[BB] A company hired during the Covid-19 pandemic to fill staffing shortages at hospitals and long-term care facilities spent more than a third of its time on "standdown," a contract provision that paid them to be on-site and available in case they were needed.
The contractor, Favorite Healthcare Staffing, was supposed to notify the state any time its employees were on standdown for more than 24 hours. There was no evidence those notifications occurred, and the state only conducted limited oversight, according to an Aug. 11 report from Auditor General Christopher Meister.
Key facts: Favorite Healthcare earned $220.3 million from Illinois from 2022 to 2023, including $78.5 million for standdown hours.
The audit found 270 employees who billed for standdown time without actually working a single hour in two years. They earned $7.5 million.
At least eight employees even billed overtime at rates of up to $330 per hour during weeks they were on standdown for five consecutive days, according to the audit. One employee billed for overtime while he was in quarantine and not working.
Other employees billed more than 24 hours in a single day. The state paid their invoices without flagging the discrepancy, the audit found,
Favorite Healthcare was reimbursed $1.4 million for lodging costs, even though its employees were staying in their personal residences.
Upon discovering the issues, Illinois hired the consulting firm Innovative Emergency Management to review Favorite Healthcare's invoices.
But Innovative Emergency Management also had its own billing issues, the audit found. The company billed Illinois using duplicate timesheets and for employees who did not report working any hours.
Illinois later had to hire yet another firm, Crowe, to review Innovative Emergency Management's invoices. Crowe earned $1.3 million.
[ZERO] Prosecutors say Corie Walsh hanged her 2-year-old son, Barrett, from a basement rafter on Tuesday, then tried to kill herself with a knife. She told police she did it because the boy was the "devil" and the "anti-Christ."
Witnesses said she had become "very invested" in the Lindsay Clancy trial and was still texting friends about it hours before her son was found.
Just after 4pm on Tuesday, Frankfort police were called to the 22700 block of Brook Stone Court. A neighbor was already on the floor doing CPR on 2-year-old Barrett Walsh. The neighbor told investigators she had found the boy hanging from a device attached to a basement rafter, a ligature around his neck, his feet off the ground. An autopsy's preliminary finding was asphyxia from ligature compression of the neck.
Upstairs, the same neighbor found Corie Walsh in a bathtub with a knife. Court papers describe Walsh fully dressed, surrounded by bloody water, with cuts to her wrists and thigh.
Walsh later told officers she "did this to her baby because he was the 'devil' and the 'anti-Christ.'" In the hospital she described how she killed him. Those statements, prosecutors said, matched what was found in the house.

One thing the supporters overlook is if this becomes ok legally... in the future the second a mother is diagnosed as depressed or needs mental meds, her kids will be yanked from her by the state and raised how the state wishes. Long. [Breitbart] In a move to reduce the epidemic of teacher sexual misconduct, the Trump Administration has launched a nationwide crackdown on school districts that enable these disturbing offenses against children that continue to generate weekly headlines, Breitbart News has learned.
This week alone, three cases made the news:
New Jersey special education teacher, 45, a married mother of two, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for having sex with an 8th grader.
A 34-year-old Riverside, California teacher and swim coach pled guilty to two counts of sexual penetration and other sex crimes on a 14-year-old child.
And, a 26-year-old teacher in the tiny eastern Washington town of Warden was sentenced to 15 years for repeated sex with a 13-year-old and filming the encounters.
The new effort appears particularly focused on what is known as “passing the trash” — the act of concealing sexual offenses and assigning the teacher to another school or recommending him or her as a good hire in another district.
The Department of Education (ED), which is leading the new probe, said in a recent statement:
The Trump Administration has observed a troubling and recurring pattern in schools across the nation of credible reports of sexual abuse and harassment by adults in positions of authority going uninvestigated or of suspected offenders being transferred to new schools or roles in the district.
However, that announcement, like many of Trump’s official actions, was ignored by major news networks and legacy print media.
While incessant Trump critics have accused the president of narrowing investigations and outright killing the federal education department, his administration in fact ramped up “educational sexual misconduct” reporting near the end of his first term.
