[Jpost] Mohammad el Shami had been held by the Houthi militant group since June 6, 2024, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Tuerk said in a statement.
A Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... i staff member of the UN Human Rights Office has died in Iran's Houthi sock puppets ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him... custody after being arbitrarily detained for more than two years, the UN human rights When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much... chief said on Saturday, calling for an independent investigation and the release of other detained personnel.
Mohammad el Shami had been held by the Houthi bully boy group since June 6, 2024, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Tuerk said in a statement.
His family said they had been informed of his death only recently, more than a month after it occurred, and had received no explanation of the cause or circumstances, Tuerk said.
Tuerk called for a prompt, independent and thorough investigation, and demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all other UN personnel held by the Houthis, including seven colleagues from his office, as well as humanitarian workers and civil society members.
Yemen's prime minister condemned the death, held the Houthis fully responsible and called for those responsible to be held accountable. He said more than 70 UN employees and dozens of humanitarian workers remained detained.
HOUTHIS ALLEGE DETAINIES PART OF US-ISRAELI SPY NETWORK
There was no immediate comment from the Houthis. The group has said those detained were part of a spy network working for the United States and Israel. The group has also accused humanitarian organizations of using their work as cover for intelligence activities, without providing evidence.
The Houthis seized the capital Sanaa in 2014, prompting a Saudi-led military intervention in 2015 in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government. The conflict has since divided the country, with the Houthis holding Sanaa and much of the north and northwest, while government-aligned forces control much of the south and east.
[NYPost] Fierce protests erupted across Europe Saturday evening as the most violent rioters in France threw Molotov cocktails at military police, broke into homes and set US and Israeli flags on fire.
The clashes in Paris, which started at Porte de Bagnolet and drew at least 70,000 people, exploded after the march reached its end point at Porte de Charenton, with police attempting to disperse the crowd with tear gas, water cannons and mortar fire – and protesters responding by tossing projectiles at them.
An incendiary device thrown at police set an officer’s leg on fire and was captured in startling images – before it was extinguished.
“Our unit was attacked violently by several rioters in a very sudden way,” the unnamed officer said in a phone call with French channel LCI.
“The intensity was extraordinary, there wasn’t any kind of gradual buildup to the violence … it degenerated.”
Several cops were injured by the flames and had to back away from their position, with some hiding behind the gates of a school, where they evacuated students who had barricaded themselves inside.
“These criminals want to see the blood of police officers spilled, and they’re relentless about it,” slammed right-wing politician Matthieu Valet, a French member of the European Parliament, on X.
“Behind every uniform, there’s a life, a family. How many tragedies will it take for this to stop?”
Police blamed “a hard core of several hundred rioters” at the rear of the march, who attacked officers with projectiles, including a Molotov cocktail, according to Le Monde.
“Unacceptable violence is being committed against law enforcement,” the National Gendarmerie wrote on X.
A Tesla car was set ablaze and protesters — some dressed as clowns and witches for the Halloween march — shined lasers to try to blind police.
The protest, which police had tried to keep away from the city center, spread to the Place de la Bastille, with police there charging at demonstrators, chasing them on foot as tear gas was deployed and more fires began to rage.
Hundreds marched to the historic square, despite the ban on protesting there. Police began beating several protesters with batons, with one’s back reportedly bleeding.
In Marseilles, where some 10,000 showed up, rioters broke into homes, surveillance cameras were set on fire and projectiles were thrown at police.
About a dozen demonstrators are seen entering an apartment building and rushing up the staircase in footage shared on social media.
In Lyon, militants burned an American and Israeli flag on the roof tram shelter.
Three rioters, dressed in all black and wearing goggles and face coverings, can be seen stomping on the flags before starting a fire, as the raucous crowd applauds and chants “Israel, assassins.”
And in Bordeaux where 11,000 came out, a pinata of French President Emmanuel Macron with a pointy nose and mouth full of cash was savagely attacked by a protester dressed in black and wearing a boar facemask, as the crowd cheered and chanted “Macron, resignation.”
It rained fake banknotes at Place de la Victoire after the piñata was crushed by the demonstrators marching against the rising cost of living, according to social media video shared by newspaper Le Figaro.
