KUSA - 9NEWS has confirmed from two sources that the DNA taken from John Mark Karr does not match the DNA samples taken from the crime scene in the JonBenet Ramsey murder case.
9NEWS has also confirmed from different sources that no charges will be filed against Karr in connection with the Ramsey case by the Boulder County District Attorney's office.
Samples of Karr's saliva and hair were taken in Boulder after his arrival on Thursday. Those samples were tested over the weekend inside the Denver Police Department's Crime lab.
9NEWS has confirmed that Karr's DNA is ruled out as the foreign DNA left on JonBenet Ramsey's body when she was murdered in December 1996.
JonBenet was covered in a blanket when her body was found. Foreign hair fibers were found on that blanket and they did not match any of the Ramsey family or approximately 100 people that were tested.
Karr was taken into custody in Bangkok, Thailand earlier this month in connection with the murder. He arrived in Boulder Thursday afternoon on a probable cause warrant for charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and sexual assault on a child.
Karr said at a press conference in Thailand he was with JonBenet when she died.
Karr is scheduled to be in court Monday afternoon for an advisement hearing.
He still faces charges of child pornography in California.

A herd of elephants led by example and proved that a friend in need is a friend indeed. This is a lesson that humans could well learn.
An elephant while moving in a maize field in Gailunga village of Raigarh district fell into a well on Sunday.
On hearing its agonised trumpeting, the rest of the herd located their fallen comrade in a well that was still under construction. The cries of distress brought the humans out as well but apart from a lot of hand wringing, they gave up on the animal.
But the herd had other ideas. The well was about 15 feet deep but as it was under construction it didn't have a parapet. There was also a rough passage on one side of the well.
One of the elephants stood at the edge of the well and joined trunks with the one inside. The other elephants lined up behind the leader and in a tail tug-of-war helped pull their fallen friend outside.

Arkport native Chuck Simmins isn't buying all the hype surrounding avian flu, and he's a little concerned about how one local municipality is preparing for it.

Chuck comments here, and he and I have disagreed on a number of issues relating to bird. He is right about the importance of hand washing and getting a regular flu vax, but he then goes on to perpetuate a couple of myths.
Simmins, said only N95 masks can prevent infection.
Nonsense. The reason hand washing is important is that people unconciously touch the mucous membranes of the face, all the time, tranferring the virus to where it can infect the body. Any mask, even a homemade one will prevent this because it is a physical barrier.
SARS did not peter out. It was contained by quite draconian measures, including forced isolation.

It makes sense for local governments to stock up on several items: disposable rubber gloves, ordinary ear loop masks, clear plastic glasses, and hand sanitizer.
The reason being that we assume that our medical system will be overwhelmed--not hard really, because it has very little reserve of anything. This means that most people will be stuck at home.
A very useful and effective thing a local government can do is to organize a large number of people to go door-to-door, to check on the well-being of the residents. Fortunately, most people today have phones, so phone banks will help this situation a lot.
They visitors wear long sleeved garments, ear loop masks, eyeglasses and they keep their distance.
Every day they check each house and apartment where no one has answered the phone, noting which ones have sick people, calling for emergency help if needed, and arranging for body recovery when a death happens. In extreme situations, they may even deliver emergency food rations.
Since animals may also be affected, they notify for pick up of any dead or stray animals they see.
The clear glasses and ear loop masks keep out virus-carrying large droplets, and the gloves and hand sanitizer are in case they have to touch something. (Most people need to be taught to sanitize their gloves after use.)
They may even each carry some small plastic bags and rubber bands to put over their shoes in case they have to walk through something, like vomit.
They serve all sorts of uses: handing out information and local news, giving vaccinations when they become available, detecting early-stage symptoms so they can advise the family to set up a sick room and avoid that family member for a while, and posting quarantine signs.
Fortunately, most cities have automated garbage pick-up, which gets rid of the sudden surge in medical waste safely. Chlorinated water is also a big plus.
The bottom line is that America hasn't seen a real killer flu since the Spanish flu, and no major deadly epidemic since WWII. So what we do today will be a combination of what worked way back when, but using the tools available to us today.
It will, however, still be like nothing we can imagine.

