Matthews goes off on Obama's inability to compromise:
What bothered me about him [today] he keeps talking about common ground. Damn it, there's very little common ground between left and right, but what there is is compromise. You do something for me on minimum wage, I'll do something for you in corporate tax reform. You give me something on corporate tax reform and I'll get rid of some of the loopholes or I'll do something on trade for you. He never talks about trading and compromising, he always talks about common ground. Well, damn it, you can not run a government on common ground.
He misses the main point of politics which is to be a politician and to trade. Okay, you want this? You want to take care of people who have been here illegally for 20, 30 years? Here's what I want. No more illegal hiring, and that's all in the Senate bill. But he won't sell the compromise. There's something in this guy that just plays to his constituency and acts like there is no other room out there. And that's going to be a collision at the end of this year like you have never seen. I do believe it will be like waving a red flag in front of the bull. I think Mitch McConnell is headed for a fight with the president.

Of course the irony here is that Chrissie gets the tingle and can't figure out the connection between blind submission to "the one" and the arrogant narcissism he critiques here.
Anyone with half a brain knew 6 years ago what Zero was like. You asked for it Chrissie, you got it.

Obama doenst compromise. Because throughout his entire likfe if little Barry didn't get what he wanted, all he had to do was stomp his feet and throw a tantrum, and his betters would give him what he wanted.
College? Sure, affirmative action and (possibly) register you as a foreign student to get more assistance and slack in class.
Professorship? Sure, we'll let you be the editor, just don't write anything.
Illinois political job? Sure, work with these former terrorists - they will show you how to organize mobs and rig votes.
Election? Sure, we'll get you in the Illinois legislature by pushing out someone to clear the way. Just don't do anything controversial - vote "present" to stay away from hard decisions.
US Senate? No problem, we'll leak all kinds of dirt on your opponent from sealed court records from his divorce with a famous actress.
Presidency? Press will do what we tell them to, never call you out, and on top of that they will savage the Republicans for you, so you can run a "positive" campaign, leave all the nasty negatives to us. Run on vapor, "Hope and Change". Dont do anything in office other than stick to progressive things.
[WashFreeBeacon] Lawyers for the B.O. regime compared Israel's control of Jerusalem to Russian claims over the Ukrainian territory of Crimea during oral arguments this week before the Supreme Court in a case concerning the rights of U.S. citizens to list Jerusalem as part of Israel on their passports.
U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, who is rumored to be in the running to replace outgoing Attorney General Eric Inaction Jackson Holder ... aka Mister Fast and Furious... , drew the comparison on Monday while he attempted to convince the Supreme Court that Jerusalem is not officially part of Israel.

Hey, maybe they could compromise and put "Jerusalem, somewhere in the vicinity of Israel" as the kid's place of birth. Or even "Jerusalem, nudge, nudge, wink wink".
As for "This case manages to combine two of the things that this administration dislikes the most: Congress and Israel", I'd say Mr. White is gunning for Snark of the Day.

Last time I looked at a map Jerusalem was in Israel. That seems to be a pretty good claim to it.

The New City was part of the country from the beginning, Israel's capitol. The Old City was supposed to be international, but Jordan annexed it in 1948. Then Israel annexed it after the Six Day War in 1967, while they most decidedly did not annex the West Bank or the Gaza Strip. I don't recall whether they annexed the conquered swathe of the Sinai, but they willingly enough traded that for peace with Egypt later.

So, the opinion of a appointee lawyer in Washington is definitive in a foreign policy question about someone else's territory, with the US not being a party to the matter. Whereas it's not in the case of property seized from US citizens by a foreign government (i.e. Cuba, Venezuela, etc.)
Lawfare is wonderful; it's when they want it both ways at the same time that it's confusing.

Isn't possession 9/10ths of the law?
Besides if Israel, who took Jerusalem in a war, doesn't have claim, then that means the Paleos don't have claim as it was handed over by the British who took it in a war. Also then the Ottomans had no claim to it, as they took it in a war. Or the Crusaders. Or the Arabs. Or the Romans.
So by that logic whoever founded the city first has claim to it. I'll wait for them to step up and file to take ownership.

