Celebration" barely allowed Chelsea to speak because they kept interrupting her with applause and cheers. . . .
For most, including Chelsea and the governor, it was a night of fun.
"I grabbed her ass," shouted one woman, prompting surprised looks and laughter from Chelsea and campaign staff escorting her.
"I've been trying to find you all night and I found you and you're gorgeous," Dustin Thorn, 31, of Philadelphia told her.
"I think Chelsea looks better in person and she's got the body and ass of life," said Christoper Murray after wrapping his arms around her and giving her a big hug. Now there's an informed voter making a rational decision on the issues, if ever there was!

I look forward to the biggest sign of GLBT approval: imitation.
The trannies already dress up like Cher, Elizabeth Taylor, Judy Garland, and Madonna. Maybe they will soon have Chelsea or Hillary dress-alike contests.

Read some comments on a Stanford website a few months back. Seems Chelsea was well known for providing "Monica moments" when she was attending that august institution. Given her looks, the information didn't surprise me; she'd need to do something more than just smile and be friendly to have much hope of getting dates.

While the quality of Chelsea's ass is currently unkown (pictures, anyone?), it hardly seems like a reason to vote for her mom's ass for president. For that matter it's no reason to vote for either of the two Asses vieing for the oval office.
PATNA, India (Rooters) - Hundreds of villagers have flocked to a remote Indian village to see a baby girl who was saved by stray dogs after she was abandoned in a mound of mud by her mother, officials said on Tuesday.
Villagers in the eastern state of Bihar saved the newborn on the weekend after they saw three dogs barking near a baby covered with mud. "The dogs removed the soil around and began to bark and the baby started crying which drew attention of the local villagers," Ram Narayan Sahani, a senior government official, said on Tuesday from Bihar's Samastipur district. "The girl is crying but is safe in the lap of a childless couple who have adopted her."
Police said they were looking for the girl's mother, who they think had left the girl to die.
Why, so that she can finish the job?
Female foeticide, though illegal in India, is widespread as boys are traditionally preferred to girls as breadwinners, and families have to pay huge dowries to marry off their daughters.
The United Nations says an estimated 2,000 unborn girls are illegally aborted every day in India.
KINSHASA (Rooters) - Police in Congo have arrested 13 suspected sorcerers accused of using black magic to steal or shrink men's penises after a wave of panic and attempted lynchings triggered by the alleged witchcraft.
Reports of so-called penis snatching are not uncommon in West Africa, where belief in traditional religions and witchcraft remains widespread, and where ritual killings to obtain blood or body parts still occur.
Rumours of penis theft began circulating last week in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo's sprawling capital of some 8 million inhabitants. They quickly dominated radio call-in shows, with listeners advised to beware of fellow passengers in communal taxis wearing gold rings.
Purported victims, 14 of whom were also detained by police, claimed that sorcerers simply touched them to make their genitals shrink or disappear, in what some residents said was an attempt to extort cash with the promise of a cure.
"You just have to be accused of that, and people come after you. We've had a number of attempted lynchings. ... You see them covered in marks after being beaten," Kinshasa's police chief, Jean-Dieudonne Oleko, told Reuters on Tuesday.
Police arrested the accused sorcerers and their victims in an effort to avoid the sort of bloodshed seen in Ghana a decade ago, when 12 suspected penis snatchers were beaten to death by angry mobs. The 27 men have since been released.
"I'm tempted to say it's one huge joke," Oleko said. Except for the dead guys, I guess.
"But when you try to tell the victims that their penises are still there, they tell you that it's become tiny or that they've become impotent. To that I tell them, 'How do you know if you haven't gone home and tried it'," he said.
Some Kinshasa residents accuse a separatist sect from nearby Bas-Congo province of being behind the witchcraft in revenge for a recent government crackdown on its members.
"It's real. Just yesterday here, there was a man who was a victim. We saw. What was left was tiny," said 29-year-old Alain Kalala, who sells phone credits near a Kinshasa police station.

