[ShabelleMedia] Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), supported by international partners, carried out a planned operation in the Kuukaayle area of Maxaas district, Hiiraan region, targeting hideouts used by Al-Shabaab militants, security officials said Saturday.
According to NISA, the operation resulted in the killing of three militants described as “terror masterminds” and the destruction of two vehicles, a pickup truck and a Noah van, which had been concealed in a forested area.
The agency said the raid was part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts aimed at dismantling Al-Shabaab’s operational networks in central Somalia.
“The operation is another step forward in our campaign to eliminate the Al-Shabaab elements threatening the peace and stability of our people,” NISA said in a statement.
Somali forces, backed by international allies, have stepped up military operations across several regions as part of a nationwide offensive against the Al-Qaeda–linked group.

[ToI] Yemen’s Houthis arrested three local United Nations staff, accusing them of spying for Israel, a security source from the rebel group tells AFP.
“Two women working for the World Food Programme were taken from their homes on Saturday” in the rebel-held capital Sanaa, the source says, adding that a Yemeni man also working for the WFP was arrested that night.
“Security and intelligence services in Sanaa still have a list of people wanted for collaborating with the Israeli and American enemy,” the source adds.
They are the latest in a wave of arrests targeting UN and other nonprofit organization workers, with seven other local UN staffers arrested earlier this week on accusations of colluding with Israel. Last week, the rebels raided the UN compound in Sanaa, holding 20 staffers, including 15 foreigners, inside before they were released shortly afterwards.
The United Nations on Friday said that the Houthis had arrested 55 of its personnel since 2021.
Rebel leader Abdulmalik al-Huthi has claimed that UN agencies, including the WFP and UNICEF, have participated in “aggressive espionage.” He accused some of them of playing a role in Israeli strikes that targeted a cabinet meeting in August, killing the rebel prime minister.
Since the war against Hamas in Gaza began in October 2023, Yemen’s Houthis have repeatedly targeted both Israel and Red Sea shipping routes in a campaign they say is in solidarity with the Palestinians.
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A British man who traveled to Syria to fight for an armed group linked to al-Qaeda was sentenced to nine years in prison following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command, authorities said on Oct. 24.
According to the Met Police, Isa Giga, 32, from Hounslow, west London, was arrested at Heathrow Airport on May 23, 2024, after returning from Turkey. Investigators established that he had traveled to Syria in 2015 to join Jaysh al-Fath, a coalition of Islamist armed factions that included the al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra.

Giga was convicted on July 18 of engaging in conduct in preparation for terrorist acts, contrary to Section 5 of the UK Terrorism Act 2006, after a two-week trial at the Old Bailey court in London.
The investigation revealed that Giga flew from Heathrow to Istanbul on Sep. 7, 2015, then continued to Adana, southern Turkey, before crossing the border into Syria. Counterterrorism officers gathered evidence from flight records, bank transactions, and family messages confirming his intent to “fight for jihad.”
In one exchange with an undercover officer in 2016, Giga reportedly expressed support for Jabhat al-Nusra and said he “wanted martyrdom very soon in the first row,” referring to the battlefield in Syria, the Met Police reported.

Today at the Old Bailey, Giga has been convicted of preparation of terrorist acts after claiming he only went to Syria in 2015 to live an Islamic life.
The Recorder of London, Judge Mark Lucraft sentenced Giga to nine years with an extended licence period of one year.
He will be subject to notification requirements for terrorist offenders for 15 years.
Prosecutor Joel Smith, KC, said: 'By 2015, Syria was in the middle of a bloody, brutal and long-running civil war.
'That civil war involved many groups and factions and one of those groups was Jaish al Fath. In English that translates as "The Army of Conquest"'.
Mr Smith described Jaysah as 'an alliance of armed, Islamist factions including an al-Qaeda affiliated group whose aim was, by military force, to establish an Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... in the area of Idlib, in Syria'.
He continued: 'One of the main groups that was part of Jaish was called Jabhat al-Nusra ...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ... . They attempted to appeal to imported muscle by portraying themselves as a more "moderate" alternative to ISIS.