Just an extension to the justification of the executive order which will eliminate that nasty southern border of the country formerly known as the United States.
[Washington Post] Republican businessman Larry Hogan pulled off a stunning upset in heavily Democratic Maryland on Tuesday, winning the governor's race against Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown by relentlessly promising to roll back tax increases and chart a new direction for the state. Drudge referred to Brown as "Obama Mini-me."
Shortly after midnight, Brown conceded a race that he lost despite the strong support of the state's Democratic establishment and visits to Maryland in the closing weeks of the campaign by President B.O., first lady Michelle Obama, former President Bill Clinton ...former Democratic president of the U.S. Bill was the second U.S. president to be impeached, the first to deny that oral sex was sex, the first to have difficulty with the definition of is... and Hillary Rodham Clinton ... sometimes described as the Smartest Woman in the World and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another John Jay ... . Brown was the nonentity lieutenant governor to Martin "One-man Economic Wrecking Crew" O'Malley, a former Baltimore mayor whose main accomplishment was to not be as bad as his predecessor. He has to ego to believe he's a contendah for president in '16.
Hogan's victory -- a repudiation of the eight-year tenure of Gov. Martin O'Malley ...Democratic governor of Maryland and aspiring presidential candidate, known locally as The One-Man Economic Wrecking Crew. O'Malley was elected to his second term driven by union support and near-Stalinesque vote margins in Baltimore city (82%) and Prince George's County (88%)... (D) -- means that Annapolis will return to divided government for the first time since 2006. It remains to be seen how much Hogan and his running mate, Lt. Gov.-elect Boyd Rutherford, will be able to accomplish with a Democratic-controlled legislature. Their victory sent a strong message that Marylanders had grown weary of the tax increases enacted under O'Malley, which Hogan harped on throughout the campaign.
"Wow, what a historic night in Maryland," Hogan said to a screaming crowd at his victory party in Annapolis. "They said it couldn't be done here in Maryland. But together, we did it."
Hogan said he received "a very gracious call" from Brown, and he asked his supporters to give a round of applause to the lieutenant governor and to O'Malley. Instead, they chanted, "Larry! Larry! Larry!" Hogan also said he received a phone call from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), who visited Maryland four times on his behalf.

'Congress will pass some bills I cannot sign,' the president warned
He has only vetoed two minor bills since his inauguration in 2009
And 'I'll take some actions that some in Congress will not like,' Obama added, referring to threatened executive orders including a move on immigration
President sounded more like a winner than a loser despite his policies being repudiated on a national scale
Never articulated a single policy where he would shift his position to align with GOP majorities in both halves of Congress
"There is no Dana, only Zool! There is no Cause, only Effect!"

Have him veto everything. Send each bill every week for him to re-veto. See who gets tired of it and blamed first.
As per FREEREPUBLIC + HOTAIR, the Bammer would like to remind the GOP-Right + new Senate that they have no clear or decisive "Mandate" as the majority of US Voters did NOT elect them this past Tuesday.

You have material; for impechament when opposing it will egt the other side to be thrashed in next elections. If tring it leads you to lose next presidential and legislative elections then you don't have material.
In othert words;, the problem is the American people who should be asking nfor Obama's head instead of watcing football and giving him over 40% approval.
#7
JFM you have it correct. The problem is that, while the grounds and evidence are there they cannot be explained to the majority or large minority of Americans due to the complexity of the issues.
Political philosophy and constitutional law are not taught in any way shape or form to allow the people to follow the argument. All you have to do is look at the video on college students that don't know who fought the civil war, who won or what it was about.

Years ago, my daddy told me "when betting between malice or stupidity, bet on stupidity every time." When you're dealing with malice and stupidity, discussion is pointless.
The only way Obama can play to the crowd now is as a martyr. Incompetence has pretty much closed off all other avenues.
So let him burn himself.

AlanC. And the other problem is the chatteringf classes trying to whitewash Obama, telling Amercians dissent is raaaaaaaacism and people not telling them to get st..d. That is how Nixon is worse than Attila and Obama still has over 40% approval despire cleaning his feet on the Constitution, using IRS on political enemies like in your average South American dictaorshoip and not having missed any opportunity to help Islamism.

