[Hiraan] Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has killed at least 12 al-Shabaab militants in the Jambaluul area, which falls under the Afgooye district of the Lower Shabelle region.
A press release issued by NISA on Wednesday said that the operation resulted in the killing of 12 al-Shabaab fighters, including a senior leader of the group.
The raid targeted hideouts and locations where the militants were preparing explosives, leading to a direct confrontation between the two sides.
The face-to-face fighting between NISA forces and al-Shabaab also resulted in injuries to civilians and two NISA soldiers, after the group fired mortars into civilian areas.
“The Somali government deeply regrets the harm suffered by civilians in the deadly attack by the Khawarij, and is intensifying operations to eradicate the terrorist threat to lives, property, and the Somali state,” the NISA statement said.
Not that they care, but it’s nice that they copy the West in saying so.
NISA added that security forces will continue to intensify operations to prevent al-Shabaab from harming civilians.

Reports from the Afgooye district indicate that heavy shelling struck the village of Jambaluul overnight, resulting in significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction. The attack, allegedly carried out by forces trained by the U.S.-based Alpha Group, began around 11:00 p.m. and continued until approximately 5:30 a.m.
According to local sources, 30 civilians were killed in the Jambaluul area, including 11 children, and more than 50 others were injured.
In Dhajalaq village, two people were confirmed dead, while 28 fatalities were reported in Jambaluul itself.
Residents say the bombardment caused extensive damage to homes, with numerous structures completely destroyed. One local school in Jambaluul was reportedly leveled during the attack.
Authorities and community members warn that the death toll may rise as rescue efforts continue and more information becomes available.

Attorney General Pam Bondi released video footage Wednesday of U.S. forces seizing a Venezuelan crude oil tanker, a bold move last ordered more than a decade ago.
Video footage showed FBI and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents, along with U.S. Coast Guard members, with support from the Department of War, executing a precise seizure of the tanker, which was being used to move sanctioned oil from Venezuela and Iran.
Armed personnel in tactical gear rappelled from a helicopter above the vessel off the Venezuelan coast Wednesday, landing on the deck of the ship and entering with weapons drawn.
"For multiple years, the oil tanker has been sanctioned by the United States due to its involvement in an illicit oil shipping network supporting foreign terrorist organizations," Bondi wrote in a statement on X.
"This seizure, completed off the coast of Venezuela, was conducted safely and securely—and our investigation alongside the Department of Homeland Security to prevent the transport of sanctioned oil continues."
FBI Director Kash Patel said in an X post the administration’s "efforts to crush FTO’s" and cut off their resources will "continue day and night."

[BBC] At least 34 people have died and dozens more are injured after air strikes from Myanmar's military hit a hospital in the country's west on Wednesday night, according to ground sources. Similar to Gaza Health Officials?
The hospital is located in Mrauk-U town in Rakhine state, an area controlled by the Arakan Army - one of the strongest ethnic armies fighting the country's military regime.
Thousands have died and millions have been displaced since the military seized power in a coup in 2021 and triggered a civil war.
In recent months, the military has intensified air strikes to take back territory from ethnic armies. It has also deployed paragliders to drop bombs on its enemies.
The Myanmar military has not commented on the strikes, which come as the country prepares to vote later this month in its first election since the coup.
However, pro-military accounts on Telegram claim the strikes this week were not aimed at civilians.
Khaing Thukha, a spokesperson for the Arakan Army, told the BBC that most of the casualties were patients at the hospital.
"This is the latest vicious attack by the terrorist military targeting civilian places," he said, adding that the military "must take responsibility" for bombing civilians.

The junta has been locked in a years-long bloody conflict with ethnic militias, at one point losing control of more than half the country.

The Israel Defense Forces countered that its gunfire was not aimed at the convoy, but was a warning to a suspect approaching troops stationed inside southern Lebanon.
"One ten-round burst of machine-gun fire was fired above the convoy, and four further ten-round bursts were fired nearby," UNIFIL said in its statement.
The observer force said it "asked the IDF to stop firing through UNIFIL’s liaison channels," adding that nobody was injured in the incident.
UNIFIL claimed that the IDF was "informed of the location and timing of the patrol in advance, following usual practice for patrols in sensitive areas near the Blue Line."
It said that attacks on or near its observers "are serious violations of Security Council Resolution 1701."