The new policy meant to get a better handle on the problem had to overcome a court challenge to the reporting rules by the American Civil Liberties Union.
Announcement of the new 2026 crackdown comes following a blistering “Dear Colleague” letter sent out to U.S. school districts by ED Secretary Linda McMahon last month, which has been obtained by Breitbart News.
McMahon cites the epidemic being enabled by “institutional silence and complacency” by school districts and teachers’ unions being committed “to shield their members from disciplinary actions.”
McMahon called such practices a failure of their “moral and legal responsibilities to parents and students.”
Two decades-old laws are in play in the effort, an ED source who asked for anonymity told Breitbart News:
A Title IX amendment in 1972 which requires schools with “knowledge of sexual harassment or sexual assault” to “promptly respond in a manner that is not deliberately indifferent.”
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requires local districts receiving federal funds to prohibit schools from quietly removing perpetrators by helping them get jobs at other institutions — the practice known as “passing the trash,” the source said.
Secretary McMahon in her letter promised those who fail to follow federal laws will face the loss of federal funding, which virtually all school districts depend on for various local programs.
“This epidemic of nationwide sexual abuse in our schools must end,” she concluded.
In short, though schools are largely controlled by local school boards, the Trump administration and ED appear to be on the warpath.
For starters, the ED is opening investigations into 20 school districts it suspects may not be complying with federal laws.
California and Los Angeles appear to be emerging as ground zero in the effort. A civil rights investigation into the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) began in May, alleging administrators and the teachers’ union were “protecting sexual predators at the expense of students.”
McMahon cited reporting that found at least 67 cases where the state of California has not revoked the professional licenses of educators after school districts determined they had sexually harassed students or committed other types of sexual misconduct this decade.
Twelve of those teachers remain working in education.
This past week, victims and student safety advocates lobbied California Democratic lawmakers who were attempting to pass a measure to limit the dollar amount victims could be compensated in lawsuits against government employees, including teachers.
Mainstream media ignored a news conference at the Sacramento capital on this issue despite the appearance of Chris Hansen, widely known for his two decades of busting hundreds child predators in on-camera stings.
The measure to prevent lawsuits against predatory teachers and to cap financial awards ultimately failed, but lawmakers managed to increase the standard of proof for older cases.
California appears to be a leading offender in letting teachers off the hook.
Secretary McMahon wrote to educators:
For example, the Department recently opened an investigation into the Los Angeles Unified School District for an agreement with United Teachers of Los Angeles that guarantees that teachers will be reassigned — not terminated or immediately removed from student-facing roles while officials investigate when they are credibly accused of conduct including maintaining a sexual or “romantic” relationship with a student, creating child pornography, and failing to report suspected child abuse. To the extent that the Department is made aware of similar agreements, further investigations will follow.
McMahon also cited a 2004 landmark study — previously reported in an exclusive Breitbart News investigation in March — that revealed nearly one in ten students will be subjected to sexual misconduct by the time they graduate from high school.
That means millions of teens have gone on into adulthood with the demonstrated emotional and behavioral issues associated with those experiences, according to survivors, therapists, and child safety advocates.
In reality, the percentage is believed to be higher because of what experts say is a reluctance to report sex abuse by students, fellow teachers, and administrators in school systems plagued with a “culture of permissiveness,” leading experts on the epidemic told Breitbart.
Another ED-contracted study of 50 million students in nearly all of the 100,000 schools in the U.S., updated in 2022, showed a nearly 100 percent increase in educator rape or attempted rape since a landmark study published in 2004.
Charol Shakeshaft, who authored both the study for the ED and a book on this subject called Organizational Betrayal, as well as contemporary researcher Elizabeth L. Jeglic of John Jay College, have both called the problem “rampant” in U.S. schools, both large and small, urban and rural, public and private.
Shakeshaft’s follow-up studies for her book now put the percentage of students affected by sexual misconduct by the time they graduate at 17 percent, a seven-point increase.
