[NYP] Two church non-profits have taken in at least $62 million to build the Somali community in Minnesota — leading to the rise of Ilhan Omar and the fraud scandals that have gripped that state, The Post can reveal.
Catholic Charities and Lutheran Social Services were at the forefront of reshaping the frigid Land of 10,000 Lakes thanks to generous government contracts stemming back generations.
“This is a very big pile of government money and a whole bunch of different groups have come to get their own slice of it,” Parker Thayer, an immigration expert at the Washington, DC-based Capital Research Center, told The Post.
He added the total money pouring into Minneapolis resettlement programs alone is “in the hundreds of millions.”
He noted that since 2021, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, the body overseeing Catholic Charities, has received $140 million in migrant resettlement contracts from the federal government.
“It is hurting the ability of these organizations to fundraise in arguably more important areas of their work. I imagine a lot of donors are being pushed away by something that is very reasonably viewed as highly controversial by a lot of people,” Thayer said.
Before Minnesota became Somali central, it was known as the Hmong hub.
The state first became a test ground for a Vietnam-era resettlement program — with powerful advocacy from then-Vice President Walter Mondale and Minnesota’s Democrat governor Al Quie, according to local historians.
Mondale, a Democrat from Minnesota who served as President Jimmy Carter’s veep, traveled with Quie to Asia to visit refugee camps and came back describing the horrid conditions they saw.
That led them to become interested in resettling the Hmong people, a Southeast Asian ethnic group recruited by the CIA to fight a “Secret War” against communist forces in Laos.
Dang “Donald” Hawj and his pregnant wife Shoua were the first Hmong to arrive in Minnesota in 1975, and the family is still celebrated by locals today.
Mondale then headed the US delegation to the United Nations in 1979, where he delivered a speech which helped secure international commitments to resettlement, framing the crisis in moral terms by comparing it to a failure to protect Jewish refugees before and during World War II.
Within a couple years, the Twin Cities’ Hmong population was in the thousands.
Catholic Charities and Lutheran Social Services — the latter now called Global Refuge — had built an extensive resettlement operation as far back as World War II to help Christians displaced from war-torn Europe, so were a natural go-for the federal government to help with its mass resettlement.
During World War II, however, their operations were largely funded from the pews, not Uncle Sam, said Kelsey Reinhardt, president and CEO of the nonprofit advocacy group CatholicVote.
“I don’t think there’s a recognition of how generous the US has been,” she told The Post.
While the current pope and his predecessor have been strong advocates of open border migration policies, Reinhardt says the gospel is also very clear on the importance of nationhood.
“We have to look to the gospel origins on this. The gospel mandates the welcoming of strangers but there’s no unbridled welcoming of people, for example those who hate you or who are going to kill or steal from you,” she told The Post.
“We need to ask difficult questions of what our national sovereignty means. What extent are we able to assimilate people? Is the vetting sufficient?”
When Somalia was thrown into civil war in the 1990s and the US decided to take in refugees, the Minnesota operation was already an established, well-oiled machine.
The two church groups have resettled an estimated 29,000 Somalians into Minnesota since 1993, collecting a reported $2,500 per refugee to cover costs like food, initial housing and social workers.
The population today is over 100,000 in Minnesota according to data, thanks to chain migration (also known as “family reunification”) and the state’s generous welfare system, which became a magnet for Somalis, including those initially placed elsewhere in the US.
“They picked Minnesota because it had extremely generous state social safety net policies and welfare programs, which of course made resettling refugees there easier,” Thayer said. “Refugees from Somalia then moved to Minnesota after they were resettled elsewhere, in places like South Dakota.
“A lot of these people, while claiming to be refugees, you look at their Facebook pages, or you look at indictments and find that they routinely travel out of the US back to the place they are supposedly a refugee from,” he added.
The Biden administration oversaw the largest jump in living memory of migrant resettlement operations.