Mr Smith said multiple messages show Giga admitting he was involved with Jaish and jihad.
In 2015 Giga was 22 and living with his parents and sister in west London.
He handed in his notice at the business company ANS on August 2015 after five months.
One week after finishing work on September 7 2015 Giga flew from Heathrow to Asana in the south of Turkey via Istanbul.
He paid £808.86 for a business class return ticket with no intention of returning on that flight.
Giga's family gave police access to emails he sent them.
He emailed his sister to say he had dropped his phone and it was not working on September 8 2015.
The next day Giga's sister emailed him saying she had tried to contact three hotels in Birmingham to get hold of him saying: 'How are we supposed to contact you? parents aren't happy and nor am I'.
Giga had not told his family he had quit his job but did so via email.
He said: 'On sunday night I did not go to bham I went to ibis in hayes and I took a flight to Turkey on late Monday.
'I crossed the border into Syria on tuesday evening.
'I have come here to fight for jihad. I'm based in idlib province and I fight for Jaish al Fath which is the rebel coalition which includes the free Syrian army up to al-Qaeda linked groups
'I have come here to fight against assad and also to fight against isis. I cant sit at home when fellow muslims are in need and their religion is in danger.'
He said he did not need his parents permission to fight for jihad and said he needed to emigrate from Britannia 'where I cannot bear to live with non Moslems.'
Giga added that he loved them all so much and that it was 'painful for me to leave and say goodbye'.
He continued: 'But ultimately a muslim knows this life is a transition to an everlasting life and my life belongs to the one who created me. Not the ones who gave birth to me. Allah has commanded jihad. I am the servant and must obey.
'I have planned this for about a year now. No I was not brainwashed by am internet personality. I came to jihad after reading the quran and books by classical scholars.
'I am in good hands here. At the moment I live with some westerners and some Arabs. I start military work in 3 weeks.
'This won't be easy for you guys but once again I love you all so much but religion comes first. Hopefully we will spend eternity together in Jannah.'
His sister replied: 'Can not believe you have done this Isa. We loved you so much gave you total trust and you have just gone and thrown it our faces.'
His dad said: 'My Dearest Isa, We all hope and pray you are well.
'I will make this message short, but request as a father who always loved you from the bottom of my heart.
'I have tried in every little detail to hold your hand and guide you forward to adulthood.
'Please don't do anything that will break my or your mothers or families heart, stay within the bounds of true Islam and humanity, stay away from extremism and follow the Sunnah.
'If ever you need your families help you contact us without wasting a minute (any time day or night).
'I am returning the money I borrowed from you last week minus a few deductions so that you can feed and clothe yourself and maybe if you don't like the place use some of it to return to your family.
'Keep in touch and take special care of yourself.'
He sent £4,500 to his son's Lloyds bank account, the court heard.
Giga emailed his sister on 17 October 2015 saying: 'I wanted to send you another email a while back but I don't have much internet access anymore because of the russian planes and drones all around us.
'I wanted to send an email without seeing you initial reply because i can't bare to see words from you guys which show that you are upset, i did see the first reply, but at the moment i don't have the strength to see whatever other emails have been sent.
'Honestly i love you all so much and even when writing this i can't hold back the tears, if it wasn't a religious obligation for me to have gone of course i would never have left, more than anything what i want is to spend eternity with you guys.
'I know it probably seems like empty words to you but that is far from the case.'
He told them that if they did not hear from him for more than two months they should assume he had passed away and that he hoped 'more than anything to gain martyrdom while fighting against isis or against the Assad regime'.
'I hope more than anything to gain martyrdom while fighting against isis or against the assad regime but i fear death as much as anyone else.
Giga's father travelled to Rehanley, Turkey to try and contact his son and sent a letter to him begging for him to return.
'I can't bear to see your mum cry everyday and be depressed and her life destroyed,' he said.
Giga replied: 'I have not come here with the intention of returning back.
'I will not walk away from Syria, how can I walk away when there is death all around me, I feel like paradise is very close here, just two days ago one of my friends from the UK was martyred while in a battle.
'Even though I long to meet my parents, more than anything else I want to enter into paradise without being punished, and I want to be able to intercede for my family.
'You may think that me leaving you guys means I don't love you, but one of he primary reasons I am motivated to be here is I want to spend eternity with you guys in paradise.'
In the email Giga included a link to a book by Shaykh Abdullah Azzam who was a mentor for the late Osama bin Laden ...... who is now among the dear departed, though not among the dearest...... in his youth.
He continued to insist he had gone to Syria simply to carry out 'private religious study.'