I oppose any attempt to impeach Obama, no matter how much he deserves it:
1. It won't work - there aren't enough votes to remove him from office.
2. We would end up with Slow Joe as president if Obama were convicted.
3. It would just make Obama a martyr.

Impeachment is tempting. As each year goes by, it becomes more and more tempting. Obama has done great damage to the country. He has trampled the Constitution. Most likely, he has committed high crimes and misdemeanors that are impeachable but the Pubs don't have the votes in the Senate to convict him. There are better things to do such as restore the country.
They need to address jobs, Obamacare, close the border, restore free markets and create a business climate in the country, address the myriad of crazy, debilitating regulations and taxes that are strangling business and build defense back up to mention a few.
I don't think the Congress can do this without Pub leadership in the Presidency. They can develop and pass legislation even though Obama will veto much of it. As said, send it back again and again. Congress also has a great deal of power in their control of the purse.

With Reid out of the way, the omnibus funding bill process ends. Individual department authorization comes back into play. If they have the will to do it. IF you do this, we won't fund that. IF you want this, you have to sign that.
[NATIONALREVIEW] MSNBC host Chris My Thigh is Tingling! Matthews ... the late Tip O'Neill's former gopher who has magazines with centerfolds of Barack Obama I am not a dictator!... in his bathroom... expressed dismay over President B.O.'s post-election presser on Wednesday, calling him entirely deaf to the millions of Americans who voted against his plan to grant executive amnesty for as many as 6 million undocumented Democrats.
"The people, if you look at the polling, their problem is illegal immigration," he said. "He says, 'I'm going to fix the problem.' He doesn't mean he's gonna stop illegal immigration. He's not going to do anything to stop illegal hiring, which is the magnet for illegal immigration, really. He's going to basically say, 'I'm going to deal with them by giving them green cards.'"
"What bothered me about him tonight -- he keeps talking about common ground," Matthews said. "Damnit, there's very little common ground between left and right! But what there is, is compromise."
"There's something in this guy that just plays to his constituency, and acts like there's no other world out there," the MSNBC host lamented. "And that's going to be a collision at the end of this year like you've never seen. I do believe it's will be waving a red flag in front of the bull. I think Mitch McConnell's headed for a fight with the president."

And that has been the donk playbook since '08. Now there are just not enough donks in congress for teh 0ne to hide behind.

Apparently Mathews must need a little depression to think clearly. I laughed yesterday listening to obama when he said the GOP and he have common ground with minimum wage. Really? Mathews has a point.

I think Chris knows that there are two different worlds, but understands that the one he and Obama inhabit can't survive a civil war with the other if push comes to shove. There will be no victors, just survivors, of which most will be in the other world.

Got to agree with Rush Limbaugh. The message of the mid-terms was clear: "Stop Obama's agenda," he and it is destroying the country. Compromise was not part of any message that I have heard anywhere. The Pub victory was more overwhelming than in 2010.

The agenda for the next 2 years should be restoring Republican brand recognition by putting through good laws and taking credit for them and making Obama and Democrats the party of no if they veto.
[Washington Post] Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W. Va.) did not mince words on Wednesday when asked to describe the historic losses by congressional Democrats.
"This is a real ass-whuppin," he said.
Manchin is a moderate first-term senator who has been openly flirting with going home to run again for West Virginia governor in 2016 instead of running for reelection. In a brief interview with The Washington Post, he unloaded on his party's leader, saying he's deeply frustrated with President B.O. and Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) for his stewardship of the Senate in recent years. He openly suggested he might not support Reid to serve as Democratic leader again next year.
"Harry, let us vote, let's do something. It's easier for me to go home and explain what I voted for and against than to explain why I don't vote at all," Manchin said.
Using a sports metaphor, Manchin said Senate Democrats have been acting in recent years like the West Virginia University Mountaineers football team did last Saturday: "We had the lead the whole entire game up until the middle of the 4th quarter and they decided to sit on the ball. And guess what? We got beat 31 to 30."
"This is a rough and tumble sport and you know what? Every member of Congress ‐ 535 ‐ has earned the right to make a complete fool of themselves if they want to," he added. "We just have to make sure that the American public can see who wants to get something done, who wants to be an obstructionist and who wants to be a fool."

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