An estimated 320,000 protested across France, according to the Interior Ministry, with police making 511 arrests nationwide so far and 70,000 police deployed. The French government blamed far-left extremist groups for attacks on law enforcement, pointing to an “extraordinary” level of violence, and described throwing a Molotov cocktail at a riot police officer in Paris as an “attempted murder.” “We are fully prepared for those looking for confrontation,” Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez threatened.
Outside of France, Germany also erupted into clashes with police as the protests spread elsewhere in Europe.
In Frankfurt, protesters pelted police with stones and firecrackers, injuring several officers, while in Hamburg, they set barricades alight. And a march in Cologne was shut down after stone throwing and fireworks.
In Albania, masked assailants hurled Molotov cocktails and stones at police in Tirana, set trash bins ablaze and used slingshots to fire rocks, as police responded with water cannons.
Update 1810: Clashes between rioters and police have started to break out in Paris, including on the Rue des Meuniers, where police came under fire from protesters hurling stones and chanting "ACAB" (All Cops Are Bastards). The police in turn fired tear gas into the mob in an attempt to disperse the violent crowd, which had also begun setting fires and damaging street advertisements, Le Figaro reported.
The original story continues as follows...
The Paris Police prefecture estimated that between 100,000 and 150,000 demonstrators would take part in the march from Porte de Bagnolet and Porte de Charenton in the French capital on Saturday.
At the helm of the protest was LFI leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the 75-year-old radical socialist who has ridden the wave of the past month of rioting in France to leapfrog into second place in the race to replace President Emmanuel Macron next spring, trailing only anti-mass-migration stalwart Marine Le Pen.
[Reuters] Hooded rioters looted stores in Frankfurt late on Saturday after tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets across Germany's biggest cities to demand better education and lower living costs.
The protests followed a wave of Gen Z-led demonstrations across Europe this year. In Serbia, student-led activism helped unseat the country's longtime leader at the ballot box, while protests in France have descended into rioting and looting.

The German protests organised by the campaign group "Gen Z regelt" — "Gen Z takes charge" in German — took place in 34 cities including Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. The group says it opposes compulsory military service and wants greater investment in education as many young Germans struggle with rising costs.
In Frankfurt, Germany's financial hub, at least two stores were looted as protests turned violent, with several more damaged and police trying to get the situation under control, according to a Reuters witness.
"Violent disturbances are continuing," Frankfurt police said on X. "In the city centre, windows have been smashed at several shops. Molotov cocktails are also being thrown at the emergency services. We urge all bystanders to avoid the city centre or to leave the area."
Official numbers on Saturday afternoon suggested turnout was below the 182,000 participants that organisers initially expected. Police in Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin reported as many as 18,000 protesters, half the roughly 36,000 on the organisers' website.
German authorities said Saturday's demonstrations, which coincide with Halloween festivities, had been largely peaceful, but warned of attempts by extremist groups to exploit the movement.
In Hamburg, some barricades had been set on fire.
"We are here today to fight for peace and freedom, rather than for war and coercion," Gen Z regelt spokesperson Lina Friedrich said in Berlin on Saturday.
"What matters most to us is better support for the health and education systems. We are against compulsory military service and we are in favour of a fairer distribution of the burden."
LUXURY SHOPS BOARD UP WINDOWS
Parts of Germany's far-left extremist scene and some groups linked to foreign extremist movements have joined efforts to mobilise support, according to the federal interior ministry.
"We all have those images from France in our minds — looting, burning houses, burning police vehicles, and attacks on police officers," said Roman Poseck, interior minister for the state of Hesse, whose capital is Germany's financial hub, Frankfurt.
"France must not be held up as a model in this regard."
Some businesses across German cities boarded up windows and planned early closures ahead of the demonstrations due to concerns over possible unrest, including along Berlin's luxury Kurfuerstendamm shopping boulevard.
Organisers have focused on what they see as the growing pressure on younger generations in Europe's largest economy.
"The government has offered no response to our concerns other than to continue making cuts and piling further burdens upon us," said Steve, an 18-year-old due to speak at a rally in Munich, addressing Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
"We will continue to exercise our fundamental right to assemble until you stop ignoring us."