State prosecutors filed charges Sunday against three Ottoman Turkish citizens accused of smuggling guns into Israel and entering the country illegally. One of the defendants, Oktay Asci, was also charged with providing the means to commit a terrorist act.
The three were part of a larger arms trafficking network run by a Ottoman Turkish national residing outside of the country, who in 2023 helped smuggle Asci into Israel to work in construction, prosecutors said.
Members of the network purchased firearms from an Iranian arms dealer and smuggled them into Jordan, from where they were then spirited into Israel by workers entering the country, apparently in an effort to arm bandidosbandidos hard boys within Israel and the West Bank.
The Shin Bet has warned in the past that Iran, particularly over the course of the recent war with Hamas ..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,... , has been engaged in an ongoing effort to undermine Israeli security by smuggling guns into the country, with the aim of arming terror cells.
According to the charges filed, Asci had joined the arms trafficking ring before he was deported in July 2025, after spending some two and a half years in the country. He recruited the other two defendants, Younes Ozel and Rahman Gokyer, earlier this year.
Following his deportation, Asci tried in September to return alongside the second defendant, Gokyer, in order to partake in the gun-trafficking ring from within the country.
Both Asci and Gokyer were to receive and then sell the guns within Israel, both were promised $1 million as compensation from the Ottoman Turkish ringleader. The pair tried to hop the security fence with Jordan near Kibbutz Shaar Hagolan near the Golan Heights, but were nabbed by IDF forces.
They had initially planned to bring three handguns with them into the country, but came empty-handed after a dispute between the arms dealers, the prosecution said.
Ozel was also staying illegally in Israel as a construction worker, and was enlisted by Asci as a middleman. He went to the Tel Aviv Central Bus Station twice to carry out arms deals. He was to collect money from a shop at the station, then exchange it with an unknown person in return for the weapons.
The dealer failed to arrive on both occasions. Ozel pocketed the NIS 5,000 ($1,500) for himself. He was arrested separately from the other two, also in September this year, police said.
The three were interrogated by Sherlocks in the police’s Lahav 433 major crimes unit as part of a joint investigation conducted by the police, Shin Bet and IDF.
The three were indicted Sunday at the Nazareth District Court, and prosecutors requested they remain in jug until the end of legal proceedings.
Weapons smuggling has posed a challenge to Israeli authorities, particularly along the border with Jordan, much of which lacks significant fencing compared to the more heavily-guarded borders with Egypt, Leb ...Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects.... and Syria.
Earlier in October, the Shin Bet announced it had foiled an Iranian-linked attempt to smuggle a large quantity of weapons to West Bank terror operatives. What odds there was something or someone Hezbollah sheltered near the UNIFIL patrol, and that was what the IDF was aiming for?
[IsraelTimes] The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) claims that an Israeli drone dropped a grenade near one of its patrols earlier today, and an Israeli tank fired toward the observers.
“This afternoon, at about 5:45 p.m., an Israeli drone came close to a UNIFIL patrol operating near Kfar Kila and dropped a grenade. Moments later, an Israeli tank fired a shot towards the peacekeepers,” UNIFIL says.
The observer force says that no damage or injuries were caused in the incident.
UNIFIL says that earlier, another Israeli drone flew over its patrol “in an aggressive manner.” It adds that “the peacekeepers applied necessary defensive countermeasures to neutralize the drone.”
“These actions by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are in violation of Security Council resolution 1701 and Lebanon’s sovereignty, and show disregard for the safety and security of the peacekeepers implementing Security Council-mandated tasks in southern Lebanon,” UNIFIL says.
There is no immediate comment from the IDF on the UNIFIL claims.
Earlier this month, UNIFIL twice accused the IDF of dropping grenades near its observers, including one incident in which an observer was lightly hurt.
In both of those incidents, the IDF said it had attempted to disperse Hezbollah activity, with no intention to harm the UNIFIL observers.
Israel has long argued that the observer force had failed in its mission, doing little to block Hezbollah from building up its forces near the Israeli border over decades.
An Israeli military drone was shot down by the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) during a routine surveillance mission in the Kafr Kila area on Sunday, the military said Monday.
According to an IDF statement, the drone had posed no threat to the UNIFIL observers, who opened fire on the device and downed it on Sunday.
The IDF said that after the UAV was shot down by UNIFIL, it flew another drone over the area, which dropped a grenade, apparently to prevent people from approaching the site of the downed drone.
“An Israeli drone came close to a UNIFIL patrol operating near Kfar Kila and dropped a grenade. Moments later, an Israeli tank fired a shot towards the peacekeepers,” UNIFIL said in a statement.
“These actions by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are in violation of Security Council resolution 1701 and Lebanon’s sovereignty, and show disregard for the safety and security of the peacekeepers implementing Security Council-mandated tasks in southern Lebanon,” UNIFIL said.