I was doing some research on pandemics recently, and discovered that the flu epidemics of 1957 (I think - don't have the data with me) and 1968 were considered pandemics - though they killed in the low millions worldwide instead of the 50 to 100 million killed by the 1918 epidemic.
I was just 11 years old in 1957, but I'm surprised I don't remember the 1968 epidemic, when I was in college. Of course, it's possible the news just didn't report it as an epidemic to prevent panic (something they'd never do now).
I can attest to the effectiveness of hand sanitizer (Purell, etc.) in killing germs. Since I started using it a lot, particularly in winter, I haven't had a cold in years (knock wood). I make it a conscious habit not to touch my face until I've used it, whenever I shake hands with anyone, put my hands on public door handles, elevator buttons, etc., or handle money - especially money. Handwashing with soap is great, but rarely available at the checkout. I buy a huge jug at Sam's or Costco and keep refilling my smaller bottles (office, purse, rescue gear).
I've attended some good training re: pandemics in the last month, plus done some research, as I said. It's a good idea for localities to stockpile masks, gloves, etc. These things will help if/when a pandemic arrives. I think at least some governments (cities, states, feds) are making some good preparations, but the weak link is that most businesses still haven't even thought about how they'll be able to continue functioning during a pandemic, let alone put together a business survival plan (which should include planning to function with up to 50% absenteeism for an extended period, and a fair number of deaths).
As 'Moose says, "It will, however, still be like nothing we can imagine."
I'm not looking forward to it.

You might have seen films or flipped through comic strips about the adventures of Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Tarzan could communicate with animals but not with humans after having lived with apes and other denizens of the forest.
Muhammad Iqbal, an Indian expatriate, too could not communicate with humans after tending camels for 13 years in the desert of Al-Summan in the Thumama district near Riyadh. Then, following a chance encounter with his own compatriot, he slowly regained his voice and his memory. He then realized, I have only milk to live on and no money. And thereby hangs a tale.
Iqbal, who hails from a district in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, came to Riyadh in 1993 to work as a camel herd for his Saudi sponsor. Soon he was packed off to Al-Summan, where he tended camels and drank their milk. He was practically cut off from human contact. His exposure to camels enabled him to communicate with those animals, responding to their likes and dislikes, and carry on a symbiotic living. He had also become a denizen of the desert.
Dubai: The Al Ghusais Police has filed a fresh case against a Mexican gang. According to court sources, the four suspects will face a new trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance after Al Ghusais Police filed a fresh case against the gang on charges of stealing from residential villas. The gang of four identified as J.J., R.L., J.R. and A.M. were sentenced last month to three months in jail and deportation.
The Dubai Public Prosecution appealed against the verdict. The two cases will now be heard by the end of this month. The defence lawyer told Gulf News earlier that evidence against his clients was "weak".
In March, police busted the gang for stealing laptops, computer equipment and other valuable electronic appliances and jewellery from villas while their occupants were away. Police arrested the suspects after setting a trap, following a number of complaints of burglary. The gang also used to send the stolen jewellery by cargo to an Asian country where the wife of one suspect owns a jewellery shop.