Legacy media has largely neglected the troubling trend of the past two decades, instead focusing on scandals in the Roman Catholic Church and most recently the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Shakeshaft bemoaned the lack of concern and action in National Review in 2006 and predicted the explosion of cases, saying: “Think the Catholic Church has a problem? The physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests.”
Recent coverage most often features nearly “pornographic” or salacious tabloid stories of female teachers having sex with young teen boys, Shakeshaft told Breitbart, when, in fact, their data shows male teachers account for the lion’s share of misconduct.
Offending teachers don’t limit their victims to their own students but often go hunting online for other marks and then involve their own pupils.
Breitbart News reported in February about a teacher at a $60,000-year Ivy League prep school in Brooklyn posing as a teenage boy online on, getting nude photos of girls between ages 3 and 15, and using them to groom his students. He was hired despite having a criminal record.
More than a dozen teachers have shown up at Hanson’s “sting houses” over the years.
One episode early this year involving a school administrator in a major city really stood out.
“We were doing a sting in Maryland, and a former teacher of the year in the Baltimore school district showed up expecting sex with 15-year-old boys,” Hanson told Breitbart this week. “Turned out this 61-year-old man now was the administrator and head of the advanced placement and gifted learning program for young kids for the entire Baltimore school district.”

[AnNahar] Congo's Ebola outbreak has killed more than 3,000 people out of over 6,100 confirmed cases, the latest government data showed Wednesday, as the disease is spreading at an unprecedented speed, faster than efforts to track and slow it.
Data from Congo's Ministry of Health showed the outbreak has recorded 6,186 confirmed cases, including 3,007 deaths since it was declared a global health emergency in mid-May. It remains the fastest-growing outbreak of Ebola ever.
Recent weeks have witnessed a surge in cases, with two new health zones affected last week in North Kivu, where the fatality rate is much higher than in the rest of the affected provinces. The virus has spread to six provinces.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control said Tuesday in a report that the efforts to contain the virus "remained below established response targets" and the fast expansion of the disease across many health zones indicates "uncontrolled expansion of the outbreak."
Health workers are struggling under difficult conditions and have gone on strike multiple times to demand their pay.
The disease has continued to spread rapidly for several reasons, including conflict in the eastern region of the country where the outbreak is concentrated, attacks on health workers, miners constantly on the move, and inadequate health infrastructure.
The resumption of school in the middle of the outbreak has also raised concerns about transmission in classrooms.
The World Health Organization said the outbreak is on track to exceed the deadliest on record, West Africa's regional outbreak between 2014 and 2016, which killed 11,000 people.
The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the outbreak is possibly three times larger than the number of cases recorded, as surveillance and contact tracing are still weak. Despite that, the outbreak has already become Congo's deadliest Ebola outbreak.
There is no vaccine or approved treatment for the rare Bundibugyo virus that has sparked the current outbreak. A couple of vaccines are currently being developed to tackle the disease.
Last week, the government started the distribution of the Ervebo vaccine to front line health workers in Kisangani in the northeastern Tshopo region. Ervebo has helped combat previous Ebola disease outbreaks and the WHO said it could offer some protection.

Shouldn't the US Constitution be followed and a Court Order Warrant be required along with legal justification prior to being issued?

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan on Wednesday demanded the FBI turn over all evidence related to a counterintelligence operation during the 2020 election codenamed "Round River" that classified President Donald Trump’s own administration officials and political allies as “conduits” of Russian disinformation.
The letter from Jordan to FBI Director Kash Patel was prompted by the first substantive revelations about the Round River operation contained in declassified documents made public last month by the White House Government Transparency Task Force.
“The Committee on the Judiciary is conducting oversight of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) operation, codenamed Round River, during the 2020 presidential election. Recently released information reveals that the operation categorized prominent Republicans and conservative organizations as 'conduits' of Russian disinformation, while certain Democrats such as President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, were 'targets' of such disinformation,” Jordan wrote.