[Rudaw] Israeli forces have advanced into Syrian territory at more than one location, state media and a conflict monitor stated on Saturday.
Israeli forces moved toward the village of al-Hamidiyah located in Quneitra province on Saturday, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported, calling it a violation of international treaties and the 1974 disengagement agreement.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) stated that Israeli patrol vehicles "headed from al-Ishah village to al-Rabi’a neighbourhood and farmlands to the north of al-Rafidu and Ain al-Abd towns in the southern countryside of al-Quneitra."
Israeli drones were operating in the skies while the patrol was conducting searches and setting up checkpoints, according to SOHR.
A day earlier, a six-vehicle Israeli military patrol also advanced into Syrian territory, SANA reported.
The SOHR also reported that Israeli forces on Friday advanced "into an area near Ain Aisha junction on al-Shalam highway which connects Damascus and al-Quneitra, where the junction is located nearly 40 kilometers away from Damascus city centre. The Israeli forces established a checkpoint, before they withdrew a few hours later."
After the collapse of the former Syrian regime last December, Tel Aviv intensified efforts to destroy Damascus’s military stockpiles and its forces have entered buffer zones east of the Israel-annexed Golan Heights.
Israel's military activity was discussed at a meeting of the United Nations ...the Oyster Bay money pit... Security Council in August where all sides were urged to abide by the 1974 agreement that was adopted to create a buffer zone between the neighbouring states.

No casualties are reported, it added.
The SDF said their forces "responded appropriately, accurately targeting the source of the fire."
"Our forces remain on high alert to protect local residents and ensure stability in the region."

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A man was killed and two others were wounded on Saturday when Turkish border guards opened fire on them as they attempted to cross the border in the countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), north of Hasakah, local sources told North Press.
The sources said that Mohammed al-Saeed al-Thalj lost his life, while Abdulmalik al-Douri and Issam al-Fawaz sustained injuries. All three men are from the town of Gharanij in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
According to the same sources, the Turkish Gendarmerie opened fire as the three individuals approached the border fence west of Sere Kaniye, an area that has witnessed repeated incidents of similar nature over the past months.
In September, two civilians were killed and three others injured under similar circumstances when Turkish border guards fired live bullets at people attempting to cross into Turkish territory from the same region.

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A 13-year-old boy was injured on Sunday when a bomb detonator exploded in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, a local source reported.
The injured boy, identified as Mohammed Mahmoud al-Awad al-Ali, was wounded in an explosion that occurred in the Hawi Mahkan area, east of Deir ez-Zor. According to medical sources, he was transferred to al-Mayadin Hospital to receive necessary treatment, though his medical condition remains unclear.
Explosions caused by remnants of war continue to claim victims across Syria, particularly in the eastern regions, where large areas remain contaminated with unexploded ordnance left from years of conflict involving various military actors.
Earlier today, the IDF carried out precise, intelligence-guided strikes eliminating:
