IN THE MAIL: Election 2008: A Voters Guide, by Franklin Foer and the editors of The New Republic. I haven't actually read it, but according to reliable pseudonymous sources it has Hillary mocking a cripple, and Obama driving around New Hampshire with a baby skull on his head, while Bill Richardson runs over dogs in the gubernatorial limo. Or something like that . . . .
Ouch!

And if you didn't know -
Stung by criticism over his latest speeding incident in Albuquerque, Gov. Bill Richardson said Thursday that he intends to slow down.
While carefully not apologizing for breaking speed limits, the governor said he has instructed his state police drivers to obey posted limits except under "exceptional circumstances."

Life is stranger than fiction. And out here they're jackrabbits, not dogs. They're just a big as the dogs. The roadkill just looks the same to Easterners.
PRINCETON, NJ -- Republicans are significantly more likely than Democrats or independents to rate their mental health as excellent, according to data from the last four November Gallup Health and Healthcare polls. Fifty-eight percent of Republicans report having excellent mental health, compared to 43% of independents and 38% of Democrats. This relationship between party identification and reports of excellent mental health persists even within categories of income, age, gender, church attendance, and education...
DNC Chairman Howard Dean responded saying "AAAAAAHHHHHHYYYYYY!!!"

When you can tie 80 to 90% of your life to principles and not have to rationalize diametrically opposed concepts for every occasion, good mental health becomes easier. Or to paraphrase Mark Twain; If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.*
* Just sit back and watch as the Donks rewrite history on the 'surge'.

I'm an independent and, since I don't expect the Evil Cheney to personally show up at my house with a grenade launcher to kill my dog, I guess I'm okay...
ummm, ok, I guess you're right. Cattle have a societal utility. Progressives? Not so much

Bush Derangement Syndrome is definitely a mental condition, and a large percentage of Donks adhere to it religiously. That alone tips the scales in the Repuglycon's direction. This Independent also has a bit of sanity left - just enough to know how and why I'm insane (actually, it was a pre-condition to my employment in the Air Force...).

You wouldn't say it if you were a chimpanzee anxious to expand into a sapient species ecological niche.
I don't think things can get more screwed up with airport security.
This isn't about how investigators were able to smuggle liquid explosives and detonators past TSA screeners earlier this year.
It's about the atrocious treatment endured by some Fort Lewis soldiers who were escorting the remains of a colleague home to Virginia earlier this month.
Brief background: On the tarmac, an honor guard had been formed by Port of Seattle Police, airport fire and rescue and military personnel as the soldier's body was placed on the plane.
A police officer then took the escort soldiers up to security.
The TSA screener checked everyone's ID, including the police officer, and then had the soldiers go through the metal detectors.
Their combat ribbons and medals set off the alarms.
So what does the TSA screener do?
He has the soldiers strip off their uniforms - in front of everyone - down to their tee shirts, pants and socks.
Will someone please tell me what the hell is wrong with these people?
How does some inept, insensitive idiot with the IQ of room temperature even get a TSA job?

Sadly, crosspatch, you're right. I would rather have seen the attendant military personnel be given pre-clearance so as to avoid any such indignity.

It proves that this types of jobs can be done by bots programmed to follow scripted instructions. You don't need the human capacity to 'think' or apply 'judgment'. Bots do not pull a pension or hire lawyers to sue.

Unless procedures have changed, those soldiers were pre-screened. This is all about the attitude of the idiotarians in Olympia and the other WA cities near the post. It's not the first time soldiers have been hassled by the left wing locals there.

It's about the stupidity of the entire TSA reign of terror. I believe the passengers of Flight 93 in one hour did more to prevent terrorism in the air than all the TSA employees have in the last 6 years. Do you really feel safer as a result of this charade?
If Americans were willing to tolerate the inconvenience of airline flight in their automobile trips, we could probably save 20,000 lives a year. But instead we provide jobs for the mentally deficient to harass the innocent for no benefit whatsoever.

they should be fired, but I suspect that there are rules somewhere that prevent it. They should at the very least get their picture spread across the internet so that we can name and shame them.

Do soldiers still take their small arms on civilian charters?

Why couldn't the soldiers just remove their jackets (and medals), run them through the x-ray machine, and pass through security? Why did they have to strip down to their shorts and socks? Why not just scan them with the wand they use whenever someone trips the metal detector?

So, an Islamist regime that claims it cannot stop genocide in its national territory and where not one person has been tried for the crimes of Darfur, is able to pounce on this heinous offense involving a teddy bear and a lack of cultural awareness. Not only pounce, but try and sentence the perpetrator in less than 48 hours. Justice can be swift when the government decides to move.

Admittedly, naming that Teddy bear Mohamed was fantastically offensive and it is easy to see how it could push people to violence. I am expecting Teddy bears to riot in the streets, burn muslim prayer houses and demand compensation for this gruesome insult to the memory of Teddy Roosevelt.

"What is depressing is that people like Leiken and others who continually advocate for engagement with the international Brotherhood refuse to look at the most powerful evidence in hand-the actual behavior of the Ikhwan when given true power. "
These are the same sorts of people that insist the Communism is perfect it's just that it hasn't been done right. And, that it's all our fault for not understanding them.
The BBC's Jon Leyne can't restrain himself from rushing to praise Iran over one TV series. The writer and director made this typical anti-Semitic statement, equating Zionism with Nazism: "We sympathise just as much with those innocent Jewish victims of the Nazis, as much as we do with the Palestinian victims of Zionism."
Leyne is evidently too dim, or himself too anti-Israel, to understand the gross insult implied in the comparison of Zionists to the barbarians who murdered a third of the Jews during the Holocaust.
Leyne goes on to pompously pontificate: "Most Iranians, even those taking part in the most ardent anti-Zionist demonstrations, would be quite shocked at any accusation that they are anti-Semitic."
How the hell does he know that? He's canvassed the opinions of most Iranians? Perhaps Leyne himself feels that is not anti-Semitic to rant and rave against Zionism - which is simply the movement behind the establishment and maintenance of the Jewish state of Israel. If so, perhaps he can bring us some evidence, rather than vague generalities, to support that view.
This reminds me of another ignorant, biased statement from Leyne as he used the Fatah-Hamas bloodshed in Gaza to indulge in standard anti-Israel BBC propaganda: "Many Israelis are rubbing their hands in glee, though the anarchy on its border may not be in Israel's best interest."
Someone at the BBC needs to prevent propagandist hacks like Leyne from making statements that cannot be verified. He should be obliged to restrict his bias to his fellow-bigots over drinks at the BBC bar, not inflict it on the general public.

Aren't peoples' heads supposed to explode when they make transparently contradictory statements like this? If not, some way needs to be arranged.
A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