Minnesota has been a flashpoint in the controversial effort, where a gob-smacking $9 billion in estimated welfare fraud, largely stemming from the Somali community, was uncovered in the last year — speculated to be the largest welfare scam in the history of the US.
On Monday, the home of Democrat congresswoman Ilhan Omar, a native Somalian whose district includes Minneapolis’s “Little Mogadishu,” was raided by federal immigration officials as part of a criminal investigation.
“They’re creating multiple problems by resettling large numbers of people in one area at the same time they’re creating isolated ethnic enclaves across America, which seem to be causing some cultural problems,” Thayer said.
A spokesperson for Catholic Charities Twin Cities said they closed their refugee and immigrant programs in 2018. Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota did not respond to a request for comment.

Both Catholic Charities and Lutheran Social Services have been grifting systems for years, DooDah.
Although having truly sincere and caring goals when founded, and were funded by private donations only, both have discovered the government teat and have exploited that to the fullest extent.
Check out their 990's (tax return for exempt organizations...it's a public record) sometime to see where all that money actually goes.
Unfortunately, historically the Lutherans have never had to deal with invading pIslamic hordes. As a rule they have no fracking idea what they are dealing with.

Based on their current recording year with income of almost $160,000,000, it looks like only ~10% ($16M) went to 'Outreach' and the balance went to Payroll, Admin, travel and other in-house expenses.

Sorry, 'their current year' is in this case 2023.
I've filled out and read many 990's (for churches, clubs, etc.) and they can be daunting. It does help that I know where to usually look in them, though.
Page 9 has their total income at the bottom.
Page 10 has their total expenses at the bottom.
Still not what I'd consider overly 'outreach oriented'. At least the Red Cross only has around an 80% Payroll, Admin, travel and other in-house expenses.
The rest of it has what they received and from where, plus what they spent and to where.

[GaroweOnline] Forces loyal to ousted Southwest State leader Abdiaziz Hassan Mohammed Laftagareen have captured the strategic town of Buurhakaba
…alternate spelling Burhakaba…
in the Bay region following heavy festivities with troops aligned with the federal government and the administration led by Sheikh Aden Mohammed Nur Madobe, officials said on Thursday.
The takeover marks a further escalation in the struggle for control of Southwest State, with Laftagareen-aligned forces also having taken control of Qansahdhere, another district in the Bay region, in recent days. The developments are putting additional pressure on the administration installed in Baidoa with the backing of Mogadishu.
Fighting in Buurhakaba began early Thursday, with residents reporting heavy gunfire and explosions as Laftagareen's forces attacked positions held by federal troops and regional forces supporting Madobe. Fighters loyal to the former regional leader subsequently entered parts of the town, according to local reports.
Hassan Abdi, a former front man for the Southwest administration who is aligned with Laftagareen, said in a video circulated on social media that the forces had entered Buurhakaba and would remain there. He urged residents to welcome the troops and said they would not target individuals.
The extent of the forces' control and the number of casualties were not immediately independently verified. Somalia's federal government and the administration led by Madobe had not publicly commented on the reported takeover at the time of publication.
Buurhakaba occupies a strategic position along the main road connecting Mogadishu with Baidoa, the administrative capital of Southwest State. Control of the town could affect the movement of security forces, commercial transport and supplies along the route.
The reported capture follows the takeover of Qansahdhere, where Laftagareen-aligned forces said they had established control earlier this month. The successive advances indicate that the former leader's supporters are seeking to expand their presence beyond areas where they have maintained influence since his removal from power.
Laftagareen was ousted in March after federal forces took control of Baidoa amid a dispute over the leadership of Southwest State. Madobe subsequently emerged as the head of the administration backed by Mogadishu, but Laftagareen's supporters have continued to challenge the change in leadership through armed mobilization and repeated festivities.
The confrontation has deepened political and security tensions in the region, where disputes over authority have increasingly spilled into fighting. The latest developments raise concerns about further festivities and the impact on civilians, particularly if the fighting spreads toward Baidoa.
The security situation remained fluid on Thursday, and it was unclear whether federal-backed forces would launch a counteroffensive or whether Laftagareen-aligned troops could consolidate their position in Buurhakaba.

[IsraelNationalNews] Israel ranks first in projected economic growth for 2026 among advanced European economies, according to the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) World Economic Outlook report for October 2026.
According to the report, Israel's economy is expected to expand by 4.5% this year, the highest growth rate among the economies included in the IMF's Advanced Europe category. Malta follows with projected growth of 4.2%, while Denmark ranks third at 3.7%.
The figures show that the Advanced Europe group as a whole is expected to grow by just 1.3% in 2026, while the euro area is projected to expand by 1.1%. In case you wondered why enlightened Europeans hate Israel so much.
The haters are loud and destructive, but not everyone agrees with them.

They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... Kata'ib Hezbollah said Wednesday that negotiations over regulating armed factions' weapons remained at "square one," accusing Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi of failing to respond to a proposed agreement and demanding clarification of Baghdad's positions on regional conflicts and Iraqi illusory sovereignty.
"To this day, the Islamic Resistance® has not received an official response from the prime minister regarding the weapons regulation document that was agreed upon via the framework negotiation committee, which indicates that it is still at square one," Abu Mujahid al-Assaf, the group's security chief, said in a statement published on Telegram.
Assaf's remarks come amid continuing disagreements between the Iraqi government and powerful pro-Iran armed factions over Baghdad's efforts to bring all weapons outside state control under government authority.
The government initially sought to resolve the issue by September 30, coinciding with the end of the US-led coalition's military mission in Iraq, but later extended the deadline to June 30, 2027. Several Iran-backed factions have disputed the timetable, saying that no final agreement has been reached.
Not all Iran-backed factions have taken the same position. On October 1, Kataib Sayyed ...Arabic term meaning your/his lordship. Groveling in His Exalted Presence is encouraged... al-Shuhada announced its conditional support for an agreement on regulating weapons and the prime minister's pledge to bring arms under state authority, provided other parties fulfilled their commitments. Kataib Hezbollah and Harakat al-Nujaba, however, have continued to challenge the disarmament process.
The dispute comes amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran in the Strait of Hormuz, where attacks on commercial vessels have intensified and the United States is reportedly weighing renewed strikes on Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that further American attacks would be met with a forceful response, raising concerns that another escalation could draw pro-Iran Iraqi factions back into the conflict.
Earlier this month, Zaidi said gangs had agreed to a roadmap for bringing their weapons under state control by June 2027. However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves... Kata'ib Hezbollah and the Islamic Resistance® in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella grouping of Iran-aligned factions, rejected suggestions that they were bound by any government timetable.
In Wednesday's statement, Assaf said his group was seeking clarification from the prime minister out of concern for Iraq's stability and security, presenting eight questions about the government's foreign policy and its response to regional developments.
He demanded that Zaidi clarify Baghdad's position on US sanctions against Iran, Israeli military operations in Leb ...The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else?... and the Paleostinian territories, Saudi Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula, largely made up of sand and oil rigs. 's actions in Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... , and what he described as Emirati interference in Iraqi affairs.
Assaf also asked what the premier's position was regarding what he referred to as "violations" of Iraqi airspace despite US withdrawal.
The military chief also questioned whether US President Donald Trump ...The cad! Twice caught beating wimmin!... had asked Zaidi to normalize relations with Israel.
Assaf's statement also addressed the arrests of individuals accused of desecrating the US flag during celebrations marking the withdrawal of coalition forces.
"It is the right of Iraqis to burn and crush the flags of the American and Zionist enemies, and it is their right to accuse anyone who deals with them of treason," he said.
He urged supporters to designate one or more days annually for burning and trampling the flags.
The remarks follow arrests ordered by Zaidi after members of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) were filmed driving vehicles over US and Israeli flags laid on the ground during a procession in Baghdad.
