[FoxNews] The Department of Homeland Security and Department of War are expanding counter-drone technology along the border
The Department of Homeland Security issued a stark warning after more than 300 cartel drones were detected along the southern border in just over a month.
According to the Department of War, 378 cartel drones were detected at the southern border between Aug. 22 and Thursday. Of those, 75 drones were turned back, 15 were engaged and one was captured. Fox News Digital previously reported that the War Department’s Joint Task Force – Southern Border took down "approximately" 100 suspected cartel drones in August alone.
In response to the threat, the Department of War and DHS are increasing their use of drone detection and interception tools along the southern border. The agencies are also working with private companies to develop technology to counter the increased presence of cartel drones.
In a statement posted on X, DHS wrote that "hostile surveillance of American personnel ends here."
"To the Cartels," DHS wrote, "Your drones are failing, your tactics are being exposed, and you have no advantage. @CBP and @DeptofWar will keep taking them down."
In an interview with Fox News, Jeffrey Stalnaker, deputy chief patrol agent for Border Patrol, said cartels primarily use drones for reconnaissance during drug and human smuggling operations rather than for smuggling.
Cartels previously sent lookouts to monitor Border Patrol agents and other U.S. personnel but now use drones to watch from overhead.
"They’re watching when our soldiers and our agents are coming into the field, where they’re working, and then that allows them to plan how they’re going to send individuals north from Mexico into the United States illegally, trying to circumvent us between the ports of entry," he explained.
Federal officials told Fox News that U.S. anti-drone measures at the southern border have succeeded so far, but cartel drone tactics are rapidly evolving. Some cartel drones are known to be used for lethal purposes, but officials said those have not yet been encountered at the border. For the past three weeks, the U.S. military has been conducting exercises in the desert outside Yuma, Arizona, testing new anti-drone gear ranging from guns and unmanned aerial vehicles to drone-capturing technology.
Brigadier General Jason Rueschhoff, director of operations for U.S. Northern Command, told Fox News, "We are developing capability at a pace that is keeping ahead of our enemy, and that's really important. And that's what happens here."
Fox News Digital reported at the start of the month that Joint Task Force – Southern Border was carrying out drone takedowns using specialized counter-drone equipment provided and integrated by other military units, according to a senior War Department official.
The official said each operation was planned and closely coordinated with the Mexican military and border authorities to prevent interference or unintended conflicts between forces operating on either side of the border.
At the time, senior administration officials praised President Donald Trump's use of military force during a press call, saying, "The president directed, (and) the Department of War executed the first-ever plan and strategy to use direct military force to defend the homeland from this threat.
"The effects have been spectacular, and we've seen the largest and steepest reduction in U.S. casualties inflicted by the cartels in American history."

The Houthis have imposed a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, hitting its tankers, seizing swathes of Yemen’s Red Sea coast vital for oil exports and causing energy prices to jump, while also raining missiles on the kingdom.
A front man for the Saudi-led coalition said on Saturday its air defences "intercepted and destroyed two drones launched by the terrorist Houthi militia towards the Riyadh area."
Saudi air defences also intercepted and destroyed two Houthi-launched ballistic missiles targeting Khamis Mushait, a city in the country’s southwest that is home to an air base, the front man said.
Hezam al-Assad, a member of the Houthi Political Bureau, said on Saturday that "Despite the operation’s strength, scope, and impact, our armed forces view it as merely a small-scale rehearsal for a full-scale escalation."
Jasem Mohammed Albudaiwi, secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council, denounced the Houthi attacks on Saturday.
"This dangerous escalation constitutes a flagrant violation of the Kingdom’s illusory sovereignty and poses a direct threat to the security and safety of civilians and the stability of the region," he said in a statement.
Albudaiwi also called on the international community to "adopt a firm stance" to end the attacks and hold the Houthis accountable.
On Friday, the head of Yemen’s governing body, Rashad al-Alimi, called for a general mobilisation to counter the Houthi offensive.
A ground campaign being waged by Houthi forces against Yemeni forces is threatening a humanitarian crisis, with 138,000 people displaced across Yemen since August, 70,000 children among them, according to the United Nations.

[CBC] RCMP say 24-year-old intended to carry out attack on behalf of Islamic State
A 24-year-old Quebec City man has been charged with terrorism-related offences, according to federal police. The RCMP say Louay Angoud intended to carry out an attack on behalf of the Islamic State.
He is alleged to have communicated online with members of a terrorist group and gathered information to build a chemical weapon that could be used to poison Canadians.