Keith Richards is used to an occasional run-in with the police, most notably drug charges during the 60s and 70s, but his law-breaking days appeared to be behind him. But the legendary rock band's guitarist is now being investigated by Glasgow city council after it received reports that he had broken Scotland's smoking ban.
Council officials confirmed yesterday they are to launch an inquiry to whether the Stones' axeman lit up on stage at Glasgow's Hampden Park last Friday night when the band played there in their Bigger Bang European tour.
A city spokesman said: "This has been brought to our attention and we will be looking into it. Glasgow city council takes its responsibility for enforcing the smoking ban very seriously." The law came into force in March and bans smoking in enclosed public places. Its aim is to reduce the health damage caused by second-hand tobacco smoke. Environmental officers are responsible for enforcing the ban and inspections.
Richards is one of rock's true hell-raisers and known for his consumption of stimulants including tobacco, but was recently in the news for an operation on his skull after falling from a tree in May, causing the legendary band to cancel some tour dates.
If found guilty of smoking, Richards would have to pay a £50 fine. The manager of any premises who allows others to smoke can also be fined £200.
The investigation by Glasgow comes after actor Mel Smith was prevented from lighting a cigar as part of a theatre show. The comedian, playing Winston Churchill in a show at the Edinburgh Fringe, had threatened to ignore the law and light up during the performance. Instead the Smith and Jones star picked up the cigar and lighter props before putting them down again unused. "Off with his head!"

Another example of how rumour morphs into fact. An Australian reporter called up the resort and confirmed he fell out of a hammock. The original story was he fell out of a coconut palm. A healthy teenager would find climbing a coconut palm a serious challenge, never mind a 60 year old man.
Evidence of a building linked to the myth of King Arthur and the knights of the round table has been found at Windsor Castle.
The circular structure was built by Edward III in the 14th century to house the round table intended to seat the original 300 Knights of the Garter. Archaeological proof of the building was uncovered by members of Channel 4's Time Team in the castle's quadrangle.
Although the stones have been removed, rubble in-fill where they were originally located remained in place. The show's presenter, Tony Robinson, said the discovery could help settle years of debate among historians over the existence of the building. "The round table building is one of our most significant ever archaeological finds. It is something that helped to establish Arthurian legends of the knights of the round table.
"We set out to uncover the walls of the building, and they are just where we hoped. Experts have speculated about the structure for centuries, but they have never been able to find the actual building."
It was one of several remarkable finds made by archaeologists given unprecedented access to three Royal residences.
At Buckingham Palace, finds ranged from a small piece of pre-Roman flint to a gold earring or piece of necklace, possibly from the Victorian era. Experts also found a stoneware beer mug probably thrown away by workmen landscaping the gardens in about 1700.
At Holyroodhouse, the Queen's official Scottish residence, a 17th or 18th century seal, probably used to stamp wax on documents, was uncovered.
The digs were allowed to go after months of negotiations with representatives of the Royal family. A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said all the findings will be catalogued and the survey results will be added to the Royal archive at Windsor.

The origin of the symbol of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, a blue 'garter' with the motto Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense will probably never be known for certain as the earliest records of the order were destroyed by fire, however the story goes that at a Ball possibly held at Calais, Joan Countess of Salisbury dropped her garter and King Edward seeing her embarrassment picked it up and bound it about his own leg saying in French, Evil, (or shamed) be he that that thinks evil of it' this is almost certainly a later fiction. This fable appears to have originated in France and was, perhaps, invented to try and bring discredit on the Order. There is a natural unwillingness to believe that the World's foremost Order of Chivalry had so frivolous a beginning.
It is thought more likely that as the garter was a small strap used as a device to attach pieces of armour, it might have been thought appropriate to use the garter as a symbol of binding together in common brotherhood.

ALEX Salmond is on track to take Scotland to the brink of independence, according to a startling new poll which shows the SNP has opened up a clear lead over Labour. With just eight months to go until the Holyrood elections, the party has established a four-point lead over its nearest rivals, and appears to be pulling away.
The SNP claims that if the poll result was repeated at voting booths next year it would eradicate Labour's majority at the Scottish Parliament. If Salmond becomes First Minister, he has pledged to introduce a bill for an independence referendum within 100 days of taking up office.
The poll is the first major test of public opinion in Scotland since Tony Blair incensed many within his own party over his support for Israel during the conflict in Lebanon. Both the two main parties in Scotland that oppose Blair's foreign policy, the SNP and Liberal Democrats, appear to have gained as a result, with Labour well down on their 2003 showing.
Polling experts said the results confirmed that next year's election race would be the closest yet for control of the Scottish Parliament.
In an interview with Scotland on Sunday today, the SNP leader set out his plans for his first few weeks in office, declaring he will govern with "a hard head and a soft heart".
But Labour insisted that once voters had assessed the cost of separating from the rest of the UK, support for the SNP would dissipate.
The poll, conducted by Scottish Opinion, asked 1,000 Scots who they intended to support next year. It did not, however, break the question down into first and second votes to reflect the Scottish electoral system. Scottish Opinion carried out the poll to determine the correct balance of public opinion on focus groups which it carries out for the SNP. The party passed a copy of its findings to this newspaper.
A total of 58% expressed a preference for a political party. Of those, 33% said they supported the SNP, up from the 24% who backed them in 2003. Labour secured 29% of support, down six percentage points from 2003. The Liberal Democrats won 19%, up four points. The Tories have slumped to 10%, down seven points. The Greens are on 5%.

Far better off ZF, faaar better off. Putting it bluntly, the Socialist Swine masquerading as the Labour party would be - fucked. They got about 40 seats from Scotland in the last general election (2005) and the Conservatives hardly ever get a showing north of the border.

The purpose of the Scottish and Welsh parliaments is to take money from the English to give to the Scots and Welsh to support their quaint cultures. Why should they take it from themselves to give to themselves. Espeically since they aren't quaint.

The report suggests each priest should be able to choose himself whether to he wants to marry a homosexual couple.
According to a survey to which the report refers, some 46 percent of Swedes are positive to gay marriage, while 31 percent are negative. About 23 percent are undecided.
A poll done by the report showed that 84 percent of Swedes felt a religious body should be able to decide for itself whether it wanted to perform such marriages.
Christian Democrat Yvonne Andersson, who took part in the reports reference group, is critical to the recommendation.
Less than half o the people support homosexual marriage and you still want to carry it out, she said. I am disappointed that the report is so nonchalant about the opinion.
The suggestion is welcomed by Arthur Thiery, head of Riks-Ekho, an association for Christian homosexuals.
Those of us who have entered a civil union would have chosen to marry if the opportunity had existed, he said, according to SVT. The important thing for us is that marriage in church is upheld. We dont want to do away with the church ceremony.

I can see why so many Swedes are quietly embracing the Asatru (Aesir) religion in favor of that dour version of Lutheranism. They say about half the houses in rural Sweden already have some household gods sitting around.

Delaware WAS a slave state. It was not a Confederate state. IE it was identical to Maryland in that regard. And effectively similar to Kentucky, despite the Confederacy recognizing Kentucky as a Confed state, based mainly on wishful thinking, IIUC.
Deleware, is therefore, normally considered a border state. Though it had fewer slaves than Md or Kentucky, and it provided troops to the North but not the South, unlike Md which had about equal numbers of volunteers on each side. So Delaware was about the most northern leaning of the border states, and today is pretty much a northeastern state in its politics, at least as much as Maryland and much more so than Virginia. So Biden is stretching things a bit, but on the historical question hes right.

I think what Joe meant to say is that Delaware, a state with the 8th largest black population, is currently a Plantation State run by white liberal Democrats with the consent of a majority of the black population.

On this matter, Slow Joe is technically correct: slavery was legal (though not widespread) in Delaware right up until the 13th Amendment went into effect.

LW, I will concede that Delaware was a slave state but nobody will ever confuse it with a "Souther State" and I thougth I would never a modern politician speak of slavery as a positive. Kind of like saying: "My ancestors owned them, so I know whats best for them." I think his mouth kept running when his brain turned off.

missouris is considered a border state, but the confed claim it had seceded makes a bit more sense, since the Mo legislature DID support seccession. But the convention called to declare secession opposed it, and so when Missouris own civil war broke out, the convention was declared by the Union to be the rightful govt of Missouri.
IIUC Baltimore is seperate from Balt County cause in the 19th c Balt was wealthy, the rural areas were poor, and so the city wanted to secede from the county for fiscal reasons, and had enough clout in Annapolis to pull it off. Kinda ironic how that one turned out, huh? :)
Re: Biden Hes not saying slavery was at all good, or that he knows whats best for black folk. Hes responding to folks who say the Dems can only win with a southerner at the head of the ticket, and giving that as a reason to nominate Warner or Gore or Clark, by saying "hey, Im a southerner too". If somebody says that sitting US Senators rarely win, he'll probably try to explain that hes not really a US Senator, or something. ;)

I'd say her comments reflected appalling stupidity and that she's not the person I'd want representing me in the Senate. I hate seeing that seat go to a Democrat, but I still wouldn't vote for Katherine.
Reminds me of the choice I had last election for the Senate: Barack Obama, a very liberal but reasonable sounding guy, or the wingnut fool Alan Keyes. Had to hold my nose and shut my eyes as I punched out the chad for Mr. Obama, but that's what I did.

Well, both sides frame the debate incorrectly. The left frames it as a separation meaning no mention of God or religion in public life., i.e., freedom FROM religion. Harris' side frames it as no separation whatsoever, to the extent that Christianity becomes the de facto official religion. The truth is much more profound and practical: Freedom OF religion. No official state church, and no prohibition from exercising the religion of your choice. That's all it says. Read it for yourself.

I'm kinda leaning your way Art. I don't like here tactics but she is more right than wrong. After watching years of attempts by the ACLU to try to take down our Mt. Soledad War Memorial (which is a cross) on the basis of separation of church and state I have altered my opinion somewhat. The 1st Amendment says "Congress shall may no law respecting the establishment of religion" but it also goes on to say "or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." It is the second part of that first sentence that concerns me the most. Atheists/Agnostics are trying to prevent people (Christians in particular) from expressing their religious views everywhere. Whether it's a cross on a hill or teachings at school they believe Christianity should not be visible. And there's no evidence the founding fathers ever intended that. Here in California 4th graders have to learn about Islam. They pick an Islamic name and in some schools dress up in traditional Islamic garb. But just try to teach them the 10 commandments and the ACLU will be on you like white on rice. In reality every lawmaker brings their personal beliefs to work with them whether they say it or not. They make judgement calls on right and wrong every day. And for most people those judgement calls are impacted by thier religious beliefs.

A U.S. Border Patrol agent fatally shot a man who was throwing rocks at officers from the Mexican side of the border late Saturday, officials said. The incident began after agents spotted a suspicious vehicle near the Andrade Port of Entry west of the California-Arizona border, just north of the international border and alongside the Colorado River.
The driver fled and then tried to swim across a pond along the river in an effort to return to Mexico, the agency said. But the man struggled to stay afloat, and agents began to try to rescue him. Several people on the other side of the border then began throwing rocks at the agents, and one officer was struck in the head. The officer then shot at a man who was getting ready to throw another rock, the Border Patrol said. Mexican authorities took the man to a hospital, where he died.
Attacks on Border Patrol agents have become more common in recent years. This year, agents say they're seeing smugglers become even more violent.
The number of vehicles illegally entering Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument from Mexico has dropped by more than 95 percent since 30 miles of vehicle barriers were completed in July. Managers of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge to the east hope a similar fencing project set for later this year will have the same effect. To the west, the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge is also set to receive the barriers.
Eventually, most of Arizona's border with Mexico will be lined with the barriers, some made of century-old railroad tracks welded into V's and planted in the ground every few feet. But it is not cheap: The 30-mile stretch at Organ Pipe cost about $13 million.
Managers of the wildlife refuges and national monument said the fragile ecology of the desert areas was being destroyed by thousands of illegal smugglers and criminal gangs border crossers and their vehicles. A large amount of frozen chicken and beef which did not carry the halal certification mark from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, as well as pork were found kept in two freezers at a house in Jalan Kerma Negara in Kuala Belait. In the surprise inspection by the Halal Food Control Section Unit of the Syariah Department in Kuala Belait with the assistance of another unit from Bandar Seri Begawan at around 5pm yesterday, the officers found the pork, chicken and beef kept in one of two vehicles believed to be used by a food vendor - a female Muslim convert staying at the house.
The woman, aged 48, had been allegedly selling and supplying frozen meat to the public, especially at foreign workers quarters and work sites. The female suspect who is renting the house with her husband, children and her workers, also kept a quite a large quantity of goods listed as controlled items by the Customs Department. The goods included sugar and flour kept in the kitchen cabinet and various types of medicines kept in the bedroom and living room. A large quantity of empty tins, believed to have previously contained alcoholic drinks, was also found in a basket outside her house.

