The suspect has been arrested, and both injured players are in stable condition after being taken to UAB hospital. The school has not released the names of any of the players involved.
UAB's game against USF began as scheduled at 3 p.m. ET.
A UAB official said an investigation is ongoing.
"UAB's top priority remains the safety and well-being of all of our students," the school said in a statement.

[FOXNEWS] Two federal inmates previously on death row — one a crooked New Orleans cop, the other behind a multi-state killing spree — have been transferred to a notorious "supermax" prison in Colorado, the Justice Department told Fox News Digital.
News of their transfers comes as U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi looks to crack down on the previous administration's sweeping clemency actions, especially those against violent crime.
The former death row inmates were transferred Thursday to the U.S. Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility in Florence, Colorado, also known as "ADX," Justice Department officials confirmed.
They are among the 37 death row inmates whose sentences former President Joe Biden commuted shortly before leaving office last December. The news prompted criticism and complaints that the record clemency and commutation actions were done as a political "Hail Mary" and without proper vetting.
Eight death row inmates have already been transferred to ADX, the Justice Department told Fox News Digital, bringing to 10 the number of death row inmates that have been transferred to the prison since mid-September.
More are expected soon. All 37 death row inmates commuted by Biden are expected to be moved to the prison by "early next year," the Justice Department told Fox News Digital.
The effort comes as Bondi and the Trump administration have sought to reverse some of the Biden administration's efforts on criminal justice reform, with an emphasis on cracking down on violent crime.
Though sentence commutations cannot be fully reversed, Justice Department officials told Fox News Digital, Bondi has prioritized ways to penalize these individuals in coordination with directives from Trump and to ensure that the "conditions of confinement" are "consistent with the security risks those inmates present because of their egregious crimes, criminal histories and all other relevant considerations," according to an earlier DOJ memo.
"Two more monsters who plotted and violently murdered innocent people will spend the rest of their lives in our country's most severe federal prison," Attorney General Pam Bondi told Fox News Digital in a statement.

Two Texas men have been charged in an alleged plot to invade a Haitian island, kill its male residents and enslave the women and children as their "sex slaves," federal prosecutors announced Thursday.
Gavin Rivers Weisenburg, 21, of Allen, and Tanner Christopher Thomas, 20, of Argyle, were indicted on charges of conspiracy to murder, maim or kidnap in a foreign country and production of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Texas.
"Weisenburg and Thomas intended to murder all of the men on the island so that they could then turn all of the women and children into their sex slaves," federal prosecutors allege.
What, all?? One suspects they have no idea how big the population is, among other crucial bits of information.
Between August 2024 and July 2025, Weisenburg and Thomas allegedly planned to take over Gonave Island "to carry out their rape fantasies," court documents state.
They intended to buy a sailboat, guns and ammunition and recruit members from Washington, D.C.’s homeless community to "serve as a mercenary force as they invaded Gonave Island and staged a coup d'état," prosecutors said.
Oh dear. And one of them legally an adult, too.
Authorities allege the pair took steps to prepare for the invasion, including learning Haitian Creole, attempting to recruit others and enrolling in schools to gain skills that would help them carry out the invasion.
Thomas even joined the U.S. Air Force to receive relevant military training, according to prosecutors.
And did they teach him the necessary skills?
In addition to the alleged invasion plan, both men are accused of producing child pornography.
Gonave Island, located in the Gulf of Gonave, has a population of roughly 100,000, according to La Gonave Haiti Partners.
Still, only roughly half of them would be males slated for killin’. On the other hand, I’m trying to imagine how a bunch of homeless guys would take to the military discipline necessary to mow down thousands at a time.
If convicted, Weisenburg and Thomas each face up to life in federal prison for the conspiracy charge. The child pornography charge carries between 15 and 30 years in federal prison.

However much money they're losing, they deserve to lost twice that much.
Which gives weight to a theory of mine. The money that CNN, CNBC, CBS, ABC, etc "lose" from their newscasts isn't really a "loss".
Stick with me. What if all of those entities were merely parts of the "marketing department" of a larger leftist/world rule entity?
Remember: Nobody expects a "marketing department" to make a profit. They are an *expense* They are a known cost. They exist because the LARGER entity is willing to spend the money to fund them for a LARGER goal.
That's how I view the mainstream market. They *know* they don't make any money. And they don't care. Their funding mechanism doesn't care either. They say and do what they do because they are merely an EXPENSE for the cause.