Germany has struggled to revive economic growth. The country also faces growing pressure on pensions and public services as baby boomers retire and the working-age population shrinks.
Questions have been raised about who is driving the campaign and whether it is genuinely youth-led, given the broad mix of political and civil society groups involved.
Of course it is not — it’s being organized by paid international Antifa in concert with protests across Western Europe with the aid of Moslem colonist shock troops. This has been reported.
Germany's national school student umbrella organisation, BSK, has distanced itself from the initiative and plans to hold a separate day of protest on November 20.
Sean Baker, a student at the Technical University of Berlin, said he would join the protests on Saturday to call attention to the poor state of buildings on campus.
"When you go inside and enter the rooms, it looks like an abandoned building," he told Reuters. "Yet this is where we're expected to study on a regular basis."

[Jpost] Ammaad Akhtar, 34, was arrested after meeting with an undercover FBI agent he believed to be affiliated with ISIS and giving the agent $400 cash, two loaded guns, and six magazines of ammunition.
A Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, man pleaded guilty on Friday to attempting to provide material support to a designated terrorist organization after pledging allegiance to the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... terrorist organization (ISIS) and plotting to kill a man he suspected to be an IDF soldier.
According to a criminal complaint against 34-year-old Ammaad Akhtar,
…a hazardous substances engineer at the California EPA. Rantburger Jack Salami reported that there were a great many jihad sympathizers working for the State of California, who freely used state office equipment to organize protests…
between February 2025 and June 2025 Akhtar attempted to provide funds, weapons, and equipment to ISIS.
Starting in February 2025, Akhtar began communicating with what he believed to be a member of ISIS and discussed a desire to travel overseas to fight with ISIS, ownership of multiple firearms, plans to attack a man he believed to be an IDF soldier, and a plan to commit a terrorist attack using homemade explosives.
Akhtar was actually communicating with an FBI Controlled Persona, which is a fake identity created and maintained by FBI agents for investigative purposes.
AKHTAR GLORIFIED VIOLENT JIHAD, PRAYED TO DESTROY INFIDELS
Throughout Akhtar’s months-long communications with the persona, he repeatedly glorified jihad, expressed admiration for ISIS terrorists, stated that he wished to join the terrorist group, and said that he prayed to find ways to destroy those who do not believe in Islam.
"A lot of Moslems in America are too scared to talk about jihad," Akhtar told the persona on March 13, 2025. "I don’t like being around them too much because they don’t ever want to form a group to go and beat up the kafir (infidels)."
Akhtar also owned three firearms and a knife, which he sent pictures of to the persona. He told the persona that he regularly carried the knife and a gun on his person so he could be ready in case he ever engaged in "conflict" with a non-believer.
In April, 2025, Akhtar began discussing plans to attack a Jewish man he believed to be an IDF soldier.
On April 3, he told the persona that he had driven by a synagogue and noticed a man he had previously seen around the synagogue on Saturdays.
Akhtar stated that he followed the man to find out where the man lives and asked the persona what he could do to "handle" the Jewish man once he located the home.
He told the persona that there is a lot of crime in his area and that he was thinking of killing the Jewish man in a place where it would seem like a random attack.
According to the criminal complaint, further FBI investigation into the synagogue indicated that the Jewish man does not appear to be an IDF soldier.
AKHTAR STARTED PLANNING TERRORIST ATTACK BEFORE BEING ARRESTED
In May 2025, Akhtar shared that he had started making plans to carry out a terrorist attack at a populated event. He said he planned to infiltrate an event run by non-believers by dressing like them and pretending to be one of them, but told the persona he "needs some help in how to make a boom," and accompanied the message with a kaboom emoji.
He asked the persona for information on how to make an bomb and stated that he had not yet chosen a target for the attack but would figure one out.
On June 23, 2025, Akhtar met in person with an undercover FBI agent he believed to be affiliated with ISIS. During the meeting, Akhtar gave the agent binoculars, $400 cash, two loaded guns, and six magazines of ammunition.
Akhtar was detained the next day and charged with attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, which he pleaded guilty to on Friday.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in February 2027 and faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison with a $250,000 fine.