Just as well, since the next round is coming up fast.
[Jpost] As countries scramble to increase their missile interceptor stockpile, Rafael's new facility in Arkansas is expected to have the capacity to produce 1,000 Tamir interceptors a year
Funding American jobs, paying American taxes — win/win!
Rafael Advanced Defense Systems emerged from Israel’s recent wars with Iran with more Tamir interceptors in stock than it had when the fighting began, despite thousands of interceptors being fired to defend the country against missiles, rockets, and drones, according to CEO Yoav Tourgeman.
"We ended the war with more Tamir interceptors than before," Tourgeman told Defense & Tech by The Jerusalem Post in an exclusive interview at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting & Exposition in Washington, DC.
For decades, air-defense development focused primarily on improving the performance of individual systems with greater range, better accuracy, and higher interception rates. But recent conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East have exposed a significant challenge where even the most advanced interceptor is of limited value if a defending country cannot produce enough of them to sustain operations through a prolonged campaign.
For Rafael, the Israeli defense company behind the famous Iron Dome and David’s Sling, industrial capacity is becoming inseparable from operational effectiveness.
The challenge is building an architecture that can handle them all, including simultaneous attacks designed to overwhelm defenses through sheer volume. The company’s answer is a layered approach to air defense, matching different systems to different threats, from inexpensive drones and rockets to ballistic missiles and emerging hypersonic weapons.
No single interceptor can economically or effectively address every threat, Tourgeman argued, adding that “we are building the right solution for the right threat.”
The Israeli company's combat credentials remain central to that argument. According to Tourgeman, Iron Dome and David's Sling have intercepted more than 11,000 threats together since becoming operational.
“There would have been a lot more blood in the streets without the Iron Dome,” he said. “These systems have proven themselves in situations we once thought impossible.”
1,000 INTERCEPTORS A YEAR
But intercepting incoming weapons is only part of the equation. Replenishing inventories during a sustained conflict requires manufacturing capacity, reliable supply chains, skilled workers, and the ability to expand output without compromising quality.
That has been driving Rafael’s international expansion across 48 different countries, and with governments increasingly looking not only for advanced technology but also for confidence that suppliers can deliver when demand surges, Rafael has subsidiaries worldwide.
Rafael has also increased automation across its manufacturing operations and is expanding production partnerships overseas. Its new facility in Arkansas is expected to have the capacity to produce roughly 1,000 interceptors annually for both the United States and Israel. It will also provide a US-based manufacturing source as Washington and its allies seek to rebuild munitions stockpiles and strengthen domestic defense production.
Tourgeman also told D&T that Rafael is willing to transfer intellectual property and deepen cooperation with American industry. And for end-users, that appeal extends beyond delivery timelines because domestic production can reduce dependence on overseas supply chains and give governments greater control over critical defense capabilities during a crisis.
As European governments confront a more threatening security environment and the prospect of sustained high-intensity warfare, the continent is another major market. Germany, in particular, has been rebuilding its long-term air and missile-defense requirements.
In September, the German state of Lower Saxony, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, and Aurelius Capital signed a letter of intent to purchase Volkswagen’s Osnabrück plant, allowing the Israeli defense company to establish the production of Iron Dome components in Germany.
That, Tourgeman confirmed, was the first step towards Berlin acquiring the Iron Dome.
“What we’re doing in Germany is bringing confidence and safety to the population,” he said.
He also suggested that civilian industrial sectors, particularly automotive manufacturing, could play a larger role in defense production. Car plants already possess expertise in high-volume manufacturing, quality control, and supply-chain management, which could help governments rapidly scale weapons production during periods of crisis.
STAYING AHEAD OF THE NEXT GENERATION OF THREATS
Beyond today's missile threats, Rafael is preparing for the next generation of challenges.
At AUSA the company showcased a full-size model of Sky Sonic, its interceptor designed to counter hypersonic missiles. The interceptor was first announced over three years and Tourgeman dismissed the idea that hypersonic weapons represent an entirely new category of threat, arguing that many of the technologies needed to defeat advanced missiles already exist within Rafael's portfolio.
