[ShabelleMedia] Somalia’s intelligence agency said a former head of al-Shabaab ... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... ’s Amniyat security wing was killed in a planned operation carried out with international partners in the southern town of Jilib.
The National Intelligence and Security Agency, or NISA, identified the man as Bashir Ahmed Haji Nunow and said he was killed during the operation on Oct. 1, 2026.
NISA said Nunow led the murderous Moslem group’s Amniyat unit between 2016 and 2024. The agency said he operated under several aliases, including Geescadde, Fanax, Gardhuub and Ali Dheere.
The agency accused Nunow of playing a senior role in planning and carrying out attacks against Somali civilians. It specifically linked him to several major attacks in Mogadishu, including the Oct. 14, 2017, bombing at the Soobe intersection.
NISA also attributed the Ex-Control Afgooye attack and the attack known as Soobe 2 to Nunow, along with assaults targeting hotels and other locations around Mogadishu’s Lido Beach.
The agency said the operation formed part of a wider campaign to pursue senior al-Shabaab figures accused of directing attacks and maintaining the networks used to organise murderous Moslem operations.
NISA said the killing could disrupt al-Shabaab’s leadership and the networks responsible for planning and executing attacks. It did not provide details on how Nunow was killed or whether other people were killed or maimed in the operation.
Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-linked murderous Moslem group, has waged an insurgency in Somalia for more than a decade and continues to carry out attacks despite military operations by Somali forces and their international partners.
The Somali government has increasingly focused on targeting the group’s big shotship and disrupting its command, intelligence and financial networks as part of efforts to weaken the insurgency.
[LibyaReview] Authorities in Libya’s Benghazi deported 100 Ethiopian migrants on October 6, 2026, after completing the required legal procedures, according to the Greater Benghazi branch of the Directorate for Combating Illegal Migration.
The operation was carried out under instructions from Major General Salah Mahmoud Al-Khafeefi, head of the directorate, as authorities continue security campaigns targeting irregular migration and attempted departures from Libya’s coastline.
SECURITY CAMPAIGNS CONTINUE IN BENGHAZI
The directorate said its branches have continued operations aimed at identifying and detaining migrants without valid legal documentation.
Some of those detained in recent campaigns were intercepted while attempting to leave Libya irregularly by sea, according to the agency.
Authorities said legal measures were taken against those detained in accordance with existing procedures before deportation or transfer to designated facilities.
The Greater Benghazi branch did not specify the route used to deport the 100 Ethiopian nationals or provide details about their final destination.
The latest operation comes shortly after security forces detained 258 undocumented migrants of various nationalities during a campaign in several areas of Benghazi, including the Egyptian Market and Sidi Younes districts. Those detained were transferred to the Greater Benghazi Shelter and Detention Centre for further procedures.

By Zagazola Makama
Troops of 109 Special Forces Battalion, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have arrested a suspected high-profile terrorist in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect, identified as Madumaki Modugai, was tracked and apprehended at about 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 5, 2026, in Magumeri town following intelligence-led operations.
The suspect was said to have sneaked into the town, triggering panic and tension among residents who became apprehensive over his presence.
His arrest, however, helped to calm the situation and restore confidence among the locals.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspect had allegedly been operating around the fringes of the Lake Chad region and Niger Republic.
Residents and local vigilantes also reportedly told security personnel that the suspect had been involved in terrorist-related activities for about four years.
The suspect remains in military custody for further interrogation and necessary action, while security agencies are expected to investigate his activities, movements and possible links with terrorist networks operating around the Lake Chad basin.

Taiz City | Day Three of the Siege | Besieged Taiz continues to fight back, but the pressure on the city and its civilian population is growing.
We are receiving reports of fuel shortages, dwindling supplies of baby formula and sharp increases in food prices, with some goods reportedly doubling or tripling in price. Houthi forces now control the main road linking Taiz with Al-Turbah and Aden, effectively severing the city’s primary southern supply route, while Houthi positions surround Taiz from all sides.
One resident today reported paying 10,000 Yemeni rials [$6.37] for a small bottle of gasoline.
Despite the shortages, civilian support for the front lines continues. Video posted by Taiz resident Sanad Raweh shows a civilian convoy carrying food, water and other supplies from the city to troops at the Air Defense front on Jabal al-Sumoud wal-Tahaddi.
Raweh said he visited the front alongside Ali al-Maamari al-Ajar, director general of the Taiz branch of the Yemen Petroleum Company. He described morale among the troops as extremely high and said the civilian effort would continue across other fronts surrounding the city.
And they are still fighting.