Jeebus, here in the States, we grow out of that adolescent behavior in middle-school P.E. class. And, according to *multiculturalism*, we're supposed to respect these yay-hoos?

As Richard Pryor once told the story of Mr. Mudbone's account of being trapped in Ms. Rudolph's house in search for a cure for his friends ailments: "That's when I put my hand on my knife...for I figure, If somebody get hurt in here...I'aint gonna be the last one!"
Touch my jewels, shrink my manhood!!! You most likely will be drawing back a handless wrist, for your efforts.

What a way with words.....

reminds me of the old frontier joke where Grandma was surrounded by Indians; she was beating them off, but they coming and coming.....

The cognative dissonance between "They quickly dominated radio call-in shows" and "using black magic to steal or shrink men's penises " makes my head hurt.
How can anyone in a first world country cope with this? Just the black magic, okay. That's what you get in stone age tribal society. But black magic on radio talk shows???????????

Don't be too quick to blame the Africans for this. some Asians, too, have bizarre outbreaks of "disappearing penis syndrome".
What catches the eye is that no matter where it happens, or when, *the psychology is the same*. The odds of that occurring naturally are very slim.
The only difference I note is that the Africans tend to blame others for the problem, but Asians think that somehow, their abdomen is pulling their penis back inside their body for good.
The typical Asian response is to hold on to their penis continually, and when sleeping, to have one or more family members hold on to it.
One western doctor in China found a solution by temporarily inducing priapism, extended erection, in the affected males. After three or four hours of having an almost painful erection, the syndrome seemed to vanish.
And the doctor would be celebrated by a very, very grateful family.

I vaguely recall a story on the news many(Many)years ago about a sudden cold snap in one of the normaly hot areas of china, Chinese men were tying strings and weights to their Peters thinking they were going to shrink into the body and be gone, they had no previous experience with cold weather, and didn't know it was normal to shrink up in cold weather.

A JUDGE has called for the reform of child pornography laws after jailing a man for possessing more than 35,000 images of "the most disturbing and depraved kind", including the torture and abuse of babies and bestiality.
Nigel Keith Saddler, 35, pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing child pornography after he was caught with a vast collection of material considered the most serious of its kind.
NSW District Court judge Peter Berman said harsh sentences were needed to reduce demand and express the community's "horror". "The callousness and inhumanity of a person who could get pleasure out of viewing such images is beyond comprehension," he said.
But during sentencing on Friday, Justice Berman raised concerns about "inadequate" child pornography laws, saying they did not reflect the gravity of Saddler's offending. He said people who had thousands of images did not face a charge in relation to each item, meaning Saddler was being sentenced on three charges that covered thousands of images and videos. The three charges related to the locations where the child pornography was found.
He said offenders should not be able to take advantage of computer advances, such as storage capacity, to face single charges over multiple items. "I am not suggesting that it would be in any way appropriate to lay thousands of charges, one relating to each item of child pornography," Justice Berman said. "But items could be grouped according to when they were downloaded, whether they were still images or moving pictures, the nature of the sexual activity depicted and so on."
Saddler sat with his head bowed as Justice Berman detailed the list of videos and photographs found in his possession. Saddler admitted having 35,508 still images, 687 movies and 77 archived photos. Some depicted the "gross abuse" of children, including the infliction of pain on children younger than 12 months.
"It has to be recognised that the actions of people like this offender create a demand for material of this horrifying type," Justice Berman said.
A spokesman for NSW Attorney-General John Hatzistergos said the penalty for possession of child pornography was more than doubled in 2005. He said Mr Hatzistergos had also asked the Sentencing Council to review penalties for sexual assault offences, particularly child pornography.
Justice Berman sentenced Saddler to six years behind bars, with a non-parole period of four years and six months.

Why not ... what I was going to say was far too horrible for a family blog.
There is one kind of people the Christ seems unable to forgive: "Woe to those who scandlize the little ones". I suspect that he was referring to pedophiles, the one crime even he cannnot forgive.
As an interesting note, the Iranians used to issue such "keys to paradise" to children before using them to clear minefields and charge the guns of the Iraqis.