More pressing, he suggested, is the rise of coordinated attacks involving large numbers of inexpensive drones operating alongside traditional missiles.
Such attacks can expose critical infrastructure and create a difficult economic and operational problem for defenders, and the West has already seen how using costly interceptors against cheap drones can quickly strain inventories.
Countering the threat will require systems that can coordinate sensors, weapons, and decision-making across a network rather than operate as isolated platforms.
At AUSA, the company showcased solutions designed to operate within networked defense architectures and is advancing concepts such as Hunter Eagle, which Tourgeman described as a platform capable of functioning within a mesh network against drone swarms, both offensively and defensively.
That approach reflects a broader change in the economics of air warfare. The side launching an attack can increasingly draw on large numbers of relatively cheap, expendable weapons. The defender, meanwhile, must preserve enough interceptors and other capabilities to protect cities, military assets, and critical infrastructure over days, weeks, or longer.
For Rafael, the next contest in air defense will therefore be measured not only by interception rates or technological sophistication, but also by production lines, supply chains, and the ability to replenish stocks while fighting continues.
In a prolonged war, the decisive advantage may belong not simply to the country with the best interceptor, but to the one that can keep producing it at scale.
[Jpost] Rubio urged Aoun to hold accountable those who ordered, financed, and directed the shipment of of hundreds of kilograms of explosives from Hezbollah.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio ...The diminutive 13-year-old Republican U.S. Senator from Florida, Secretary of State in the second Trump administration... spoke with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun about the confiscation of hundreds of kilograms of explosives from Hezbollah, a US State Department official said on Thursday.
Rubio urged Aoun to hold accountable those who ordered, financed and directed the shipment, and "underscored that returning explosives to (Hezbollah) should be out of the question," the US official said.
Rubio urged direct military-to-military communication between Lebanese and Israeli forces "for deconfliction," the official added.
A Hezbollah politician said earlier the explosives seized last week by Lebanese security forces belonged to his group.
The politician, Hassan Fadlallah, said Hezbollah had intended to use the explosives against Israel, whose troops are occupying swathes of Lebanese territory seized in this year's war.
A Hezbollah official and a Lebanese security source told Rooters the explosives seized in a car last week were intended to be used in explosive drones targeting Israeli troops.
Aoun told Rubio the Lebanese army and security forces were fully carrying out decisions to prevent armed displays, confiscate weapons and combat smuggling, the presidency said, adding Aoun asked Rubio to pressure Israel to halt attacks on southern Lebanese towns and villages.

Tehran subsequently launched its own strikes on Israel and Gulf states that host US bases. US-Israeli strikes on Iran and Israeli attacks on Lebanon during the war have killed thousands and displaced millions.
Under a deal reached through US-brokered Israel-Lebanon talks, Beirut vowed to disarm Hezbollah, which would in turn lead to Israeli troops gradually withdrawing from Lebanon. But Hezbollah has refused to disarm as long as Israeli forces remain on Lebanese land and Israel has continued striking southern Lebanon.

[North Press] Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Thursday that Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa was waiting for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to lose Israel’s election before resuming attacks on Druze communities in Syria.
Katz made the remarks at a Likud Party conference focused on Israel’s Druze community in Yarka, northern Israel, according to Israeli media reports.
He claimed that al-Sharaa had prepared Arab tribal fighters, internal security forces and the Syrian army to attack the Druze, adding that the Syrian president was waiting for the election results.
Katz said al-Sharaa hoped Netanyahu would lose the election and would then seek to continue his previous actions, referring to violence in Syria’s southern Suwayda governorate.
In July 2025, clashes between Druze armed groups and Bedouin tribal fighters in Suwayda prompted the deployment of Syrian government forces. Israel later launched strikes in Syria, including in Damascus, saying it aimed to protect the Druze community.