But a different kind of noise was in the air, its the last noise these people who came to say goodbye to a hero, wanted to hear.

Along with other motorcycle groups and clubs, they have been making it to all of the northwest military funerals. For a while it looked like the show of force would center on supporting the family of Mark Lee, the reason everybody was there. They come from all backgrounds, most are veterans, and they are serious about supporting the families of those who have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
They had their work cut out for them, and they had help from the locals. Then the alarm was sounded for uninvited guests.
MJ Kesterson is the mom of Blackhawk helicopter pilot Erik Kesterson who was killed in Mosul, Iraq in 2003. She said it was outrageous that anyone would fail to see the sacrifice her son and Marc Lee had made, They wore those uniforms with pride. Im extremely proud of my son for serving his country.
And there, waiting to yell her beliefs in the face of everyone was Margie Phelps. As she began singing a mockery of the Navy song, veterans raised the noise level on her.
It was something about RPGs and IODs and die, die die die sung to Anchors Away. The veterans surrounded the woman ahd held their flags high as they grimaced over the sounds she produced, as offensive and indecent as anything a person could imagine.
It sounded like two groups and first and plenty of people, but only about five members of the Westboro Church showed up. The word is that the group is running low on money, theyre traveling less
Scowling and yelling insults at the veterans, the Westboro Baptist Church members from Kansas showed their colors and many people said the outward hatred they profess seems contrary to anything like Christianity.
Confrontational right down to the last word, Margie Phelps hurled more insults than a bully on an elementary school playground. Any chance of making a sound point was lost as the irrational blabber droned on.
As Phelps continued pelting the veterans with insults, she also made a victim of an active duty Army soldier in uniform, Hey, theres an Army soldier, rape anybody lately?
My longer than average hair earned the title of maam when she spoke to me. She called the veterans crybabies and said it was Americas fault that God was killing the servicemen. The video has much of her dialogue and that amounts to a collection of the most whacked out fundamentalist religious values that Ive ever heard anyone try to lay down.
A plan was in place to drown the hate protestors out as the family and official party arrived. Motors revved and even the bagpiper came through to drown out the words of this Midwest hate group.
The family arrived and saw little to nothing of Phelps and her band of women with hate signs. They went on to bury Marc Lee without interruption from the unwanted group that was allowed to protest at a distance from where the actual service was held. For many, the protestors are simply baffling.
Phelps and her followers come in the wake of the Westboro Church reverend Fred Phelps. Word is he wont go out in public because its too dangerous, imagine that?
While they say they like to be in the news, they only show their harsh hateful side and it seems important to expose this small, extreme right wing fundamental religious extremist group for what it is, anything but religious.
The harsh noise of this hate group was drowned out by music from a bagpipe intended to honor the dead, and their efforts accomplished nothing in the way of diminishing the purpose of the day.