The Yemen National Army’s Taiz Axis @axistaiz reports that government forces repelled a Houthi assault on the Al-Anin front in Bilad al-Wafi, Jabal Habashi district, west of the city. Government troops backed by local resistance fighters are also reporting intense fighting around Jabal Han.
Some of today’s heaviest clashes are being reported across Jabal Habashi and Al-Aqrud, while fighting has intensified across much of the Taiz Axis, particularly in the southern countryside and on the fronts surrounding the city.
On the Al-Silw front south of Taiz, government forces say they repelled another Houthi assault, killing 12 Houthi fighters and wounding others. Yemeni military aircraft also reportedly struck Jabal Matran in the Qadas area of Al-Mawasit district.
Against this backdrop, prominent Taiz-based anti-Houthi activist Taha Saleh issued a deeply personal message to the city’s residents and local resistance today.
His message was essentially this. Taiz should prepare to fight even without coalition air support. He argued that the city has been here before, has survived siege before and must now rely first on its own resistance.
Saleh acknowledged the scale of Houthi advances across rural Taiz, but drew a distinction between capturing sparsely defended countryside and breaking into the heavily defended urban core. He said the Houthis are throwing large numbers of reinforcements against Taiz from multiple directions but have so far failed to make meaningful gains against the city’s established defensive fronts.
He pointed specifically to the recent fighting on the eastern front, the Air Defense front, Jabal Han and other positions around the city, arguing that some of these battles have been among the heaviest Taiz has experienced since 2015.
His message to residents was one of defiance. Taiz has been surrounded before. It found alternative supply routes before. And, in his view, its defenders today are more numerous, better armed and more experienced than during the earlier siege.
“Now, everyone, this is our battle,” Saleh said. “We are used to fighting alone. We are used to holding out alone.”

[FoxNews] Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, 18, arrested after buying AK-47-style rifle from undercover FBI employee
An 18-year-old Minnesota man who allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS and discussed carrying out a mass shooting at the Mall of America was arrested after buying an AK-47-style rifle, magazines and ammunition from an undercover FBI employee, according to newly filed federal court documents.
Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud had allegedly spent months discussing his desire to carry out an attack, telling an FBI confidential source in September, "I can’t wait until I kill kuffar man. October 24 is the day insha Allah," according to an affidavit filed in federal court in Minnesota.
Mohamud, who was born in the United States and is a U.S. citizen, is the son of Somali nationals who later became naturalized U.S. citizens, his mother in 2010 and his father in 2017.
When the source later asked why he had chosen Oct. 24, Mohamud allegedly pointed to a "Hmong Arts Celebration" at the Mall of America, saying it would have "a lot of people," the affidavit states.
"Mohamud met with someone he believed to be a loyal member of ISIS to attempt to purchase an AK-47 rifle, knowing it would be used in a felony or federal crime of terrorism," Special Agent in Charge, FBI Minneapolis Field Office, Christopher Dotson said at a press conference Wednesday. "Mohamud planned to use the gun he bought in a high-traffic public area just a few weeks' time in support of a designated foreign terrorist organization."
Mohamud is now charged with knowingly receiving a firearm and ammunition while knowing or having reasonable cause to believe they would be used to commit a felony and federal crime of terrorism.
Mohamud, who was born in the United States and is a U.S. citizen, is the son of Somali nationals who later became naturalized U.S. citizens, multiple federal law enforcement sources told Fox News Digital.
His parents arrived in the U.S. through a New York City airport in 2000, according to the sources, though it remains unclear whether they entered on visas or as refugees. His mother became a naturalized citizen in 2010 and his father in 2017.
To whom are his parents connected? Because all the Somalis seem to br connected to someone.
FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News Digital in a statement that the suspect "allegedly obtained a weapon he hoped to use in a mass casualty attack in support of ISIS, but this FBI arrested him and put a stop to his plans."
"Once again, this FBI is moving more effectively than we ever have before at stopping terrorists before they can attack Americans – with over 1,100 individuals prevented from conducting attacks, over 4,000 foreign terrorist organization related disruptions and arrests, a 38% increase, and more," Patel said. "We will continue to use every resource we have to detect and prevent acts of terrorism and wipe out their networks all over the country. Thank you to FBI Minneapolis, who did an outstanding job in the investigation and likely saved lives."
Mohamud appeared before a federal judge in Minnesota on Wednesday for an eight-minute initial hearing, according to federal court records.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Cowan Wright ordered Mohamud temporarily detained. He is scheduled to return to court Monday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. ET for a preliminary and detention hearing.
In a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in the U.S. District of Minnesota, the FBI said agents had been investigating 18-year-old Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud since December 2024, during which time he allegedly spoke to a source online about traveling to Somalia to join a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) to then carry out an attack in Minnesota.