His charges are the following:
Using or possessing property for terrorist purposes.
Commission of offence for terrorist group.
Participating in activity of a terrorist group.
Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose.
The investigation started in April, says RCMP Cpl. Martina Pillarova.
“There were no indications of an imminent attack," she said. “However, he had the knowledge of how to carry out the attack.”
When Angoud was arrested on Wednesday, he was in possession of a knife, she said.
CBC spoke with Angoud's landlord in Quebec City, Guillaume Ratté-Côté, who said he had never heard his tenant say anything violent. However, he notes Angoud had once told him that he celebrated the Sept. 11 attacks.
Angoud appeared at a Quebec City courthouse Thursday via video link from an RCMP station in Westmount. The Crown opposed his release.
He is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 28 to have the date for his bail hearing set.
Angoud does not have legal permission to be in Canada and he had no previous criminal record, according to the RCMP.

Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and al-Nusra ...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. Ansariy was extradited to the Eastern District of New York from Tbilisi, Georgia, on Sept. 23, where he was arrested in August 2026.
According to court filings, Ansariy was the leader of a group of radicalized individuals based primarily in Brooklyn, New York, who planned to travel to Syria to become ISIS or ANF fighters, or who financed the travel of aspiring fighters.
"After a decade on the run, Ansariy is back in the United States where he must answer to the charge that he supported two of the most ruthless terrorist groups in the world, ISIS and the al‑Nusrah Front," said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg. "As alleged in the indictment, Ansariy ran a network that raised money, arranged travel, and paved the way for individuals who hoped to fight for these foreign terrorist organizations. We thank our partners, domestic and otherwise, for helping us to ensure that bully boyz are apprehended wherever they hide."
The government’s investigation uncovered an extensive financial support network that raised money for those seeking to travel to Syria to join and fight for foreign terrorist organizations.
"More than a decade ago, the defendant fled the United States in an effort to evade justice for his extremely serious crimes," said U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. for the Eastern District of New York. "As alleged, the defendant facilitated an expansive network that sought to finance the travel of imported muscle to wage violent mostly peaceful jihad. His extradition and prosecution should serve as a reminder that our office and our law enforcement partners will work relentlessly to hold accountable those who would provide support to bully boyz seeking to harm the United States. Ansariy will now face justice for his actions in a U.S. courtroom."
,The network’s participants referred to the group as "chayxona," an Uzbek word which translates to "tea house" or "tea party."
"This individual allegedly raised funds to help two foreign terrorist organizations and left the U.S. before he could be held accountable," said Assistant Director Jarod Brown of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division. "The passage of years and geographic distance will not stop the FBI; we will find those who help foreign terrorist groups and work with our partners to see justice is served. The FBI is committed to finding networks set up to fund terrorist acts and will shut them down."
The group also raised money to help support the families that fighters left behind when they traveled to Syria, and to help support the widows and families of those who were killed fighting. As a result of these "tea party" collections, Ansariy and others funded the travel of at least three individuals to Syria in 2013. All three are believed to have been killed in Syria.
In May 2016, Ansariy departed the United States for The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... on a one-way ticket that he purchased the previous day. His departure from the United States came five days after the arrest of one of Ansariy’s co-conspirators, on May 11, 2016. Since then, Ansariy has remained a runaway. A federal grand jury in Brooklyn returned an indictment against the defendant in November 2021.
If convicted of the charges, Ansariy faces a maximum penalty of 35 years in prison.
The FBI investigated the case, with the assistance of the New York Police Department, New York State Police, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Port Authority Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service. The Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs, the FBI Office of the Law Enforcement Attache in Tbilisi and the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia secured the arrest and extradition of Ansariy.
The government’s case is being handled by the Eastern District of New York’s National Security and Cybercrime Section. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lindsey R. Oken is prosecuting the case, with assistance from Trial Attorney Joseph Kaster of the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Irisa Chen and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas Pravda for the Eastern District of New York.

Nazir Ahmad Shakib, spokesperson for the corps, said forces carried out a counterattack targeting a Pak military position near the border.
Shakib claimed the border post was completely destroyed and that Pak forces suffered "heavy casualties." The Taliban did not provide evidence to support the claim, and Pak authorities have not commented on the alleged attack or reported any casualties.
The claimed retaliation follows a series of Pak airstrikes carried out early Thursday in Kandahar, Khost and Paktia provinces. Taliban officials said four non-combatants were killed in those strikes and accused Pakistain of violating Afghanistan’s illusory sovereignty.