It is hard to draw the line on exactly where the role of a media group is with all of this, but as one, if not the only news organization in the country that is primarily staffed and operated by veterans, we feel it is our duty to sound the alarm, because the Westboro Baptist Church will be considered invaders by most people here, and their unsavory behavior is clearly not in Oregons good public interest.

The group threatened to show up at a New Mexico funeral as well. Never showed. However, unlike the placid green hills of blue Oregon, NM is still the wild west where shoot'n irons are still nearby. Heck the local boys usually shoot it out after the bars close on the weekend just to keep in practice. Got to have something to do.
The dignity of the people holding flags and doing their best for the family was something to see though.

These Phelpses are no McGovernites. They're a couple of extra steps down the road Pat Robertson was on when he blamed 9/11 on the US's toleration of gays, femnists and liberals. NEW ORLEANS - City officials have set Tuesday - the storm's first anniversary - as the deadline for homeowners to gut or otherwise clean up their properties. "The city needs to do what it needs to do," councilman Arnie Fielkow said at a meeting Friday. People who don't comply with the deadline after being put on notice face a range of possible penalties, from liens being placed on their property to the seizure or destruction of homes.
The Lower Ninth Ward, one of the neighborhoods hardest hit by Katrina, is exempt from the gutting deadline, although residents will be expected to take care of their damaged houses by an unspecified future date. Others may be exempt, too, if they have an "acceptable" excuse, such as being on the list for a gutting service that hasn't gotten around to their property yet, according to the ordinance.
Enforcement could begin any time after Tuesday. That bothers Patricia Jones, who works at a recovery center. She said many people remain displaced or are waiting for checks or direction from city officials before deciding what they should do. And she wonders how the city will handle the open-ended deadline for the Lower Ninth, where she lived before Katrina. "The city hasn't even done their part in a year," she said, noting that many public schools remain closed and housing is still in short supply.
That's not an excuse, Lakeview resident Jim Roy said. Residents aren't being asked to rebuild by Tuesday, just to clean up and secure houses that could become health hazards. Roy said the city might be providing too many exceptions that may hinder the intent of the measure. "Give people a hard and fast date or they delay, delay, delay for one reason or another," he said.

Dubai: The Al Ghusais Police has filed a fresh case against a Mexican gang. According to court sources, the four suspects will face a new trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance after Al Ghusais Police filed a fresh case against the gang on charges of stealing from residential villas. The gang of four identified as J.J., R.L., J.R. and A.M. were sentenced last month to three months in jail and deportation.
Protests spread as thousands of farmers took to the streets across northern Bangladesh yesterday over the shooting deaths of at least five people protesting an open-pit coalmine in the region, officials said. Hundreds of paramilitary and police stood guard outside coalmining firm Asia Energy in Phulbari where security forces allegedly shot into a crowd of protesters Saturday who tried to storm the offices. More than 50 people were injured, police said. At least 10 of the injured are critical and receiving treatment locally, hospital staffers said.

The administration of Al-Mawrid Foundation has expressed concern over the attempted assassination of Islami scholar Syed Manzoorul Hassan and said that it was not still unclear if the incident was terrorism or a roadside robbery, Al-Mawrid would not retaliate and instead forgive the attackers if investigations revealed that it was indeed an act of terrorism. According to a press released issued by Al Mawrid Foundation on Sunday, the organisation has been researching Islam for the past several years and published several religious books. Al-Mawrid is recognised nationally and internationally. The administration said it had no enemies and would continue to research Islamic studies. Syed Manzoor ul Hassan was shot and injured by unidentified men on August 23 when he stepped out of his office in Model Town. He is currently critical in hospital, as the bullet that him has not been removed from his neck yet.
NEW ORLEANS - City officials have set Tuesday - the storm's first anniversary - as the deadline for homeowners to gut or otherwise clean up their properties. "The city needs to do what it needs to do," councilman Arnie Fielkow said at a meeting Friday. People who don't comply with the deadline after being put on notice face a range of possible penalties, from liens being placed on their property to the seizure or destruction of homes.