“In response to this information, you issued a statement suggesting that Round River was used as political lawfare to suppress evidence tying the Biden family to corruptive business dealings with Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company, rather than offering a complete picture of potential foreign threats,” he continued. "We appreciate your continued transparency, and we write to request additional information regarding Round River.”
The declassified documents released last month show the FBI and U.S. spy agencies received the derogatory evidence about Biden from the informants but that a group of FBI analysts embarked on a secret operation to tamp down a Ukrainian corruption scandal engulfing his family during the 2020 election by formally designating Attorney General Bill Barr, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, key members of Congress and journalists as Russian disinformation “conduits.”
In response to the task force, Director Patel said that the FBI has “identified tens of thousands of responsive pages” of documents related to the Round River probe and that the bureau is currently preparing them for disclosure to the task force and Congress, Patel wrote in a letter.

The mother church of the Diocese of London in the Church of England said this week that it has agreed to partner with the Fabric nightclub to host musical “gigs” inside the 18th-century cathedral until 2030, the BBC reported.
St Paul’s director of visitor engagement, Sandra Lynes Timbrell, said that she hoped the modern events would help encourage people to “discover and engage with this historic building in new and exciting ways”.
She said that the events would serve as a “showcase world-class talent and create unforgettable experiences for audiences within one of London’s most iconic spaces.”
Fabric co-founder Cameron Leslie said the events could serve as a way to see the “coming together of two very different parts of London”.
Fabric has previously been the subject of controversy, having been stripped of its license in 2016 following the deaths of two teenagers on its premises as a result of drugs.
While the first event is scheduled for the end of October, it has yet to be revealed who will be performing. However, the Times of London reports that the nightclub-led events will feature “contemporary music by the capital’s most prominent DJs and musicians.”
Opponents of the move have pushed back against the notion that the Cathedral was just another architecturally interesting space for events, given that it is a major centre of Anglican worship and national ceremonial life.
Former Brexit Party MEP Alex Phillips remarked: “You don’t get Mosques, Temples, Gurdwaras and Synagogues abused in this way, taken as empty vessels to be abused.”
She said that it was imperative that churches not be turned into “mere beautiful buildings without substance nor meaning, exploitable by any heathen that fancies an architecture upgrade for their event.”
“The magnificence of religious buildings is testament to belief in the divine, their architects were devotees to the splendour of their faith, with churches and cathedrals built over many centuries by hands that prayed, often in dangerous conditions and with maximum focus and skill as well as cutting edge hard labour by master craftsmen and labourers who were also sincere worshippers.”
The move was also criticised by the Nelson Society, which seeks to preserve the legacy of Britain’s great maritime war hero Admiral Lord Nelson, who is buried in the crypt under the central dome of St Paul’s Cathedral.
Nelson Society President Peregrine Hood, who is a descendant of the elder brother of the national hero, said: “Nelson came from a family steeped in the church, and perhaps it is this misuse of a holy site that would have caused him even greater unease than the prospect of masses dancing above his grave.”
“This extends far beyond Nelson. St Paul’s is one of the great sacred spaces of Christianity and a place of enormous significance to our national life and history.”
Queen Elizabeth’s former chaplain, Dr Gavin Ashenden, who left the Anglican Church in 2019 and converted to Catholicism, said that the planned raves at the Cathedral would represent “a sign of degraded apostasy which is a betrayal of all the faithful Christian people who said their prayers there.”
Dr Ashenden also questioned why the Anglican community would allow its possessions to be “prostituted” out in such a manner.

[Reuters] German startup Isar Aerospace on Sunday said it would rapidly expand satellite deployments after the first orbital launch of its Spectrum rocket from Arctic Norway, a milestone for Europe's efforts to secure independent access to space.
The uncrewed Spectrum became the first commercial rocket to reach orbit from continental Europe, marking a breakthrough for a region where several countries are seeking a foothold in the fast-growing market for satellite launches.
"Launch capability is right now the biggest bottleneck in the entire industry," Isar co-founder and CEO Daniel Metzler told reporters.
He said privately owned Isar remains well-funded and that an initial public offering "is not on the table".