Pakistain has said the strikes targeted hideouts of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) and affiliated bully boy groups, as well as locations allegedly used to launch drones into Pakistain. Islamabad has repeatedly accused bandidoshard boyz operating from Afghanistan territory of carrying out attacks inside Pakistain, an allegation the Taliban administration denies.
The latest exchange comes just days after Pakistain also launched airstrikes in Kunar and Paktika ...which coincidentally borders North Wazoo and Kurram Agency... provinces, where Taliban officials reported three people killed and four others injured. Pakistain has described its recent operations as part of efforts to counter cross-border bully boy threats.
Cross-border violence has intensified in recent months, with both sides exchanging accusations over bully boy activity, drone attacks and artillery fire along the Durand Line. Diplomatic relations between Islamabad and Kabul administration have deteriorated amid growing security concerns.
Regional observers warn that continued military exchanges risk further destabilizing the Afghanistan-Pakistain border, where festivities between security forces and gangs have become increasingly frequent since the Taliban returned to power in 2021.

Mujahid said Pakistan is carrying out attacks on Afghanistan in an effort to withdraw from the “Mecca Joint Defense Agreement,” portray itself as being at war with Afghanistan, and divert public attention from its domestic problems.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said: “Pakistan recently signed the Mecca pact, and Saudi Arabia has also asked Pakistan to fulfill its commitments. Pakistan shamelessly attacked Afghanistan after claiming just a day earlier that Afghanistan had carried out drone attacks on Pakistan, while these claims are completely baseless. Through such attacks, Pakistan wants to extricate itself from the Mecca pact and portray itself to the world as being engaged in a war in Afghanistan.”
Mujahid stressed that the Islamic Emirate does not support opponents of any country and said an appropriate response would be given to attacks by Pakistani forces.
Mujahid added: “We do not support the opponents of any country. If we did, the situation would be different now. Pakistan’s claim that the TTP is present in Afghanistan was also proven baseless by its recent attacks, as those attacks targeted civilian facilities. But we will certainly respond.”
Meanwhile, religious scholars have criticized what they describe as the silence of Islamic countries, Pakistani religious scholars and the Pakistani people over Pakistan’s attacks on Afghan territory.
Sheikh Abdul Hadi Hammad, head of the Hamadia Islamic Foundation in Kandahar, said: “My complaint is with Pakistan’s religious scholars and people: why do they remain silent in the face of their oppressive system, which is attacking a defenseless country? We are also disappointed with Islamic countries for remaining silent over Pakistan’s attacks while quickly reacting to events in other parts of the world.”
Analysts, however, say Pakistan is attempting through its attacks on Afghanistan to conceal its domestic problems and failures before the international community.
Bilal Fatimi, a political analyst, said: “Through such actions, Pakistan wants to divert attention from its domestic failures and the commitments it has made to the international community.”
Sayed Haroon Hashemi, a political analyst, said: “Pakistan will become further isolated as a result of such actions, but attacks on Afghanistan will come at a heavy cost for Pakistan.”
In recent days, Pakistan has carried out attacks on several areas of Afghanistan, including Paktia, Khost and Kandahar, killing four civilians.
The Islamic Emirate has said it will respond to the attacks at an appropriate time.
[Rudaw] Iraqi security forces have dismantled a network accused of stealing and smuggling crude oil from a strategic pipeline in the southern province of Muthanna, the Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) said on Friday.
"As part of the efforts to protect public wealth and combat smuggling, our teams were able to dismantle a criminal network that was stealing crude oil from a strategic pipeline in Muthanna province," INSS spokesperson Arshad Hakim told Rudaw’s Gashaw Khalid.
"Initial investigations show that the gang's monthly income from stealing oil reached approximately 500 million Iraqi dinars [$382 thousand]," Hakim said, noting that security forces arrested four suspects and seized modified vehicles used to transport the stolen oil.
Oil smuggling has long been a challenge for Iraq, draining state revenues in a country where crude accounts for more than 90 percent of exports. Security forces regularly carry out operations targeting networks accused of stealing and illegally transporting oil.
"Technical experts indicate that due to the rusting around the punctured site, it is apparent this operation had been ongoing for a long time," Hakim stated, adding that "both punctures have now been repaired, and the suspects have been referred to court."
The network had turned a farm near the pipeline into a covert base for its operations, according to the INSS.
The agency said in a statement on Facebook that the strategic pipeline runs from southern Iraq toward Haditha and is directly connected to the oil transport network serving northern parts of the country.