Mohamud was charged with one federal count of knowingly receiving a firearm and ammunition while knowing or having reasonable cause to believe they would be used to commit a felony and a federal crime of terrorism, after he allegedly accepted an AK-47-style rifle and about 200 rounds of ammunition on October 6, believing the weapons would be used in support of a terror attack connected to ISIS.
The affidavit filed Wednesday said Mohamud lived with his mother in Minnesota and attended school for part of the time the investigation was underway. At one point, he sent photos of himself to the FBI’s source as he outlined a plan to meet and purchase the firearm at the Mall of America.
ALLEGED PLAN TO ATTACK THE MALL OF AMERICA
The affidavit, filed by Special Agent Keegan Rupenthal, portrayed what was described as an evolution for Mohamud, a U.S. citizen, from wanting to travel overseas and join a terrorist group to allegedly carrying out a terrorist attack in Minnesota.
According to Rupenthal, Mohamud initially told a confidential source he wanted to travel to Somalia and fight for ISIS, but over time he repeatedly said that if he could not afford to do that, he would instead conduct an attack on U.S. soil.
The investigator alleged he discussed several possible attack scenarios, including a shooting targeting the Mall of America during the Christmas season. A mass-casualty shooting was described, with 30 to 60 fatalities the alleged goal.
Rupenthal outlined how Mohamud planned to switch tactics if the shooting was not possible, instead renting a truck to drive through a crowd.
Through multiple conversations with the source on various social media platforms and accounts, Mohamud repeatedly expressed his desire to carry out the attack, Rupenthal alleged, at one point saying he was 100 percent committed.
The agent also detailed a video sent by Mohamud to the source in September 2026, in which he allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi. Underneath that video, the suspect said he made the video in order to show that if he carried out his planned attack, people would know that he gave his allegiance to the group.
THE FBI INVESTIGATION
Agents collected screenshots, recordings, and social media communications they say were from Mohamud to the confidential human source over 21 months on platforms including TikTok and Discord.
In May 2025, FBI agents attempted to interview the suspect at his home, but they were unable to speak to him. A woman believed to be Mohamud’s mother said he was not at the residence and put agents in contact with his father, who said he would pass details to his attorney.
The agents kept watch on the communications between the suspect and the source, and the source later put him in touch with who he believed was an ISIS-connected gun supplier, but who was actually an FBI undercover agent.
On October 6, that agent met with Mohamud in Minnesota and sold him the AK-47 rifle, four magazines, and approximately 200 rounds of ammunition for $600. During that meeting, prosecutors said, he outlined his plans for the shooting at an arts festival at the mall. After Mohamud took the weapon and ammunition, agents arrested him in a parking lot in Richfield, Minnesota.

[Regnum] Oil supply volumes through the Strait of Hormuz have virtually returned to pre-US-Iran conflict levels. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced this on October 7 at a joint press conference with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis following a meeting in Athens.
"There's almost as much oil flowing through the strait now as there was before the conflict," Rubio said.
He also added that recent events surrounding Iran have demonstrated the need to diversify energy supply routes. Dependence on a single source provides leverage to individual countries, the Secretary of State noted.
On September 27, US President Donald Trump announced that a record volume of oil, exceeding pre-conflict levels with Iran, had been transported through the Strait of Hormuz the previous night. However, the White House chief did not specify the quantity transported.
That same day, the Iranian news agency Fars, run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reported that the Iranian Armed Forces had struck 19 merchant ships attempting to illegally transit the Strait of Hormuz. Seven vessels were hit on the night of September 27, and another 12 the night before.
They were? Are you sure?
The agency did not specify which ships were attacked or which countries they belonged to. The agency noted that the American leader's claims that his forces have complete control over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz are false.
International Chamber of Commerce Secretary General John Denton said on October 5 that restrictions on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz threaten a global food crisis.
[NorthPress] An oil pipeline near Tel Hamis village in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah Governorate was damaged in a sabotage attack on Wednesday, the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) said.
The company said its maintenance and emergency teams immediately went to the site, secured the area and isolated the damaged section before beginning repair work to restore the pipeline to service as soon as possible.
The company did not provide details on the extent of the damage or identify the nature of the attack.
It said authorities launched an investigation into the incident and identified and arrested those responsible. The suspects were handed over to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings and referral to the judiciary.
The affected pipeline is located near Tel Hamis, an area in Hasakah that contains important oil infrastructure and has been affected by disruptions to energy facilities in recent years.
The SPC said that repair and maintenance work remains underway, without specifying when the pipeline would resume operations.
