Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel insists his five-point plan would clean up ethics in government, and whoever emerges as the 2028 Democratic nominee could learn from Republican-led states if they want to help fix America’s education system.
During an interview with Fox News Digital following his appearance at the 2026 Texas Tribune Festival, the high-powered Democrat, who has floated a potential 2028 White House run, insisted Americans need "five simple things" to ensure elected officials work for the people instead of themselves.
"Across all three branches of government, ban all stock trading. Two, ban all participation in the prediction market. Three, when you hit the age of 75, mandatory retirement. Four, if your net worth is north of a million dollars… mandatory blind trust. Five, tighten up legally, not constitutionally, the foreign gifts and foreign investments and participation," Emanuel told Fox News Digital.
"For all three branches of government," he said. "Every one of those applies."
The former mayor of Chicago was also fired up about education, blasting both parties and admitting mistakes made by Democrats.
"Republicans have walked away from public education.
More that Republicans have realized teachers unions are a Devil’s tool, and are working wherever they have power to get rid of them, then take education back to basics: clean, orderly kids in clean, orderly buildings where everyone is accountable for the outcome and is given the tools needed to get there. But where they haven’t the power, they are trying to quickly give families the ability to at least get their own children educated — charter schools and vouchers being the key tools for that.
I'm saying that at 10,000 feet, there are others who support it. And Democrats have walked away from accountability and standards that our kids are falling through," Emanuel said.
Nailed that part. The current Democratic Party is for the unions, not the students.
He said Republicans advocate for vouchers, but "there’s no accountability associated with them," while Democrats have their own problems with education.
Emanuel said that if someone was considering a run for the Democratic nomination, it’d be wise to look at the education record of states like Mississippi and Louisiana, which have posted gains in recent years.
"If you have a successful model, I don't care the political quote unquote red or blue state. I want to know what it is, and can we scale it. That's all I stand for. So, the two parties have made mistakes, learn from them," he said.
"We are not in a position when 50% of our kids cannot read at grade level, our math scores are worse," Emanuel continued. "Interestingly, our science isn't. And then adjust accordingly, because we don't have a child to waste in this competition for the future."
The former ambassador has a long road ahead of him if he seeks the Democratic nomination as the RealClearPolitics average of polls currently does not have him among the top 10 contenders. Former Vice President Kamala Harris maintains a substantial lead with roughly 25% average support among Democratic voters.
25% won’t get her the nomination. And 25% of Democrats certainly won’t get her the White House.

That all sounds good, but Rahm knows he'll never get any of that through Congress.
[DM] A senior deputy to FBI Director Kash Patel will depart the bureau after roughly one year on the job - news that comes as the preeminent law enforcement agency has struggled to respond to concerns of politicization.
Andrew Bailey, a co-deputy FBI director, announced his departure in an email shared early Monday with bureau employees, and later, via a shorter statement shared on social media.
‘What I have observed during my time here … are focused, dedicated professionals who are prepared to do whatever is necessary to uphold the Constitution and protect the American people,’ Bailey said in an email announcing his resignation, which was shared with the Daily Mail.
Bailey closed his note to FBI staff saying he remained ‘forever grateful for the opportunity to serve this administration,’ and will ‘reflect with pride’ on his time at the bureau.
Bailey initially served in his role alongside Dan Bongino, a conservative podcaster and former U.S. Secret Service member who stepped down in December 2025 amid clashes with then-Attorney General Pam Bondi over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
He then served with his FBI co-deputy, Chris Raia, the former assistant director in charge of the bureau's New York City Field Office, in a continuation of the nontraditional co-deputy structure initiated by FBI Director Kash Patel.
In a social media post of his own, Patel thanked Bailey for his service.
"Although Andrew is leaving the FBI in order to return to his family in Missouri, his fantastic contribution instituting critical reforms which resulted in our historic success will live on. Andrew's leadership at the FBI will be missed but we are grateful he answered the call to serve!" Patel wrote. "Thanks Andrew for your tremendous dedication to the mission of this FBI."
The resignation came after two FBI agents were demoted and reassigned last week amid concerns that the agency wasn't acting fast enough to investigate alleged threatening phone calls to Katie Miller, the wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller.

The admission confirmed a report by Breitbart Texas revealing that Mexican authorities had raided a legitimate oil storage facility with valid permits and a history of government contracts, and not a clandestine cartel operation. Mexican news outlets have since pointed to the raid possibly having been an attempt by corrupt officials to extort the oil company. The case fell apart under scrutiny.

While Mexico has gone after several known cartel figures, its government continues to protect the political elite, which has allowed cartels to proliferate and shift their operations. One of the main operations that grew exponentially after the Morena Party came to power involves the illegal fuel trade known colloquially as huachicol.
As Breitbart Texas has reported, a current illegal fuel investigation has revealed that the top brass from Mexico’s Navy was allegedly complicit in allowing large ships full of illegal fuel to enter the country. Currently, Mexican authorities have turned two naval vice-admirals into scapegoats and are trying to keep the case from reaching the former Secretary of the Navy, Rafael Ojeda, who is the uncle of the two vice-admirals. Various news outlets and politicians in Mexico claim that, if allowed to continue, the case will include not only Ojeda but also the sons of former Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and other key members of the country’s ruling party, Morena.
The issue comes at a time when Mexico has been actively trying to prevent the arrest and extradition of Sinaloa’s Governor Ruben Rocha Moya, who is wanted in the United States on a federal criminal indictment accusing him of drug trafficking conspiracy and weapons charges for allegedly working for the Sinaloa Cartel, Breitbart Texas has reported.