Investigators found two separate breaches drilled into the main pipeline and connected to a concealed underground pipe extending around 270 meters into the farm.
The network also modified trucks designed to transport cement, concealing the stolen crude inside their mixers in an apparent attempt to avoid detection at security checkpoints, according to the INSS.

"The Service's units executed 1,568 judicial arrest warrants in Baghdad and across [other] provinces," the INSS said in a statement, noting that the arrests included "54 accused of terrorism offenses, 194 of drug offenses, 553 of extortion and threats, 195 of fraud and swindling, and 54 accused of promoting the banned Ba'ath Party."
Dubbed "Shadow of Justice," the operation was officially announced on September 1 and relied on extensive security and intelligence efforts to locate people wanted by the judiciary.
The INSS said the operation was carried out under the direct supervision of the head of the agency and in coordination with judges in Baghdad and other provinces. It involved locating suspects, tracking their movements and executing judicial warrants against them.
While the INSS said the operation had achieved its objectives, it stressed that efforts to pursue wanted suspects would continue.
The security sweep comes amid a broader crackdown on crime and corruption under Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, who took office in May.
In late June, Iraqi authorities launched Operation Dawn, a large-scale anti-corruption campaign ordered by Zaidi and carried out largely by the Federal Commission of Integrity with support from the Counter-Terrorism Service. More than 200 officials, politicians, babus government employees and business figures were detained during the first six weeks of the campaign.
Zaidi has made strengthening state institutions and the rule of law key priorities of his government. In his inaugural address to parliament in May, he pledged sweeping security reforms, including "confining weapons to state control," strengthening Iraq’s intelligence and defense capabilities and ensuring that decisions of war and peace remain in state hands.
The latest campaign also comes as Iraq prepares for the September 30 deadline for the US-led coalition’s military mission in the country to end.

(res.) Ofek Moalem, 23, from Jerusalem. Both served in the Jerusalem Brigade’s 7007th Battalion.
According to a preliminary investigation by the military, the two soldiers had been operating first-person view (FPV) drones known as "Atalef" — Hebrew for bat — from an army post inside the military’s Gaza buffer zone in the Strip’s north. A first drone carried out its intended mission, while a second, during takeoff, crashed inside the army post for an as-yet-unknown reason. The soldiers approached the crashed drone several minutes later, picked it up, and it then went kaboom!, fatally wounding them, according to the initial probe.
The pair were taken to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, where their deaths were declared.
Amid the investigation into the cause of the crash and explosion, the military has temporarily grounded all small drones capable of carrying explosive payloads — both suicide drones and those that drop their explosives on a target. A new assessment will be held in the next few days.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has ordered the establishment of a panel of experts to investigate the deadly accident.
The team will be headed by a brigadier general from the Ground Forces, and it will "examine the circumstances of the incident in order to prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future," the army said.
Israeli forces continue to control some 60 percent of Gaza’s territory following the devastating war in the enclave, which began on October 7, 2023, with the Hamas ..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,... -led invasion of southern Israel.
The military has continued to carry out intermittent strikes on terror operatives, saying it is targeting violations of the ceasefire and attempts to rebuild Hamas capabilities.
After months of negotiations, Hamas agreed to the US-led Board of Peace’s disarmament plan on July 30, but its implementation has stalled amid Israel’s rejection of the proposal. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted that the IDF will only withdraw once Hamas has been completely disarmed, rejecting the gradual and reciprocal framework envisioned in the proposal.
Board of Peace officials believe Netanyahu is refusing to cooperate ahead of the upcoming Israeli election on October 27 and acknowledge little progress is likely before then.
The war between Israel and Hamas has killed over 73,400 people in Gaza, including more than 1,330 since the October 2025 ceasefire, according to the Hamas-run health ministry in the enclave, although the toll does not differentiate between combatants and civilians.
The Israeli military believes that Hamas’s overall toll is largely accurate, with IDF officials estimating that two to three non-combatants were killed for every dead terror operative.
The IDF says it has killed over 24,000 combatants in Gaza and another 1,200 forces of Evil inside Israel during the October 7 onslaught.
Israel has said it seeks to minimize civilian fatalities and stresses that Hamas uses Gaza’s civilians as human shields, fighting from civilian areas including homes, hospitals, schools, and mosques.
Israel’s toll in the ground offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in military operations along the border with the Strip stands at 479.
HAMAS COMMANDER KILLED, ISRAELI CIVILIANS BLOCKED
On Thursday, the military said a Hamas commander who held seven Israeli hostages in captivity during the war had been killed in a strike in Gaza City over the weekend.
