[FoxNews] Omar promised Somali constituents she would protect Somalia's interests inside US system
Elon Musk accused Rep. Ilhan Omar of committing treason over past comments in which she vowed to safeguard Somali interests in the U.S. while assuring her constituents the administration would "do what we ask it to do."
"This sounds like treason," Musk wrote on X, reposting a clip of Omar speaking to Somali constituents in Minnesota in 2024.
The video circulated widely online and was highlighted further by the Tesla and SpaceX CEO's retweet Wednesday.
Omar originally made the remarks in January 2024, when she told supporters in the Twin Cities she would fight to prevent the breakaway Republic of Somaliland from allowing Ethiopia to create a naval base on its coastline.
Minnesota is home to the largest Somali refugee community in the U.S., with most members of that community living in Omar’s district.
"The U.S. government will do what we ask it to do," a translation of Omar's speech said.
"We should have this kind of confidence in ourselves as Somalis. We live in this country. We are taxpayers in this country. This country is one where one of your daughters sits in Congress. While I am in Congress, no one will take Somalia's sea, and the U.S. government won't support others to rob us. Don't stress over it, Minnesotans."

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Wednesday accused Rep. Adelita Grijalva, D-Ariz., of joining a "rioting crowd" and attempting to interfere with agents during a mass arrest operation last week.
The accusation came after Grijalva claimed she was "pushed aside and pepper sprayed" during an immigration raid on Dec. 5 in Tucson, an account ICE flatly rejected.
"During the operation, U.S. Representative Adelita Grijalva joined the rioting crowd and attempted to impede law enforcement officers, then took to social media to slander law enforcement by falsely claiming she was pepper sprayed," ICE said in a statement.
Fox News Digital has reached out to Grijalva’s office for comment.
ICE and its federal partners arrested 46 illegal immigrants during the operation, the result of a "multiyear investigation into a transnational criminal organization involved in labor exploitation, tax violations, and immigration violations," the agency said.
ICE said "over 100 agitators" arrived at one of the locations it searched and "attempted to impede law enforcement operations."
In a post on X on Friday, Grijalva said she was "pushed aside and pepper sprayed" after seeking information from officers during ICE’s operation near the Taco Giro restaurant.
"ICE just conducted a raid by Taco Giro in Tucson — a small mom-and-pop restaurant that has served our community for years," Grijalva wrote. "When I presented myself as a Member of Congress asking for more information, I was pushed aside and pepper sprayed."
Grijalva also called ICE a "lawless agency" that is "operating with no transparency, no accountability, and open disregard for basic due process" in a separate X post.
Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin immediately disputed Grijalva's account, saying she was never directly sprayed but merely in the "vicinity of someone who was."
"If her claims were true, this would be a medical marvel," McLaughlin said. "But they’re not true. She wasn’t pepper sprayed. She was in the vicinity of someone who was pepper sprayed as they were obstructing and assaulting law enforcement."
ICE said two people in the crowd were arrested – one for assaulting a federal law enforcement officer and another for damaging a government vehicle. Two Homeland Security Investigation Special Response Team operators were also injured.

Prove it, Congresswoman — whether audio, video, letter, text, email, or even a calendar notation — show us your receipts to prove you didn’t make it all up.
Took it up through the chain of command did they? Congressional military liaison officers involved no doubt. There should be a paper trail, unless the "many members" claims are total bullshi*.
[ZERO] Congress this week has been threatening to withhold travel funds for Pentagon leadership as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has refused to turn over videos of strikes against suspected drug-smuggling boats off the coast of Latin America, amid the ongoing debate over their 'legality' of the actions.
The demand, which would significantly reduce Hegseth's own travel budget, has been quietly tucked into the final draft of the annual defense policy bill. Congressional leaders called for "unedited video of strikes conducted against designated terrorist organizations in the area of responsibility of the United States Southern Command" to the House and Senate Armed Services Committees.
Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, has expressed new frustration on Wednesday over Hegseth's refusal to release a Sept. 2 video which shows strikes on men who survived the first round of a drone attack.
Of course he did. What is Democratic politics nowadays, but kabuki for the rubes?
"I’m going to stay hopeful for a couple more days. But the idea that he’s going to try to simply drag this out until Congress breaks for the holidays is outrageous, and folks ought to be pretty damn pissed off," said Warner.
Hegseth earlier said the request to release the video is still under review, and that his office is mulling it. While top national security officials have seen it, Warner said further that "There were other members of the administration in that briefing who understood that Congress has an oversight responsibility to see this video."
The so-called Gang of Eight were allowed to view it in a closed session. These are the eight leaders within Congress who are briefed on classified intelligence matters.
However, there are signs that Congressional leaders could back down, as CNN newly reports on Wednesday:
House Armed Services Chairman Mike Rogers is prepared to end his panel’s investigation into the September double-tap strike on an alleged drug boat in the Caribbean, a committee aide tells CNN.
Rogers received a classified briefing last week to view the video footage and is now pushing for the rest of his panel to be able to see the video.
That’s the end of it. The committee chair — from the majority party — has absolute power over the agenda. Senator Warner, as a Democrat, has no power here whatsoever.
The committee aide said, "The video and classified briefings from the Pentagon were sufficient to convince him this was a legal action. But he’s also been clear that we need a classified briefing where the rest of HASC’s members can see the video, and we expect that to happen next week."

Democrats have been caught lying, hoaxing and horrendously exaggerating so many times I've gotten to the point where I just assume the "double-tap" boat strike was perfectly legal and Democrats, as usual, are lying again.