The strike killed Mahmoud Abd al-Fattah Awad, who the military said held hostages Daniella Gilboa, Karina Ariev, Doron Steinbrecher, Naama Levy, Ziv Berman, Omri Miran, and Eitan Mor in a tunnel in Gaza City.
Recently, the Hamas commander had planned and advanced attacks on troops and Israeli civilians, and acted to restore Hamas capabilities in "violation of the ceasefire," the military said.
The military also said troops detained several Israeli civilians who attempted to cross into the Strip.
Their motive was not immediately clear.
According to the IDF, the civilians crossed a security barrier and entered a buffer zone inside Israeli territory on the border.
Troops dispatched to the scene detained them and brought them back through the fence.
The IDF’s Gaza border fence is built several dozen meters inside Israeli territory, and the military said the Israeli civilians never entered the Strip itself.
"The IDF is focused on its defensive mission in the Gaza Strip and emphasizes that the area adjacent to the barrier is designated as a closed military zone, and entry into it is strictly prohibited. Arriving at this area endangers the safety of civilians and IDF troops operating in the area," the military says.
There have been several instances of settler activists attempting to enter the enclave as part of an effort to establish new Jewish communities inside the territory.
[Rudaw] Clashes continued in Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province in the early hours of Thursday, with heavy gunfire reported in the Jihadabad area as military drones flew over the city and surrounding areas, according to Baloch rights group Haalvsh.
Haalvsh, which monitors the human rights ...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions... violations in the region, reported Thursday that a video sent to the group showed military drones flying over Saravan and nearby areas.
The renewed gunfire came after hours of festivities on Wednesday between Iranian military and security forces and members of the Baluch gang Popular Fighters Front in Jihadabad.
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Zarifi, commander of the Shahid Sajjad Operational Base in Saravan, and Ahmad Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... i Zera’ati, the base’s intelligence chief, "were killed" in the fighting and "at least 13 others were maimed," while four armed individuals were also killed according to IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news.
Tasnim news agency, citing an announcement by the Quds Regional Base of the IRGC Ground Force, confirmed Zarifi’s death and said he was killed while confronting what it described as "enemy’s mercenary terrorists."
The IRGC said Zarifi "sacrificed his life on the front lines of battle" while serving the "security of the people" and the "defense" of Iran’s borders.
The latest violence comes amid a series of armed confrontations and assassinations in Iran’s Kurdish-majority northwest and Baloch-majority southeast.
Sistan and Baluchestan, in southeastern Iran, borders Pakistain and Afghanistan and has long faced attacks by Baloch gangs as well as security operations by Iranian forces. It is the most underserved part of the country with little state investment.
Haalvsh said hundreds of military and security forces had surrounded Razi Hospital in Saravan, blocking all roads leading to the facility and allowing only ambulances to enter and leave. Internet access in the area was also severely disrupted, according to the group.
A large number of military and security personnel killed or maimed in Wednesday’s festivities were reportedly taken to Razi Hospital, prompting the heavy security presence around the facility.
The group’s sources also alleged that security forces discharged several patients from the maternity ward without their consent or authorization from attending doctors.
Earlier this month, three members of the IRGC were killed in a clash with Baloch hard boyz in Saravan, according to semi-official Iranian media. The People’s Fighters Front said one of its units in the Bakhshan area had come under attack by Iranian military and security forces.
Days later, Sunni holy man Yusef Gorgij was rubbed out in Zahedan. His reported ties to the IRGC and Iranian government institutions drew attention, although the perpetrators and motive remained unclear.
[North Press] Syrian authorities thwarted an attempt to smuggle a shipment of drugs and alcoholic beverages from Lebanon, the Anti-Narcotics Department said.
The Anti-Narcotics Department said in a post Friday that a patrol arrested the smuggler, identified by the initials “Y.M.,” and seized 24 kilograms of hashish and 113 bottles of smuggled alcoholic beverages.
The department said the seized items were confiscated and the suspect was referred to the relevant authorities to complete the investigation and take legal action against him.

[North Press] An Israeli patrol entered Wadi al-Raqad in western Daraa countryside on Friday, according to Syria’s state-run Al-Ikhbariya, which said the patrol consisted of three vehicles.
According to Al-Ikhbariya, the patrol opened fire while in the area, causing tension among local residents.
In Quneitra countryside, Israeli forces shelled the outskirts of Hamidiyah town in the northern part of the governorate, a day after movements and attacks were reported in several areas of Quneitra countryside.
